I used a $5.00 of $25 coupon at Dollar General this week, then used a Visa gift card that I had won as a door prize awhile back. So $32 worth of purchases only cost me $2.00. That felt good!!!!

Talked my husband into using the credit card to purchase $2700+ of fertilizer for fields. Which equates to bonus $$ on our rewards card!! I'm finally getting through to him that credit cards are not bad if you use them correctly - and make them work FOR you!! (And I've already paid off the credit card for that expense.)

Talk about cheapskate.... Today I made hot dogs and mac-n-cheese!!!!! emoticon

Well, what am I supposed to do? My housemates and I get together once a week to order our groceries... Well, one of them thinks she is the food gestapo and will only "allow" a little of what I need. Well, no ingredients...no dinner.

So, you wonder why I do pantry challenges? So I can have some ingredients!!!!!

I feel soda, tea, milk jugs extra half full with water and freeze. The freezer doesn't have a lot of empty space to cool and whenever we want some ice water we just pull it out and add some water. Wa la cold water for drinking. My kids and husband take them to the park or track to drink while playing ball or running. I take it outside when we are doing yard work. Its cheap and healthy.

I bought 12 jelly jars at a yard sale! I looked on Pinterest for things to do with them and found a recipe for "Coffee Lotion"... I think it is such a good idea because how often do you walk inside a store and find "Coffee Lotion"?

I do not know whether to make as little Christmas gifts or to sell. What do you think?

Well, I went yard saleing and bought a fitness pedal exerciser:

and a bar stool:

The fitness pedal exerciser was never-used but the bar stool is a little rugged. What on earth am I do to with the bar stool? I couldn't pass it up for a $1.00! Would it make a good reading chair?

I bought coffee at Dollar Tree...I was bummed though because they were out of French Vanilla. Then, I also bought there a few headbands, a new coffee travel mug for my iced coffee and a pair of sunglasses. I normally don't wear sunglasses, but they were sooooo cute. I love the Sun, in my eyes and all!

Today, I chopped up 3 bags of onion for crockpot french onion soup this morning. Yum... BUT, it takes atleast 7 hours to crock! Atleast I didn't let the onions rot in the fridge like my housemates would have done. One of the housemates hates onions and the other doesn't want soup. So, fine with me to have it all! Storage containers and I am set for a few days!

Be good!

This past week when I went to Dollar Tree, I bought 7 tubes of toothpaste for $2.00 using coupons! I am not sure if I should use them myself or save for toiletry crafts. What do you think I should do?

My housemate agreed to have leftovers from yesteday today...pasta salad and Cincinnati chili...a luxury in this house.

I need to weed through my coupon binder as alot of the coupons expire today. I will give them to the Overseas Coupon Program.

I got my cleaning in today, taking a break from work and making it a Sparkpeople day! emoticon

Have a good one! There is not very much vitamin D here today. I am dreaming of sunny days filled with yard sales soon!

Well, I submitted an article on modesty and took it to heart. The research said "not to make your brother stumble". Meaning, don't dress to make a man lust after you. So...

I went to the Salvation Army today and bought a couple more long skirts and tops, a modest romper, some cookbooks and a religious book.

Not too shabby, huh?

Someone on my Affordable Vegan, Vegetarian and Flexitarian team posted a recipe idea for making nondairy milk (substitute) from oatmeal. While it doesn't have calcium it is good for cooking and was easily prepared. It does have a mild oatmeal taste but not unpleasant. My grandson was constipated and I gave it to him to drink and it worked liked a charm. I'm going to try making rice milk next, it will probably be cheaper.

The strained oatmeal was used in my pancake batter. No waste.

I made pumpkin pies with cornstarch instead of eggs. The result was more pudding like but tasty. I saved money and cholesterol. Not sure about the calories.

I've been eating a few Tbsp of black beans on 1/2 pita bread for breakfast every day. Pennies per serving and very tasty! It's just bulky enough to keep me going till lunch time, with the aid of a few cups of milky coffee.

I made chickpea cakes that tasted like fish cakes. Chickpeas are much cheaper than crab or salmon.

I burned my dinner rolls so I sliced off the top and bottoms and toasted the rounds in an iron skillet. They were great with soup.

I transferred 2 prescriptions to Kmart and got $50 in gift cards. Today, Kmart was doubling coupons up to $1. So I went shopping and got stuff that I needed that was on sale, used the coupons and the gift cards. All total was a savings of $53.00 in just one trip.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I never heard about the savings catcher, thanks!

Yesterday I started a new batch of homemade vanilla extract. It takes a few months to be ready but it is worth it.

I use Walmarts savings catcher....you enter any walmart receipt within the past 7 days and they automatically search to see if any prices are lower elsewhere and give you back the savings....you can save it and get a gift card, etc later on. I plan to save all year next year and get my Christmas with it. I already have $24 saved.

Some of my seedlings are now big enough to plant outside, so I will be growing some of my own veggies & herbs. Including catnip for the cats emoticon emoticon

Now that the weather is generally nice (no rain) I can put my clothes outside on the deck to dry (normally I set up the drying rack in the dining room when the weather does not cooperate) instead of using the dryer.

