Hi all

I have been stuck here for a while. It has been a slow process. However, I am on a mission to get out of here. I am on the elevator moving down to floor #3, Lets hope I am out of here by the end of the month, so I don't have to pay another months rent.

Welcome to the Newbie today. MA

I was hoping I would be gone by the end of January, but looks like I will be hanging out for a bit. I guess I am going to have to put thru more effort on my part.

I am on my way to Sunday Go Meeting. Sunday Blessings to all. MA

Just arrived in 190-ville this morning, 199.8! I've been here before, but it's been a year. Planning to ride the elevator down this month, then hopefully out for good this time!

I finally got into the 190s and hoping that one of these days to get out of the 190s and into the 180s. Especially before October when I see my regular doctor to get off the medicine that I'm taking for my blood pressure.

February showed me that I can't can't out-train a bad diet - I need to focus on nutrition this month.

Suekky - I hope the sessions with the personal trainer have been going well

Just posted that I met with the personal trainer today,,, I am looking forward to this,, we start our sessions next week. Since I am in Italy everything is in kg so basicly I am at 87 almost 88 kilos and he said that by June (because I have to take summer off from gym due to children being out of school ) our goal is to have lost at least 16 kilos... .. that would be 35 pounds which that would make me happy! He said that maybe would could possibly do more but of course I have to really concentrate and work hard.

My weigh-in day is Sunday - it helps me to make good decisions over the weekend. I also weigh-in on Wednesdays, because of another team I'm part of.

I also want to get a personal trainer - it will be a reward for when I get closer to my goal weight (20lbs from goal - because the last 20lbs is the hardest - I have about 60lbs to lose), although I will consider getting one earlier than that, if I'm not seeing the results I expect. For now, I'm losing fat and inches so I'll continue with what I'm doing.

Got back in the gym today, felt so good. Really glad that I changed my weigh in day to fridays. Weekends are tuff to get through when you have to weigh in on Monday.

While at the gym I was talking to a personal trainer. I am going to meet with him on Monday to get some more information. I am thinking about etting a trainer for at least once a week until June. That is when my children will be out of school and I will have to take a break from the gym anyway. I am really feeling good about this!

I think mixing things up is a good idea. It is something I am going to do too once I am able to get in the gym regularly. Not been able to go because yesturday the car would not start, been snowing the last 36 hours and it has had an effect on the battery...wont turn over. Today the kids are home from school. My membership for the gym is basicly for mornings only, Not able to go after 3pm... was part of the discount I got which normally would not be a problem.
I have left some of the teams I was apart of on here because of inactivity. I need to be apart of a team that has alot of activity, its something that helps me,,, having others that in some way help me keep myself accountable if that makes sense. So I am going to try to be more active here, hopeing that we can follow each other down through all the ville teams.

I am changing my weigh in days to Fridays, but tomorrow I am pretty sure i will have a gain, I have not burned many calories this week and not been drinking much water and yesturday let myself go a little. I do so much better when I am outside of the house ROFL.

I did something different at the gym today - I went for the special 90 minute kickboxing class.

It was intense - I had to start modifying the exercises half way through, so as not hurt my knee.

But I was really proud of myself when it was over.

What do you do to mix things up?

Going out for my run today W1D2 of C25K. Yesturday was a rest day but I did go out for a walk. Really trying to pay attention to the times that I eat and what I am eating. Last night, made gnocchi for my family for dinner but I choose not to eat it myself. Gnocchi is not a good thing for me the same with pastas and breads so I try to really limit my intake if any. When I eat bread I try to eat whole grain breads. Working on getting my water in, I keep either a liter or liter and half bottle with me at all times.

Motivated-me that is something I need to do is concentrate more on the process and ALOT less on the scale. I really got myself down last week because of that machine! So that is my goal now to concentrate on meals and exercise!

I've been making progress recently, by NOT focusing on the scale. Instead, I've been focusing on the process - tracking my food and staying within range (1500-1800 calories - not so hard to do), getting my cardio done and doing 3 strength training workouts per week.

