Good morning everyone

Sorry I have been away for a while. It has been a busy month I am in the process of changeing jobs working overtime, and babysitting on my days off.

Calger it sounds like you are doing great, keep it up.

mslynnwood Welcome I know what you mean consistency is a hard thing for me too and I have been doing this for over a year, I get into a pattern then my schedule at work changes meaning everything gets all messed up. But hang in there it will come with time.

Cathie, floatyrose, and donna hang in there it will all come with time. Just keep trying for consistency.

Bree just remember the scale is not everything. If your close is fitting better then you are doing something right. There are alot of other ways to know too, for instance when you have your next checkup they may be able to tell too.

Mary thanks for keeping everyone motivated. You are doing an awesome job keep up the great work.

First find a good scale, then only use that scale. Then weigh yourself at the same time. For me it is first thing in the morning.
And, remember that fat weighs less than muscle. If you building muscle you may lose inches that you don't see on the scale

I am coming up on a month of doing SP. I was so proud of myself when I lost 10 lbs in like 2 1/2 weeks. However, my scale I have doesn't seems to be working properly. I have weighed at my mother's and it shows a higher number than what mine did when I started, but I've noticed when I weigh there on weekends, I am progressively loosing. The scale I have here at home jumps around alot. Such as, I will weigh and then weigh again within a min and there is a significant difference - like anywhere from 5-10 pounds difference. It's kinda discouraging that I see a difference in how my clothes fit, and I seem to be loosing inches, but alas, no weight loss. Any suggestions?

Don't let that little set back get you down. We all do it. The important thing is that you try again. Everyone has a little slump or spends some time going off track. If this was easy we wouldn't need all the extra support and everyone would be thin.

Hi eveyrone. I had lost a few pounds some weeks ago and I felt great!! But then birthday parties and social gatherings occurred and I got way off track! No excuses I know. I am so upset that I did it because we all know that even 2 weeks of doing well can be blown just within a matter of one bad weekend. Ok enough of the pity party. I have to do better. Gotta work out and stop eating so much! I love SP but I wish I had someone local here with me to see and talk to each day. Nonetheless.... I'm grateful to at least have these forums. emoticon

12 glasses h2o
30+min exercise
less than 1400 cals

TEETHOMAS, You will be just amazed at how much more energy you have if you exercise just a little. I started exercising B4 work. Now I don't have that afternoon energy slump.. you know around 1pm when you can't stop yawning and can't believe the clock is going so slow. Now I hardly ever yawn.. I just don't get the slump. I would have never believed it is I didn't experience it for myself.

To "weigh in" look for the orange bar at the top of the screen where "MY TOOLS" is the box to the furthest left. Click on "START" and you will see on the left side 3 rectangular boxes. The bottom says "WEIGH-IN & other measurements" Click on that box and type in your weight an any other information you want to track.

emoticon All of you who are still sticking with the program after more than 2 or even 3 weeks!

I know it's challenging and sometimes you'll lag behind from where you think you should be but just remember that every step in the right direction gets you closer to your goals. I definitely can't claim perfection, but I'm finding the path is a little easier to find and hopefully someday it will be a really obvious and fun yellow brick road.

I hope you're all still enjoying your time here at SparkPeople and that you all learn ways to achieve your goals.

Back on track as of today. :)

Hi from BC, Canada
Lifestyle changes are a moment by moment issue. I have to do a lot of self talk. Talking myself out of that icecream bar, or that chocolate, or what ever it may be. I ask myself what would I rather have a few moments of satifaction which is fleeting or knowing that I am smaller, feel healthier and I don't ache as much. Whatever your reasons for losing weight. Every time I go to Tim Hortons I think about getting a cappuchino, but when I actually order I ask for a black coffee. It is getting easier to do that. I get scared of slipping back into those old routines. Hang in there you all and we will all get to our goals.

Gardening does count as exercise. If you browse through the different exercises to choose from in your fitness tracker you should find it. I push mowed my mom's lawn and I found it in there

Mmmm . . . Pizza and chocolate chip cookies! I ate terribly last week. I blamed it on the fact that my husband worked late every night so I didn't cook a healthy, family dinner. I know, I know, that doesn't account for the rest of my day though!

