Good evening again:

My exdilsbf came over to take the air conditioner out of the kitchen window. The temperature dropped 30 degrees in one hour. I was in the basement making room for the air conditioner and I heard a loud crash. The bf lost his grip on the air conditioner and it fell out of the window. I thought someone got hurt at first. Anyway the air conditioner was in several pieces on the lawn. I had him clean the mess up and take it out to the curb. He said he would buy me a new air conditioner and I told him not to worry about it. I have my new air conditioners and they should do the job.

They also gave me some money for taking care of Peanut Butter. I was thrilled to get it and I can use it. It seems PB ran off the other day and was gone for an hour. I am taking care of her tomorrow and I am going to keep a sharp eye on her.

My youngest gs took several pairs of gloves home for him and his brother. I keep a bin full of hats and gloves for the boys in case they need anything. I am going to see if I can find them some warmer gloves tomorrow. It is so cold they could very easily get frost bite. I wait till the end of the season and buy winter gloves and hats and stock the bin again for the next year.

I received a few dollars from the neighbor so now I don't have to worry about getting my tax bill paid for sure.

I need to put plastic on the kitchen window right now. I turned the heat up and the boiler started banging again. I will be glad when someone comes to take a look at it.

Carol: I looked your cat up and saw a picture of that type of cat. The breed is gorgeous. I have never seen anything like it.

You all have a nice evening. Keep warm.

Allie

Took a long walk running errands. It was not too hot or too cold. I wore knit pants and a short sleeve top. It was not my best looking outfit but it was comfortable.

Hola.. sunny now we had rain last night and it went from 60 to 30 and I think tonight Is to go to 21.!!!

Went to hear about buying a heater I could use in emergencies or really any time. It will heat my WHOLE house for a month and a half with the 100 gallon tank I have.. so I don't need to buy another $600.00 tank!!!!!!!!!!!! Installation is 1 hr $85 and he also will clean my gas logs etc included and that was $85 before... so the whole project will be like $550.00 it is a $100 plus of copper tubeing to wrap around a good part of the house that costs.

On the way to the gas co. I went down a road I didn't know was there and it has a creek or river? next to it just like in the Smoky Mtns. and a good size Waterfall...! It was really big right next to the road.. sad part is there is only space for 1 car to pull over. I learned this area used to be public now is private property. I will have to stop one day.. it was very beautiful.

Then went to the library.. and as I was going out my teacher and his wife were coming out.. he looks good... he said he might now come back the last 2 weeks of school.

At school today I gave my apple tree root a second coat of oil and then painted 2 poles.. and went home! Our fill in teacher was helping a student build his senior show display ... and was giving him all his time.. that student also told me he did not have all his pieces even made for the show.. YIKES! and can't make it up in 1 week he is doing a ceramic type thing too!

Well, finally my sugar was down probably lower than it has been in 5 months!!!!!!! Amazing what can happen if you cool the eating of carbs! for a few days!!! I am now down 87 points.. and still have 45 to go... hmmm now it does not seem so bad... to do.

I even ate oatmeal yesterday with a fruit cup and all that was like 60 carbs and later had like 9 or so carbs... so for it to still keep going down.. it was down like 52 pts from the day before!.. so things are not so bad.

I want to drive to the big mall and that is over 40 or 50 miles away but if I went I know I would eat at the food court or the Cheesefactory or buy Seas Candy.. and and and...it is fun to do and I only go to that mall like 1 time a year.. but I would EAT and I can't do that... good thing I do not drink... my will power.. well I fight it every hour .. like every hour...I just want GOOD STUFF to eat.. I did break down and buy the diet ice cream and not the hoggendaus ice cream... I even got a box of Stoffer's alfredo.. actually has less carbs than the diet ice cream.. so really not bad as long as I don't eat too much with it.
........I also bought more hamburger and chicken and salad.. and water and got out of there!

Bonnie... great that Mystery has a new friend in his pasture... and I never understood how animals can stay out is all this cold all the time.. like he needs to be in a thick Onesie with a hood too

Shirley.. I thought.. noooooooo I would not want your books.. I am trying to work on thinning mine out.. that might be why I am missing The Zone... I'm working thinning out Everything but I still seem to be bringing in more than I get out... I have all the Stuff I make and it is becoming a problem.

Well, I missed a day and now I am so behind! I love that this team is so active! It makes it so supportive! But I will just jump in! Yesterday morning, we had a blizzard although it was not really a lot of snow, but driving back from Bible Study was difficult because the wind was whipping the snow around so crazy. But by 1 pm, the sun was out and the roads were fine. I had a haircut appointment and my DH was getting a pedicure.

Shirley- it was great to see your posts again this morning! I have totally forgotten about the book The Zone by Dr. Sears. It was too regimented more me because my personality is too scattered, but for others I am sure it will work great! *The Open House sounds like loads of fun! Can those already living there participate? *I am reading that going barefooted is really good for us in our houses. I plan to do that more.

Cecile- I think you are wise to buy the curtains now while you have the money. *I hope Jess feels better tomorrow!

Miller- I hope all is good with the blood tests. Everything I have been reading says the best thing for arthritis is exercise-nothing crazy, but just movement like walking. I think my DH needs to just do more exercise here at home.

Peggy- it is nice of Tom to pick a Christmas ornament to help a child with Christmas. Our church is doing something this year that I like. They are asking for donations to buy toys and then low income parents will be given money (depending on their income) to purchase their gifts for their children. *I finally got a quote to have some yard work done around here.

Allie- Some people are just rude, but I have developed an attitude that perhaps something is going on in their lives that they are in a bigger rush than me. If a driver is rude, I say a prayer for them that they will get to their destination safely. Itís just not worth raising my blood pressure. *We love the room darkening curtains we have in our bedroom. My DH has such a hard time at night that sometimes he needs to sleep until noon.

