After lots of training (finishing the C25K program) I finished a 5k in just under 40 minutes. but I finished! and I can improve; so forget the others and concentrate on YOU...and improving you own fitness level.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your srength and all your might. Love your neighbor as yourself.

my friends do triathlons and full marathons. one guy even did the NYC marathon in a gorilla suit. i'm lucky that i can do a 5K in 30 minutes, and it's taken me 2 years to get there. i don't care how long i take as long as i see improvement because unlike my friends i only compete against myself. and my highly competitive friends only give me support and praise over the smallest improvement. so don't worry about what other people do, just compete with yourself and the people around you will be happy for you.

Don't give up hope!

Running is very much mental as it is physical. If you can get your mind away from all the can'ts and more into look how far I've come and the CANS than you are one step closer to your goal.

Here is some motivational quotes for you when you think you can't do it anymore:

"Even when you have gone as far as you can, and everything hurts, and you are staring at the specter of self-doubt, you can find a bit more strength deep inside you, if you look closely enough." ~Hal Higdon

"Anything is possible, but you have to believe and you have to fight." ~Lance Armstrong

"The voice in your head that says you can't do this is a liar" ~Unknown (but one of my favorites)

"No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone on the couch"

Happy Running!
At every mile, SMILE!

First off, I think it's great that you posted your thoughts and feelings even though you think you know what is logical and what people will say.

Personally, I think it's a good idea to just get it off your chest and throw it out there. The thoughts and feeling seem to lose their power once they are out in the light and not peeking around the corners in our minds.

Secondly, GREAT job sticking with the program as far as you have!

The very first C25K post I ever made got back a lot of the same feedback - give yourself time - give yourself permission to repeat weeks if you need to, until you feel strong.

Thirdly, are you sure you can't or do you think you can't run a 5K?

Do you feel weak or sick? Do you have an injury? Are you running in the heat of the day? Are you hydrated and well nourished? Do you know how your iron levels are?

Anyway, you are a winner because you are trying! Even if you never ran as far as the people you are comparing yourself too, you ARE a winner because you aren't giving up!

A friend, last week: "Oh, I just started running again, I can only run about 6 K, but I'm getting there"
Other friend, yesterday:"I got these new trainers, so I wanted check how much I can run (has not ran since middle school about 15 years ago). I did only like 4 K...."
Friend of the hubby, yesterday: "If I don't run at least 10K, it just does not feel like a workout (runs about 3 times a month)"
The Husband, today: "I did about 4,5K today." He is on his SECOND week of C25K, that week my route was about 2.5 K.

I am almost done with the program and I STILL can't run the goddam 5K. It seems that everyone in the world can do it just like that or with just a little effort, without even thinking and I am the slowest sloth in the world.....

I know it is not true and I should just concentrate on my own experince and training, but still I am in need of a little encouragement. Will I ever get to the place where these people are?