It seems to be working for me.

What works for you?

Hi Team

I hope you're all having a great month so far.

Here is the mid-month fitness minutes top 10 leaderboard.

It's not too late to make a plan for the rest of the year - 6 weeks to go until 2012. Every minute spent exercising helps move us closer to our goals.

Remember - the only one you are competing against is yourself. Are your fitness minutes this week less than last week? Last month? Do something active - there are lots of exercise videos on Sparkpeople to help.

Remember to start out small - a 10 minute exercise sparkstreak is enough.

Everyone who has racked up fitness minutes deserves a mention - check out the leaderboard here - Leaving 190-ville leaderboard

Oh no! Is that weight coming off faster? I know it seems like if I gain over a weekend or something, I tend to regain that lost ground faster than normal weightloss.

Yeah, I still haven't weighed myself.... Today is day 2 of 100% back-on-track, so I figure I'll wait a few more days and save myself the pain of seeing a (much?!?) higher number. Ignorance is bliss as far as I'm concerned, and I'll be sooo happy if I get to see I'm "still" 191 in a few days. Here's hoping!

UGH! I got down to 191, and then my parents visited! We ate out most meals, and had goodies and all kinds of awful stuff, boy oh boy did I blow it! I'm scared to weigh myself now that they're gone (and its my TOM, so that'll make it even worse). I feel so depressed.

I wish you could too! We'd have a blast. I'll jump on my elliptical and you can have either the bike or the treadmill! I get them from netflix. I have the old Starsky and Hutch, Simon and Simon, and Magnum PI on queue also. We own the first 3 seasons of Charlie's Angels now, (birthday presents for our son) so they are a fun option also.

Come on over!

I don't follow NCIS as much, but my mom and my brother love it. It's always on when I'm at their house. I've been watching reruns of shows on Hulu.com during my workouts lately... Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Arrested Development are always fun.

Emily.. I realized that I misspoke when I talked about watching the first season of CSI. We do watch CSI, but that's during the regular season when it's on 3 nights a week (we kinda like NY the best, followed by Vegas and lastly Miami).

I actually meant NCIS with Mark Harmon. We are getting the biggest enjoyment out of that. And the last few times we've put in old Columbos (from the 70's with Peter Falk).

Talk to you later,

Oooh dramas and thrillers are great to watch while exercising. I like CSI also. 24 is a good one too; the fast paced style of the show and the drama makes your heart pump anyways and really keeps me going and drives me to go faster on my bike.

Hey Emily! Glad I could give you a suggestion. It's really a great deal to make with yourself if you have equipment in the room. I enjoy putting in a dvd of an "old" tv show if we don't have a movie night planned. Right now I'm making my way through the 1st season of CSI. My son likes the old 70's Charlie's Angels series and my daughter likes the old 70's Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew series. So I always have someone who will watch 45 minutes with me while I jump on either the treadmill or elliptical!

Hey, I just found this group. I love this idea! It will give me one more motivation to keep moving and grooving!

Emilyregina, my son is a huge Laker's fan. You can be sure that he's watching right along with you! I have my treadmill in the living room too. Great way to pass the time. I made a deal with myself: If I'm watching tv, I'm working out. I might as well multitask!

Just got back from an extra long gym session... I went for the 6:30 step class which was so fun! When I got out the laker game was at halftime and I didn't want to miss the second half, so I jumped on a treadmill right near the tv and set it to an incline interval workout. Before I know it, 90 minutes had gone by, I was drenched in sweat, and the Lakers took it in overtime!! Go Lakers!!

I liked your comments on how hard it is to lose weight now. Dark days and winter trying to help us hold on to protection I guess. I usually walk with Nordic Poles but we have an ice storm outside now. This old lady would just break her neck.

Fun watching the kids sliding on the driveway though.

I tried some new diets and just got confused now as they didn't work either, so will just have to do the best I can until the sun starts shining again. Just hope I don"t gain too much.

