Bevel, good for you in getting off the computer and taking care of that area. Sounds like you need to figure out a way to stop you from just dumping things there---what kind of stuff do you dump there? Maybe we could all offer you some suggestions---also, how much space to you have when you come in?
LBS, you go, girl! I need to do paperwork, too---but not today.
Nothing on my agenda today as I have had a busy day plus an activity tonight---and hip pain is giving me fits---but I have done a lot this summer so just have little things to do ----besides that darn paper pile---I need a shredder!

Today, I will start with my living room which is the first room anyone sees as they enter my home. It is so easy to come in after a tired day of errands and chores to simply drop my bags or items down on the floor in a hideous corner which I always seem to make "later" plans to pick them up. Needless to say whether the plan always work. So, I will tackle things in the front room before it really builds up. As a matter of fact, I am going to pause here and go do it now. I am signing off for now and chat with you guys later because it's time for me to "walk the walk"...later and have the greatest moments ever!

Today I spent some time organizing in the dining room. Still more to go as this tends to become the "catch all" area.

I have a special drawer in the kitchen for that kind of stuff---but I have a ton of it as I decorate cakes for weddings, etc. HOpe you find them.
I found a spot for the TV tables in my son's closet and also put the big suitcase in there, too. Then I had room in his old room in the corner to put my scrapbooking supplies there---no longer in my dining room---yeah! Found some bags of stuff I need to go thru---will start that today in 15 minute time intervals---just mostly paper work I had piled up.

Cleaning out the frig in the kitchen and organizing the little chest freezer in the garage so they are sparkling and ready for my catering/cooking job for the harvest crew. Had another big thunderstorm with rain and tiny hail last night so didn't start cooking for them today. Bought lots of 97/3 hamburger that was on sale over the weekend and some cases of Pepsi products and broke down the hamburger packages into ziptop bags for the size I will need for this job. Also got the chicken separated into smaller packages and into the freezer. It's all coming along, slowly, but surely.

Got a lot of stuff into garbage bags while trying to find 80 birthday cards for my mom for today. I bought the little 8 and the little 0 candles but have no idea where they are...too late to worry about it now!!

In the other bedroom someone had expanded the area where the original closet was---can tell from the flooring and we could have done that, but not as long a space---so I took the old closet and put shelves in it for more storage---it works great that way. But the one thing I don't like about the other room's closet---it has doors, it that you have 2 areas that you just can't see everything you have ---my "dead" area in my new closet is only about 6 inches and easy to push things towards one end to see that stuff---I usually keep the out of season stuff in those small stuff---like sleeveless in the winter and for the dresses, sleeveless---then when the season merits, I pull them back out to the front section and put other stuff there.

That sounds great! Will definately think about the two rod idea. I also like your idea of how you used your wall space. We're not able to do that because we have a very small room, but something to keep in mind for the future.

You do know that you can buy something to make part of your closet into 2 hanging areas above each other?
When we moved here the closet in the biggest room was so small and you could not put hangers in to hang correctly and close the small door---it is a really big room so I got my sons to build me a nice long closet along one wall--10 feet long---we had them put one long section with double rods for our shirts, some shelves, and then a section that I can hang my dresses and put a shoe organizer for my shoes there----I use curtains for the doors so you can get to everything in there---I got that idea from Clean Sweep and I love it---it also softens the room.
My mom has moved home so today I am going into that bedroom and start packing up some of my son's little items he left---then he can go thru them on his own time and decide whether to keep them or whatever.

I am going to try to start organizing my closet today. I always seem to put off organizing my closet and then it gets too full and I can't find things. Unfortunately I have one of those regular, small closets with just one rod and one shelf so that makes it hard sometimes. I discovered a show on Netflix called Clean House which is similar to Clean Sweep. Will turn that on to watch while cleaning.

Good idea---I have 3 bags ready to go but it is just too hot to run by and don't want them cluttering the car---but thinking next week they are going----my mom moved back home today so I won't have to worry about her. Now I can work on that room and get the floor done in there once my son gets the rest of his stuff out of there---a nice TV stand and a flat screen tv and his desk chair.

