BOY, was I tired after five hours at the greenhouses. But later on I got up and cleared off the dining room table. Put things away in the spare room. At least I got something done.

Had a really quiet day at home. After taking one son to work then a daughter to the store, I came home and 'relaxed' in the peace. Hubby had to go to work, all my daughters were away, all sons but one were away.
The son that stayed home, wanted to walk to the gas station for a drink. Instead of giving him permission, I asked to WALK WITH HIM. So I got my walking in today. That's my 3rd day in a row of purposely walking somewhere.
Kinda proud of that.

Then I got on my emails and my spark and in between I got up and did chores.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Today, I vacuumed the Genie Room and made a permanent place for my rebounder...out and ready to use at any given moment.

The girls and I went to the local used book store and made it sparky by WALKING there.
We bought five books; theirs were two Little House on the Prairie books to add to their collection. And MINE is Northanger Abby by Jane Austen, which I've read before, but had not owned.

And btw, I DID discover reading books on my new smart phone. That was cool.
I was wondering how it felt to have the PHONE slam in my face as I dozed off prematurely, compared to the actual BOOK.
Answer: they both rather hurt and startle.

Today I got my piles of pictures on the floor sorted into the right direction and put them in their general boxes. Now I just have to vacuum!
Though it was still crowded, I was able to sit at the desk and write a notecard to my mom's best friend.

I'm going to double my money, by WALKING to the post office to mail it, instead of simply sticking it in MINE.
:) I'm tricking myself into walking. ha ha.

So, I'd say this is a very productive day.

I'm so thrilled. My mom had this really pretty ornate frame which she had attached to a wooden frame and put a painting in. I had never particularly like the painting. And I didn't like how the frame was doubled up with two contrasting styles.
Anyway, today, we were able to pull it apart, discard the wooden frame and keep the ornate one.

Then we glued a cork board into it, so now we have a large 2ft x 21/2 ft? bulletin board that is actually beautiful!

yea us!

Lecates, I know there are some things they won't want, but I keep the homeschooling things for more than simply nostalgia. I keep them for legal reasons, for evidence of work and for analyzing how the kids have learned or not learned which gives me an idea for future curriculum. And it's confined to one drawer for each child.
On the other hand, they have enjoyed looking over their old stories and drawings and reminiscing. It is a reminder of how far they've come.

I'm bummed that my own mother threw my own things away. I was hoping I'd come across some things among her stuff, but have only found one report card. :(

IT'S COLD today! Saturday was so hot I was dreading the summer's heat. But I did manage to get a walk done...shivering the whole way.

The plan is to go through all my seasonal clothes and really take a good, hard look at what I want to keep or sell (or donate). With the big move looming, I really want to limit my stuff. Plus, we are moving south so I won't need as many cold weather items. Still keeping some, but limiting the overall abundance. I'll need the kids to go through all their stuff and sort the stuff that is too small. I can then make a trip to the consignment shop later this week.

Just know they won't want that stuff later. Bet if you asked son he wouldn't want it. The envelopes make sense for saving the stuff.

Lecates, as a home-educating family we choose to do portfolios (samples of their work throughout the year). This also includes my Mother's Report on my child's progress which shows strengths and weaknesses. It also has their special stories and art. Fun to keep for later browsing.

I have a Library sized file cabinet that is nice and deep and each child has their own drawer. I keep all important papers and records in their own drawers, including a few keepsakes.

Normally their portfolios stay in a binder and I buy new ones each year (my preferred method), but when Hubby was off work for his back, he had me reuse the binders and put everything in manila envelopes.
My oldest had already graduated before that and I put his off, so still have the binders.
That's on my list now!

You are inspiring me to tackle my desk! The top of the armoire has been cleared for the most part, but everything else gets shoved onto the desktop that can be hidden away if anyone needs to come over. Lots of paperwork, thankfully most of the things we are needing right now are all dealt with electronically. A few things to print and fax, but I could scan a couple and attach to an email. I do have a POA coming from the lawyer that I will need to print, sign and have notarized so hubby can sign for me down there. I got the homeowners insurance all lined up and they will get in touch with the mortgage company to hash out their details.