I like my Cusinart food processor for mincing veggies, this keeps me full feeling and know it will help in the long run. You are encouraging. Thanks

Good morning. I'm new to 190-ville. I actually never thought I'd be here. I started sparkpeople at the beginning of the year at 185. I've been inconsistent and would lose then gain, but in the past 2 months, I've put on 16 pounds. I was about to lie and say I don't know how it happened but I do. I have been avoiding the scale for 2 months for that very reason. I knew my clothes were fitter tighter, but I just buried my head in the sand. This morning I decided to make a fresh start. Let's see how well I can do today. Have a great day, everyone.

I find the short days hard to work with, too. I keep thinking it's night and I should be sleeping!

It's also harder to lose weight as your overall weight goes down, because the amount you need to eat to stay out of starvation mode and the amount you need to maintain your current weight are much closer.

Try to get outside, if you can. Stick near windows during the daytime. I find dancing to be a good indoor activity, and it can be done behind closed doors.

Hang in there!

I have found that staying in 190 ville a difficult place for me. Thought I would just shoot out of here but my self imposed roadblocks keep showing up. Short days seem to make me dispondent and the refrig is always calling.

I do keep a good suppy of right things to eat but just too easy to give up and wish for something else. Bored, bothered and bewildered I guess. Well, no excuses please, just need to get my head on straight. Exercise out of doors is always the answer. I also like my rebounder. Christmas sweets no problem to me though.

Hello, folks! I have been kicked upstairs to being one of the Team Leaders.

I volunteered because I think this team is very important. It's the 'breakthrough' team into ONEderland for many Sparkers, and they will want to keep their momentum going.

Suggestions and/or assistance will be appreciated!

Collie: My DD was on the HS Diving Team. I use to take the Grandkids swimming there for open swim. The GK liked to look in the trophy case cuz the big trophy was still there with all the divers name on it(incl my DD)
Anyway my DD joined us for a swim one afternoon. This was like almost 10 years after graduating. Everyone was kind of looking on in awe - Well she was 7 mo along with her 2nd child and trying to do some of her diving manuevers.
The fun part was that her old swim coach was watching, but didn't recognize her right away. When he realized who it was, He said he should of known.
She was always kind of a little daredevil.
The afternoon was filled with a few laughs over running into her old swim coach.

I better get to bed. My body has been demanding more sleep these days. I know its going to be late when I get up. I will be eating breakfast at lunch time. Maybe before I go to bed.
Have a great day - MA

CONGRATS Ma, that is wonderful. I miss FL mostly because I swam alot there and it sure helped keep me in better shape. I have not been swimming but a couple of times since I moved back to AR in 1994.

You are doing wonderful. Keep it up.

Hope all are doing fine and staying warm if you are in the cold and cool if you are somewhere hot.

Blessings all around.

Ma -
Wow, 120 minutes of swimming? That is so wonderful! I use to be on a swim team in high school, it is really the best exercise for the body! We have a community pool, actually it's the pool we used for my high school swim team. I wish I had time to get down there and swim. (It's been almost twenty years since I was on that swim team, but I still miss swimming everyday.)

Well, I lost another 1/2 pound, so I am officially in the 180's once again. If you all don't mind I am going to stick around a little longer, just to make sure I actually stay in the 180's, and don't gain back any of the weight.

Hi All

This thread almost got lost in my recent post,
Nim - Congrats on the 1/2 pound
I was in the pool for 120 min today. I haven't done that much exercise at one time for awhile. I stayed in an extra 30 min cuz a friend came to the pool and I didn't want to leave her by herself so stuck around for a bit.

I think we were fairly good. We went to the gym one day and the pool the next. Last night, we used the stationary bike in our house.

Right now, it looks like I will be doing a large portion of my Swimsuit Bootcamp videos at work: the living room looks like Christmas spit up on it. I'm hoping to get a little more exercise tonight before the guests arrive, and will need to visit the gym tomorrow and/or Thursday, because we're tied up with dinners and luncheons on Friday and Saturday.

