Luvs2 Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for stopping by the deck.
Wood is out adventuring... a LOT. His grandkids, family and volunteer projects keep him quite busy these days. But all is well...and one day, he'll stop by, I am sure.

Your retirement, that includes more time outside than in, sounds just as it should be! And a visit, with bikes to the Finger Lakes region...very very nice. I'd go back too.

Luckily we live just 90 minutes from Napa...so we make journey's there, although, I am too nervous to ride a bike in that area...haha...

Yes, the summer breeze is perfect, and star gazing is likely one of my favorite activities. Reminds us of the grandure of this world. The Brotherhood wine is perfect wit the berries. May I have a second glass???

Anyone else want a glass? I am planning on taking some time by the waterfall, the floaties are keeping me afloat...stars are out. Yay.

Hello everyone! It's been ages since my last visit on the deck. Nice to see a couple of familiar faces as well as some new ones. (Where's Woody?) Since I retired a couple of years ago, I've been outdoors more than indoors. That's a good thing, right? However, this past winter was different. The frequent days of sub-freezing temps kept me in my quilting cave most of the time. I yearned to go snowshoeing and bike riding but could not tolerate the cold. However, my time in the cave was well spent. I became more involved with Project Linus in creating quilts for needy children suffering from serious health issues or other situations. There is such a great feeling of reward and accomplishment when the last stitch is made in a quilt, knowing that the quilt will be wrapped around a child who is experiencing hurt or loss.

Since early Spring, I've been out on my bike exploring new trails or going for very long walks, enjoying each day counting my blessings. Recently, hubby and I strapped our bikes to the SUV and headed to the Finger Lakes of New York, riding around the lakes as well as touring and tasting wine country. I never saw so many wineries located in one region! It's no wonder why people say the Finger Lakes Region of central New York is the Napa Valley of the east. Yes, I will be making a return visit!

It's nice sitting out here on the deck. The birds are so cheerful and the summer breeze is delightful. I think I will hang out here into the night. I'm sure the sky will be illuminated with a gazillion stars. What better way to relax with a glass of Brotherhood May Wine and perhaps some fresh strawberries! And, I will be toasting to our Spark Friendships as we continue to support each other on our journey on to better health!

Cheers!

Kay- Boysenberries...love love...Ollalla berries....big black berries...these come later. I sometimes think of planting some...super yummy but not reliable here. And with increasing hot days...I am not sure what I think.
Oh Gosh, poor Larry...that 'ol aging thing with a lot of wear and tear likely. But..hey...he's had such good results now with his shoulder, I hope that encourages him some.
Pickin ourselves back up...he does that well, so do you and I keep trying too...That's the part that counts!!! Well done Larry and Kay!

Choc- Hows the back PT/Injection story??? I sure have been thinking about you.

Today, I had to drive up to my older son's. He was getting low on a heart med, Digitalis. So...when the telephone wasn't working, I drove up. The pharmacist was great and I truly believe the day was a real win, since I have a real advocate tow to help. She understands!!! I live 2.3 hours away of zero traffic...So we got food, did some chores and eventually I gave up having gone back and forth to pharmacy and clinic...oh well. Got home, ten minutes after I received a txt from pharmacist...the med is ready to be picked up! hahaha...
That's OK...I still call this a win...this lady gave me her hours, and the futures should be smoother. I'll go up another day...haha...(I have a few cushion...luckily, I know better)

Anyhow...home again...time to play in the pool. 5 hours of car ride...hahaha...time to move a bit.

Hot days ahead here...

I picked some boysenberries at my dad's on Sunday, we can throw those into a fruit salad!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Larry's doing OK, but his knees are really troubling him now... emoticon so he's made an appointment with a knee guy at the orthopedic group. He's still doing his PT for the shoulder, but not quite up to 100% yet. The doctor did tell him it could be up to a year (or more) for full recovery. I guess we're getting close to that now!

Anyhow, pool noodles, wheat noodles, I'll try all kinds!