Washing and replacing those curtains does not sound like any fun, but it will look nice when you are done. My project is cleaning in the kitchen area today. We have a dishwasher repairman coming out tomorrow to see why our dishwasher is not working right. The warranty runs out next week, so hopefully he gets it in better working condition. It seems like appliances just don't last like they used to.

Clean Sweep was the name, I think. Loved it and a lot of the pointers on there really helped me with my decluttering---and it helped me when we got ready to move, too.
I am having issues with my cats---I am trying to keep my counters and dining room table cleared---and now the cats won't stay off them----grrrrr---so maddening---guess I am going to have to get the foil out and put sheets of it out when we are not home or at night.
Need to declutter my desk---again!

I loved that show where they emptied everything out to clean the house. What was that show called?

That sounds like a good idea to share the Christmas decorations. I'm sure your son will enjoy them.

My project this afternoon is to work on clearing the dining table. It would be nice to be able to sit down to dinner. I joined the Healthy Family Challenge today and that is one of the points it mentioned was sitting down to dinner together and not eating in front of the t.v.

Good idea to move everything out and paint and get it ready for the new look. And if you are not going to reread those books, donate them to a library---they can use them for a sale and have money for new books---that is what most of them do with donations. I had to laugh about the King of Christmas---you have not seen our basement---LOL---actually, there is a blog that shows our first year in this house of our Christmas lights that blink to the music---and that is just part of what we have from our old place---we have yet to use everything we set up in that yard---just not as much space. But since my son bought his own house this year and he loves Christmas lights, too---he will be taking things from there to use in his yard which is much larger than ours---this will save him lots of money to use our stuff and we still will have lots to put up---and I decorate the inside to the hilt---have a huge Christmas village collection and a large tree and lots of decorations

I don 't know about "the shade". Seems the only thing getting shaded was the lawn and gardens. The sun still beats down on the roof and is in the front of the house during the day. Just got morning sun protection from them. I'm still loving how wide open it looks. Was working on some transplants and clearing junk out of the yard last night and my mom came out and sat for awhile and said how nice it really does look. I moved an old washtub of petunias to one of the stumps-they just sawed them to the ground-and put my 75 year old cement birdbath on another. Looks pretty cool.

No, the place was a duplex when I bought it. And my mom took the bigger side since I was here for work during the week and my husband lived in another town 125 miles south so I went "home" on the weekends. It was good space for just the tiny bedroom and small living room and kitchen. Has no dining room and not even really enough space for a table in the kitchen. My husband died and I took a job in Chicago where I bought a 3 bdrm/2 bath house. So I came back here with the household goods from that house and lots of boxes of things from a 25 yr marriage that I just wasn't ready to go through and discard. There is a basement here with access only from mother's side so I have to go in her back door to get there-which keeps me out of there at night or risk waking her. I have done very well in the last 2 years going through and getting rid of the Christmas and holiday stuff-I swear my dad was the Prince of Christmas and Mike was the King of Christmas. He bought tons and tons of Christmas decorations and lights and all kinds of things for Christmas-and used all of it. I had a really hard time parting with it, even though I didn't get it out and enjoy it like he did.

So that part of the clutter is now under control. My basic problem is that I have a beautiful dining room set and no where to put it, bookcases full of books and bedroom furniture too big for the tiny bedroom. So what I did was put the dining room table and chairs and the china hutch in the bedroom and made it into a dining room and then moved the bedroom into the living room. That is the best workable solution for me. I made the front porch into a walk-in closet and only use the back entrance.

So now I need to get rid of the bookcases that are here in the bedroom and the huge Mediterranean triple dresser and bring in the wall unit bedroom stuff and buy a double bed and then will be able to have my two swivel rockers in the bedroom aka living room for watching TV. So it's just very slow progress as I can't make up my mind what to keep and what to lose. Now that I have, I feel in a rush to get the dresse and bookcases out of here but have to box up and move stuff for that to happen. Now that the weather is nicer and less chance of rain I think I will just do like they do on TV and haul it all out to the backyard and then start with the room all clean and fresh paint before I move in the wall unit for the bed and get a coat of varnish on the old hardwoods before I bring back in the stuff.