Does gardening (raking, picking up apples, weeding) and other such activities count as exercise? I sure hope so. I think I managed my regular little exercise routine just once or maybe twice this week.

So, my goals for the coming week are to get back to cooking some healthier meals and to get up early at least once or twice and ride my horse.

Donna, have a great trip and have lots of fun! Whew! I'm not alone in my inconsistency! I thought I was a rarity in this aspect and beat myself up continually. Today I didn't eat well, pizza & chocolate chip cookies, but weirdly I'm way under in my calories. I guess it's from not eating all day. Aagghhh....got to get this under control as I'm so tired of being on this teeter-totter! Coming here and reading the posts really help, so thank you so much ladies!

It was good to hear that others besides me are having a problem with being consistent. Each of you sound very determined to keep trying and that is encouraging to me. I don't know how I will do tomorrow because my hubby is taking me on a surprise mini trip to Newport News, we will be doing civil war history trails. Wish me luck and determination to keep on track with food. Donna

The important thing is that you keep starting over. Pretty soon, the changes that are new today will seem like an old habit. Some things just don't change overnight

So glad to hear that others have a consistency problem as well! I tell myself over and over that tomorrow is a new day and I can start again but it feels like I'm constantly starting over and never really getting anywhere. Too much coffee, just generally unhealthy eating (not junk or fast food but skipping meals & then making popcorn at 10:00 p.m. or having chips and salsa for dinner!), and not enough exercise get in my way.

And so here it is nearly 11:30 at night. Tomorrow's another day, right?

Welcome MSLYNNWOOD! I can totally relate to your not being consistent as that is me 100%. I always start out full steam ahead on Monday mornings, but by Wednesday night, I'm petering off by not eating until night, drinking too much coffee and not drinking water. Then to top it off, I stay on the computer too much and get tired then use that as an excuse not to exercise. Good for you in making a low cal dinner...that's a great start! Also, remember that each day is a new, fresh day to begin anew. Perseverance and patience will help get you more consistent...hmmmm....that's what I tell myself!

My first post to this forum. I know this spark team showed up automatically when I first joined but today is my first time posting here although I've joined other teams. The responses here are really great. I love the motivation and encouragement.
My biggest problem is being consistent. I can have a good day of eating, good day of working out then blow it. I have to also stop making excuses. I have a busy work life, daughter, nephews but it seems I make time for other things so I have to fit exercise somewhere! I'm learning. Food is my hardest... I really do love to eat! And a lot of the low cal healthy foods are not tasty to me. I find that the only time I can eat few cals is when I don't eat. I know that starving isn't good but I still haven't figured it out. I made skillet lasagna using one of the SP recipes. Was low cal and sooo good but I pigged out on that too!

Sigh...... emoticon

I'm keeping on losing weight, so that's good.

However, I think I haven't yet found filling snacks for me - I get hungry 1 hour after eating a snack. Or maybe my dinner is too late (8 pm)? Who knows.

I thought I'd tell you all about my progress. I've gained 2.something kg last week, but this morning I was down to my starting weight, so woohoo for that! And I'm positive that until Friday (my WI-day) I'll lose even more. I have more energy and determination than I've had in a long while. SparkPeople is great!

Just thought I'd chime in with a progress report! I've been reading everyone's posts and am glad to hear about everyone's successes and challenges. I ate out twice this weekend as well, but did really good! Once was for breakfast and I opted for one apple-whole wheat pancake (they're big pancakes) instead of the buttermilk or gingerbread shortstack I usually order and never finish. (eyes bigger than the stomach syndrome)And then we went to a great Italian restaurant and I got a house salad (no Caesar or pasta) with an herb vinaigrette dressing and drank plenty of water! I walked away from the evening feeling full and not sluggish from over-stuffing.

So far it looks like these changes I've been making have paid off! Its only been 2 weeks and I saw 185 on the scale this morning! Yay Sparkpeople and yay for Sparkteams. It's so nice to be able to share challenges and success with a group. emoticon Have a great Tuesday everyone!!

