Sounds nice, Terri! My nephew's birthday is today. We just add one more present apiece at Christmas. Of course, we don't get together for the other kids birthdays either, so it's fair. :)

Delayed decorating wouldn't work for us as my Prince's birthday is the 24th! When he was a kid, they would gather at Nana and Pop's (paternal gp) with all the cousins and they'd have a birthday party for him--presents, cake and all--then, after his party, out would come all the appetizers and finger foods for Christmas. Then they'd have the family gift exchange. He never felt like he missed out; rather, he felt like he had the biggest party of all because everyone was there. All the cousins still talk about how they miss celebrating his birthday as part of their Christmas with Nana and Pop--and they're all in their 50's and 60's!

We do the same thing now that I've got married kids who struggle with sharing the holiday with in-laws. We just have DH's birthday party--complete with decorations and balloons, cake and ice cream--and then it's Christmas. We do it on Christmas Eve and then the kids can come over on Christmas day if they don't have other obligations. I make a brunch in the morning and dinner later in the day.

Sunny~ We do much the same here. My son's birthday is on the 22nd, so the nativity and such go up after his day.

My daughters birthday is on Dec 18th, we made the decision that we won't decorate for christmas until after her birthday to make sure her special day isn't overwhelmed with the holidays. Also, we're seasonal people rather than holiday people, so the delay doesn't affect our holiday family practices at all! Next week is our Christmas theme (homeschooing at preschool level), so we have a lot of fun stuff planned!!

Attitude is everything!

Yes, I pulled the Christmas CDs and have been playing them like crazy. My ds asked if it wasn't a big bother switching out the piles of CDs for less than a month. I told him it was much easier than decorating. lol

Things are very laid back this year for us. I did order all of our gifts online last evening, I'm NOT a shopper. :O) We don't really decorate here, except for putting up our nativity. We're still getting some things done on the house, but Christmas music is playing all the time in the background. Very soothing, and remindful (I know that's not a word, but I couldn't think of a better one, my mind's not awake yet.)

I know the children want to go shopping for us, but Grandma's has received that job.

Looking forward to having family come to our new home for Christmas breakfast, the sharing of gifts and the sharing of God's Word!

My daughter brought up the wreath and the countdown Playmobil set. I took out the nativity table runner and Advent wreath for the table, and the guys brought home a tree tonight. And shopping's mostly done. How about you?
