Iím rounding up all stray clothes and other soft things (blankets, towels, etc) wash what needs, declutter the pile, store what stays.

If that leaves me time and energy, Iíll round up all personal care items and cull/store those, too.

Hm, maybe I can do both at once as far as gathering goes...

If my house is neat, I'm less stressed and can enjoy the visit. I even clean for service people.

Susan, you've made fabulous progress in a lot of areas.

Hope you enjoy that visit from your friend---but do remember she is coming to see you , not critique the house.
Susan, sometimes you can over think things. I have seen them turned into benches but not a swing---either way will be nice. I have put the file box here by my desk with the shredder on top of it---that way I can just put stuff in when I pay the bills and it doesn't take up any more room than the shredder does.
Bought some stuff for school yesterday---and a bin to take it all to school in and keep the mice out of it---it's orange, too!
Hope to do a bit more today---might actually get out the Back to School flag to annoy the local kids---heehee.

I've been very productive lately.
I've got myself a new habit of spending some quiety time in the morning and evening when the family is in bed. I've been 'decluttering' my stack of books that I'm supposed to be reading and returning to people. Even if I can only read a little, it's still PROGRESS.
I've also been finding things to declutter in my craft room. Getting those chairs completed helped. My rebounder is back there, and I'm supposed to be watching a show while jumping, but I keep getting distracted looking around the room to see what can be tossed or better organized! haha...guess that's a good thing.
I got rid of a bookshelf that was partially blocking an outside door.
I started a bench project. I'm taking a double bed frame that once belonged to my childhood best friend, and I'm either going to make it into a bench or maybe a swing for the play yard area. We got the legs cut down for a bench, but I'm still trying to decide about the swing. I'm having fun dreaming up a color to paint it. It all depends on which part of the yard I want to use it.
I also have a pile of material saved for a braided rug. I cut it into the required 3 inch strips, while I watched The Waltons with my youngest daughter the other night.
I began clearing my writing desk. And a basket that's got stuff in it for the past 2-3 years...of 'important' stuff. (maybe not so important?)
I have my own filing cabinet drawer and am keeping binders for various things. 1. my writing 2. my medical records 3. my work experience list. That makes it easy when I find papers lying around the house- now I have no excuse for procrastinating on making my life easier.

I just took a deep breath and sighed, my school year is going to be soooo busy. But I'll write about that another day.

Ta Ta!!!

It's Worth Giving.

Good news---Dh has been released by the wound center so now he can start helping with chores again!
Need to tackle something today since I have a long weekend. I might see about filling up the donation bag and dropping it off today. That would get some things out of the laundry basket I dropped stuff in the other week.

The house is still neat and tidy from having company last night. I need to wash the kitchen and laundry floors, but the dishwasher was emptied the first time I woke up at 4. Dental appointment mid-afternoon. Don't know if I'll feel like doing anything after that.

Pat, hope you find time to get rid of more of that stuff in there or find a proper home for it.
Tina, totally agree---just not fair that insurance can override doctor orders.
Did get my box at work unpacked and put on my desk area---not sure how the year will go but we will see---not a great first impression of the new teacher but I will keep an open mind on that.
I have to take Dh to 2 doctor appointments today but hope to get something done at home either today or this long weekend.

Not much done today. Spent a little time in the master bedroom tidying. Tomorrow I go with my MIL for her check in for her broken hip. Hopefully she'll be able to put some weight on her leg and finish physical therapy. They put a halt on it since she wasn't progressing, but couldn't progress without the dr's okay. Insurance companies should not dictate your care.

A couple weeks ago when it was time to pull up the carpet, I loaded a lot of things into the china closet. Last night I needed a tube pan and had to sort through a lot of those boxes. Found two were empty, so they were moved out. Some of the rest were rearranged, but there is still way too much stuff in there. Ugh.

I did something wrong when I put the roaster pan away in the bottom drawer. Now I can't get the thing open, so I'll have to empty the one above it and rearrange. After that, I start cooking for tomorrow's guests. Spinach dip and carrot cake today.

