Thanks, I'm in AZ. Seems like apples and nuts work the best so far. I've only had one hike long enough to need extra snacks. The rest have only been 2 - 3 miles.

Hey there:
I am not sure where you live.. in the Northeast, we have been hiking in temperatures that hover around 0 F and many times spend 8 hours in snowshoes, climbing 3000+ feet.
I bring nuts, prtotein bars, and an occasional odwala bar. I go very heavy on carbs during the hike. Nothing else sustains me.

I'll have to gauge it. It may also be a mind thing. I've only done good at controlling eating in the past month. One of my tricks is to not let myself get hungry by having small healthy snacks in between. I think I'll try the meal beforehand, small snacks during and just eating slowly afterwards if needs be - and definitely drinking lots of water. Thanks everybody

The carbs should give you energy during your hike, and the protein will give you the satiety afterward. So see how you feel during and after, and plan it that way. I think drinking enough is key as well, sometimes we feel hungry when we are really thirsty.

Your snacks of fruits & veggies sounds great... I also often take some almonds (10-12) , a mini box of raisins, sometimes a little beef jerky or a protein bar (I think healthy snacks on a hike are fine, especially on longer hikes)... Also make sure you're drinking plenty of water as you hike to stay hydrated (even in the winter)

Hi all.

I have a question. I have finally gotten back to where I can do longer hikes. Friday I did 6 and today I did a 5 mile hike. I just had surgery on my foot in December, so I'm pretty happy about this. My problem. I take some healthy snacks to eat on the way, but when I get back I am just ravenous! I don't know if I'm not eating the right things on the hike, or if my body is needing some certain nutrient and I'm not providing it or what. I just don't want to sabatoge everything I just accomplished on the hike within an hour of being home. Any ideas? Today's snacks were the Plantar Energy mix pack, a mini sweet pepper, dried apricots and a cutie orange.

Keep Smiling
Debbie
