A late day check in gang emoticon All is well.

@NELLJONES I hear you on the thought of moving. We have been here nearly 23 years. The house is packed and the thought of moving is nauseating to me. It is a Colonial though and the bedrooms are upstairs.....not an aging friendly home. All the more reason to keep moving so I can do those stairs....

@KENTUCKYWOMAN , so glad you had a great sleep and also congrats to your TOPS group on the 100 lb loss! That is wonderful!

The very idea of moving makes my blood run cold. I've been in this house for 33 years, and in this immediate neighborhood for 43 years. It has taken so long to get the house exactly the way I want, the right furniture, the right flooring and tile and cabinets, the right appliances. It would cost way too much to duplicate that perfection in another residence, even if it were allowed. Condos can't allow high output gas stoves or standby generators in case of power failure. None of them have a garage that opens directly into the kitchen (love that!). For years I have had a recurring nightmare that I sold the house and couldn't figure out why. In my dream I would drive by and see another family in the yard, and the pain is so overwhelming it wakes me up. On this cul de sac there are 10 houses, 7 of them have at least one occupant over 80, one home has owners over 60. The other two are new young owners, they are the only ones who have mortgages. Free and clear title is the best home design feature ever!

I guess I'm opposite of you Nell. We have a lot of steps in our house and I'm perfectly fine with moving but my husband isn't ready. I told him I want to be out of here by the time I'm 80. As of now I'm 72 and he's 73.
Congratulations to your TOPS group Joan. 100 pounds for the year is tremendous.

That's a great loss, Joan, for coming off of unnecessary steroids.

Today I decorate some, it's rainy and chilly so a good day to be indoors.

Yesterday I ordered an upgrade to my FIOS, mainly because if I upgraded then they'd send a tech out for free to install it, he's coming on Wednesday.. I have a wifi extender I don't know how to locate to a new router, now I don't have to worry about it. Supposedly my internet speed will be 4 times faster, I look forward to that.

I do a lot of stuff my husband used to do, but I hire out the handyman things he did that I can't do, or don't want to try. I can't install a ceiling fan or replace a bathroom faucet, so I call someone. We have a lawn company since he can't do that anymore, and I sure won't do it. I don't know what will happen when he can't do steps anymore, we have a lot of them in the house, and I will not move, I love this house!

Hello everyone. I just woke up, have been up long enough to go to the bathroom , make a cup of coffee and get the computer fired up. Slept the best I've slept in three days. It raining right now, no wind, thunder or lightening, but I can tell its warmer than normal due to the house is warm and the furnace is not running.

TOPS was great yesterday, so good to see everyone, and as of right now if nothing bad happens we are going to be able to end the year with a group weight loss of 100 pounds, a little over 100, but the 100 for this year is what I'm looking at. Good news also is as a group we only had a half pound weigh gain for the week after Thanksgiving. Myself I was down 1/4 of a pound and let me tell you I was thrilled.

Jane what your mother-in-law would do when Mr. Bob was alive I would do the same thing. I'd cook and put stuff in the freezer with the instructions of how long to warm it up. That way the guys didn't have to worry about trying to cook.

Nell, hope you got your errands all run yesterday.

I like your idea of interchanging jobs, Jane T. My husband and I had pretty much "our own " jobs. After he died, I had to learn how to do his. I will say it kept me busy and my mind occupied, but it would have been easier if I'd learned how to do some of it while he was still here!

Hubby and I are both pretty independent, but we both have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to certain things. He regularly does laundry and cooks, and I mow the lawn and shovel snow. We interchange these things. He is by far better at handling the major finances and I pay the bills. He can survive if I leave, but he likes to make it sound like he can not lol!

I remember back in the 60's when my mother-in-law was sick she prepared meals to leave at home for her husband before she went to the hospital. She later passed away and he had to learn to cook. He actually did quite well at it. I think some women do too much because they want to feel needed and that's the only way they know how to do it.

Good morning.

The lawn crew cleared the leaves yesterday, the yard looks wonderful. There were so many leaves they had to leave to empty the left vac truck, then come back for more.