I still need to tackle the garage before it gets too much closer to moving day. My time has been filled with a sick kiddo and dealing with in inundation of emails. And lots of laundry. Hubby is driving home tomorrow night so we will see him for a bit this weekend. He should arrive about 10 pm Friday and leave again after church on Sunday. It's a long way to drive, but so worth it.

I better get to work! I can at least make a dent on this desk right in front of me. emoticon

Nothing here at home but went by my mom's house and cleared out the desk. Most are old taxes so they will be shredded. But did find some old interesting pictures.
Congrats on the house selling and the upcoming move.
Lol to the box not being anything you have to deal with at the moment. Don't know why you are saving so much school work.

Littleguysmom, I don't think I knew you were in Ohio. So am I.
Well....goodbye! laugh out loud.

emoticon

No, seriously, things do sound like they are going good for you! yea!

Today, I went halfway through another box of pictures. I found some doubles and threw the extra ones away after tearing them in half so they don't make their way back in the box!

I was determined to get to my desk, but there were two or three huge boxes stacked in front of it with smaller boxes of organized photos all around them.

After walking out of the room a few times trying to get distracted by something else (lol), I finally decided...NO...just DO something to get those out of your hair!

Well, I began going through it. The first thing was something of S.L.24. (Son, name, age).
The NEXT thing belonged to S.L.24. And the NEXT thing belonged to S.L.24.
Then I got suspicious when I saw several black binders, one with his photo in the front plastic pocket.
I realized these were his Assessment books from his school years.
The whole box was full of HIS things, not my mom's, not my own!
WHICH MEANT I DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT HUMONGOUS BOX I WAS DREADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!

Woo hoo!
(I've been dreading it for awhile, so this is another case of my procrastination making my life miserable.)

All school things go in each child's large file cabinet drawer. I do want to condense his binders into manila envelopes so they fit better, but THAT is a completely DIFFERENT project!

So...I was able to reach the desk again and managed to clear off a few things. It's not usable at this moment, but it now has 'soon' potential.

We are in the process of selling our house here in OH and moving to NC so there's lots going on. We did all the initial decluttering and cleaning and the house sale is pending - just waiting on closing May 7. It's time to sort some more stuff in the garage. The movers are coming May 3-4 and we move into our new house in NC on the 11th, taking possession on May 9. The kids and I are still in OH until school gets out June 1, staying with my MIL once this sale is final. Hubby is already in NC staying in a work provided condo until he can move into the new house. Lots of paperwork! We are truly blessed that his new company is providing quite a nice relocation package.

So today-sort bins in garage, file paperwork, laundry.

oh wow! I got soooo much stuff out to the curb today. Well, I set it by the back door and the KIDS got it out to the curb. We ordered an extra trash pick up for tomorrow morning.
I got rid of an old lazy boy chair, a side table, a bunch of old broken toys from the boys younger years, some old clothes, and some more old wood from our living room floor.
One of the things I HADN'T wanted to get rid of was a 3-paneled screen with places for 12 or 15 8x10 photos. I had known that it had gotten cracked and needed to be viced and glued back together. I was planning on having the boys fix it for me. I was going to paint it and then place some old black and white family photos in it.
Turns out just ONE piece was missing at the top. I had no clue where it was, so I got brave and sent it out the door. :(

(I bet I find that 'piece', tomorrow as the trash truck leaves my house....)

i'M NOT worried about the pile---it has places in there---just didn't have the energy to put them away right then---once I plan on buying the bed, I will put them away if I haven't done it before then.
Service went well---the church was full---glad it is over.

Lecates, let me warn you.
I had put my stuff into a basket, too. Until I could get to it.
I did not get to it, so that basket was removed to another room-out of sight.
It is still there about 9 months later! And I'm beginning to lose track of how I wanted them organized.

I'm slowly getting caught up separating all mom's photos into groups:
our family, paternal side, maternal side and friends, and photos of my parents and siblings in their youth.
My 'goal' is to get them all scanned safely so they are available to who ever wants copies.
It's a very slow job.

I suggest you focus on it as soon as possible before you begin 'forgetting' about them.

On Tuesday, my sisters and I will go to the cemetery and put Dad's urn in with Mom in her plot. Not sure if this is going to end up to be an emotional day or not!