Next week the challenge increases. I'll need to get ALL my exercise in during the first part of the week. On Thursday, we have an office party at the steak house, then the relatives descend Friday night for an early Xmas celebration. The Pagan celebration follows (!) on the 21st.

Then, the marathon: Xmas Day till 1/7/09: trapped in a house with that overfeeding Greek mother. The sort that wants you to eat seconds and leaves cookies & chips around for easy munching. Talk about needing 'won't' power... The only good part is that we should be able to walk outside, necessitating long drives away from the snacks.

Anyone else expecting a similar marathon?

Did everyone have a good, exercise-full weekend? I am very excited to report I am down to almost 190! So I guess I will be moving to 180-ville soon! I only hope my stay in 180-ville will be as short, I don't want to take up permanent residence anywhere other than 140-ville. I am thinking of changing my goal to 135, I think that is attainable. I just want to make sure I can achieve whatever goal I set.

So what are your exercise goals for this week? I have been doing 30 minute walks during my lunch hour and 30 minutes on the eliptical machine at the gym.(I stop on the way home from work. That way I have no excuse for not going to the gym.) I would like to slowly increase my time on the eliptical to 40 minutes by Friday.

I've been with the grandkids a couple of times. The extra weight is definitely something you don't want. Also: developing the habit of drinking lots of water will serve you well. I visit Florida a couple of times a year and I stopped feeling faint after I started drinking water instead of pop.

I am taking my daughter to Disney World in March. I want to have lost a considerable amount of weight by the trip. I don't want to be tired and unable to run around the parks with my daughter because I am carrying so much extra weight with me. I am very determined to be in better shape....plus it would be nice to not avoid having pictures taken! ;)

I've lost 45 pounds, and I am definitely moving around easier. The only reason I'm creaky right now is because I tried out that hip hop course! I was doing 45 in a 20-year-old zone.

I also flew to Colorado a couple of months ago and found out that I didn't need the seatbelt extender any more!

Your so right CollieMom, with the extra weight there are way more things that are difficult.

What made me realize this was going to Hawaii in September with my Mom. I was determined to be at at 50 pound loss and I was.
But while we did all that walking I kept thinking to myself..........if I had been 50 pounds heavier it would have killed me.

So hang in there and with every pound you lose it will get easier.

Thanks MA it feels good to be back on track somewhat and not in the 200ville club.
I will just continue to battle on.

I am going out to look for one of those pedometers, where did you get yours from. I want to start tracking my steps. So far treadmill at home is all I do but sure wishing for a stationary bike for Christmas........... :-)

Well, I did resist the brownies and truffles, along with the pepperoni, cheese and crackers. And my reward? After 8 days back on Spark people I have lost 5 lbs! I am very happy with my progress, I still have a long way to go.

I have been to the gym Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so far this week, and I plan on going today and tomorrow too. I am also walking at lunchtime. The elliptical machine is still much harder for me than it use to be and I realized something last night. The reason for why it is so hard for me to do 30 minutes on the elliptical is most likely the extra weight I am carrying. I pictured carrying a 50 lb bag of dog food on my shoulders as I worked out.....no wonder it is so hard!

My pedometer has a cord that you can clip to your pants...so if the pedometer works its way off your pocket or belt it won't fall on the floor. That thing has a softer plastic thing on it, which the pug liked more than the actual hard plastic.

I am just grateful... I love my pedometer, but it was around $24 dollars and I would have been frustrated to buy a new one and also not be able to count my steps.

Strange, KAS, I would have thought chewing the pedometer would put more than 50 steps on it... I'm amazed it still works.

As for the elliptical trainer... I just started using it a week ago, and 10 minutes is my max so far. Between it and the Hip Hop Aerobics I did on Monday, I think my new membership at the student athletic center is going to kill me!

BTW, I am an employee and MUCH older than the average student.

KAS your story just cracked me up, my chuckle for the day. Thanks for sharing.

MA, I beat myself up yesterday for awhile because I am so off course, then I got mad at myself for awhile and then I got over it and started over.