Happy 1st day of school!!!

I miss those days of getting my girls ready for that exciting first day of school. They are both at university now in a different city, so seeing them off just can't be done. I did email them wishing them a great day and to let them know how proud I was of them. Time goes by too fast.

So, to all you moms of young children...savour each moment and let it burn a joyous memory on your mind!

Happy Monday everyone!

New week, fresh start, success is ours for the taking!

I was so happy to see 2.8 lbs gone this morning! I wasn't sure what to expect since I'd exercised just three times last week. I guess eating healthy really made the difference. This week my goal is to increase the exercise. I've listening to 'The Kite Runner' on audio book, so this can be my incentive to get on that recumbent bike!

Good luck this week everyone!

Sounds like you had a rough night! I'm sorry. No use stewing about it though, just pick up and start again this morning. Everyone has days when they just really need some Jujyfruits. Mmmm, jujyfruits :) I haven't had those in years.

Today is a new day and hopefully a brighter one.

Aw, where to start ...
I hasd a CT scn scheduled for 8 last night, was NPO for 4 hours before, so I was anticipating a meal according to my plan. Well, the f^%*ing test didn't take place because the radiologist was an asshat and insisted on a steroid prep even though my doctor had said it was not required. So I left PO'ed and then the folks who'd brought me took me to an ethnic restaurant where I couldn't really pick and choose, and the appetizers were not right for me. I had broiled swordfish but it came bathed in butter, and with two long potato halves and broccoli rabe. I ate all the fish and potatoes, most of the rabe emoticon .
When I got home, I had all three remaining portions of my comfort food, Jujyfruits. I slept like a log but am groggy and unhappy with myself this morning. Somebody talk to me, please.

Hi everyone sorry I have not been around this week. It has been a zoo at work.

Toshbosh hello and welcome it looks as if they answered your question. but feel free to let us know if you have any more.

Mica you are doing such a great job keep up the good work.

4my2girlznme that is a tough one. usually no matter where you go they have a salad. This is always an ok thing to eat. Try to substitute vegetables or fruit for the potatoes or rice, a lot of restaurants have them now.

Cathie you will have ups and downs, post no matter what because when you are down, we are here to support you and if you are up we are here to celebrate. Support is a key factor and if you don't have it it is very hard to keep up. One thing to think about, How many calories are you consuming and how much extercise are you doing? Just make sure your body is getting enough calories because otherwise it goes into starvation mode otherwise.

Lishanne thanks for the great tips. Good luck to you.

Chinkylevs hello and welcome yes feel free to join it is for everyone.

Bertie hello and welcome just remember slow and steady wins the race. Another words just because you are slow doesn't mean you are not needed.

Squash hang in there you will be back in no time take care of yourself.

Mary you can do it. I love sitting around the fire and hanging out with family. if all else fails jump right back on track on Monday.

soph hello and welcome let me know if you need anything.

Bride you are doing an awesome job keep it up.

With all this being said I think I am back on track now, hopefully I can stay here. But I do know it is going to be a crazy month with work. so sorry if I am hit and miss. Feel free to send me a spark mail if you need an answer within 24 hours I am always on just lose track of my emails some times.

Sharleen

Happy weekend everyone! I feel like I had my first real test today. I ate out for both lunch and dinner today and WOW, this is tough. I felt like everything I looked at on the menu was bad for me. I think I did pretty well, I even ordered my french onion soup without the bread and cheese on top! It wasn't as delicious, but oh well, I didn't feel guilty about it, like I would have if I had ordered it with everyone. I guess one thing I have trouble with is asking a lot of questions about the menu and asking for things to be prepared differently from the way they are described. Not small things like "leave off the cheese", or "dressing on the side", but special requests make me nervous. I must be paranoid, but I'm convinced that the chef is going to be annoyed and spit in my food or something. I'm probably going to need to get over that, huh?

Oh well, even eating out for both meals and treating myself to a couple happy hour light beers, I still stayed within my calorie range. I'm super proud of myself.