I remember back when I started working that men wouldn't make or answer their own phone calls, they had secretaries do it. One of the reasons it took so long for computers to enter the workplace was that men wouldn't type, that was "women's work". They wouldn't learn how to use a copier or a fax machine, that's what secretaries were for. At home they didn't do anything that smacked of "women's work", and in the 80s, we women who worked were expected to do everything related to the house and the kids in addition to bringing home a paycheck. My sons all know to pitch in or their wives would kill them. I still do everything for my husband because he is of the older, entitled generation, and because it's easier. He really doesn't care if the house looks like a bomb hit it, I do, so I'm the one to keep it to my standard. When I had to spend the night in the hospital after each of my surgeries, I had to pay my son to give hubby his insulin shot (hubby's fingers don't work well anymore) and make sure he took his medication. I left sandwich makings and cold salads so he could manage on his own, and he was actually happy to be alone for a couple of days. The worry was more mine than his, I didn't like the idea of coming home to a mess. But I did and as soon as I was up and around I cleaned it up. It all worked out.

I was stuck at home yesterday because the driveway had a giant leaf pile on it, so today I'm running errands.

Michelle, that is exactly how my two sister's are, they only watch what their hubby's want to watch. Poor Mr. Bob was never like that, and even tho I cared for Bob in a caregiver's capacity, I still made sure he had the sense that he could do somethings on his own. I always said I was this way due to working with woman who not only held down a full time job, took care of the kids, but they also had to take care of the big kid.

Have a good meeting today.

I have always believed that to begin something that I may not want to continue is why I don't do everything for my hubby. I also work with a woman who can do nothing for herself and that includes watching a show hubby doesn't like. I will not fall into that mess either. I like my independence as well as being a couple. Like someone said I will be able to take care of myself when the time comes.

Thanks everyone for all the prayers, keep them coming because they are still set on going up the day of the surgery.

Today is TOPS, and its been two weeks since we've been together, so it will be so good to see everyone, and I hope everyone will be there today. Right now it looks as if we've had some rain and its a bit foggy out there, so hoping that clears up before I have to leave.

Hope everyone is having a good week, and it's Friday, so time to get ready for the weekend. emoticon

I think husbands should learn to take care of themselves. What would they do if something happened to their wives? That being said prayers go out to you that all works out and you don't get too stressed out.

I will be in the hospital on the surgery floor two nights at least it might be just one night. Then I’ll be moved to the rehab floor where I’ll stay a week or two. I won’t be able to drive for six weeks.

Ruthann has never worked outside of the home but she had spoiled Terry to no end. With June her husband is 75 and June is s control freak and I’m not saying that to be ugly. In fact you can tell she drives Don crazy at times with her hovering . I’m just praying she realizes how bad this is for my nerves.

Is your surgery an out patient procedure or will you be spending the night in the hospital? Will Ruthann have to wait for you or just be dropping you off? Can you drive yourself the night before and leave your car at the hospital parking lot for the two weeks or whatever until you can drive again and get back to retrieve it? What would you do if you didn't have relatives to drive you at all? I'm so sorry, the last thing you need is more stress. I wonder what Ruthann did when she had to travel on business? I had to leave husband and kids behind when I traveled. I came back to a mess but they survived, a far cry from when hubby traveled and I kept it all humming along. Women are better at it than men, but they do manage.

It's hard to have to rely on other people, who want to have their own plans, and not necessarily understand how to keep you from being stressed. I wish I knew the answer to this dilemma. I don't. I will send prayers. My prayers when I don't know just how to ask for the right thing are "thy will be done". I think we can rely on God to figure this out. Love coming your way, and a prayer for calm in a stressful situation.

Good morning everyone.
Just heard the weather for here this weekend and this Saturday we could hit 70 degrees, now that is going from 20 degrees on Tuesday with snow off and on all day to 70 degrees and rain on Saturday, can we say STRANGE WEATHER!!!!

