I am a member of a runner's group that commits 1 run a month to litter running. We each take trash bags with us and pick up trash on the route. You'd be amazed at the things we find. The weirdest so far (that everyone refused to pick up) was a pair of woman's underwear. Cigarette butts are the most plentiful (and time consuming).

When we go hiking, we have competitions to see who can gather the most trash. The winner gets bragging rights!

My son is constantly pointing out litter left by other people. Good idea.

When I took my children to a park, before we left, we picked up trash. It was just part of the activities. emoticon

I know when I go hiking, (especially with my hiking group) we take bags and pick up trash and things that aren't supposed to be on the trail. Some trails and days are not as messy as others.

I absolutely LOVE this idea! Every year, most of the state parks in the area participate in National Public Lands Day, where people volunteer to do a variety of activities. My thought is, why wait until that one day? Why not do it everytime you're on a trail, visiting a park, or out fishing?

Definitely doing this the next time I'm out.

I found a website that was talking about runners taking a bag with them. (just another idea)

Also for everyone looking to burn calories, You can burn 100 calories in just 20 min.

We can help the solve the problem of people littering by teaching the next generation to be more considerate of their surroundings. So share this activity with your kids or a child you are a role model for. They are little sponges that pick up habits from us.

The Challenge: Take a bag with you next time you visit a public place outdoors and pick up the litter.

I am so tired of being forced to see litter scattered across beautiful scenery. I don't understand why people choose to throw trash on the ground when a trash can is walking distance or how you can take the container of coke to the lake but you can't take the container back home with you. This is a problem i can't solve, but what i can do is own it when i see it. Yesterday when i went to the lake I took a garbage bag with me in 15min it was full. I know i didn't get all of the trash but it did make a huge impact.

Lets make a difference!