Pat, good idea.
Tina, glad it is better---good idea to call for a pick up.
I got some housework done yesterday before we went to OC with our gd. I go back to work tomorrow but the kids don't start school here until after Labor Day. I am already taking off the 2nd day of work to take Dh to 2 doctor appointments---he is doing a lot better and I hope he can get back in his truck this week and be able to drive at least to local areas for his appointments. My car is being serviced today but they will being me home and pick me up so I hope to get to some more chores here at home.

My back is doing better, thanks for asking! Not great, but it is improving. I was able to do the recumbent bike for 25 min this morning. I start physical therapy Sept 5.

It is the first day of school so up early and getting the kids out the door went pretty smoothly. For my first day of freedom emoticon I went to visit my MIL, out to lunch and to the library. Tomorrow I'm getting a pedicure.

Today is kitchen day: counters, island, wipe cabinets and backsplash, stove top, wipe stainless steel. Not too bad, should take less than an hour. I plan on using my days wisely to get a lot done around the house. I can't bend over very much so the yard work is out for now, but I can get a lot of stuff sorted and ready for Goodwill. Maybe I'll call them for a pick up so i don't have to lug it in the van. Hmmmm....

My desk still need attention, so I'll work on that today. The kids start school tomorrow so I have to fill out all the school paperwork for the kids to take back. They need to pack up their backpacks. The kids did help me clean yesterday. I worked on the counters and they vacuumed upstairs, the steps, and downstairs for me. Laundry is done. Now - the budget, grocery shopping and my desk! Onward!

The shredding is done---I even double checked---Now I need to vacuum. Also went thru a stack of magazines and put them in the recycle bin after I looked thru them. I think most of them won't be renewed as there doesn't seem to be much substance in them at my age.

Tina, sounds like you wil be busy this school year. Sounds like the kids have found their place in the new schools.
I still have to finish the shredding---but I paid the bills yesterday and actually filed that paperwork away since the file box was out here---not shoved in the drawer somewhere. I hope to find time to finish the shredding today---not that much left unless I find another batch of papers somewhere---LOL I need to vacuum but not until I am done the shredding--always seem to get a few stray pieces when I empty the bin when it gets full.

Today I'm going to work on laundry and picking up my bedroom. Lots of little things just left around and it really could use a vacuuming. My oldest needs to clean the loft which is right outside our room - it's where the XBox is and where the kids hang out. My daughter will be tidying her room and my youngest will be vacuuming the main living areas. I also need to run to the library and return some overdue books.

It's the last day of summer break so we might try to go to the pool later and it is the first football game and my oldest is in marching band so we will be going to that tonight.

I am still shredding papers. I was in the midst of doing that when the visiting nurse and then the PT person showed up so I didn't want to make so much noise while they were talking and working with Dh. I am trying to get to the spare room but it seems like every time I start, something comes up with the care of Dh. I go back to work next week and I don't think it will be totally done by then. But I will keep plugging along with that.

Tina, hope they didn't complain too much---my dh says that hurts his back, too---but I still make his do it when I am working---right now I am doing all his chores and I am already tired of that---LOL---plus the nursing stuff---getting his food, his meds, emptying the urinal so he doesn't have to walk as much, etc.
I went in the spare room and did a bit more---and decided it was time to go thru my file box and shred stuff in there--so I started on that yesterday before we left for the doctor. So a bit more accomplished.

emoticon that is so funny! I do the same thing! When my hubby finally notices it, he gets all frustrated and issues a whole house decree, very loudly, that we will not leave things around and put things where they go. Then we have a massive 'clean the house' day or two, with grumpy kids and grumpy hubby, the dog hiding from the vacuum, and me just shaking my head.

Today I want to get my desk finished, the kitchen island cleaned off (again) and get my kiddos to vacuum. Not going to push it with my back hurting, but at least it's something.

Tina, LOL, that is the best way to get it out of the house. But I have a Susan story for you on that one. We bought a new light for our bathroom at our old place--one that my dh could install himself as it had a cord---first it sat by my side of the bed, then I put it in the closet on his side so he would see it every time he got his clothes out---after over a year it was still not up so I moved it to his side of the bed---he had to move it every time he had to get his underwear and socks out of his dresser---then he moved it over a bit---after over a year and a half, I finally got tired of the silent reminder and started commenting on it---then it finally got installed! So don't hold your breath about those things.
I decided to go ahead and get rid of all the paperwork from my Mom's will and selling of the house. They told me I didn't need to keep any of that after we finalized it---so that all got shredded or trashed--the only thing I saved was one copy of the death certificate in case I needed that. I cleaned out the file box that was hers---now I have some file folders to donate and the box as well---which cleaned up a spot in that spare room.
Dh has his cyst removed today so I do have time this morning to tackle another spot in there today.