Carol Ė your granddaughter is so cute! But you are right, they will wear you out! Iím glad in was in my fifties when my grandchildren were little. I couldnít do it now. *I am sure you can drop those quickly since as you said, it was probably indulging in kidís food.

Slimmer- I am so sorry to hear about your teacher and I am glad you are continuing with your class. Your birdhouse is lovely! *Spark people had a good article on snacks for people with high blood sugar. I thought they sounded yummy! I hope you can find it because I just saw it today. *I am having more trouble with spelling so I think it is an age thing.

Irene- I should make some bread because it is so cold outside the oven will help heat the house. The problem is I canít stay out of homemade bread. Bread is good but I canít eat too much of it.

emoticon team sisters!

Today we have a good covering of snow. The mountain across the road is beautiful. I am going to Giant Tiger tomorrow and I was planning on wearing my running shoes. That plan is way out of the window. I'm back to snow boots.

Chantal and Jess are here today as Jess has a low fever. A day of rest will be good for her.

Have a happy and healthy Tuesday!

Good morning team:

I heard from my exdils bf and he is coming over this afternoon to take the air conditioner out of my kitchen window. He is going to bring my grandsons with him after he picks them up from school. It will be nice to see them, even if it is only for a few minutes. I haven't seen them for over a week. I am spoiled because they live across the street from me and I am used to seeing them more often.

I can't believe how much cold air is coming through there. I will put plastic up after he gets the air conditioner out. I have two more windows to do in the kitchen. I have to climb on the kitchen counter to do one window and I need a ladder. It is a good thing I am as flexible as I am.

I am going to go swimming at noon today. I just didn't feel like getting up early this morning. I stayed up late reading.

My house is a lot snugger with the plastic and new curtains. Storm-my cat isn't too happy that she can't sit in the window like she likes.

I finally get my food stamps tomorrow and I will go to the food bank. My installment for my school tax is due so I have really had to tighten my belt.

It is cold here and it is going to get even colder. It has been very windy and rainy. I looked out the window and my yard is covered with leaves again. I am not going to let it bother me.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Shirley: It is so nice hearing from you again.

Good Morning Everyone!

WOW! I am not as young as I used to be! I had a blast yesterday playing with Lily. We did not do what you would technically call "active minutes" exercise, but I sure did a lot of playing board games, and playing with her Doll House, that you must sit on the floor to play. YIKES! I felt like I was twisting up in knots trying to get comfortable, which never really happened. I rejoiced when we got to story time in the afternoon, I got to sit in a cozy chair and we read some wonderful stories and then did her favorite quiet game of "hinting" (that is find the hidden pictures). She is just too cute and so full of energy.
Today I plan on having a ME day. I will straighten up the house, do some knitting and walk a bit on my treadmill. It is going to be rainy with a bit of snow mixed in today. Not nice for walking outside.
I just went out to feed the turkeys. I am used to the original 7 running toward me excited for breakfast, the newer 8 hang back. Well today, ALL 15 came running toward me making happy sounds. What a great greeting!!! That made my day.

ALLIE - The cat that is with Lily in the picture is her new kitten. He is just a regular tabby cat, but what a little sweetheart. I LOVE the cuddly cats the best. My cat is a lynxpoint siamese. He looks similar to a tabby but has blue eyes. Hastings is 19 years old, but I call him my Velcro kitty, as he sticks to me pretty much like glue. He even wants me to carry him while I walk on the treadmill. Not a good idea, so I close the door to the room when I walk. He is too heavy to hold one handed and if he jumped down he would get hurt. Silly kitty.

I gained a couple of pounds over the weekend, which I chalk up to eating kid food, and too much salt, but it is discouraging none the less. These next couple of weeks I would like to get back down about 5 pounds for our grandson's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Josh called me yesterday and asked me if I would read some of the Letters of Congratulations at his Ceremony. I told him I would be honored to. I need to drop a few pounds to get into the clothes I want to wear. I can do this.

Well, everyone have a lovely day.

Monday. Looks like I missed a couple of days. A quick catch up chat now. I am ok , stable is the official medical word, I have another round of tests and scans coming up
Every day this week I have something happening ,not all medical. Big event on Saturday is my grandsons wedding.
No snow in Uk yet , but so much rain , theres flooding in some places.
The Remembrance weekend was wonderful but so touching , tears flow easier now,I wept a lot ,
Diets ? I donít do any now , I eat what I fancy no big meals and I have gone off most meat. Just can not look at red meat. No particular reasons ,it just happened .I do like chicken and fish. Thinking a chicken casserole in the crock pot would be good today
A new bread maker is in the kitchen now , DS Mike is enjoying making bread , I find it more filling than supermarket bread
I plod on, still here, knitting my special blankets.
I hope to keep up now. Take care everyone. Irene

Shirley... YES!!! The Zone!

hmmm usually I can go through the alphabet and think on each letter but nothing came to me.. dawwww I never went to Z..!

I used to have that book but I don't now.. and really can't believe I gave it up.. but now I can look for it again.. there usually were lots of copies.. it really was a good plan

I just never got excited about it after being diabetic.. because you know I totally when good... stayed away from carbs

but now that I found ..........IF... I would get back to eating 1200 calories... the carbs I ate in almost any amount didn't hurt me.. and I was going lower than I had for the last 10 years

I thought I might look through it again and see what it had to say again.