Morning Deckies!

Kay- Oh my...you know how poison oak scares me..I sure hope you are spared!
The bike ride sounds awesome though. So, Larry sounds like is is really recovered. 100%?
He must be thrilled.

Kelpie- Oodles...haha...I think sje meant the pool noodles.

Kay- The noodles are now out of the shed...pink as ever. Haha...I just had a memory of wood and the pink noodles, hahaha! Anyhow, later tonight I'll be ready to soak away.

But Kelpie, speaking of noodles...I think I'll make some home made noodles for tonight. Fresh ground wheat noodles...half spelt , half hard red wheat, with fresh tomatoes and garlic, a few herbs...simple and yummy.
I'll make enough for everyone.

You know we haven't had a BBQ yet this summer, maybe I'll grill some summer squash as well...berries with whipped cream?? Hows that sound for summer end of the day? I think we should open some wine too...a Pinot I think. Enjoy.

Aaaahhhh, pool time...where are the noodles? emoticon

We had a nice mountain bike ride on Sunday, lots of poison oak on the Foresthill Divide trail, I feel very fortunate that we don't have the evil weed in Reno! But down there, it's all over the place, so I'm hoping I didn't accidentally swipe it on the ride.

Happy Friday afternoon Deckies!

Kay- my dill bolts too fast too...it's tricky...that's why I freeze it when I can. I trim and freeze and it'll get bushier and then I can trim more and put off the bolting a bit. The real trick is getting the cukes to be ready at the same time! Darn that's hard here. This year I am waaaaay off. Those cool nights...
Your photo teaser...very very nice.

Kelpie- More berries today...just enough to add to breakfast...nothing like fresh berries. Picked more carrots...such good snacks!

Pool slide time tonight. I cannot remember the last time I went down the slide!

Choc , I know this used to be a favorite for us both...haha...remember the competitions of the old days? How did PT go? Did you go ahead with eh first injection??
Hugs my friend. Is Lexi enjoying these early summer days? Does she stay right with you when you mozy in the yard? Did the garage roof get finished??

OK...you know where to find me...I am pool bound.

My dill always bolts before I get to it....maybe I could still use it though? Only from seeds from plants from the previous year, I never know where they'll pop up! I have a bunch of garlic chives that are the same...

Here's a sample of our vacation. More to come! (but it may not be soon, we are busy this weekend again!)

Morning Deckies!

I too grow Dill. Hehe...the 'extra' gift of processing foods. The aromas...I do like the entire process. The rounding affects of growing our own food. The modern life removes us, so I'll take dill aromas any day. Drying garlic or onions I the dehydrator have to be done outside tho...I made the mistake once, and had to move the dehydrator...haha. I also freeze dill. I take fresh young fronds, fold them, and roll very tightly , then wrap VERY tightly in plastic wrap. Then over the winter, I unwrap, take a knife and slice off from the end still frozen, re-wrap, put back in freezer. It's almost as good as fresh dill! I use fresh for making fermented pickles of course.

Hope your filing is almost done! and going smoothly!

Hot here the last few days...mid 90s. Its welcome, my peppers have been waiting.

Today, I go to a dr appt..catching up on rechecks...all ok.

Coffee...Yes please!
I'll add some fresh picked strawberries and cream. Fresh toast and some lovely pork sausage from our CSA...so sugar sausage, garlic and herbs. Yum. Plenty for everyone.

With us it was dill, and we simply dried it. House smelled of dill though. Jacques leaves some plants to seed, and then we use the seed. Not just dill of course, anything that seeds. We ferment various roots, but haven't yet done garlic! We re pretty fond of garlic too. Jacques makes the fish soup, and I make the aioli.

Weather very wonky! Wet, but not really cold. Can't get into the garden much though.

End of term so lots of finishing up, and clearing up to do.

Off I go, vertical filing I must do!

Coffee?

And putting another log on the fire, so that when we come out of the hot tub we'll be toasty warm.