I ate right, no snacking after dinner and I did my treadmill for 30 minutes b/4 work this am and............. I was at 199.5 so I AM DETERMINED NOT TO GO BACK TO THE 200VILLE club.........woo hoo

I have shared this with my other teams... Ok so first you have to know I am a teacher... and second the story is true....

The dog ate my pedometer! --- Well Chewed on!

Yesterday, I was getting ready for work, and layed the pedometer on the bed to change my clothes (after of course wearing it on my robe in the morning). Well I forgot to put it back on. That enough was upsetting - to be walking yesterday without the pedometer.

When I got home last night... hmmm the clip thinging was there but the actual pedometer was missing. I found it on the floor with tiny little PUG teeth marks. The steps had been reset and the time was hours off (am for pm)and it had 50 steps on it!!

It still works - with a few teeth marks... but alas I start over today!

I went to the gym again yesterday. I can't believe how hard it is to get through 30 minutes on the elliptical machine! Before my life got so busy, eight months ago, I use to be able to do 90 minutes on the elliptical without any difficulty at all. Now it is a struggle to get in a 30 minute workout on that machine! It just goes to show how negatively 8 months of no exercise can affect the body!

I am going back again today, for another 30 minute session with that torture device. I am determined to get back to where I was physically, and I want to stop feeling so tired!

Nim - I weighed this morning and found that I lost over the Holiday week - not quite a pound but the fact that I lost makes me feel I am back on track.
I am just renting in 200ville temporarily (no lease)I will be back to 190ville soon to take up with my old roommate if she is still hanging out otherwise I will look for a new one.

Hey Ma, I weighed in this am and I also had a HORRIBLE month for November. I am back up to 200 so will be heading over to 200ville to post there.

I know I am under so much stress that it is causing me to eat way to much and snack way to much.

But listened to my Paul McKenna CD last night and I am determined to get this 9 1/2 pounds back off and get back on the road to losing.

I am not going to gain back what has taken me 11 months to lose.

I made it to the gym, it felt good to finally get back there. Last year I could do 90 minutes on the elliptical without a problem. But after seven months of not exercising, it was a real struggle to do 30 minutes on the elliptical. I was very tired when I got home, but it was a good feeling. I came into work a half hour early so that I could leave a half hour early. I plan on stopping by the gym on my way home today too. I teach tonight, so that is the only way I am going to be able to get exercise in, and I HAVE to make time for exercise. I am also going to walk for 30 minutes during my lunch break. And my good news? I am down another pound, for a total of a 3lb loss! (I realize the weight loss will slow down after I get into a regular routine, but I am very encouraged right now!)

My plan is to stick to cardio exercise (elliptical) until I lose 15 lbs or until I hit a plateau, which ever happens first. Then I am going to add strength training to continue the weight loss.

Anyone know of any good property available in 180-ville? I am setting my sights on moving soon! emoticon

Hi Ma!

We were away this weekend, but I am happy to report I am down another pound. I am going to make myself go to the gym today on the way home from work. I have 30 minutes on the elliptical planned. (let's see if I can do it!) I am also going to take a walk for 30 minutes during my lunch break today.

"There are things in the village to stay away from. The Village Buffet and the Ice Cream Shoppe."

I will definitely avoid visiting those two places! *grins*
Hope you had a nice holiday weekend!

Hi CollieMom: Welcome to 190ville. I have been here for almost 3 years. WOW, where does the time go. I did well at first, but did the backsliding thing. I just did another bout with backsliding. I guess I just keep going back to my old habits - Maybe the saying is so - "its hard to teach an old dog new tricks" I am persistant though and I keep hanging out and trying - For sure in my next life I will be young and shapely, and mature and fluffy will be forgotten. Wishful thinking anyway. Like everyone else, I keep hoping for miracles and an easy way out.
You would think by now I would have learned that just isn't going to happen.

I have started anew and hope I can reach ONEDERLAND by Jan 1st 2009. I keep hanging out here to warn those that have crossed the bridge frome 200ville to 190ville to be cautious because there seems to be some magnetic field that wants to keep drawing people back.