Okay ladies, I need some praying going on here. I'm still set for surgery on the 10th of December. I have to be at the hospital at 10 a.m. for registration and surgery is scheduled for noon. Here is where your praying will come in and that is I want, no I need to come to Louisville the day before, because we are 2 hours away, and I do not think it a good idea to try and make the trip on that Monday morning on I-65 with rush hour traffic. Now if we would leave at 4 or 5 a.m. I'd say fine but that won't happen because June who will be driving is afraid of getting hit by a deer, which I completely understand, but here's the rub if we wait and leave say at 6 our time, which is 7 Louisville time, I'm stressed enough just about the surgery, I don't need the extra stress of worrying if we are going to get there on time and worry about the traffic issues. I even said to June, I would pay for the hotel stay all by myself, because I offered to pay each time we've stayed but June has paid half each time. Trust me it would be hard for me to pay the entire hotel bill, but I could and would, just to go up the day early, but June's reply was, ''Ruthann & I have husband's to think about." First off that hurt, because both Terry & Don can take care of themselves for a few day without my sister's neither of them are handicapped like Mr. Bob was. So ladies I need lots of prayers that these girls see the light. I do not want to risk my blood pressure being up where the doctor will say, can't do surgery because we can't get you calmed down enough to lower you bp.

Other than this, life is good. Have a great day.

That's great news, Joan, though I don't think it's about "passing", just making sure the anesthetist has all necessary info. You'll do great, and feel like you should have after the last hip surgery!

Hey Everyone, just got back from Louisville. Happy to say that I passed all the test, and the people and staff at the hospital are just wonderful. Could not ask for better treatment. I'm still on for surgery the 10th of December. Very tired, but other than that no worse for wear.

Hope everyone is having a great day/week so far.

Good luck, Joan with all the pre-op goings on. Hope everything checks out ok, so "we" can get the hip fixed.

Now I have a friend to expects to have a knee replacement in Dec. It truly is the month for operations, I guess.

Camryn stayed overnight here last night . Between her and the dog, I didn't sleep much. Once I got up to go to the bathroom, and my spot in the bed was taken when I got back. Thank goodness , I can get a nap this afternoon.

Snow again, but just the light stuff. It looks as if a whole herd of deer went through my backyard last night!

Good morning.

Joan, the pre-op stuff is easy, the only irritating part is the waiting for each part. And filling out those endless incomprehensible forms. I just sign them, I could be signing away my birthright and wouldn't know it.

Cleaners come this morning, then off to Costco for the first day of the new coupons. Unlike most stores, when Costco sells out of something they don't get more of the same, but different stock, like the PX on a military base.

Good morning all,
we will be leaving this morning to head to Louisville. I did finally find out that I have to be at the hospital tomorrow morning at 7:30 so June & I are going up today so we don't have to deal with the traffic on I-65 early tomorrow morning.

Cold this morning and the weather people are telling us there are some slick spots out there, so prayers for our safety will be very appreciated .

Hope everyone has a good day and stay safe & warm.

Good morning all. Just regular shopping errands to catch up on here, I'm behind from last week.

The Delaware Memorial Bridge on I95 was closed for 6 hours last night due to a leak from a chemical plant, a bunch of people I know were caught up in it. Yesterday was one of the busiest travel days of the year on 95, I hope they all get home OK.

Good luck getting your surgical record in order, Joan. Did the Midwest snow miss you?

Blanche, I hear you on needing time to regroup. I notice the older I get the more I need that time. Hoping they will have a full week of school this week just for you.

Very windy here this morning, and cold. We made it to 63 degrees yesterday and then the bottom dropped out and this morning we are in the 30's, burrrr. I'll be on the phone a lot today, still need to find out if I"m having the pre op done this Wednesday, have no heard from the fluid extraction that was done last Monday, and suppose to set up a time on Wednesday to talk with the lady over the Rehab at the hospital there in Louisville, and I need to go to Owensboro to my bank. Lots to do today, but if I don't get to the bank the world won't end.

Have a great Monday everyone, and stay warm.