Have a good day

Had a hectic weekend, so much fun, will post properly later about the mega picnic.......

Big news is that we got to meet Jeanne, Jacques' newest granddaughter, born Saturday, saw her yesterday, so tiny and beautiful......

So grateful to live in a country where health care is not usually an issue!

Happy Monday morning Deckies!

Choc- Oh my...I am so sorry for the added pain of the sciatica. I have had those injections and they worked well to reduce the inflammation for me. Here's hoping the PT and injections help!!! So much you have had 'on your plate' this last several months. Sending healing energy! Your walking and garden are sure keeping you busy! And a new roof on the garage too! So many projects you have kept going forward anyhow! Well done you!!!!! You are strong of mind, body and spirit! Hugs dear friend.

Kay-your trip sounds fabulous!!!! I just finished reading Edward Abby's Desert Solitaire. Have you read the book? I read it back a couple decades ago and since a similar trip to your is next on my list, I wanted to re-read. You might enjoy this book! I look forward to pics!

Had great fun at my son's Saturday...family play day, bbq etc. (At my younger son's new home) I am experiencing much joy watching he and his wife settle into their new life. The conversation has sure shifted...mowers, changing light fixture, painting, fruit trees, insulation, rats, tree debris, paint, hahaha...I cannot express how much fun this is.

OK, it's still cool...outside for me!

Get out if you can.
Let us know what adventures are happening!

It's been pretty quiet on deck, so I don't think you really missed that much, Choc. I hope the PT helps you, I had sciatica pretty badly last summer, and it sucked!

We got back to Reno yesterday, late afternoonish...spent the evening mostly unpacking and cleaning, more of the same today. I'm hoping to get the pics started today sometime, maybe I'll be able to post one or 2.

The trip was fun, lots of short hikes and longer bike rides, and a couple of mishaps (try not to get a flat tire on the first day of your trip on the Saturday of a holiday weekend!) (or lose the part that holds the bike tire on the bike the following weekend!). I also got a little sunburned, despite layering on the sunscreen as much as I did. We stayed at Kodachrome state park in southern Utah, it's just east of Bryce Canyon NP, so we did a short drive there one day as well. That is such beautiful country!

Hi all... been weeks since I’ve been on the deck, way behind on posts replies so I’ll just start over...

This has been a very frustrating spring & summer... still trying to recover from hip surgery pain (hip surgery successful but has now caused back & leg pain... sciatica nerve has been affected... almost constant pain since the surgery) All that has made any physical activity very limited and painful...
Doctors say it’s partly because my body “compensated” for such a long time for the bad hip, and also partly caused by “old age” degenerated disks in my lower spine... doctors have tried physical therapy (didn’t help)... now starting Monday they are trying a series of 3 epidural spine shots (one every other week)... if those don’t help the pain I might need spine surgery :-(
I’ve tried to stay as active as possible in spite of the almost constant pain, but it definitely has hampered hiking, kayaking and gardening... I’ve had to limit all those activities to “less and shorter” amounts, had to hire outside help for things I’ve always been able to do myself, etc... and now I have to decide by the first week of July if I need to cancel a 10 day backpacking trip this August that I had already paid reservations for back in February (if I don’t cancel by July I won’t get refunds on over $600 prepaid for the trip... so a big decision needs to be made “soon” on if my “old body” is going to be capable of this backpacking trip this year)

Anyway, that pretty much sums up why I haven’t been “on deck” for awhile... just been trying to deal with all this “life stuff” (sigh)...

Will try to catch up on past posts I’ve missed, in the meantime, hope everyone is doing well and just wanted to “get back in touch” with all the “Deckies”... Choc

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Good Friday Morning Deckies!

Kelpie- yes yes yes...attitude...applies to all kinds of healing. emoticon

Ah garden challenges...beyond a broken arm or knee...wow...yes, too much rain or heat. Balancing these conditions and sometimes a deep breath of letting it go...gardens can teach a lot.

The waterfall visit was lovely, the hike up Ben Frien rejuvenating. Thanks my friend...very nice, much needed.