I am holding weight again at about 210 and fluctuate a couple of pounds either way.. but oh what a difference going down to say 195 lbs... What A Difference.. even my bat wings were going away and my stomach was below my boobs and not sticking out... all of me was thinner and POOF.. I gained and all those fat cells are all filled up again... I was wearing large t-shirts and they are too tight...
....once again I botched up.

I'm trying to get the sugar down.. it was out of sight.. and now I am finding even a little carbs is not letting me go down.. I have to ..when I do this .. have NO carbs for a few days.. but I'll have say 2 or 7 in something and that is too much on days.

Thanks for the name... seriously ... I just don't remember things like I used to and spelling is horrible... I'm hoping this is just an old age thing.. but I really notice it now

Good evening team:

Carol: When I saw the picture of your cat I felt like I was looking at my cat. Does your cat have spots on its belly like a leopard. What kind of cat did you say it was? Someone said they thought my cat looked like a bobcat.

Cecile: I am glad you got some sunshine today. It was 65 here today.

Peggy: I wish I had a house cleaner. After I put plastic up on the windows I cleaned the downstairs and it wore me out.

Slimmer: I miss having some kind of back up for my heat. I ran a wood stove in Ct. and Maine. When I was little I ran a coal stove and chopped kindling.

Shirley: Your facility sounds very nice. I am going to put my name on the waiting list for the new low income apartments in town. It can't hurt.

Miller: It was so cold at the pool at the Y that several people left. I hope they get it fixed by tomorrow.

I bought a pair of insulated drapes for $2.00. I put them in my kitchen. It looks a little odd but it get so cold in the kitchen just plain kitchen curtains would not have helped.

I just spent two hours raking leaves. I filled 4 containers up. I wanted to get it done before the cold snap.

I hope everyone has a good evening.

Slimmer - I believe you are referring to ďThe ZoneĒ. The author and originator is Barry Sears. You can get a good bit of information off the internet. At one time they had a support group and chat room(s) just like Spark People, and perhaps still do. I wish I could have given you all my books. In fact you would have had a field day going through my library. I donít know what happened to all my books. Iím afraid to ask. A one bedroom apartment with not a lot of storage space, I had to leave LOTS behind.

Shirley... what is the name of the Diet and book that you like.. I do not have mind evidently any more and I know it was mostly a white cover but nothing I do can get me to remember what it was called.

..when I was doing the 1200 calories and eating a little of everything I was doing good and surprising so was my sugar good.

I wanted to check it out again.. but for weeks now my brain computer evidently has crashed.

Shirley, it really is amazing that your custom orthotics have worked for you for so long. I hope Katie gets as much use from hers. They told her if she ever has any trouble with them to come back - I think there's some kind of warranty on them. Proper footwear can really make a big difference!

Miller - re shoes and orthotics - when I was in my early 20s I went to a podiatrist for some reason and he ordered custom orthotics for me. Do you know those things still work for mr although my feet are longer and wider. I find it amazing. I wear them inside my cross trainers Around the house I go bare foot. Interesting conversation about shoes and foot problems, at least for me.

emoticon Hi to all.

ALLIE, Iím sorry that man was so rude to you. I donít know whatís wrong with people. Randy and I were just talking today about how the closer it gets to the holidays, the ruder people seem to get. Youíd think the holidays would bring out their best, but I guess itís a stressful time of year. Still, thereís no excuse for his insulting behavior. *I hope you can get the plastic put up on your windows before the frigid temps come. Sleeping in is probably a very good thing to do, as youíll need energy for the windows. Thanks for the heads-up about the senior vaccine causing tiredness - I got one today and will see how it goes.

CAROL, Lily and her kitten are adorable!!

SLIMMER, I love your bird house - itís looks very natural and whimsical. *Your room looks lovely and you have a good space for the gas heater.

SHIRLEY, I hope the Grand Opening is enjoyable. *Randy used to wear Rockport shoes - I canít remember why he stopped. I think heís wearing Brooks shoes now.

KATHRYN, thanks, yes, my doctor appointment went well. *Iím glad you found some shoes that work for you. Katie had lifelong trouble with her feet until she found the right shoes and got custom orthotics. She still has to take Tylenol when on her feet all day at work. Still, Iím amazed sheís able to do it, as she was never able to stand for more than an hour before these shoes and inserts.

I did some chores this morning and went to the doctor this afternoon for blood work and a flu shot. He was happy to hear that Iím walking some now, though he noticed that I had gained some weight and said Prednisone is well known for weight gain. He said in some cases, doctors will give it to ailing patients to boost their appetite. He also said Prednisone can boost a personís A1C numbers (the diabetes test), so I REALLY hope my blood work is good. My blood pressure was great. He encouraged me to walk every single day between now and Thanksgiving and see how I feel. I just wish a cold front wasnít moving in tonight. I walked today and it was nice - in the 60ís. I do Not like the cold. *Just read the weather forecast - they say we may get some snow and ice with the rain tomorrow.

Kathryn - I was a walker before my knees said no more. I walked between 3.5 and 5 mph on a school track 6 days a week. I was walking 4 miles per day. I found Nikis hold up well, although I really I think Rockport puts out the best walkers. I wore Rockport walkers for fitness walking. . I wear Niki cross trainers now, when Iím shopping or leave my apartment. They have held up very well. Some of Nikiís handling of patriotism issues has caused me to question what Iím going to do when I must replace the shoes I have. I have bought my shoes at a shop called Famous Brand Shoes and Iím remembering I only paid $30.00 for them, but I could be misremembering since it was years ago. And oh yes, once when I was having foot problems a foot doctor diagnosed my problem as arthritic ankles ( yes both ankles and both knees) and said I was wearing the right shoes.