Thanks! I went to my PCP today and she ordered xrays, 5 days of prednisone and physical therapy for now. I go back in 3 weeks and re-evaluate and go from there. She didn't want to just jump to mri without following these steps first. Hopefully PT will work for me.

I did manage to tidy up my desk a bit, took care of some paperwork and bills. I do have 2 large garbage bags of clothes and things for Goodwill along with a large bin for my neighbor to look through sitting in my living room. I'm in no hurry to get it out. It'll happen sometime. If Hubby trips over it enough, he'll get it out. emoticon

I did tackle a small section in the spare room the other day and started a donation bag. Need to go back in there and pick another area and get some more done in there. Dh's next appointment is today and it is late in the day so no excuses! LOL

I haven't been doing much of anything. I did something to my back and it is so painful. Pinched nerve or something. I spent Sat afternoon in the ER hoping for some relief. They gave me a shot for pain, and muscle relaxers and sent me on my way. It has gotten steadily worse every day. I went to the chiropractor Mon and today and after tomorrow if I still don't show any improvement he will confer with my primary care dr to see about an mri. Possible herniated disc. So the only decluttering I've been able to do is my email inbox.

Clutter Free Academy is a facebook group that goes along with Kathi Lipp's decluttering style and her book "Clutter Free". It is very supportive and people are always posting before and after photos. Kathi posts video lessons a couple times a month and her moderator Tonya is on a lot.

I did get the kitchen counter cleaned. Now I actually have room to make dishes and prepare food there.
Hoping we head to the wound center today or at least tomorrow. Want to tackle at least one area in the spare room today if we don't go there.

Lecates, how is your husband?
Tina, tell me more about Clutterfree Academy!

I finished the 2nd chair and second pillow on Friday evening.
Saturday was a party for my new Marine son. He leaves for NC Monday evening. Now the house is clean, so that's one thing off my list for a while.

My first Marine son had his gall bladder removed on Friday and is doing well.

And The Littles are home from vacation so I will be babysitting again this week.

My main focus, after saying goodbye to my 19 yr old, will be to prepare my Homeschool Notifications for my youngest four children this year. My 17, 16, 14 and 13 yr olds.

I've been really improving in some self-control/ good habits lately, one being going to bed much earlier than normal, so off I go!
Goodnight!

Great to find motivational groups.
I did donate some books so they are gone. Dh is home from the hospital so I need to declutter the kitchen counters and give them a good scrubbing down.

Today I'm going to spend 15 minutes in each of these rooms: living room, bathroom, office area and kitchen. That should give me enough time to make a serious dent and tidy up the spaces. I'm in a FB group called Clutter Free Academy and Clutter Free 4 Life and we have daily missions. I'm just getting back into it so I'm going to finish out the week and catch up on all the areas so we have a fresh start for the weekend.

I am getting a slower start than I'd hoped. Going to get some laundry going before I head to the pool at noon. Then more laundry maybe and sorting when I get back. I culled a bit of junk mail and extraneous papers this morning while having breakfast. Will give the house a once-over today so I can have a comfy, relaxing weekend.

My dh was admitted to the hospital yesterday--so I think I will take some of the books I have to donate there for their free book pile

Today I'm going to work in my bedroom. I already got all the laundry off the floor and going in the machines. Time to get the Goodwill box out of there and at least in the loft ready to go down. Hopefully we'll make it there this weekend.

Hoping to have time to do something today---but most of the day is going to be at the doctor or the hospital with dh.

Having a good day so far. Got a good workout in by 8am and a healthy breakfast and working on a Bible Study. One of my daughters wanted me to take her to a nearby lake/park so she could snap some pictures yesterday and I wasn't in the mood. We stayed home and scraped the house. But today, I'm willing to take her.

And I'll probably work on the second chair today.