There are things in the village to stay away from.
The Village Buffet and the Ice Cream Shoppe.

I am trying to find other things rather than food to reward myself. Like a long stem rose for every 5 pound loss.

I am also getting into a craft and a hobby that will keep me busy and stop me from eating out of boredom.

Well I have to run check on my vegiie tomato soup that is cooking in the kitchen.

Have a great week. MA

Trick I learned in W8W.
Take some tupperware containers (the ones that keep things separate and can go in the freezer) so when I make my dinner plate at the table I put the proper portions on it.

When everyone goes back for 2nd's I make me a tupperware container with my 2nd's in it. When Mom is dishing up left overs I do me about 3-4 more plates of my favorite things (Mom's dressing, ham, sweet potato casserole, fried green beans, mashed pot's w/giblet gravy) and then when I get home I put them in the freezer and when I want a taste of Thanksgiving because I ate the right portions at meal time I just whip one out and into the old microwave and Wa-La I have Thanksgiving and all the wonderful taste and memories again with out all the over stuffed misery.

Hope this helps. It always has me.

Hi Ma,

You were right NO SIGN OF CANCER anywhere and I feel 10 pounds lighter even if I am not.........ha
Will have a complete hysterectomy on January 8th and that should lighten me up some. If not then at least "the curse" will not ever bother me again.... Woo Hoo

I would love to have a pool and swim. I miss FL for that very reason. Have not been swimming since I left there and that was in 1994.

Welcome CollieMom1...........glad your here.
I think you will do well and welcome back. Just remember the turtle always beat the hare..........so slow and steady wins the race.

Good luck.

Everyone have a most wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.

Hi - 1st post here! (Other than my post in the biography post)

It's been 24 hours since I rejoined Sparkpeople and I am very excited to report I have lost 1 pound! I know it's not much, and it is the result of calculating what I eat and walking during my lunch break. (instead of sitting at the computer.) But I am excited, this just encourages me to stick with it!

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you! Happy Turkey Day!

Nim - Things always seem to happen in 3's so if pancreas and lung was good report then the ovary should be good too - right?

I just got home from spending one hour in the pool doing water aerobic. It is all I feel up to doing today. It is the 1st time I have been in the pool for over 2 weeks.

So far I have eaten only one meal today, but it was a hearty one. I will settle for something light this evening.

Thursday is just another day for me, but I have friends visiting the area, so will be sharing Thursday with them.

I am back on the wagon trying to reach ONEDERLAND again. MA

I'm glad to hear the tests on the spot were negative for cancer! I hope the mass is also negative. It was very nice of your DH and neighbor to pitch in.

Will the pancreatitis respond positively to a change in diet?

Good luck, and have a great holiday!

My DH actually did a turkey breast in the rotisserie on Saturday and I did some candied yams, dressing and so I have had that meal in perfect portions for 2 nights in a row. Also my 89 year old neighbor made a pumpkin pie and gave me a slice which I cut into 3rd's so have had that as well.

I know this will help me keep from stuffing myself on Thursday.

The only thing I will be wanting is Mom's dressing, the ham and my niece's fried green beans so I should be alright.

Will record everything anyway.

I had a bout of pancreatitis, they found a spot on my left lung and a 13.5 cm mass on my left ovary.

I am over the pancreatitis and on all new insulin.
The spot turned out to be NEGATIVE for cancer and I see the other DR to work out a plan of action on the mass tomorrow.

I am much improved. Thanks for asking.

Have a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving day and may be all be out of 190ville ASAP. :-)

Definitely take care of yourselves while you are recovering, Nim, Ma_Diddles. I have sinus issues, but that could be allergies. However, I find myself conking out in my recliner around 10! Exercise or illness? Could be either.

You may have a strong urge NOT to record stuff this week... please record anyway. If you go over, you go over. Don't skip T-Week, OWN it. I plan to stuff myself with what I like that day, but I also plan to be as virtuous as possible before and after (we'll see how it pans out). Splurges can be compensated for. Don't be afraid to own your eating.