Getting rid of clothes and books has helped a lot. Must get busy. It's cool outside so can finish up transplanting the lilies. Fence is still down. Guy didn't show up last night so am hoping he comes today or tomorrow. I rigged up a chicken wire barricade for the dogs and just have to go out with them. Also need to get the lawn mowed. My "big" decluttering project for the weekend is to get this huge dresser out of here and the swivel rockers and rugs out ot the garage besides getting the yard work finished. Then will breathe a sigh of relief and start on the bookcases. So have vowed to spend less time on spark people this weekend to get that accomplished. Hope everyone has a great weekend and keeps FLYing and Sparking!

Hope when it is super hot you don't regret not having the shade. I take it you split your house into 2 parts for your mom. but with more Space, won't you still have a clutter issue if you can't get rid of stuff---and moving to a new place has that same issue---the problem with renting is that it always goes up and up---and betting your mom does not realize or found out how much those assisted living places cost---they are expensive---and often a waiting list, too. A new garage sounds like a good investment and reusing the old one for a better purpose makes sense.
Taking my mom back to her house today and then stopping to help a friend who is back on Spark to relearn how to use it again---so not sure what I will get done today.
And yes, I consider doing laundry and putting it away as part of decluttering as not doing it gets us into trouble as we pile up more stuff.

The trees are all gone except for one right next to the garage that my mom begged to keep so he trimmed it up. You can't imagine how much bigger the yard looks and all the sunshine that is flooding down now that that canopy of dead branches is gone.

They got here at 8:15 this morning and we discussed what was coming down and what else might need to be moved and disconnected the power line-which was running from my back porch and attached to two of the trees that were coming down plus the one that mother saved. I was so impressed with the safety briefing and all the communication that went on between this team from Tarzan. A fairly young guy who does this seasonally-which in MT means summers-and then stays home and takes care of his children while his wife teaches school. His younger brother and sister are his "team" which I think is just great. And boy are they workers! Mom and I went out to breakfast and then I took a little nap since I never did go to bed last night. They cut down 3 big trees in my backyard and one big tree between my side of the duplex and my neighbor's-it was ruining my sidewalk and she died 3 years ago so her place has been for sale for 2 years and I can't imagine how much damage there must be to the foundation of her place. They cut down 4 medium-sized dead Russian Olive trees on my mother's side-the hillside and one caragana I didn't want gone...but no harm done, and one dead one down near the front sidewalk and then a big tree in the front yard and trimmed up the branches on another that I kept thinking would poke my eye out while I was mowing! And they raked and they chipped and shredded and they were done by 3:15 even though they took an hour out for lunch. It was amazing. It was enlightening. I can't get over how open and bright it is. How huge the backyard looks.

It's like an Ah Ha moment. To clear out the dead wood so the sunshine can come in. Yes, it was sad but my mother just didn't /wouldn't understand that not all trees live 500 years. These trees had past their maturity and weren't healthy anymore. The biggest one was totally rotten on the inside. So many people have lost trees-they just uprooted in the wind and rain...downing power lines as they fell this year. I didn't want to be in that group. I had checked with my contractor friend about putting in a new garage across the back and he suggested we knock out the back fence and put it all the way up to the tree so there was still a parking pad behind the garage on the alley. That was the tree that was so rotten. I was worried in our constantly windy area that some of those huge limbs would come shooting down and impale one of my beloved dogs in a windy thunderstorm and we've had more than our fair share of them already this spring/summer. So now that goal seems attainable. A new garage to park in the long cold winters...the one we have now can only loosely be called a garage and only my mom could park it in. Now it can be a permanent storage shed and workroom for me. I'm not looking to get more stuff, just to have the space to do projects that I enjoy and keep some of the things I really don't want to part with. And having the fence down and needing to be put back up has made me realize how much easier it would be to have it put in on a hinge-type system so some of the concrete work that needs to be done and some of the remodeling could easily be accomplished...and maybe that should be done before the new garage goes up.

My mom will be 80 on the 29th of this month. I really thought she'd be out of here by now and I could convert back to a single family home so that I had room. But she is still very healthy and working and volunteering and no move in sight. That's part of my clutter problem. I honestly don't have enough space for what I want in my life. But I do not know how to bring it up. So will have the discussion about tearing off the back porch and creating a shared space we could use for entertaining and storage and moving the laundry out of the basement. Part of this is not my fault as she keeps telling people she wants to move into the efficiency apt type retirement place where they serve meals and then she doesn't go. I am also thinking seriously of applying to these new apts with a garage-brand new-that you must be 55 to live in...and I'll be 55 in August. It just seems like such a waste to pay to live somewhere else when I own this place outright but don't have the space that I need. Like clearing out the deadwood in the backyard and bringing in the sun, I guess what I need to do to move forward is to clear the air and get honest about the future plans so I can make a decision and move forward.

