Good for you! I signed up for my 1st two 5ks in May. I'm thinking of maybe doing one in April and I have a friend who wants me to do one in March. Not sure if I can be ready by March, but I'm considering it.

I signed up for the Rugged Maniac in April. I think I'll do the walk/ run intervals, sounds great. Also I get the added bonus of playing in the mud! jumping over stuff, crawling through stuff and jumping over the wall of fire! (because I just don't have enough excitement in my life!)
Good luck everyone and just enjoy the experience!

Great advice, Linda. Thank you. My first 5k is in June and I probably would have gotten caught up in the initial surge to run at first.

Congratulations to all those who signed up for their first 5k! That is so awesome. Just remember to relax and enjoy the experience. Don't stress over your time but enjoy it and it will be a starting place to see your changes as you move to other ones. Start out at your own pace when the race starts, and don't get caught up in what the other runners are doing or you'll start off too fast and run out of energy too soon. I have later passed runners who started out fast and ran out of steam while I plodded along. I have also made the mistake of being caught up in the moment and started off fast and a few minutes later felt like I was dying. So be smart and tune them out.
You all are going to rock it!

Woo hoo to everyone! I, too, am signed up for my first 5k--on September 15. I've just started Week 8 of the program, so I should be done (and then some) by then. And hopefully by then, I'll have actually managed to run 5k!

Bravo everybody! I signed up for my first 5K and it'll be on September 23. I can't run 5K yet but I'm working at it!

I've done several of them, although I'm not a great runner. In my last one I used a 1 min run/1 min walk interval all the way through and actually did better than when I tried to run the whole thing. Whether you continue to use intervals or just go for running the whole thing I know you can do this! Welcome to the team!

I did the same, so I guess that makes me crazy too! (Not the 1st time I've been called that, I'm sure)

Good luck-- I wish you the best.

Congrats on signing up! That will be a great boost of inspiration to train to compete in a month and a half. I signed up for a virtual race on Spark people on the 25th of August.

Best of luck to you on your race!

Well, I've taken the plunge and the race is in a little over a month and a half. The good thing is that I've been running intervals for about 3 weeks. Am I crazy???

Please send motivational kicks in the butt!! (Thanks in advance :) )

Dan