Yesterday was a long day up and back to my older son's. He's actually doing well today, just had a lot to do. Appts, labs shopping, getting meds, food, cooking..and not to mention driving. But hubby came with and he has to work today, so I'll catch up here. Good visit,

Yes, hubby still consulting and paying for medical, seems to be the way here and a must. He's on medicare which is working ok...with a secondary. I have a solo plan that's ridiculous until I go onto medicare.

OK...I think I'll hit the hot tub and then some laps in the pool. Anyone else want to swim some laps with me. (I am a terrible counter)

Yes, attitude is so important.......and a good attitude leads to taking better care of yourself!

Our gardening efforts are a bit curtailed as it is raining so much......raining this morning in fact, when for the last wee while it has been really lovely in the mornings And the rain ruined the cherries for us, they don't like water at all. So waiting for the next fruits to appear.

I think I'll head over to the beach by the waterfall, and let my soul be soothed by the sounds of the water, and let my body be energised by the positive ions in the air. And then head for a hike, in a rainfree forest over tho Ben Frien.

I'll leave breakfast out for any of you that pop by.

Catch you later

Kelpie- Oh my...yes...the healing process. Well, I totally understand about the frustrations and scheduling...health and happiness first. Heal well...you know I am a believer. You know, after that 'spell' of surgeries I had, I feel great ...(I am still in my lid 60's, but really better than ever).
Great to hear your arm is doing so well...Please give J a hug for me, encourage him...it'll all be worth it. (Even the other knee) we aren't getting younger...

I love the sound of thunderstorms. Enjoy!

My arm is really on the mend, thanks Maui..... J is learning the hard way that recovery is not something we have full control over. He thought that when he was told that he could put his weight on his leg after two months, that meant he'd be running ...... well of course, more than 3 months he's still on crutches, and relearning how to walk! That is making us rethink travel plans, only rescheduling, depending on whether he has the second leg down next year!

We are having unseasonal thunder storms, really big ones. That is curtailing our outdoor activity a bit, but not too much. In fact, between showers I should be out weeding:

How are the rest of you? Looking forward to getting your news.

Kelpie-The fruit salad is sooo so yummy. Tis the season! Great way to start my day before heading outside! Thank you! One of my favorite chill spaces will always be the waterfall. The sounds...soothe my soul.
Ahhh, yes, the turtles missed Snow so much. They do have favorites I believe.
My hubby is turtle whisperer. When we go to Hawaii, he swims in the ocean every day and rarely does his miss turtles...haha. Just the way it goes for him. How fun for your daughter!
When Wood came to Kauai with us, his first ocean try, about 30 ft from shore, just getting past a breaker wave ...a 4 ft turtle came along side of him, and gave him a 'Hi Bump Hello! Talk about good luck!

My front yard, CA Native yard, hardly looks brand new anymore. I am amazing at the growth this spring. Still loving it! I call it a success! Right now I have several flowers blooming, but my favorite is my native Clevelandi sage. The honey bees love it, and the aroma remains me of the high sierra and all the high altitude sages. I have a good imagination...so I transport there for a moment, every day. :)

Kelpie- how the arm (yours) and knee (J)?
I am well.

What's everyone doing outside???

Missed the latest posts, sorry

Glad to see you Snow, the turtles have been kind of sulking.

My other daughter, not the pregnant one, who is traveling in South America got to realise one of her childhood dreams when she went swimming with the turtles. I'm pretty sure some of them have cousins over on our deck!

Our garden is coming to life too. So far had potatoes and lots and lots and lots of salad! First tomatoes are ripening.

Yes, a challenge sounds like fun! Any ideas?

So hello to everybody, help yourselves to the most delicious fruit salad, take it over to one of the numerous chill out areas, and just take t he time to be

Snow- I can only imagine the stress...wow. Glad it's behind you!
So good to see your smiling face!

