I totally agree on that!!! We did Infinity today, which is a lot about the shoulders and opening the upper body. One of the women in the class said that it got her in touch with all that she has been holding in her neck and she felt 30 pounds lighter!

I still love Sanctuary!

We do NIA at lunch time at work, and our teacher is wonderful. She is teaching us Opal right now, and it's a good one. I can't believe I get so sweaty doing what seems so easy and comfortable. I really like NIA and will be checking out the site, so that I can buy a DVD to do at home. I've actually lost a little weight too, which is nice. I think NIA is good for people like me who don't like to exercise!

We had a substitute today who wasn't nearly as good as my regular teachers, but it was still enjoyable!!!

I took Nia today. My instructor talked about the 13 joints and 20 digits. I cannot remember the routine we did. It was fabulous and I feel wonderful!

I have only been taking Nia for 5 months and I only take it 1 day a week. There is so much information to learn. So far, every class has been great. Every week I feel stronger and more free. I have never experienced freedom like this before.

Yeah, it takes a while to learn the names of routines. I've been doing NIA for a year and a half and am just beginning to recognize them!

Isn't it wonderful?????????

I don't know any of the names but my favorites are ones that are focused on the heart - really let's me focus on being more open and I love free dance. The first time I was a bit anxious but I got over that pretty quickly!

we did some hand focus too.

I love those "sweeping" steps and turns, where your arms just follow you. I feel so graceful in my 250 pound body!!

Hey Sun Panther! and Pammy

IT's great to see another Nia freak like us. THis morning I taught "Marisi" from DreamWalker White Belt. IT's only one song, another teacher did the class. Teachers have been lettting me do a song or two during their classes for practice. My favorite part of this was when it was over and I got to go back into my little corner and dance. Our focus was watching our hands, which I loved. Makes me feel kinda dizzy and tranced out.

I have now been to 2 Nia classes and i am more than hooked!! I loved ALL of it.

It reminded me mainly of 2 things - when i was a young girl dancing (probably to abba, queen, or the rolling stones!) in the living room, by myself, young and free...

And the old Spiral dances i used to go to about 10 years ago - smoke free, alcohol free etc where people could bring their drums, and dance and play all night - really primal, and really healing.

I just felt at the Nia class, such a sense of joy. Havent been able to move like that for YEARS.
I dont know the name of the routine we did - will get back to you.

Jen

I asked about "Clarity" and it is one that I enjoy. I need to ask about "Sanctuary."

I have other exciting new experiences:
1) On Thursday the 16th, we had an Elvis Death Day NIA and danced only to Elvis tunes! It was so much fun.

2) The week before, we had live drummers and free- danced for the entire hour. It was amazing! We danced in a circle an took turns being the leader. It was so primal and you could feel it in your heartbeat and your bones. The drums inspired us to work our bodies hard. It was my sweatiest NIA experience by far!

I had the wonderful opportunity to go on a NIA retreat this weekend. The plan was to spend Friday and Saturday night in a retreat center, but Thursday night the center burned down in a freak accident (All people and animals affiliated with the center were fine)!

Our amazingly resilient NIA instructor organized a day retreat for all day Saturday. We drove about 2 hours north of Atlanta towards the mountains to the "Center on Warwoman"- which seemed perfect for NIA!

The day included laughter yoga, hula-hooping, and journaling exercises, in addition to NIA.

It was amazing! I documented a day-in-my-life. You and see the slideshows at the link below. Click once on each thumbnail to make it big. Start with #1, even though it is on the right.

I didn't get any good photos of the group dancing because some people weren't comfortable having their photo taken. We also did some quiet serene dances that I didn't want to interrupt with a camera and a flash.