Donna, Thank you for your thoughts. I also lost a close family last Sept. I also know how important it is to spend time with our loved ones.

Hello everyone!

I haven't posted yet - I'm 21 and from Austria and I really enjoy the whole SP experience!

My biggest challenge is to not get too carried away with things - I tend to panick when I eat more than 1300 kcal, but actually I'm within my range up to 1600. Ugh!

Hope you all have a great day!

Love,
Soph

Mary, I will say a prayer for you. Relax and enjoy your time together, focus on the time you are able to spend with your brother. My brother died last September and I regret that we were not able to spend time together. Donna emoticon

I am going to need an extra dose of good luck and willpower this weekend. My brother is coming into town and this usually means a lot of eating, some drinking and sitting around telling stories... I will be great time but hard to stay on track

Im on track :) but it seems i have the same problems as many of you. Cosy evenings are hard. Sometimes playing on my xbox or reading helps because watching tv is a sure suggar trigger.
And then we have the weekends. With friends comming over and going out for a drink and watching a movie. I better find some healthy snacks for those occations because i dont want to cancle my social life just because i want to be fit

Levy,
Under recipes you can create a recipe by adding the ingredients used and then typing in how many servings it makes. It will add up everything for you. You can save the recipe and enter it in when you eat it. Also, you can add foods to the database--it's very easy. Let me know if you need anymore help. I'm not very good with instructions.

New member also, I am trying to trim up for beach trip at Easter, my husband also wants to drop 30 pounds. In his case no exercise will be needed, or reduction in fun calories like the 250 cal ice coffee he likes emoticon He will learn, s-l-o-w-l-y. Been awhile since I spent time on a keyboard my skills are rusty, but it is time I don't spend snackin

Hello to all!!!
I hope I can join this group. I joined last aug 19 and since then I tried my best to drink 8 glasses of water, track my food intake and do my fitness goal. But I'm having problem tracking my daily food in take because most of the food I eat are not listed on the food database (asian foods). For example If I have a home-cooked meal called saute shrimp with mix vegatables how can I compute for the nutritional value of this menu? Any suggestions on how to go about it? Thanks

CARMENL, what happens is that I'm laying in bed with my mind racing when the prescription I've taken kicks in with the biggest side effect being hunger, panic type hunger. I'm okay if I fall asleep before then, but after, holly cow, that's hard. That why I think exercise will help because it will calm my mind. I like your idea of drinking a full glass of water..gonna try that for sure!

Go BLUE Team!!!

CATHIE01: I have a similar problem eating at night. Not as much in the middle of the night, but when the day is done, or I'm lounging in front of the TV I tend to snack a lot at night. Maybe because I'm less busy?? It's usually when I'm bored, or want to avoid doing something. I'm usually not even hungry!! I think you are right that getting back to exercise will help. When you say the middle of the night, do you mean that you will be sleeping and get up to eat something? Maybe when you start going for the food, drink a full glass of water first, or do an activity instead to distract you. If you are waking up, maybe doing something relaxing, or reading.

Hey Micaroo,

You need to get your sweetie on board with you to support your choices and to help with a bit of planning. How about if next weekend you pack a picnic for one of your outings? In return, perhaps he can spring for those "more expensive" fattening choices? It can't be that much of a difference -- and the bigger issue at hand is your LONG TERM HEALTH AND WELL BEING. And that's an invaluable investment.

If you do hit a desert place, try to find one with a lower or non fat option (frozen yogurt, fruit salad). Some restaurants will prepare less fattening options off the menu -- and often don't charge much for them. A big plate of greens or grilled veggies with some rice will often clock in much lower on the tab.

As for the exercise, make it your top priority by doing it the first thing in the morning -- before everyone can make demands for your time. You seem to give a lot to other people -- perhaps you should give a bit to yourself at the start of each day.

Good luck!

WOOF!

Weekends are hard for me because I'm out of my regular routine. When I can stick to a routine, I do very well.

I can plan for the weekends, but things happen more spontaneously on the weekends, and the the plans are out the window.