A kayak carrier sounds like a great idea! Yes, save those shoulders!
My morning walk buddy just had shoulder repair surgery Friday! Memories of you and me!

I am desperately trying to catch up on my little farm. Got behind a bit and now such high heat the last 2 days....wow.
It's all good...zucchini picking today! Already!

I have berries picking and blooms on 4 kinds of beans, tomato flowers and baby peppers with many flowers coming, garlic harvest has begun, cuke vines are climbing, eggplants welcome the heat, salads every day from a glorious box of greens. yep...goodness. happiness.

Kay- it's summerish! What adventures do you have planned????

Kelpie- I bet your garden is coming to life...stone fruits set good this year? we have a mix...some great, some not so. But that's fine...we don't always need a bumper crop of everything!!! haha...

Mary- how are you???? Is your boy coming home for summer????? Garden? I thought of you, cause I made a great supper last night with leftover starter. Corn and chive sourdough savory pancakes, with a black bean, tomato, avocado, red onion, smoked tobasco added to the dressing , a little cream fresche atop.Lay pancakes, top with bean salad...YUM!

Choc- You summer garden sounds so lovely! You chose so very well when you moved. I forget, did you see the property in the spring/summer before your purchase? How the hiking and Lexi doing??? She is a year already! wow!!!!

Sorry again for my 'neglect' here on the deck...I know you all understand, when life can get too hard. Thanks for understanding. You all have the best hearts and spirits...and I appreciate you so. Thanks!

OK...heading outside...But check in, greet each other anew...it's time.

Hugs all around.

Snow- what kind of challenge do you have in mind??? Anyone else have ideas/interest?

Count me in for spa day! I could do with some pampering, and all that! emoticon emoticon

I'm happy it's Friday, had quite a lot going on this week, and next week as well, getting ready to go on vacation, which should be fun, but is also causing me a bit of anticipated work stress...but I'm sure it will all turn out OK in the end.

I'd personally try the vaseline first.

So that gave me an idea, why don't we have a spa day here on the deck! Bring in massage specialists, have our hair and nails done (can I say that in real life I have never had a manicure, and gardening doesn't lend itself to pretty nails!) Lounge in the hot tub, sip mimosas, nibble on whatever, and just relax.

Anyone want to join me?

Hey Mauima (-and my deckie friends)
I can relate, Bob lost his mom APRIL 40th- I am completely spent, here in SC. Caring for 45 acre farm, cleaning out her entire home, had to do all the tasks , since Bob could not.
Cremations and funerals... not knowing anything about either.... I have accomplished things I never thought I could. And tired? Exhausted and thanking God for each miracle that occurred during out 2 weeks in SC.
I feel your pain. This is why you never got that call
I’m sorry. Soon..💕
Hi to all my buddies here in the deck,
I am still here in spirit. Finallyy get to fly home tomorrow- then our flight got cancelled! I get go finally sleep..... see you when things calm

Good morning team.
Fly by.

Just so you don't worry (sorry if anyone has already), I am swamped under care-giving. This last month has been as expected by rough. My Uncle's wife is in her last moments of life, I am with them a LOT. All hours of day and night, So I can offer as much comfort as I am able at this time. (I really have no human understanding how she is currently existing) anyhow, rough time.
I'll get back to myself soon.

Thank to all who are caring for the deck as I struggle to keep up.
Hugs all around.

Oh, Choc, I'm so sorry to hear about the back pain, what a bummer! Glad you can come here to vent though! We are just the group for that, and here to try to cheer you up and cheer you on!

Back pain is tricky, as you know, I was up and down all last summer with that, and Maui with her surgery/recovery, lots of it going on. If you can move, you should keep doing that, motion is lotion, says my yoga teacher, and I've seen lots of advice that back pain sufferers do better when they are moving than when they don't move.

emoticon to you!

Kelpie, hope lunch at the coast was wonderful! Glad you are pushing your dad around, but don't hurt yourself!

Still enjoying the beautiful weather here, wish I wasn't working and could just enjoy the sunshine!