My foot doctor said I had to wear New Balance tennis shoes for my food problem. So I went and bought two pair at $150 each. They lasted 6 months even with changing them back and forth. They wore out in the idside. I bought other brands at the Goodwill for less than $20 and they have lasted over a year and still going well. I think the shoe salesperson fit my shoes wrong because I have two second hand New Balance that are lasting. And they fit great.

Carol your granddaughter is very pretty and her kitten is cute

Miller I hope all went well at the doctor office.

Good Morning Everyone -

Weíve had our first snowfall of the season this morning. Not a lot of accumulation- thank goodness. Thankfully it has been well above freezing, so the roads shouldnít be icy According to the app on my phone it is 31 degrees right now. I plan to stay put today. This place is having a big Grand Opening event tomorrow. Itís to last around 4 hours. Tomorrow is to be sunny but cold. If wondering, this facility opened in January. I moved in the end of that month. They are having tours, cocktail hour, ribbon cutting and all kinds of stuff going on.

Grace - I would have thought youíd be in Florida by now. I definitely donít envy you moving every 6 months, but realize itís most likely worth it once you get settled in. Know Iím wishing you well and wishing you a safe and pleasant journey.

Carol - I join the others in telling you you have an adorable granddaughter. A really cute picture.

Wishing for everyone a great day and a great week ahead.

Hola... cool and breezy out.. still wearing my shorts and sandals out

Got my first electric bill and it only went up from $78 to $89 and I've had the heater running for weeks now to keep the inside an even temp and when raining dry.. so I don't think that increase is bad at all. Seems like last year my first bill with the heat running was over $400.00!

I'm hanging in there.. just keep chipping away at all the things it takes to keep the house me and school running and it just keep coming, but I am caught up at the moment.

First that insurance change.. and then writing and chatting with all the people who wrote me when I posted on FB.. hope they got the help they need. The old company just sent me a payment books.. such a waste to send all that out thinking people would just keep the same ins. ..so I made sure they had me canceled.

Working on getting the propane gas company to put in a Gas Heater so I can use it in emergencies. The heater and a new gas tank I hope will only cost around $1000.00 where one of those Generators they can put on a house are more like $10,000.00 and even the smallest one has to have a 250 gallon tank and that is like a big truck in size and the guy said I don't even have space for one when following all the rules of where they can be placed. So this heater should give me like 500 hours of heat for the whole house.

but.. he keeps putting my meeting off with him. Going to try tomorrow.. again.

This is the space I am putting in the heater. Off the Front of the house the tank on the side and then he will bring in copper around from the side across some front into the porch area and then into that corner. He said once in I can use it as a table and when I want to use it move it around in that corner. ???

So I moved everything to the right.. took down and washed the drapes and washed the windows and floors... so I am ready to see how it fits in. I do need to get the rocking chair back in that area. ((That rocking chair is the 2nd piece of furniture I ever bought.. but.. dawwwww I think it wise for nobody over 200 lbs to sit in it.. so I have never used it.. but I think it is pretty wicker woven.. goes with other pieces I have.))

Then I have been working on my last two school projects. This is a finished sculpted birdhouse. Also made partly of scraps and I painted it and then stenciled odd shapes on it and then added part of a dead tree .. the tree seems to be pretty tuff and might last some time on it. This will go on top of a cemented poll I had put in some PVC.

Oh, my school teacher.. had a massive heat attack and now won't be back until next year. He has a divice on him that if his heart stops again it will shock him back to life.. hopefully.. so he can't drive etc. I'm pretty much the only one showing up for class.. so his assistant his running the class.

On checking my online bank account.. my Credit.. for using my credit card.. went from like $315 down to $279... like where was my money going. I called and credit back earning expire after 5 yrs and I had never taken anything out.. so I Lost.. like $41.00 well that did not make me happy. I asked the bank girl.. IF.. I complained real hard would they say it was a mistake and put the money back in... she said Nope never changed this.. so I actually gave up Real Easy... I figured this is one battle I was not going to win and was not going to waste any energy.

Irene.. colorful lap blanket.. lots of colors.. and that is a lot of work! Great job!

$100.00 sneakers... ohhhh no .. would never happen... plus my feet never feel good in sneakers and I never have been able to wear them

Cut picture Carol of the kitty and gd.

Grace glad you are getting back to warm FL

Allie, it was quit expensive to get the tennis shoes. I got Under Armour for $40.00 and the handbook was $20. The items were the least expensive that I could find. I certainly wasn't going to spend $100 for a pair of shoes.

Carol, your DGD with the cat is so cute.

Today the gal is coming to clean the house. So far no landscapers showing up.

Carol - Your grand-daughter is adorable. That is such a good picture of her and her cat.

We have sun shine this morning. What a morale booster! It looks cold (I haven't checked the temperature). I told my daughter last night that I am going shopping for a new coat on Wednesday. I am looking forward to the outing.

I wish everyone a happy and healthy Monday!

Good Morning Ladies!

Nutty weekend! Had to pick up my grand daughter from school on Friday because she was not feeling well, and her mom, my DD was on a school charter (she is a school bus driver) and my SIL was working. She rested and felt better later on, I took her to her dance class that she was just going to observe, then I headed out to pick up grand daughter #2 for an overnight.
We had a blast, but I was wasted by the time she went home.

Yesterday I played for 2 church services and pretty much crashed the whole afternoon and evening.

I did go to bed early, but the cat cried all night, ever couple of hours. Got up finally at 5, showered and dressed. I am having my coffee now, and then will head out to my son's house to stay with Lily for the day so her parents DS and DIL can work. It will be a terrific day with Lily and her new kitten. Will try to get out to the Mall with her, so we can walk a bit. I need to get some active minutes in.

Here is a picture of what my day will look like today.
Everyone have a good one!