What fun would it be to let others make your decisions on how your house looks. And they miss out on the fun of finding just the right thing by chance.
I think we all live different lifestyles, plus our lives are all constantly changing. I know I am thinking ahead to the time when I retire---and know I don't want to just sit at home.

Wow, thanks for the Walmart tip. Crazy that we are living in a time that we NEED the advice. :(

Well, yesterday I completed one chair, plus one pillow out of the extra fabric. It looks very nice. (yes, Lecates, thank you for the 'decision making back-up'. haha ) One of these days I'll upload before and after photos.
Today I moved two armchairs, that happen to be out on the enclosed front porch, to the far end, side-by-side, but facing the full length of the porch...like how a porch swing is usually positioned. One is a rocker. If I had both of those draped in chair covers it would be ALMOST perfect. (my goal is a wicker porch swing, though). Having the chairs positioned that way creates some privacy. My back is to the neighbor's house, which has windows facing my porch and where they watch tv, so they're constantly facing my direction...hmph.

I'm going kind of off topic for the rest of this post:
It is interesting to me to think how much of my life is simply concentrated in 'getting things set up'. If I was wealthy and could have the perfect house, or could pay someone ELSE to do all the remodeling and decorating, I would have so much free time. I often wonder what every one else does with their time, if they are not needed at home.
Funny...while parents look forward to the Fall so they can get rid of their children for 6 hrs plus a day, MY Fall just gets more complicated and full. (because I home-school)
Or, while many parents are experiencing Empty Nest Syndrome, I am right in the middle of busy motherhood. No cruises or sports cars or trips to Europe, or gym memberships. Just enjoying the love, laughter and work around me right here at home.

I love my life just how it is, but I always have to keep in mind how very, very different it is from many other people in my age group (early 50's- ! oh my word that looks so weird to write! haha! )

Tina, I feel the same way about my middle son's gf---I wouldn't want her to take care of me as she is just rude and unkind towards me. But my youngest son's gf appears to just be the sweetest thing so there is hope for me. You probably won't know what the 10th grader will need until he starts school. As long as he has paper, pen, and pencils to start, he will be okay the first day.
On those shootings, be aware of your surroundings. Having worked at Walmart and a few other places, the safest place to head is those swinging doors to the back rooms of the stores---lots of places to hide.
HOpe you get that bill straightened out. It is ridiculous what doctors charge.

SUSANSKI ó emoticon . Having your son back home will be wonderful!

I plan to make a phone call to the ophthalmologist this morning to clarify that I did indeed get a 30% self pay discount. It seems I paid full price from the look of the itemized bill sent via snail mail.

I want to get moving on placing an order for homeschool books and supplies. In order to do that I need to actually take the time today to sit down and think about what classes my daughters will take this year. D15 will be in 10th and D12 will be in 7th. Since homeschool assessments are now done I will have the girls decide what papers to toss and then I'll box up the work from last year that they choose to keep.

LECATES - your are right. We wouldn't have moved if she wasn't willing to follow us. My BIL lives in CA with his wife and son and his wife isn't the friendliest person to my MIL (downright rude and mean sometimes) so that was not an option for her. Plus the expense of CA wouldn't have worked for her to be independent. We always said we would like her with us and she found a lovely retirement village with independent living apartments here. Hubby moved down last March, the kids and I followed in early June after school was out, and she came down in Aug.
Susan- How wonderful for your son's accomplishment! I bet you are one proud mama. And how nice to have to have your boys close to home for a little while at least.

We missed church this morning, but we can watch a replay online later today. Hubby had to go into work and I missed my alarm. We'll just enjoy our lazy morning. I need to sort the school supplies to make sure we have everything on our lists. I have a bin in the garage with overflow supplies from previous years plus what we bought yesterday. We won't find out what my sophomore son needs until we go to open house. School starts Aug 26. Today I'm going to work on my desk and my planner, logging what I have finished the past couple of days and reconciling my calendar and budget.

