I have a snack before I go so that I am not starving. I carry around a diet soda in a pretty glass if I can so I will not feel left out of the drinking crowd because I am not going to waste my calories that way. I change the subject, stay as far away from the table as I can and I mingle through the group of people

Lin, it sounds as if you are on the right track. Keep reading all of the labels, and stick with it! It's great that you have your husband's support!
I was able to do better this week than I expected, as there was a funeral for someone in my church, and a nice luncheon afterward. But I ate the fresh veggies and fruit, and not too much of the other food, but even that was pretty healthy with condiments served separately.

307 - having trouble with teeth as well as dieting so not eating much, lol,
Pam, you asked about dealing with peer pressure. It is always a problem I think - I have to watch what I eat because I'm dieting, because I have Diabetes, because I have Crohn's Disease, and the last few weeks, in heart failure. We rarely anymore have people over for meals or go to others homes except for a couple of close friends or relatives. My husband is pretty supportive and that really helps but I still have to make an effort to think food issues through to myself and not always verbalize my internal calculations and struggles, No matter how supportive someone is, there is always doubt and no one but the one actually experiencing the difficulty can truly understand. Sometimes it gets to me and other times it rolls off my back depending on the day I've had.

Sorry, I haven't finished tracking yet. I do know I had a rough weekend. A graduation party and another party and it seemed like everything was sodium filled.. except for the fruit salad. Anyway, my ankles are swollen so I am working on it. I feel like hubby gets tired of hearing me talk about sodium and I try not to make an issue of it... even though I know it does me so much good if I keep my level to about 1200. How do you all deal with the issue of well, basically, peer pressure?

I'm not sure where you are or if this is available there but in Canada you can buy PC brand and Clover Leaf brand tuna that has 70 mg. of sodium in 60 gr of tuna. The tin holds 170 gr of tuna and is well marked "low sodium." The regular Clover Leaf brand has 189 mg of sodium in 55 gr. of tuna and there are 184 gr. of tuna in the can. So, approx. 70 mg of sodium in 1/2 a cup compared to 189 mg. in 1/2 a cup. Also, when my recipes call for adding salt, I substitute with a product called "No Salt" which is potassium based. Good luck with your recipe. I've found putting some of my recipes on SparkPeople, I am better able to watch the nutrients and know better if I can or can't have some things. I have to keep my sodium intake down to 1200 mg a day. Most people consume 3500 a day.

Well the last two previous days sodium intake was good. But today was out of range. I love my home made tuna pasta salad. Apparently there is a lot of hidden sodium in it. Any ideas on how to cut some of it out.

I had totally forgotten I had joined this team. I updated my e-mail preferences because I wasn't getting notice. Now that I am, I will see this and remember more often! I've been on a very low cal. diet (500-600 cals/day) so keeping to my goal of less than 1200 gr of sodium a day has been relatively easy. Today I had 742 gr,. Once I start adding more foods and larger portions I hope to only go to 1000 cal. and remain under the 1200 gr of sodium.