Oh Choc, I feel for you, I can see the frustration in Jacques, and in a minor way my own recovery, the transfer of pain.

Festina Lente as they say easy to say, difficult to do. My physio warned me that we might need to take time off to make sure recovery went well. I'm sort of doing that now in Edinburgh. Still pushed dad in his wheelchair yesterday, and feeling sore today. Not going to let on though.

Just setting out breakfast and will try and get back later.

Off to the coast for lunch, looking forward to it!

Good morning everyone! Boy, I’ve gotten way behind on all that’s been happening here on the deck, so guess I’ll just start over...

I’ve been kind of struggling with rehab from my hip replacement surgery... hip is good, but now the pain has transferred to my back! :-( doctors say it’s partly because I put up with the hip pain for 3 years and so my muscles “compensated” by shifting weight to other areas (so now I have to try to “straighten up” the way I stand and walk)... then X-rays show I have degenerated disks in my lower spine that now is causing a lot of pain when I walk or do any work that involves bending or lifting.... this is all so FRUSTRATING since I “thought” having the hip replacement would solve the pain issues I’ve had for years! :-( I’m still forced to use a cane for walking any distances... Doctor has stopped my physical therapy for now because it was just making back pain worse... he’s scheduled an MRI this week, and sending me to a pain management specialist next week ...
Roughly translated, I’m “a mess!”
emoticon
All this is making me realize that I might not be able to go on the 10 day backpacking trip I had planned for in August. (If I’m not better by July I’ll need to cancel that trip if I want to get refunds for all the travel reservations I made back in February)... I’ll really be bummed if that happens, but right now the longest “hike” (very slow walk with a cane) I’ve been able to manage is 4 miles and that was with no backpack!
Obviously not in shape for the planned trip!

Anyway, sorry to sound so negative, but I just needed to “vent” my frustration with this slow and complicated rehab from February surgery! Not giving up, just “whining” about it all .... sigh!
emoticon

Just keep swimming!

Never give up!

Too bad you can't come walking out here, Kelpie, we've had nice temperatures (70's) and sunny skies. Got in a bike ride yesterday, and had a nice hike today, out back. I was warned by a fellow hiker that he had seen a rattlesnake go into a bush next to the trail, and it was still shaking it's rattle! I didn't see the creature though.

Anyone want some guacamole and salsa for Cinco de Mayo? We can bust out a pinata as well! emoticon

So apricot jam with some fresh bread for breakfast this morning; to go with the freesias.

After a lovely week last week the temperature has plummeted again, which is a pity as I've the ok to do some nordic walking now, but don't fancy it in the rain and fog. Will just carry on with the indoor physio and stationary bike.

Anyone fancy a virtual walk with me? Just to enjoy the woods, and the new growth on the trees, that filters the sun, like tattered lace.........

I love fresias! I used to have them in Sacto, but none here, not sure if they would survive the winds, squirrels and cold. Maybe they'd do OK?

Boy, the deck has been quiet lately...glad you popped by, Kelpie!

We're planning a trip at the end of the month to Goblin Valley State Park in Utah, google it, the pictures are quite fun!

OK, just going to jump right back in, and splash you all in the process, not worrying about catching up, more concerned about keeping up now!

So anyone else want to head over to the waterfall, for a bit of a water fight, and then back to the tub to soak away the aches and pains?

And let's surround ourselves with fresias. My first one is about to flower. One year my mother managed to grow them in the Shetlands (same latitude as Alaska by the way) I must have been about 7 and I called them apricot jam flowers, cos that's how they smelt to me. All those years ago we didn't get fresh apricots. And now I live in a climate where we have an apricot tree.

However fresias will always be apricot jam flowers to me!

My daffodils had a similar experience....but I still got some blooming out of them! Nice surprise when I find one!

We had another dusting of snow last night...but it's sunny now, so I hope it stays that way! I hear we are supposed to have good weather for the weekend.

Hope the holter goes well, it's all about information, right?

