Friday I hiked up 'Denny Creek' trail. It was a great trail despite the amount of snow still present. I hope to post a blog with photos of my trip tomorrow.

I also decided during this trip that I'd like to summit Mt. Yale as my first 'Fourteener' at the end of the summer. The trail for Mt. Yale branches off from the Denny Creek trail and can be completed as a long day hike.... Or you can backtrack from the summit and follow another branch of the trail, stretching it into a one or two night trek.

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning to spend several days in Beuna Vista, CO. for a memorial service/family reunion. I'm hoping to get in some hiking while I'm there! Anyone been to that area and have suggestions? It looks like I will have lots of options provided the weather is good!

Brrrrr, our hike was so cold I had to put my gloves on, and then when we were eating lunch it started to snow. It's nice to know that summer is showing up somewhere, not sure when it will head my way!

I think we're going to go back over to Organ Mountians to Baylor Pass tomorrow. It is really windy here, too. Also, it is getting really hot. The last hike we did was so hot. We're going to start earlier, but still it has been hot.

Peace Out,

Oh, and you got morels too? Bonus!

We're going somewhere near Carson City with a local group, short, easy hike, it's going to be a social outing more than a workout, but it'll be nice to get out. I"m hoping the wind dies down some though, it's been blowing the past couple of days.

Did a 6 hour hike in the national forest lands in Michigan. Great hunting for morels, which were in. Carried a backpack. It was a great workout, but man, I was so sore the next day, I could barely move. Can't wait to do it again though. Lived in Oregon for years around Mt. Hood, and stayed in prime shape by hiking every day of the year. I'm excited to be getting back into it, and my husband, who is a tall, bone-thin athlete, is a great partner for it!

Hello! Im new to the group. I have been hiking at Table Rock, SC and plan to make it to the top next year. Round trip it would take 7hrs and so far I have done three hr hikes while carrying a two year old! Im getting a babysitter and replacing the two year old with a backpack full of food and water for the trip to the top, though. I just love being in the woods:) Also, Table Rock has sentimental value because my husband and I were married at the bottom of it and he has hiked to the top every year since then with his friends and father.

Did my first 'warm weather' hike this weekend! After hiking all fall and winter in the cool temps It was quite the change. I took my 3 year old son so it was a very leisurely walk down the Mica Mine trail. We stalled about half way down the trail while he played his very own version of 'Pooh Sticks' in the stream. It's amazing how different the trails look now that the ephemeral streams are flowing, trees are getting green and the flowers are blooming!

The forest is closed to hikers/campers because it has been so dry here. There have been several bad fires around here.

If we get up early we can hike down here in Alamo.

@BloodCovenant: A budget-caused closure? That really sucks! Washington instituted another user fee recently in order to keep trails open. It's a pain, but I don't mind paying to have the trails available.

White Sands is GORGEOUS. I had a friend stationed at Alamagordo a few years ago and went to visit. Visited White Sands and La Crueses (sp). Beautiful areas. I have a soft spot for desert and high dry places having lived in Wyoming for several years. While Washington wetside is beautiful, I really do prefer the drier places. :)

Today I am going to hike one of the close in 'mountains'...about 7 miles I think. Right after yoga class. :) It's only sort-of raining right at the moment.

Oh that sounds so beautiful. I have friends from Washington and they tell how beautiful the hiking was.

Tomorrow we are going to White Sands National Park to hike and fly some kites. It should be fun.

They are closing the forest as of May 12th. Hopefully we'll get one more hike in before they do that. We'll have to travel a little farther for future hikes.

I did a short hike on Old Robe Canyon Trail along the Stillaguamish River on the Mountain Loop Hwy near Granite Falls in Washington State. It's an historic trail to an old townsite then along an abandoned rail line blasted out through Robe Canyon. Nice!

Just got back from a 3 day hike in the Grand Canyon and Red Rock area. It was absolutely gorgeous!! Next hike is a local one to raise awareness for refugees. It will be May 1. It is a hike along an old railroad line that has been made over into a limestone trail for biking and hiking. I hope to see wild flowers and birds along the way.

I trekked along one of my familiar favorites yesterday afternoon. A friend and I hiked up to Independence Monument on the Colorado National Monument - this is fast becoming one of my favorite trails. I had hoped to go hunting for a canyon trail that from I can tell on the maps, you now have to access via a 'backdoor' route off another set of trails, as the original trialhead is now private property. However the weather was a little uncertian with pockets of rain across the valley. I did not want to get caught on an unfamilier trail if the weather turned bad.

Happy Trails!

Newbie here. I live in beautiful Montana so we've got lots of beautiful mountains to scramble around in. I also have some local "hikes" near my house that I've mapped out. I figure I will plan on a 6 miler for this weekend where I can leave from my house and do a big loop through the country. I'll take some water and my pooch who also needs the exercise. When I do something a little more interesting I'll post my experience and put pics on my wall. Happy hiking and glad to be a member!

Last weekend's hike was a hit he loved it other than deciding he needs a better sleeping pad but we ordered one from REI a few days ago so we will be going out again really soon! It was a beautiful hike through some National Forest land near Mt. Cheaha in Alabama. Can't wait to take the kids for some longer hikes on many of the trails in that area!
Had a short hike this evening through a wild life area near the house we explored some of the area we hadn't seen before.
Next hike will most likily be on the Pine Mountain Trail in FDR state park. There are some really great loops. Hubby and I are going to try for a two night hike next time and then start the kids on some over nights with shorter hikes in and out to begin with. Thinking in about a year they will be ready for some real miles with three to five days on the trail!

Better safe than sorry with the thunderstorms, especially if there is a chance of lightening....hope your hubby enjoys the overnight!

Was so looking foward to hiking Blood Mountain in Ga this weekend but thunderstorms kept us at base camp with four kids we decided not to risk it. Guess we will be trying again soon. We did drive up to the gap and got to see a few shake down.
Think we are going to stick closer to home this weekend but it's going to be an adventure it will be my hubbies first overnighter on the trail!!! So this is the first step and soon we will be getting in some longer multi day hikes with the kids. emoticon

That sounds like fun! I love those kind of hikes....seems like the rain and snow will never stop around here, we've been slammed for a week and a half now....but eventually we'll get back outside!