For one reason or another....Veterans day, snow days, teacher conferences, Thanksgiving vacation....the little girls have had only two days of school a week for the past three weeks. Here's hoping for a full week this week. I love that they want to come to my house so much, but I kind of need a week now and then to regroup .

I'm just beginning to recover from the Thanksgiving festivities. I got really tired!

Today is exercise class and maybe a grocery run if the weather cooperates.

Maci and I are sewing heart pillows for people on her Christmas list. I think we need to make at least 14. She is amazingly good (8 years old) at sewing those curves!

My company left last night after supper. There was a prediction of snow where they live starting this morning so they wanted to make sure they missed it. We had a really good Thanksgiving and weekend. Of course I probably ate too much but I don't think I overdid it as much as I would have in the past. My grandson made supper for us last night which was really good. We had cod, roasted potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts and asparagus. He's a really good cook. Today is mostly rest although I am doing some laundry.

Had two "pj" days last week. So yesterday made myself meet my friends for coffee. Then a walk in the afternoon.

Busy week with doctors appointments for Alex this week. I know what you mean about feeling overwhelmed by it all.

Planning on gym this morning then grocery shopping. We are having our small nontraditional family thanksgiving meal this afternoon. So far the "menu" includes smoked salmon, little smokies, cheese plate and pumpkin pie.. I will add some fruit and veggies for myself. Lol and of course we HAVE to have sparkling cider for a toast.

My friends funeral is tomorrow. Figured out part of the reason I am taking it so hard. It could easily be Alex. He is so fragile, that one bad cold that turns into pneumonia is all it could take.. my friends asked how I was handling it and I had t be honest.....Ice cream.

Joan we did the same thing Saturday...nothing. I said I wasn't going to because it is time to get this cold gone. So I didnt. At the end of the day I was feeling like a sludge. So today I feel better and must get on with it. Not sute what it is yet but something. Have a wonderful day all.

Three people I care about are having surgery in December. one heart valve and two hip re-do's. I am going to be on pins and needles until all three are successfully taken care of.

I'm still cleaning up from Thanksgiving and getting the once-a-year things back where they stay until next Thanksgiving. Also I have to clean the back seat of the car, where all the cargo stuff was dumped when my son-in-law was trying to get to my spare tire. So far I have been as ,much napping as getting things back in order.

Camryn, who has difficulty reading and consequently "hates" it, has just finished reading a book with me (that she chose!). I am so excited. Maci and I are working on sewing heart pillows for her relatives for Christmas. The little girls and their cousin had a "sleep over" upstairs in my house night before last. Great guests! They even made the bed!

Good morning. It finally stopped raining! We are officially at 50% for rain so far this year than we usually get in an entire year.

Joan, I never heard back from pre-op tests either, they just need to have all of it at the hospital before surgery. The anesthesiologist is looking for info that wouldn't mean anything to me.

One month from today is Christmas!

"Perseverance is not a long race. It is many short races one after another."

Good morning Blanche, Jane T., Michelle, Beth, Nell, Jane & Gail. Can you believe just ONE MONTH until Christmas day....EXACTLY one month from today!!!!!

Yesterday I did nothing, and when I say nothing I mean NOTHING. I was so tired that I did take a take and somehow I did manage to finish up two potholders I'd been crocheting on. I'm trying to get enough made to give some to each of my TOPS group.

As I mentioned before, a month until Christmas so let's make sure if we fell off track during Halloween & Thanksgiving we get ourselves back on track because if we don't I see only trouble ahead. I know I've not done as well staying on track as I should have. I've given myself plenty of reason's for my slip, but you know as well as I do those are just excuses. I have been beating myself up over this, but that has not helped one bit as we all know, so today planning, tracking and water, water is my key to working all this out.

I'll be on the phone tomorrow trying to find out for sure if I'll be going to Louisville on Tuesday for Wednesday's pre op stuff or if that has changed. I also have not found out one thing from the blood work that was done last Monday. So many things to have to deal with and I am a bit overwhelmed, but we still have to continue to move forward.

Here's to having a successful week ahead. emoticon if we just emoticon .