Agree---no need to have to go back---wish I knew how to do more on the computer like that.
I had put things from the dining room table in a basket so we could work on the photo montage for the funeral service. So last night I tackled that basket and dealt with the things that were there. Some just went into a pile in the spare room where I need to put it away, but at least it is not on the dining room table anymore.
I will be glad when the Memorial Service is over with. Then we have to figure out the best time to go deal with the will since the death certificates have finally arrived---but of course now I have the cataract surgery on Tuesday and check on Wednesday---wish I knew the time for the check as then I could make plans to do it on Wednesday while I am already off.

Smartphone: I didn't want it either. But Hubby says the flip phones are getting phased out. boo hoo. (Alllllllll I want is something S.I.M.P.L.E. chuckle.

About the photos: Yeahhhh, I decided to scan a bunch of pictures and file them under the person's name, so that we can find the important ones easily and use them for ....future....'events'. Sounds nasty, I know. But if you're scanning anyway, you might as well organize some!

Today getting ready for the Memorial Service tomorrow--niece is coming over to work on the photo montage. I need to get the table cleared off so we have space to work.

I went through a bunch of boxes of pictures, some family, some local history stuff. I placed all the history stuff together in one box and sorted the pics into the different main branches of our family. The floors still a bit messy, but at least "I" know that something got organized, even if the other members can't tell. lol

Today I was 'forced' to get a smart phone. uh ohhhhh. I am NO good with this kind of stuff. I imagine I will hate this phone for at least a year.
Hopefully, we can find a sound setting that I can hear for my calls and texts. I find these phones very hard to hear on.
The whole family is trying not to grin behind my back as I face this dilemma. But they are all troopers, every one is offering to help me figure the stupid thing out. lol

I'm laughing because my mom could never handle a VCR without panicking. She was constantly pressing the wrong buttons, recording over things we didn't want erased, etc. We would all sit back and laugh.

Now it's my turn.

I did organize coffee table-- some to trash, some to recycle, some to neat piles. Then this morning I pulled weeds and cleaned up some flower beds before we went to Sam's Club.

Lecates, she is just a terrible procrastinator. She got it done, though not as well done as I would have.

I ditched those old magazines. I'm still feeling mildly guilty. But I know I'll forget about them, as he has.

Well, I suppose that's true. But scanners aren't very expensive these days!

Right now DD the Younger has a mess strewn over three rooms, and I am trying not to hyperventilate. She's leaving tomorrow, though, so it has to be cleaned up. I've told her that anything that isn't properly stored by then will be thrown out, and she knows to believe me!

Also, the scanner is your friend! If you scan in any actual articles that interest you and save them on the computer, you have a much higher chance of ever seeing them again than if they are just in a pile of magazines. And then you can dispose of the print version!

Magazines are packed with ads. There are a few that I love to read their inspirational articles. Others I have subscribed to are interesting but I thumb thru and pass onto others or recycle.

Gini, just throw them away or take them to a recycling bin. Honestly, men! I just went thru a pile of mine and filled a bag to be taken to recycling center---for some reason my mom decided I needed a TV Guide magazine and People magazine---I utterly loth the people one and not fit to be taken to school for the kids to cut up so it goes to recycling. I will be glad when it ends---thankfully I think she did it for 6 months.
We got a new computer and I had to clean my desk---did get stuff shredded including old canceled checks of my mom that I had brought home to shred. Betting there is more in the desk at my mom's that we didn't go thru yet.

Tina, I have gotten out of the magazine habit. I found that mostly they just made me discontent with the life I have--after all, they are all about selling you something new! When I feel like getting inspired (or depressed!) now, I go onto Pinterest.

I'm having a moral dilemma. In reorganizing DD's storage shelves, I stumbled upon a pile of old magazines that belong to DH. He hasn't seen them in YEARS, but at one point he insisted that they were very dear to him. If I throw them out, he will never miss them. If I point them out, he might eventually let me toss them, but it would be WRENCHING to him. I can't decide if I should just be sneaky or if I should live with the consequences....

We had boxes like that stored at my son's after we moved---well, actually stored there while I stored them there while we packed up more boxes. I think we had some there for 5 years. LOL
I did clean part of my desk yesterday, but then we went shopping for a new couch. Can't wait until it is delivered!

When we moved four years ago, I tossed or donated many items. Still need to systematically go through boxes we moved but did not immediately need. Seeing posts reminded me of those in our second garage—out of sight, out of mind. Will start on these next week.
