It's in Michaux State Forest, probably my favorite spot in the world just because I'm so familiar with it. You bring up a good point... possibly an old lightning strike? There's no evidence of fire anywhere around it, but if it took a direct hit torching the one tree and the rain puts it out before it spreads? The area around it shows no sign of recent fire but a lot of windfalls:

Nice tall tree. Almost looks like it had been burnt. Pretty area!

We were in the woods today and I thought this would fit here. An old snag whose trunk is well bleached but the limbs have gone dark brown. I would guess about sixty feet:

I was shown one that was 28 years old and it was about a foot tall so I can believe that.

@MAUITN - I've read that they are some of the biggest and oldest plants on earth. Good shot!

I love tree shapes too. Even trees during the winter with no leaves. Nice photos!

I am fascinated with tree shapes. Love the pictures so far!

I think we planted this Pine Tree as kids 40 odd years ago. It stood at the corner of our woodshed which was taken down 25 years ago.

Photo taken in spring I have photographed this tree since it was small.

My favorite Maple Tree in fall. It sits in the middle of a hay field off the highway.

Willow Tree at the park.

Thanks Darlene. That was taken at a lake not far from us. Most of the trees there are interesting.

Love all the tree pictures - I think the tree is one of God's most grand creations!!
Such variety and colors and shapes - and green is my favorite color.

This was taken last winter - a tall, stately tree across the street. Love it - such a beautiful tree!

This is the tree shape after a Derecho wind occurred in the neighborhood. It came and went SO fast! It happened in 2012 but we remember it every time we drive by this yard.

From Wikipedia:"A derecho , from Spanish: derecho [, "straight") is a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm that is associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms known as a mesoscale convective system. Derechos can cause hurricane-force winds, tornadoes, heavy rains, and flash floods."

Just have to post this picture - it was in the front yard of the place my sister, Linda, lived in Brookings, OR a few years ago. We call it "Linda's Tree".

Sometimes you don't notice the trees when you're looking at something else... and yet, there they are.

TO PARTICIPATE IN ASSIGNMENTS
All Entries Must be your Original Work.
Please try to get out and take new photographs.
But older ones are okay too rather than not post.

There are TWO ways you can share a photo.
You can do which ever one works the best for you.
Or you can do “both ways”!!
-----------------------------
1) To post a photo on the team Forum………
In the assignment where you want to share your photo Click on “Reply” to leave a message if you want.
Then look just above this box for tabs and there is one for “Add An Image”, Click on the tab,
Click on “Browse” to find the photo on your computer, select an image,
Click on “Upload Now”. This will add the photo to your message once you click “Post Message”.

2) To post a link to your photo…….
You must first upload to a photo-sharing site. (We like Flickr, which is free to join and because we can comment on each others photos.
But another site will work also.
- Select the image on your photo sharing site.
- Click on it so it is the main photo on the page.
- Copy the url (web address) of the photo.
- Go back to Sparkpeople.com,
- Find the thread for the assignment in the General Team Discussion Forum.
- Click on Reply
- Click on the tab " ADD A LINK" and paste the url in the box.
- Click on "Add a Link" again and it will now show in the comment box.