Wow, I can't believe I just wrote all that. I must have really needed to unload. So thanks for listening. I am moving forward in fits and starts and getting rid of these trees that have created too much shade in my yard...and there has been so much growth over the 17 years here...and that's unbelievable to me...have meant that the garden spot is in the shade now and so many of the flowerbeds got too much shade and those perennials had to be changed to survive. So my yard has taught me a whole lot this last month!
And SP is helping me to focus on goals and tracking and honesty.

True, small steps are better. Had a busy day today, but did get caught up on laundry. I guess that counts.

Penny, good to do it in steps anyhow---won't feel so overwhelmed---and it is too hot to spend a lot of time in a shed right now.
LInda, quite a day!
Today go with dh to the surgeon to see what he says---and hope to hear about my knee, too. MIght get these bags of clothes out of here and to the donation boxes today---that would be a good thing.

Had a really busy day but outside, not inside. Took out the back fence and hauled 15 35# cement border blocks - 2 at a time in the wheelbarrow so the tree guy can get in the backyard with his bucket truck tomorrow to cut down 5 old trees. Then had to take a bunch of stuff from the backyard to the garage so it wouldn't get hit by falling branches. Then had to dig out a 15 ft perennial bed and set those plants somewhere else until I figure where they will find a new permanent home. Threw lots of things in the dumpsters as tomorrow-well, about 5 hours from now, is garbage man day! I have set my alarm for 5:30 which will not be much sleep but still have some things to get done before he gets here. Have to clear a path to the electrical box on the back porch so I can disconnect the power line that runs to the garage.

I took a break to make nice chicken walnut salads for my mom and myself and eat during Jeopardy! She reminded me I was supposed to take cheese balls and baby powder to my friend's Mom in the nursing home so ran up and did that. I told my mom I'd take her for a root beer float because I had coupons. Well, the coupons had expired and I refuse to pay $2.49 for anything to drink so got one for her and then stopped in and got a large coffee for me! See, God is watching out for me because I didn't need the calories. Gained a pound last week so need to be watching more carefully.

Finished up what I could still see and was so proud of myself for all the things that went to the dumpster by 11:15 p.m. and came in and changed my shirt and ran to Subway for a half tuna sand. Got another coffee and came home and soaked in an Epsom salt tub and then ate my sandwich and logged in here before bed. Know I'll be working outside most of the day again tomorrow. Good physical labor and lots of sweating as we've had unusual rains and now with the heat it's very humid. Then will get back to my FlyLady stuff. I am still shining my sink and swishing and swiping and it's so great to take a tired, sweaty, dirty, fat body to a bathtub that's sparkling clean!! and to get a drink of water and have the shiny sink winking up at me! Have a great hump day everyone!

Spent some time in the shed this morning, but then it got really hot so I will have to wait until another time, maybe early in the morning time, to work out there again when it's not so hot. I did get one large bag filled for Goodwill donation and found a couple of sweatshirts that my older son had outgrown to bring in for my younger son to wear this winter. I went ahead and took the donation bag for drop off this afternoon to get it out of here.

Remember to do it in stages so you don't feel overwhelmed.
Today is a kitchen counter day---have let the crock pot sit out too long ---just putting that away will make a big improvement.

I am going to try to spend some time organizing in my shed. It used to be very organized but over the last few years has become a mess.

Today was supposed to be all about the sewing room, but my friend who volunteered to help and I hit a snag trying to figure out how to make the closet in the room usable. The problem is that it's only 29 inches wide, but it's 55 inches deep!!! I need to figure out how to put storage in there that I can get to...

On the plus side, we upgraded the bathroom a little bit. I now have a curved shower curtain rod, new liner and shower curtain, new rug that coordinates with the curtain and the cabinet that didn't work in the closet is perfect for bathroom storage!