Good afternoon team:

Irene: I love parades, but you are right they are sad too.

Ellen: My leaves aren't bad enough or deep enough to mulch. Thanks for the advice. I noticed how much warmer it was when I came downstairs this morning. I still need to do the kitchen and all of the upstairs. It is going to get bitter cold here in the next couple of weeks and i want to get ahead of it.

Cecile: Curtains do help with the cold. I have room darkening curtains in my bedroom and they help me sleep better.

Kathryn: You sound like you got some good deals.

Miller: The senior vaccine is 4 times as strong as the normal one. I got their last dose. One of the side effects is being tired. I slept in until 10:30AM this morning.

Marlene: I also hope your eye doctor appointment goes well.

Peggy: That was very generous of you to honor the boys request. That must of been expensive. I would have never thought to look at the request before I picked it off of the tree.

I went to Home Depot to pick up more plastic. I noticed this man pushing his cart in front of me and he had been behind me. He told me he had been in front of me. I told him I had moved out of his way so he could get behind me. He said sure I could go ahead anyway but I was ignorant. I told him he was the one that was ignorant and I went to the other end of the store to get waited on. I was so mad. I am sure he would have never spoken to a man like that. Home Depot hardly has any cashiers anymore so I had to wait in another long line. I was not happy.

The nearest Kmart to me is going out of business. I found 3 pair of room darkening drapes for $6.00 a pair.

I didn't go to the Y today. I need to save my energy to get the rest of the windows covered in plastic.

I hope everyone has a good evening.

Happy Sunday

We have a Christmas tree at church and Tom picked an ornament without reading what the child wanted and needed. A 14 year old boy with a size 12 men's tennis shoe, he also wants Dungeon and Dragon Handbook. Called my dear grandson RJ to find out what type of tennis shoes boys that age wear. RJ will be 13 the day after Christmas. The answer was basketball shoes and he had no idea about the handbook and said he never heard of it. Ordered both items from Walmart.

Ellen, you are welcome about the fusion discussion. After all, it was major surgery.

Warmer here today, now 60į and sunny.

emoticon Hello friends,

BONNIE, itís good to hear that Mystery is calmer with his new friend now. I agree that he is probably letting the other horse know that it was his territory first.

IRENE, I hope you enjoy your grandsonís upcoming wedding. *What a lovely blanket you knitted! Well done!!

ELLEN, I really like that aerobic exercise regimen you described - it sounds like something I could do - except for the stairs, as we donít have any. I could march in place for another minute, though I know thatís not the same as walking up and down stairs. *With your Auntís ages, it sounds like you have longevity in your family. Maybe you can look forward to living a long time. *Congratulations on your 8000 steps! Iím SO glad you had that surgery - it has made such a wonderful difference in your life!!

MARLENE, I hope your appointment with the eye doctor goes well.

PEGGY, Iím glad ibuprofen helps your knee. Itís good medicine, but kind of hard on the stomach. I try to take it with food now.

CECILE, that book you are reading sounds interesting (I like courtroom dramas), but I would have a hard time with it. I canít stand child abuse - it breaks my heart.

KATHRYN, Iím glad you got to go to the 99 cent store to find some great buys!

GRACE, good luck with your packing and deciding what to bring with you to Florida. It sounds like a mammoth job, but Iím sure youíll be glad when youíre down there enjoying the warm temps.

ALLIE, thank you very much for your encouraging words about my weight gain from Prednisone. It meant so much to me for you to say that my health and being pain free are more important. I had been feeling very scared about it and your kind words help put things in perspective. *I hope your arm stops hurting soon. I hope to get a flu shot at my doctor appointment tomorrow. They told me at the pharmacy that they were out of the kind for people over 65. That was the first I knew that folks over 65 got a different kind of flu shot.

It is really cold here today - it got down in the 20ís last night. Should warm up as the day goes on, though. Randy is at church and Katie has gone to work. I have to see my primary doctor tomorrow morning for a blood pressure check and blood work. On Friday, I have a mammogram - the first in 3 years. It will be nice to get both those appointments over with.

I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday and a happy week ahead!!! emoticon

Woke up to a chilly bed room but the thermostat in the living room said it was only 73. I think my bedroom is colder. I got up and turned the oven on and made pumpkin muffins from a mix I bought at the 99¬Ę store yesterday. It was a really good shopping trip. . I got such good buys and was even able to buy hubby a new blanket for his bed for only $7.99. I was able to buy everything I was looking for $50. We had some of the noddle mix last night and hubby loved it. I got my brand shampoo and cream rinse for only 99¬Ę each a really good savings.

emoticon team sistrers!

It snowed yesterday late afternoon. It's still on the ground and on the roof across the road. I guess we'll have to wear boots for the next few months.

Yesterday, my daughter said she would shop for the curtains for my bedroom. I told her to wait until next Spring for the living room. After thinking about it during the evening, I decided to ask her to buy the ones for the living room since I have the money at the moment. I don't want to put them up until next Spring after she paints the walls.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and blessed Sunday!

YEA! All the leaves on both sides of the stream are mulched! I spent over an hour walking around the acre picking up sticks and even dragging a couple of big limbs to the pile in the woods. (I am hoping a woodchuck or rabbit might think it makes a good home). Most of the smaller limbs and sticks went into yard bags to put out for the recycling company on trash day. I also cut down a dead bush in my slope rock garden. My step tracker was over 8,000 steps yesterday!

It dawned on me yesterday that it was the anniversary of my spinal surgery. What a difference surgeries have made in my life! I am so glad that we have Medicare. Otherwise, I would be in a wheelchair.