Kay... this has been a crazy spring! We had one day last week that was sunny and got up to 70.... then over the weekend we had rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow all day Saturday! Cold and rainy Sunday (but at least the ice from Saturday got “washed away) ... then yesterday and today sunny but COLD! My poor daffodils had started blooming last week & now they are all bent over & half frozen! Very crazy weather!!!!!!

Going to the doctor this afternoon to have a 24 hour heart monitor hooked up to me... (they’re checking for atrial fib)... never had one of those hooked up to me before .... have a follow up appointment with heart Doctor in about 2 weeks to get results (seems like all I’ve done lately is deal with medical “issues”) .... sigh!

We have similar weather, Choc, warm for a few days, and then last night we got a dusting of snow! I saw a few flurries on the way home from work too...it doesn't seem to be sticking though.

I'm hoping to get in my last ski for the season on Saturday...hope it's a good one!

Hmmm... I “just might” have overdone my first “longer” hike on Lapeer State Game Area trails after my hip replacement surgery ... 2.6 (VERY very slow) miles on the river trail from the Trailhead (longest distance so far since surgery)... pup and I enjoyed it but I was “really moving slow” & pretty sore by the time we got back to the car.... spent part of the afternoon alternating ice and heat to help sore muscles recover (but still sure felt good to get out and hike “real trails” instead of just sidewalks!) Not as sore this morning as I thought I would be (yea!!!)

Have physical therapy this morning so I’m guessing I won’t be walking as far later today (usually pretty sore after PT sessions)... instead going to “try” to prune a big hydrangea Bush in my back yard but will depend on our crazy weather... rain predicted for next five days, then back to cold 30’s & 40’s next week (winter definitely does NOT want to give up and let Spring happen around here!)

And happy Tuesday!

We had tiny bundt cakes at work (I ordered them, we had 2 birthdays and a going away to celebrate), I managed to limit myself to just the one...and got my fruit snack in too!

Enjoyed my yoga this morning, and have been getting in some nice neighborhood walks in the evenings, just around a mile, but enjoying the blooms and the weather!

Sun kissed...yep...we worked in teh garden long enough to add a touch of color too!

I was making eggplant Parmesan yesterday and had an oven mishap, somehow it set itself to "clean" and locked the door with the eggplants inside.... emoticon the "cancel" button did not work, could not get the thing to turn off! Today has been weeding and harvesting teh last of the wider beets, composting, simmering bone broth, now starting supper. After smelling this broth all day, I am starving...haha.

Kay.... yup, I still have the Russian Easter Eggs.... some of them are over 20 years old! Used to make new ones every year, but I can't make them anymore (hands too shaky in my "old age" to draw the designs).... the inside of the eggs dry out after a few years, and as long as the eggs don't get cracked they will last indefinitely ....

Happy Orthodox Easter to all my deck friends!

Happy Easter Choc! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Do you still have those beautiful eggs? I'm sure the PT is correct about the progress you are making, it is hard to do, but keep at it! It's great that you are so motivated to stay active, that's the way to make the progress you are making.

Maui, rain, rain, rain... emoticon We got out on a muddy hike yesterday, just out back, but lots of stream crossing, since the creek has risen! May get even higher, but it was nice to get out. We had a house full of people, Larry's friend who works with the Juno probe gave a talk at the university, so she was here along with some of Larry's other college friends and other colleagues, so we had a hiking group between events! The talk was great, so interesting what they can find out from flying by the planet, and great pictures coming from there too!

I don't have much hope for skiing this weekend...and next weekend is the last of the skiing, so we'll see how it goes! I can hope for a sunny day, right? emoticon

Maui... it’s been almost 2 months since surgery, and yup on progress... although I’m a bit frustrated at this point because I seem to have hit a plateau... I can walk a bit without the cane but that involves quite a limp or a very awkward walk if I try not to limp, also leg & back muscles painful especially after any physical therapy or “hike” (therapist assured me this is normal at this point in recovery so I’m hoping she’s right! Guess I’m just being too impatient at getting back to “normal”) I am able to sleep in bed now (instead of sitting up on the couch all night), and even though I wake several times during the night it’s still better than the couch!