Yesterday I finished folding the clothes that I've washed over the last year and cleaned some more too small stuff out of my bedroom closet. Some I put away for when they fit again and the rest I will donate. Now I just need to fold the clothes I've washed in the last month...

I need to put those clothes in my car and drop them off myself---but thinking the one with sweatshirts in it, I might find a home for that and then give it to a homeless shelter for those guys when it gets cold.

Today I took a large bag of clothes to Goodwill. Also took two larger toys that we cleaned out of my son's toy box. We are fortunate to have a Goodwill near us, so I keep donations in the trunk and then drop them off when we get out to do errands.

Sounds like you have a plan for those clothes that works. I went thru my dh's t-shirts, sweatshirt and longjohns---getting rid of a lot of sweatshirts---his belly is so big that some of them are just too short---figured if they just came to the top of my pants, they would be too short on him---he looks like he is 8 months pregnant and I am top heavy so figure that is about even---did get rid of a couple of stained t-shirts, too---but he must have gone thru the longjohns and tossed some that were bad---I think I found one shirt to get rid of there. There is a local church that feeds the homeless so thinking I will contact them to see if they will store the sweatshirts til cold weather---otherwise Goodwill or Salvation Army will get them. Ours are pretty good here.
Today I am going to go thru his work pants and know that he did not get rid of his required 3 at 2x so that thing is getting hard to close---I can donate them, too.

I know that what I am secretly thinking is that I may go back to work outside and will want it again. So I am going to box up the best stuff to save for me and take the rest over to my friend Connie. She still works outside and she also has sons who have just started working over in the Bakken in the oilfield and they will use it. I got a kick out your throwing out DH's long underwear. I have some old woolies from my Army days in the late 80's up to 1990 and I still wear them. Did toss one pair of bottoms last winter but the others are still in great shape and I love them for sleeping and for wearing under my jeans when I shovel snow or travel. I had darned that pair I tossed just one too many times. I love my cuddle dud sets and just not ready to part with them. Was too fat for them to be comfortable sleeping in last winter but have faith I will get to use them this winter...and they are almost brand new. I did decide though, that if I can't wear them I will donate them.

I got 15 beautiful jackets from my friend who just moved. I am only keeping one and the rest will go to Sunny for distribution to her sons. Reality is that I just don't wear a coat very often and I got a "new" wool pea coat at the Goodwill in Great Falls last winter and it's just what I've wanted for years...plus have a lined denim and one nice long dress coat and one long coat for the bitter cold windy days...and most often don't wear a coat. Makes everyone crazy. So since these are in such nice shape and all men's jackets and Sunny's boys and one of her young co-workers are all 2XL I figure that's a better use of them then taking to the Salvation Army. Our homeless shelter (we don't have a shelter!) kind of stores need sweats and denim jackets. The nice kind no one takes. I did get rid of lots of my smaller size outdoor work clothes, both summer and winter to my friend who is a rancher. She and her girls are always going thru those kinds of clothes. Working at the RR and in mechanical fields the stuff is often stained or that diesel smell never really comes out so lots of places/people won't take them...even though they are warm and in great shape. And we only have a Salvation Army and they throw away more clothes than they sell. Anything that's stained or missing a button or smells of cigarette smoke or whatever they just throw. I have asked about just putting a table or rack with those items marked "Free" but they don't want to to do that so I don't want to donate to them. Sadly I take most of my stuff to the Goodwill in Great Falls which is 120 miles south...but I feel like it makes a difference to them and not to the group up here. And lots of others feel this way in this town. There used to be a woman who lived in a corner house and had a chain link fence and she hung clothes all the way around the corner and if you wanted any of it you were free to take it. And she put a notice in the paper 3 years ago that she was too old to continue. And there used to be a giveaway house here but it's in all kinds of litigation and closed...so I guess we're posting stuff on facebook now. I still haven't done that, but might end up going that route. I did put some furniture in the alley a couple blocks away and put a facebook ad and it was snatched up right away. I'm very weird about having people I don't know come check out things. It's one of the bigger reasons I don't just hold a rummage sale. I don't feel safe having people know how easily accessible the stuff in the garage is and that there are several empty homes near me so would be easy to have someone get the idea this might be a great neighborhood to rob. I don't want to have to start locking up everything and neither does my neighbor so we've agreed to just keep a low profile and so far I still feel pretty safe here.

