Some women from church are heading to a cabin for the weekend, so I'm with them! Haven't decided whether to come back Saturday or Sunday. I should go visit my sil Sunday...

We had yet another birthday party! DD#1's baby girl turned 2, but we also used the occasion to do our name drawing for Christmas. We usually do it sooner than this and then people actually forget whose name they drew! (that would be ME and DH--we always forget) We had some absentees, but had a friend of the family here who handled drawing their names and will call them to tell them who they have. We keep ours a secret from each other to make it more fun. Some of the grandkids are old enough to want to do it too, so we put all the kids names into a bowl and let them draw too. I gave their parents the list of who their kids drew. I love Christmas!

My folks had K for the night Sunday night since we went to a concert. She hadn't stayed for quite a while either!

Yes they are, Tina! As it turned out, the birthday boy and his brother wanted to spend the night with us so we brought them home. My mom was leaving to go home Sunday morning, so she dropped them back at home on her way out of town. They haven't spent the night in quite a while so it was really nice to have them.

We were supposed to go to dinner at my mom and dad's, but her sister and bil are not going to be here til next week now. Works well for us, as we have lots of office work to get done, as well as a soccer game.

The parade was fun and the celebration at the park was great. It was one of the best-attended ever! It was the 50-year anniversary of the event, so there was a lot going on. Not many cars in the car show, but they did have a softball tournament after all. We were able to see and visit with people we don't see very often--sometimes only at this time of the year!

Laser tag sounds like a lot of fun for the kids.

Sounds like fun! I love community festivals and fairs. :-)

We spent Saturday celebrating my son's 12th birthday with a party and 3 long rounds of Laser Tag. So much fun!

Today and tomorrow, we're just going to be hanging out at home, swimming, cooking on the grill, and just having fun together. :-)

I thought I'd bump this thread up since Labor Day Weekend is approaching. What's everyone doing?

Our little town has a parade every year, along with a car show, swap meet/Craft fair, Kiwanis BBQ, etc. at the local park. We used to have a softball tournament too, but haven't in several years now. DD#1 will be in the parade, dressed as the mascot from their elem. school. She's hoping it's not miserably hot as she'll be in a bear costume. Her girls will also be in the parade dressed in '50s costume (that's the theme this year), so it should be a lot of fun. It's the one day of the year when you can see almost everyone in town at the same place.

ADOPTMOM, I use a product called, Tecnu Extreme Wash for poison oak and it works great! When I know I've been exposed, I take a shower and use the wash according to the instructions and it really works! I'm pretty sensitive to poison oak (same oil as poison ivy) and it really limits my rashes. When I get out cutting brush and stuff, I'm always right in the middle of the poison oak. I just get tired of waiting for someone else to do the clearing I want done, so I just do it myself and take the chance of getting poison oak. I never get it very bad anymore, since I've discovered Tecnu products.

There's also a lotion product that you can rub on your exposed skin when you know you're going to be in it and it creates a barrier. Then you shower with the Wash and might not get the rash at all. I just thought it might help :)

Hope it goes away quick and isn't itching too bad! It's in your yard? Were you enlarging the yard?? I'm thinking you have the 'woods' next to you like we do...

I can see why that's a favorite! It sounds SO easy! You could add some corn and olives and make it sort of like a tamale pie (ony with chili). Not so low fat or low cal, but hearty and quick--and I guess you could get it to be pretty low fat if you're careful about the beans.

One of our favorite meals is to pour chili or baked beans into an iron skillet and pouring cornbread batter over the top. I only get to make that when Delaney is spending the night somewhere but it's still a favorite.

We were invited to go to a car show with some friends last weekend. It was a beautiful day that could have been spent doing much-needed yard work, but we went and played instead.

Tambi, when my kids were going in all directions for sports, I used to make things that could be eaten at the ballpark. I saw a recipe on the Bisquik box for making BBQ beef cups. It was biscuit dough pressed into a greased muffin pan and filled with bbq beef. It looked (and was) really good but, as usual, I immediately began to think of other ideas. I later made chili cups by using my cornbread recipe for the dough, and filling it with chili. It was great for lunchboxes or tailgate dinners and my kids still talk about them.

That's what I need to do, cook in batch. But they would have to be LARGE batches. If I find time, I might give it a try for a meal or two, or just to help out with lunch time.

The children have been talking about seeing that movie. Thanks for your imput. :)

I'm going to bake up a bunch of chicken, hard boil a bunch of eggs and make some kind of soup which will cover me for lunches and when the family is eating something that I don't want to. Will also put together a big veggie salad and fruit salad. I made a really good veggie salad the other day with leftover green beans, chopped tomatoes, roasted chicken and a bit of italian dressing. I liked it so much that I think I'm going to make a big version of that for lunches.

What meals are you pre-making??

My teen boys: one went to a church lock-in last night, and another left to go with a friend's family for the weekend to help cut and stack wood. Seemed strange this morning to just have dd 9 here, and she's got her own garage sale going on; figured she may as well make some money if the stuff's going anyway. lol

Think I'll haul in some boxes of books from the trailer to finish refilling my bookshelves. Need to take dd to see How to Train Your Dragon, too.

Just got back from taking the 2 littles to see How To Train Your Dragon. I haven't read the book so I had no expectations. It was very cute and entertaining. Not sure how accurate it was to the book but fun. One note though, Bman is 4 and there were a few intense scenes when he decided a bathroom trip was in order. Older son is at my mom's and older daughter went to "teen night" at the boys and girls club. She came home disgusted by the games girls play and said she should have gone to the movie. LOL

Tomorrow older son is going to an overnight birthday GUYS day. Older daughter is going to my mom's. There's some sort of missions thing going on at their church and they're having a hog roast. Taking the younger two to a birthday party and then Deder is bringing home her BFF for a slumber party. I bought the stuff to make turnovers from puff pastry. D has never had one because most contain corn starch so we're making them ourselves. Also going to run into JoAnns tomorrow AM and pick up something crafty to entertain them.

Sunday I'm doing a bunch of cooking for the week as I started doing the Abs diet for women. I want to premake as many of my breakfasts and lunches as possible.

Whew! Busy weekend when you read through that. Thank goodness for sugar free Red Bull. I feel a can coming on for the morning rush. LOL

I'd love to get outside this weekend. We have four ball practices scheduled tomorrow and a double-header game on Sunday after church, but it's supposed to pour down rain all weekend. We'll see, God's in control of it all. So if I'm resigned to staying inside this weekend, I'll put my hip-waders on and go down into the basement and put all of the winter clothes away. That could take all day or more. But if the weather is kind to us, I'll be at the ball field most of the weekend. :)

Everyone, have a great weekend!

Just wondering. :)

I hope to get some yardwork in. I've been so busy doing paperwork I haven't gotten out there yet. It would be nice to plant a few seeds, too!