On the weekends, I'm also operating 'under the influence' of my sweetie, and he likes to buy treats and eat out and such. And when we eat out, it always seems like the healthy and calorie-friendly choices are way more expensive than the calorie-rich choices. And if he's buying, I always try to make sure my meal is not more expensive than his, which often leads to fattening choices.

And my exercise plans don't always work either. I may plan a bike ride for Saturday, but bad weather will nix that. It's not like I can make it up at the gym - I can ride 2-3 hours outdoors, but don't ask me to go more than 35 minutes on a stationery bike! And weather is not the only thing that can foil my Sunday hiking plans. If my hiking buddy is not up to it, or doesn't want to go, then we do something else which might not be exercise at all. And then there's my parents and my brothers - if they want to do something together as a family, then all my plans have to be changed to accomodate. My parents are 82 and I'm not going to have them forever, so I don't say no to spending time with them. And both my brothers schedules are more hectic than mine, and not wanting to lose touch with them, I also change my plans in favor of theirs.

So I don't have an answer on the weekends. When I figure it out, I'll let you know!

Hi! I know what you mean by the weekends being tough. One thing I do that works is to try to plan your meals ahead and have them already prepared. It is even better if you can take them with you when you go out. If you do end up eating out try to choose the low fat options and remember you can always ask for your food to be prepared the way you want. Ask for no suaces on things and ask for extra veggies instead of the fries or rice. I learned that from my uncle in Florida who is a super health nut:) Anyway try to be positive and take it one day at a time. If you slip up, get back on trck as soon as you can!

Good morning everyone! Haven't been posting this past week because I felt so guilty for being off plan completely. Today is a new day and I'm back on track. I have so much trouble not eating at night...middle of the night to be exact. I'm thinking that getting back to exercise will help.

Good morning everyone. I am looking for some good ideas for staying on track over the weekends. I do great all week, and then the weekend ruins me. My husband is home from work, we are running around and end up eating out, and I "take the weekend off." Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it?

I'm glad to see all of you over here talking, great team spirit! I definitely can't claim immunity to the late night munchies...but things are still better than they were. One thing that helps me is walking my dog shortly before bed because exercise kills my appetite.

As far as the journal enteries go, you can find them under "My Tools" and then "Planner". That also gives you the option to keep it as a journal or copy it to your blog.

Good morning classmates!

I've finished my strength training exercises first thing this morning, so I'm off to a good start. It's a beautiful day here in New Hampshire - I'll be taking my bicycle to work emoticon 18 minutes of cardio each way. And I'll be taking a 35 minute walk on my lunch hour.

I ate a healthy breakfast, and packed a healthy lunch and snacks for the office. I'm ready to live a healthy day all day.

End of today will be one full week on SP. I'm hoping to have lost 2 pounds.

Hi! I just joined last week and am finding my way around. I just jumped ship from Jenny Craig to SP, as I like to cook and was beginning to loath and resent the awful cardboard food in a box.

Anyone know how to use the journal option (vs. blog)? I managed to make a journal entry a couple of days ago -- but I can't find that option today. And one of my daily goals was to keep a journal. I thought it would just come up on "my tools" or the start menu, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Stab hello and welcome to the team let us know if you have any questions.

Mica you are doing great. although looking at the day to day is ok, it is more important to look at the whole picture like the week in general, and the month. As long as you are not over every day. You should be fine.

squishywasp that is a great idea. Some time you just gatta trick yourself.

Jen try eating healthy snacks before bedtime maybe an apple sliced up with peanut butter or something fairly healthy.

Everyone is talking mostly about thier downfall foods, so I figured I would follow the same track. My biggest problem is the nights, I get the munches. Last night I had Pizza, right before bed (NOT HEALTHY TIME TO EAT OR REASON) I was watching a movie. Tonight I had cookies, while watching the Steelers play football, and the Arena Cup game. The Steelers are winning if anyone cares.

At night I want to snack and eat junk food. that is my biggest down fall. I work out more then the fitness section says and don't realy eat enough so even with the munches I normaly am within my range, but that in it's is not good. So that is what I have to work on. lol. Hope everyone is doing on for the most part.