Tina, isn't she why you guys decided to make the move along with the job offer? So sorry to hear that she fell but so glad she had that alert button and could call for help and that they could call you to your dh could rush over. How scary for her!
Susan, I bet he looked so handsome. Yes, too many young men are not in good enough shape to go into the service---too much TV and gaming. Woohoo to finding that fabric and purchasing it. I am sure you will figure it out. Aren't you glad I made up your mind? LOL Glad you got to go out for your anniversary. We often do it a day or so before or after according to when it is.
My son came over with his gf and her son---and went down to the basement and got the 2 bins of micromachines he had down there plus the bin of of matchbox cars and took them home with him for the boy to play with at his house---I am not sure who was more excited by the toys---the boy or my 29 year old son---heehee! So that clutter is now gone from my house.

Aw, sorry to hear about your mum-in-law! My mom had a hip replacement years ago. Took awhile to heal, but it did.

Lecates, My oldest son IS a Reservist, stationed here in Ohio, and was given the opportunity to
serve full-time in Georgia to help straighten a mess down there. I think this month completes two years down there. So he is just returning to his original situation. He is definitely ready to come back. Which is always good for these mom's ears to hear. lol

My 19 yr old son returned from Boot Camp today! He had his dress blues on and looked so handsome! He did very well and seemed to find the physical aspect rather easy. Even The Crucible. The hard part was lack of sleep.
He showed a graduating class picture and it was pretty crazy to hear him point out all the guys that had to drop out. BEFORE the picture was taken tens of young men had ALREADY dropped out. Then probably ten more in the photo dropped out before completing. And maybe another ten or so were REPEATS...those who had failed the first or second time and were re-doing training.
When I heard that, it made me appreciate my son's success even more!

I wonder if his stories are scaring my 22 yr old who leaves for Boot Camp in October, lol.

So hey, Hubby and I went out last night to celebrate our anniversary (which is actually today), and we traveled north to visit Hobby Lobby. I found blue and white material for those chairs I want to do! So I'll be working on those over the next few days. Hopefully, I learn how to do it.

Wow Susan! You do have a packed calendar.

I wasn't able to make it to the consignment shop or Goodwill yet. My youngest son had a dog walking job last week and needed my help and then my MIL fell and broke her hip and femur Wed night. She has a life alert type alarm and they called me about 11:30 pm saying an ambulance was on the way. Hubby went to be with her. She had surgery Thursday night around 9pm and she's on the mend. It will be slow going for a long while, but she has a lot of help.

Tomorrow is church and working around the house. Get the kitchen back in shape and work on laundry and my bedroom.

Quite the busy month ahead. Glad they figured out what is wrong with your son and it will be taken care of. Is he bummed that he has to go into the reserves or is this just until he heals completely from the surgery?
I did empty the suitcases and got all the laundry done---but think I was just tired from all the driving on Wednesday so didn't get around to putting the extra stuff away yet. That is on the agenda today as well as a shopping trip for groceries and getting the new daylilies planted---I think I know where I want them so that is half the battle.

Thanks! That was so nice to have the decision made!

Today my four youngest kids (17, 16, 14, and 13) worked on scraping the paint off one section of the house. Then hubby came home and worked around the outside of the new kitchen windows.

This month is packed with interesting things for my family.
Saturday is our 28th wedding anniversary.
Friday our 19 yr old son has his Marine Graduation Ceremony and should be home on Saturday evening.
Our 22 yr old, their friend and their cousin all drove down to SC to watch the ceremony and bring him back home. Please pray for travel safety...this is their first road trip! From Ohio to SC. Eeek.

The new marine will be home for 25 days, instead of the usual 10, since he agreed to be Recruiter's Assistant while home.

Two of my sons are going camping next weekend. And my daughter is going on a road trip to southern Ohio for an event.
We are planning a high-school graduation / Welcome Home/ Congrats party in a couple weeks.
Then, our oldest will be 26 this month. He is serving in Georgia. He's been sick this week and has been at the doctor's, the hospital or the ER each day this past week for all kinds of testing. Turns out he needs his gall bladder out. So that's scheduled for the end of next week. After he heals from that, he can drive back to OH and return to the Reserves, instead of the full time he's been serving for a couple of years.

I'm on vacation from babysitting for about 12 days. Hope the weather holds so we can get the house worked on while we have free time.

(Then of course, Kenny Roger's b-day is on the 21st.....)

Phew! I'd better stay on my toes this month!
but first stop....the Steak House for our anniversary. haha