No gardening here yet... still getting snow and freezing temps but they say we’ll finally start warming up by the end of next week... hopefully I can at least start some yard & flower bed cleanup between now and then!

Tomorrow is Russian Orthodox Easter, so I’m sending out a Happy Easter wish to y’all....

Happy Friday is right!

Rain here too...windy as well. gusty!

Kay- I heard a report that Yosemite closed just a bit ago due to potential serious flooding fro melting snow. The rains are expected to flood the valley. Wow!

Choc- you sound like you are doing so very well! No cane at times...you go!
It hasn't been that many weeks yet. How is your sleep this week?

Yesterday, I transplanted all my baby starts , still in my green house, into bigger pots. We are expecting temps to dip below 50...so...still too soon for my summer babies to be outside. Sheltering them is still necessary for a couple more weeks.

Kelpie- how are you two patients doing??? I sure hope you are feeling some recovery.

Mary- Garden time! Tis the season ...so much excitement for us growers...

Choc- you might have to wait, skip a season eh?? Focus on your recovery too?

Hello to everyone else too! Stop by and let us know what you are up too!

Wishing you all a happy outdoor weekend.
Hugs all around.

Maui.... yup on snow... we got about an inch yesterday (Also very windy & cold), most has already melted but we’re supposed to get snow again Friday ... not supposed to get “warm” (50’s) until middle of next week! Has been a very unusual Spring as far as weather goes around here!

Still doing physical therapy 2x a week, but making progress... can “sort of “ walk without the cane although that involves limping or walking with a very “awkward” posture.... working those muscles is important but also has caused quite a bit of constant aches & pains in my hip & upper leg (doc & Therapist say that’s all part of the healing process & to be expected... reassuring but still frustrating!)

Speaking of walking, time to take the pup out for a walk... catch up with posts I’ve missed later...

Have a great day everyone! Choc :)

Mt Diablo is a great hike! And nice wildflowers when I went as well (at least in April...) emoticon

Hope you get your "real" walk in soon, Kelpie! But will enjoy the virtual walks too!

Choc, hope you had a nice day! Were you snowed on?

We had sunshine yesterday, cloudy today for our ski. We hit a big traffic jam (accident on the freeway to Roseville) on the way down yesterday, made us over an hour later than we had planned...but still got to enjoy a visit with the family.

Good morning Deck friends!

wow...April...

Friday drove up to see my older son...and such...good visit. :)
Saturday I hosted 'Easter' dinner, kids, food, games...fun. It was super relaxing and fun to catch up with these sweet souls.

Easter Sunday, hubby and I took off with leftovers, to a local mountain to hike and take in the glory of spring. (Mt Diablo for those familiar)
Great hike, it was hot! Yikes, needed shorts!
Anyhow took in the abundance of green, wild flowers, extraordinary views, CA Native Oaks bursting with spring, manzanita flowering in their glory, climbed a cabled rock called Sentinel Rock (A Native American lookout and smoke signal rock), and even saw a Bobcat stalking it's prey.

A perfect day.

Oh...accept lost my sunglasses climbing ...haha...we tried to back track...no deal.Got me new cheapies today. Doesn't pay to get me expensive ones...haha.

Hi Kelpie, Choc, and Kay!
Everyone else too!

Get out if you can...it works.

Become the change you wish to see in the world.

Happy Easter Fools Day! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hope you all are enjoying the day, we're warm and sunny (again), so that's nice! The plan is a ski on the way down to my sister's (she's hosting dinner), and a bike ride on the way back up tomorrow. My CrossFit box had an 80's aerobic class yesterday, I didn't dress up like most of the class, but it was fun anyway, lots of headbands and guys in short shorts! The class leader had done some aerobic videos back in the day. He only had us go for about 30 minutes, thankfully, it was quite the heart pumper!