LInda, yes, I struggle with that at times---but having more space makes me feel better so I am getting better at that. Maybe you should box up that cold weather stuff and when it gets cold, take it to a homeless shelter---think how happy that will make those people ---afraid if you take it now, it might get lost or not passed out when needed. Interesting concept you plan for that bedroom unit. Have you measured a full to make sure it fits that way? But it does make sense since it is only you and the dogs sleeping in it. My dh has issues getting rid of stuff--he has clothes he has not worn so thinking I will make him go thru a drawer or cabinet at a time. The big issue with him are his work clothes---he gets 3 new shirts and pants for the winter and then 3 shirts and shorts for the summer---and man, I try to get him to get rid of 3 others when the new ones come in as he has about 12 of each stockpiled from past years---I tell him that is enough---I don't mind the shirts as I have a front loader and with my son moved out, doing less laundry and it takes a while to build up enough clothes to do a load plus if I go away, he has plenty of clean clothes til I come back.
Today I might go thru my dh's cold weather clothing ---know some of his long johns have holes and I am going to get rid of them while he is not home---LOL

Thanks for all the advice and well wishes on the knee. Lecate had it right and it was the IT band. The potassium in the bananas helped as did the Epsom salt soak and a long massage of the whole muscle from hip to calf while in the hot water and then later on the bed with a percussion massager that I have. Much better today. Glad to hear you got your bookcase together. I have one I have had for 3 years....aw the joys of retail therapy. I have a set of 3 in my bedroom that are full and just too big for this room. They are too deep. I am going to put on in the kitchen to use for pantry and spices, one to the front porch that I converted to walk-in closet and will used for folded clothes like sweaters (which I have a bazillion of) and jeans and top shelf for jewelry boxes and accessory stuff and the other I am still trying to decide. I need to move a big old heavy Mediterranean 9 drawer chest out and have some kids come help me move it to the basement on my mom's side of the duplex and get rid of the one that's down there. I bought a bedroom set from a friend when I helped her move to another town and it's a wall unit kind so am motivated to get this whole area cleared so I can get the new stuff in here and get a new bed. This unit is for a king-sized bed but am going to buy a new double bed and put it in sideways. I think it will work perfectly. I'd use a nice twin I have in the basement but the dogs are bed hogs and I would end up sleeping on the floor!!

Didn't let the knee get me too far down today although I did not do my Sweatin to the Oldies dance tape, just the Stretchin to the Classics one. Read the water exercise e-mail with interest as I did lots of water rehab in the Army at Ft Braggwhaddadragg after my left ankle tendon reconstruction. They were really big on that water rehab and it really is easier on joints and I have always liked to swim. Pool closed this week for the 4th of July??? so will plan on starting in at 6:30 a.m. on Monday!

Had a great day with decluttering as tomorrow is garbage man day and I wanted to be sure to get my monies worth...HA!! Hauled out 4 more bags of magazines and newspaper articles and pages of magazines I had saved with recipes I had never/will never try. I got 2 more bags of clothes to take to my friend in Great Falls on Thursday. What she doesn't want or can't use she is free to pass on or donate. I got 3 boxes of books to take to the senior center for an upcoming rummage sale. When I was going thru clothes I also threw out some that were too stained to donate. I got 5 brand new t-shirts from my "moving friend" so figured since 5 came in I could let go of 5 and then found several others that I was just keeping for painting and gardening and thought that's why you have a washing machine.

I am having a hard time letting go of my winter long underwear and winter outside stuff. I used to work outside in the winter and have some great stuff for outside. Gave a friend some of the smaller sizes for use at her farm for her and the girls...but keep thinking I might need it for someday. I am going to take it all out of the boxes and drawers and go thru it again. That is part of moving the big dresser is to go thru those clothes and get rid of more stuff. I know there are so many people who need warm winter clothes...it really gets bitter cold 40 below here....but I use some of the long underwear as winter pajamas and some of the bottoms just for everyday under my jeans wearing in the winter months...but know I have too much and too many sizes of the stuff....do any of you struggle with the "WHY??" you don't want to let go of certain items?