Marlene- we had a beautiful day yesterday, but tomorrow the forecast is for really cold temperatures. *Cataract surgery can make such a difference in your seeing. I am glad you are having this. I have not noticed that pushing a cart does not count steps. Thatís NOT fair! Iím glad my DH always wants to push the cart at the grocery store.

Peggy- thanks for the warning. I look them up on the internet news and couldnít find anything bad but actually really good things said. I wonder why they were being investigated. *I still want to say thank you for helping me through the spinal fusion recovery. Like you, picking up the yard limbs caused me to get on a heating pad afterwards, but it went away quickly.

Cecile- that sounds like a very disturbing book. I hope your shakes are better today.

Grace- I am like youÖI am always checking the posts to see what is going on in everyoneís lives. I may not be able to reply everyday but I almost always read them. You are getting down to the wire!

Allie- I hope the plastic works on your windows! It appears this may be a cold winter. *I was so glad that my DH mowed over the leaves. Our county extension agency says you can mulch up to 6 inches of leaves in your yard and it will fertilize the grass, but it is best if you stay on top of it and do an inch or two at a time.

Irene- what a beautiful blanket! It is so colorful! Do you make the dark Xís with a dark yarn as you sew the squares together by hand? I should check out Pinterest. * Steady work is so much less stressful than not knowing what your paycheck will be. But I am glad Dan can help his dad.

Good evening team:

Miller: Don't beat yourself up regarding your weight gain. Your health and being pain free are more important.

Bonnie: I am glad you were able to get a ride in. I have been to Tysons Corner. I loved it. I still need to take care of my leaves. I seem to have lost my get up and go. I think it got up and went.

Irene: I hope you are enjoying your day.

Grace: We are always here for you also. Take a deep breath and try not to get overwhelmed.

Kathryn: I love the dollar store. I try to go there first before I waste my money at other stores.

Ellen: I do get a yearly tax rebate. It helps a little.

Marlene: I do get to go home for a couple of hours while I am at the polls. I didn't have as much energy this year.

Peggy: I hope you are enjoying the sunshine.

Cecile: I hope your shakes calm down.

I had to go to Home Depot to pick up some plastic to put on my windows. I am going to do the downstairs windows and see if that does the trick.

I went to Target and had them give me my senior citizen dose of a flu shot. My arm has been hurting ever since. I got a $5.00 gift card from Target and I used it to buy food.

I had a $5.00 coupon for Kohls and a 20 percent off coupon. I found a nice blouse that I am going to wear for the holidays. I will only have to pay $3.04 out of pocket.

I priced cuddle duds and I think I will just make due with the long underwear I already have.

I guess I need to get cracking and get the plastic up on the windows. It is quite a job but it is worth it in the end. It has been very cold here so it should make a big difference.

Good afternoon team! It's a very sunny, BUT 37 degree day. I started a post last night but never finished it.(barely started it as I only replied to one member) It's getting to be super crunch time. It would be a luxury to be able to sit here and write a member worthy post but I can't because I'm busy trying to pack and remember what seems like a thousand things before Monday night. It would be easier to just move than do this temp stuff where I have to decide what goes and what stays, for the next 6 months. When I take a break the first place I go is to Gen Chat to see what's going on with everybody. Thank you all for being here!

I got up in the wee hours of the morning and posted on Spark and then went back to sleep. I got up at 7:30 and feel like I got enough sleep. I am waiting for our caretaker Aje to come in and than I am going to the 99¬Ę store. I want to get some rice pudding for our sweets day. I also want to get some soup, chili and rice mixes. I want to look at their shampoo and cream rinse to see if they have any good brands.

emoticon Team sisters!

My shakes are bad this morning. I don't think I'll do much today.

I am currently reading a french book regarding a little girl that was beaten to death by her step mom. I've heard about it and read about it years ago. The story I'm reading is more about what happened in the courtroom. It is a true story that happened in 1920. The child was 10.5 years old.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy Saturday!

Happy Saturday

Ellen, be careful with hearing aids made by Starkey. The company has been under investigation according to my DD Christina who worked for them about 2 years.

I sure wish I could exercise but I have trouble walking with my bum knee. I take Ibuprofen twice a day for it.

Sunshine today but only in the 30's. The leaves are falling rapidly.

Good morning Team Sisters. A quick post before I get busy with my chores. We had snow flurries yesterday, it was 24¬į this morning.

I should be checked for hearing aids, my hearing is getting worse. But I think I must get my cataracts taken care of. I see the eye doctor in two weeks.

Grace, safe traveling. Hope you find your winter home okay.

When walking on a treadmill Fitbit will not register your steps if you hold onto the rails. The same thing when pushing a grocery cart. It's frustrating.

Allie, I was at the voting poll 15 hours. We had approx 34%turnout I don't if I can continue it is a long day.

Peggy, sorry that Catherine isn't too well. I know you must be worried. ūüôŹūüôŹ

Must get moving before hubby gets back from the hardware store.

Everyone have a great weekend.

A beautiful Saturday to my Slimming Senior Sisters! I just finished a couple of letters with inserted photos to send to my two aunts. One is in her mid-90 and the other one is over 100 years old. (Iíve lost count if it is 102 or 103.) Their children tell me that they both love receiving mail.

I have found an aerobic exercise routine that is simple and perfect for me. You march in place 16 times, then side-step 16 times, kick 16 times, and raise your knees 16 times, then repeat this raising your arms each time. Finally, you go up and down the stairs for one minute! I am winded when I am finished.

Cecile- You stated something that I know from experience works, but then I donít do itÖjust start doing something and once you get started, you feel fine! In fact, you feel good because you accomplished something.

