My bike is in the garage as well, but a google search found waterproof bike covers that look pretty good for about 30 bucks, seems like a good investment.

Bikes are pretty hardy, and are designed to be used outside.

Long exposure to direct sunlight is probably the bigger issue in terms of non-metal components like tyres, saddles and handlebar grips/bar tape. Even if it is outside, if the balcony protects it from direct sunlight, then it should last years.

Moisture can get into bearings and the drivetrain, which can be an issue if the bike is used only occasionally. But if you regularly lube the chain, and the bike is used on a regular basis to keep things moving, this is less of an issue.

I guess it is a question of how well your balcony is protected against prevailing weather. If it is more exposed, a cover might be a good idea. (My bike lives in the garage, so I can't recommend any specific cover).

I see there are only 13 groups that say anything about biking. This one is larger, so I came here.

We just got our carpet cleaned. Now my husband insists it has to go on our balcony not by the inside front door.

It's been pretty warm the last few days. I am concerned about it getting brittle, and breaking down, then ruined from rain and moisture later.

Does anyone know of covers that actually WORK ? Thanks.
