I have a hard time with this too--I would rather have the full fat version and indulge a little than try to cut back on things and not be satisfied. I do a LOT of sharing. I make something at least once a week for my bible study girls and send as much as I can home with them (they're all in college and have roommates) and then I take some to work. I let myself have a little, but try to balance it out with exercise and healthier meals.

I do alot of subbing when I bake, I try to use at least half applesauce in place of fat, use whole grain, and try to cut back sugar and use stevia. Thats just some of the things I do. Debbie emoticon

That is SO sad! But I know what you mean...I love baking and usually end up baking around once a week, but it is so hard not to eat half of your creation. Sometimes I try to avoid it but I just can't...I love trying new recipes too much!

I really don't have any-I avoid baking until I absolutely have to (sad, sad, sad), and then, because I know i'm going to be baking, I allow myself a certain amount. Last weekend, I made these Valentine Brownie cupcakes from the Martha Stewart magazine, and I DID end up eating 3 total over a 4 day period. Not good. I have such a hard time controlling myself around good (sugary!!!) food!

Oh dear I go through the same dilemma. I absolutely love to bake and try out new recipes. I usually take them somewhere (work, class, family) so that I do not have the entire recipe at home waiting to be eaten, but when I am baking, say, chocolate chip cookies? I swear, the dough equivalent of six cookies makes it into my mouth and not the oven! Here is what I try to do:

I DO let myself taste the batter (because I love it but also because often I can tell when it will need more sugar, flour, etc.) BUT...I only taste it after the entire thing has gone in the pan/pie plate/cookie sheet etc. and there is just a bit left on the spoon.

I also have just a small piece when it is done baking to taste my creation, but try not (again, I try, it does not always work) to have seconds or thirds the next few days.

Sometimes while baking I suck on a peppermint or drink something that absolutely does not go with sweets (propel comes to mind here)

What are some of your strategies?

I'm all for making lighter versions of desserts for myself & my family, but I LOVE to bake for work, or whatnot, and when I'm trying to impress, I like to make the full-on fat version of recipes (I'm talking brownies, cupcakes, cookies). I find I often steer away from baking altogether because I don't want to be tempted by what I've made, but that is a bummer because the act of baking is something I greatly enjoy.

How do you balance the two? Do you limit baking to a certain number of times per month, etc?