Allie- I was shocked at your taxes! Our property taxes are half as much as yours. Plus, there is something where if you have a very low income you get a waiver of some kind. We have never met the income requirement so I never have looked into it. Perhaps you should make sure they are not over valuing your house. *Perhaps if your sister leaves her faucets dripping a little, they wonít freeze. My parents did that in North West Texas. *I have an LLBean coat that I bought probably 30 years ago and it still looks good. The problem is that it has to be cleaned and it is white, so I usually wear a black coat I have.

Miller- I dated a guy that we drove 150 miles and he never said one word. I was thrilled when I meet my DH and he would talk so much when we traveled. In fact, the evening he called me to ask me out on our first date we talked over an hour. *I hope I never have to take Prednisone if it makes you gain weight. I do quite well on my own in that department.

Bonnie- Thank you for telling me what the doctor told you about the removal of only part of a thyroid would not require medication. I had a goiter so large that my primary doctor noticed it by looking at me. I have always wondered how much was removed. *My DH controls the remote because I find most television boring after a while. So, if I really want to watch something, I put on my headphones and watch it on my iPad. But I read a lot also. *I am so glad that Peggy kept telling me how long her back issues lasted because I think I would have kept returning to the doctor asking why I am still not able to stay on my feet as long as I like.

Irene- my hearing aids donít require those tiny batteries and are so easy to put in. My only fear is that Iím afraid that my winter coat with a hood may knock them out of my ears if I am not very careful. They are called livio by Starkey. I didnít buy the most expensive kind but the one in the middle.

Kathryn- I was told that Costco or Samís hearing aids are much cheaper than the route I took. So, if you look around, you might find some that may help you.

Ellen

Good morning Irene. I have a hearing problem some letters I hear wrong and things can sound funny. The other day I thought hubby called a friend Rover when he called him by his name Reggie. It was not funny. I need to stop arguing with hubby when I hear things wrong. I should ask him did you say such and such and see if I can get it straight. Hearing aids are not paid for by my medical coverage. Not even hearing tests that are not done in the doctors office. I had one of those years ago and we found the problem but could do nothing about it. Most of the time I hear everything okay.

Hello on Saturday. The weather ok over first place on news this week parts if England had a lot of rain. Some roads round here were flooded , though this road being on a hill stays dry.
Politics are for ever I think and become boring , I am getting to the stage of not caring who wins an election. Itís in Dec.
Now itís run up to my grandsons wedding , a week today it wonít be news but we shall enjoy it. All I have to do is attend the service. Or as Mike puts it
Just keep breathing Mother. I promised to try .
I still have lots I want to do. I feel well generally.
Ellen I am interested in your hearing aid. I am at the stage you were I need tv sound up higher I canít hear some speakers and misshear things yes it becomes funny in a way. Hearing the words ď I want to live for ever ď I heard as ďI want a pound of liver ď . Well we have to laugh donít we
I keep wondering should I get my ears tested. But then think do I want more medical things going on ? Thereís two options here Free hearing aids which need batteries .or expensive modern ones . Do I want to spend a lot at my age? So far I have done nothing .
Have a good day. Irene

Good Morning, Team Sisters,
The sun is shining but the wind is blowing and the temperature is only 42 degrees at Noon. I don't know what the wind chill temp is.

I went to the Farm yesterday and rode Mystery for 45 min. He was so calm. It is amazing what a "friend" can do. Although, they really haven't bonded yet. Mystery is kind of mean to him and puts his ears back and kind of "herds" him to where he wants him to go. DH says that Mystery is just reminding him that it was his field first. It has only been 6 days. I'm sure they'll warm up to each other.

On Wednesday we drove down to Manassas, VA to Duluth Trading Company. DH loves their clothes and needed to buy some more. I bought a few things. Then we drove to Tyson's Corner Mall and did some more shopping. This is a trip we usually take at Christmas time but we are glad we went when we did. The stores were practically empty of shoppers. I get so tired when we go to a Mall and walk the whole thing--plus my left leg tends to hurt. My doctor thought it was bursitis but I'm not so sure. It has the same symptoms but doesn't seem to be going away--though it is better than it used to be. Maybe I'm too impatient.

@Peggy - I'm so sorry that your DD is so sick. I hope she is doing what the doctor tells her.

@Ellen - You must have had all of your thyroid taken out. My doctor says if only one lobe is taken out then you don't need medication. I'm going to hold onto mine as long as I can.
About your question - my husband is pretty independent and doesn't need me with him every second. He reads a lot or listens to opera music (which I fall asleep listening to) so he is perfectly fine with a good book and his music on. When we are watching TV we watch together but he insists on flipping the stations when a commercial comes on --Drives me crazy! Sometimes he gets interested in another program and we don't get back to the one we were watching unless I remind him to flip back. If it's a program I really am very interested in I take the remote and don't let him have it! Then he gets a book and reads while the commercials are on. I'm really not sure why he hates commercials so much.

I need to go outside and do some yard work. I'm procrastinating because I don't want to be cold - even though I know if I start working I'll get warmed up!

Have a Great Day.

Hi to all.

GRACE, I hope your preparations for going to Florida are going well.

IRENE, Iím so happy to hear things are stable with your health - that is good news! *Iím sorry Mike had to work in the rain.

CECILE, I hope you can find a new winter jacket - sounds like youíll need it with snow falling already.

YVONNE, I hope your doctor appointments go well.

ELLEN, Iím sorry to read that your Aunt is ill and Hospice has been called. She sounds like a good person - always wanting to help people. I think itís a testament to her character that her son-in-lawís still make sure sheís taken care of even though they have remarried. *Randy is in the room with me a lot of the time because we both sit in the living room a lot. That said, he doesnít follow me from room to room when Iím doing chores and I would find it very hard if he did. Itís nice that your husband likes to talk, though. Sometimes I get lonely when Iím in the same room with Randy.