Thursday I repaired a cat toy by sewing up the seam that had pulled out. This weekend I will try to repair my purse, the button holding the inside section closed had ripped out of the material.

And I am going to try making my own mouthwash too, instead of buying another bottle from the store. If it works out that is one more thing I can eliminate from my grocery purchases and that contributes to better health (eliminating all the chemicals).

Hello!
I made my own body scrub this week! I needed to exfoliate and instead of purchasing the $7 sugar scrub I usually do, I found a recipe on pinterest that I could make with what I had at home! (coconut oil, brown sugar, vanilla). Very happy with the results--and it didn't make my tub slick like the commercial products.

I bought baking soda and I am using it for an antacid. I am going to use it for a week or two and see if it helps. The baking soda cost 89 cents versus what I would have paid for Prilosec.

www.irs.gov has step by step instruction booklets online that makes it very easy to do. All the forms, schedules, and publications needed are right there too.

My electric company has several programs that will help you with your bill if you are eligible. I went to the my state representatives' office and they helped me fill out the app and they faxed it for me. I thought it was worth a try and it will certainly save me some money.

My thrifty thing this week: I saved the top off of my salt box, cut it to fit a canning jar, (cover with fabric or vinyl, or paint with chalkboard paint) I am using the fabric this time. and using it for my sugar jar by the coffee pot!! I have a little pour spout, now. These can be put on any jar with a band. I am going to use one for rice, one for creamer, etc. This is great!!

I am going to the bank to get my free calendar. Every year they give out a really nice calendar. I am going to get two, one for my daily schedule and one to hang on the fridge.

Last week I went to the grocery store and the pharmacist gave me a spoon to measure my grandsons' cough medicine. They sell then at CVS and they cost $3.00. It is easier to read then the measuring cup that comes with his cough syrup.

I park in the free lot instead of the paid parking lot or the street (those are paid spots too) which is only a little bit further away from the town center where the stores are and walk the distance, whenever I go to the town. I get some extra walking and save a few bucks.

Whenever I have to drive anywhere, I take the time before I leave to plan my route. I do a big circle to get in everywhere I have to go. It definitely saves on gas, wear and tear on the car, and time.

I'm like you, EMTSTYLIST. I spend about 30-45 minutes on Sunday morning to cut coupons and write down all the sales that I want to hit. I take my coupons and lists and put them in a folder. (the coupons go in a zippered pencil case). I am on all of the local stores savings plans. I hit it big yesterday at Rite Aid Drugstore. It had a lot of things on sale at buy one/get one free plus a $10 off coupon if I spent $50.00. My total savings was $60,34.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I am totally taking advantage of the before Christmas sales with combining of coupons, sale prices, and reward points. My favorites for this are Kohls, Carsons, JCPenneys, and Walgreens. Because they all offer coupons, discounts, rewards dollars, and have sales pretty regularly. Carsons is the only one who limits coupon combining. Just need to make sure items are not Bonus Buys, incredible values, or clearance.

Stopped at a St. Vinney's "Dig N' Save" yesterday, where you pay for clothes/textiles by the pound. Got handmade mittens (recycled from old sweaters - so cute) , a shower curtain, a velvet shrug, a candle and a cute purple T-shirt for $5.38. I could not have bought any of these items new for $5.38...so excited!

My house insurance recently incresed by $300 per year. My agent said it is the rise in replacement costs that are initiating the premium increase. I was able to increase my deductible from $500 to $1,000 which lowered my annual premium by $150 so that decreased the new increase in half. emoticon

I actually did this a few weeks ago. I took my daughter's old suitcase with the broken zipper, removed the top, stuffed it with old pillows/shams from a bedding set no longer used and made a cat bed. My cats will get a lot of use from it this winter when they sleep in front of the heater. I posted a team photo of the bed and one of my cats giving it a test nap.

Kitty,

That sounds wonderful! I have lavender but never thought of doing anything else with it!

This weekend I plan to make some "gourmet" items - lavender sugar, garlic & rosemary flavored olive oil, chile oil, spice rubs, etc.

I have all the herbs and the lavender from my pots and the oil & sugar already in the pantry. The bottle of garlic/rosemary flavored oil would have cost me about $7 in the store today, with the chili oil about the same.

Cheryln, that is a great idea! We have brought our crockpot with us when traveling and put items in before we leave the hotel for the day. When we return, we have a warm meal waiting!

We are vacationing and bought sandwich fixings for lunch and cold cereal and fruit for breakfast. We figure we are saving a good $40 more a day

I thought maybe we could inspire and help each other with our thriftiness! emoticon

It could be some way you saved money, how you repurposed something, or how you made "do" to meet a need. Let's post our thrifty ideas! emoticon

For me, my ds is on a special diet and it isn't cheap! I was able to get Mom's Best additive-free cereal at $1.99/box plus use a $.75 coupon--on each of 5 (!) boxes!! yay!!
