I had a really bad day Thursday. I live in a rural area and the corn pollen is high. My face, head, and back of my head hurt. Sinuses were swollen - no air in or out. Finally took a Benadryl and 3 advil to get rid of the pain. Could breathe and pain subsided.

I take Zyrtec (a.m.), Breo (once a.m.) and Singular at night. Also on immunotherapy and have saline nasal spray.

Anyone else having a rough year?

My allergies are trees, grasses, dust, mold, cats, horses....cantaloupe?

God bless those who muddle through! *hugs*

I'd see another doctor. It's not difficult to distinguished asthma from colds or allergies based on symptoms. While there are similarities, the differences are easy to ascertain.

Antihistamines can be bought OTC. Just talk with your Pharmacist and make sure that they are NOT the drowsy causing ones.

I refuse to use 'cough drops' .... not because I don't think that they will work, but because of safety issues. When a person is coughing a lot, they generally take deep inwards breaths and this could cause the cough drop to be sucked back and block the airways.

Hi Kris. Thank you for the suggestions. Can antihistamine be purchased without a prescription?

As far as the eating and drinking, it could be distraction, but it works. If I'm sucking on a cough drop for 5 or 10 mins I don't cough the whole time. Same with eating a meal or sipping on coffee. But within 2-3 mins of stopping, the coughing is back. It's like the mucus builds up fast, unless I'm constantly swallowing.

My husband and I just moved out of state with new jobs and our health insurance hasn't kicked in yet. As soon as it does, I will be going in for a 2nd opinion. Until then, all suggestions for natural remedies or over the counter are appreciated.

I eat to live. Not live to eat. Am I really hungry?

Perhaps you could try an antihistamine daily for while and see if that relieves it. Also, where it comes to coughing, perhaps your Dr might prescribe an inhaler to see if that relieves it.

I don't understand why constantly eating/drinking would stop the coughing other than distractions.

Has your Dr ever noticed/comment on feeling/hearing rattling in your lungs at times like this? Have you BEEN to the Dr when you have been like this? If not, then is the time to go. Other than that, perhaps you could look at seeing a different Dr for a 2nd opinion.

Keep a diary of what happens and when, and what, if anything, provides any form of relief.

Hi all. In the last 9 months I've had a "cold" 3x! Each time I've gone to the doctor, who said it could be allergies, asthma or a cold. How can I tell which it is to find the right meds to treat it?

It starts with a sore throat, then a persistent cough with lots of phlegm. I normally have a headache from coughing so much and nothing stops it but constantly eating or drinking, which is hard to do when you're trying to lose weight. Basically, anytime I try to laugh a choking cough cuts me off.

The first 2 times I had a lot of congestion, but not this time. My eyes are irritated, but I don't know if that's related or not. When I take a deep breath, I can feel/hear a phlegm rattling in my lower lungs.

Any advice on what I'm dealing with, along with meds that can stop it would be GREATLY appreciate!