KATHRYN, itís good you got the lease done, but Iím sorry you were in pain. I think I had forgotten how much energy pain saps until I went down on my Prednisone again and my pain increased. *I hope your hubby can get an electric wheelchair.

CAROL, Iím sorry your husband had an accident. *I hope his colonoscopy goes well. I had one not too long ago - the doctor was looking for a bleed - but didnít find one - so I am now taking iron. I hope they find out what is causing your husbandís iron levels to be so low.

PEGGY, Iím very sorry Catherine is having to have infusions now. Her health struggles must be so worrying. It sounds like they are being proactive in taking care of her. I wish her all the best in her treatments.

ALLIE, the amount you have to pay in taxes is so high! I donít think you should have to pay so much - itís an unreasonable burden. I donít think we have school taxes here in NC? *I hear good things about Cuddl Duds - Iím sure they would keep you feeling cozy.

Thereís not much going on with me. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Good morning team:

Grace: I love the name Audrey. I had a dear friend named Audrey. She was like a second Mother to me. Good luck on your trip back to Florida.

Cecile: I am glad your cleaning is done. I can't seem to get enough energy to clean. I hope you find a nice warm coat for the winter. I buy my coats from L.L. Bean and I keep them for years.

Irene: Thanks for explaining the political process in your neck of the woods. I was always trying to figure out what a prime minister was.

Ellen: I hope your Aunt starts feeling a little better. It is so sweet how the family still takes care of her.

Carol: I received a coupon for 12 free cans of cat food from Purina. I am sure Storm will eat those right up. Your restaurant sounds and looks lovely. My sons Mother has a library set up on the corner of her yard. Anyone can come and get books at their leisure. I live quite close to an elementary school and it warms my heart to see the children picking out books on their way home.

Yvonne: I remember visiting the famous library in New York and I was in awe.

Peggy: It must be difficult to have a daughter that is unwell.

Kathryn: I called the new apartments for seniors. They called me back today and told me they have a 3 year waiting list. I hope your husband gets the new wheelchair. I am sure it will increase the quality of life for the both of you.

The lifeguard is still blasting his radio. I told the assistant manager about it again yesterday morning. This morning the lifeguard went into his office and left another lifeguard on duty for about half an hour. I asked the lifeguard to please turn the radio off. He did so but reluctantly. When the usual lifeguard came out of his office and realized the radio was off he went right back to the radio and turned it up real loud. I told the assistant manager what he did this morning and she went right down to talk to him. She was really mad. I hope he got an ear full.

I just received an automated call about one of my hospital bills. I had to call them back and remind them I had already sent them a payment towards the bill. She did some research and couldn't find it in their records. It is a good think I keep such good track of all my bills.

I was speaking to my sister in West Virginia yesterday and she told me she didn't have any heat. She said her son was going to work on the furnace and get it running. She told me she would be fine. She had plenty of blankets. I reminded her the pipes could freeze and break.

My brother called me and he is upset. His landlord told him he couldn't let other people live in his apartment. The landlord increased his rent by $100.00 a month and said if he does it again he will increase it again. The landlord went away on vacation and one of the other tenants said he is going to report my brother to the landlord. My brother thinks he can just move. He doesn't realize how hard it is to get an apartment that he can afford.

The neighbor across the street just sold her home. I reminded her she was going to send me a check for helping her out with certain things. She said she will send the check out right away.

The third installment of my school taxes is due and I need every cent I can get. I pay over $5,000.00 per year in taxes.

It is very cold here. I am trying to keep my thermostat set at a comfortable 69 degrees. I am thinking of buying cuddle duds. They are selling them in Walmart at a reasonable price. My sil in MIchigan wears them and she swears by them.

I hope everyone has a good evening and a good weekend.

My downstairs is done and so is the bathroom upstairs. I didn't feel like doing it but once I started I felt fine. I'm happy those things are done.

Hope everyone has a happy and healthy Friday!

My DH is sleeping in so I am taking this quiet time to post. Does anyone besides me have a DH that likes to be in the same room with you all the time? I love that he cares that much, but it is sometimes hard to concentrate on something I am working on. Often I just give up and pick up my knitting. I can listen and do that. But I am so happy that he is still healthy and alive and fun to be with so not really complaining. I am blessed in so many ways. He is two years younger than me and actually in better health.

Kathryn- I hate the lease is more expensive but glad it is less than the previous apartment. My DH and I keep hanging in here on our acre which is much too big for us to care for, but it is paid for and when I look at apartment prices that are constantly going up, I think we can hire help cheaper. If we sold our place, we couldnít afford a house in a good location. I hate that you were so tired after that ordeal. It is amazing how pain zaps our energy levels. *An electric wheelchair would help you and your DH so much!! Pushing someone can really be tiring to you both.

Carol- my oldest sister has struggled with low iron and she has had to have infusions. Her doctor says itís not she doesnít have iron, but her body just doesnít do the right thing with it. She even swallowed a camera that when through her entire digestive system seeking a possible leak. *The restaurant looks so interesting! Thanks for the photo! *I backed into a pole once in a parking garage so now I hate them.

Peggy- one thing I love about the county I live in is that all waste carriers have to provide recycling with the trash service. In fact, if you have more trash than can fit into the rolling bin we push to the curb, you are charged extra, so people really try to recycle in the recycle rolling container that is also by the curb. You can even use an extra green container at no cost for recycling. We donít even have to sort it. I feel blessed every time I visit my sister in Texas and see all her recycling sorted in her garage to take somewhere. *I am so sorry to hear about your DD Catherine. I know she has had so many health issues with this.
