This is so true Jane. I was so happy I could walk today for your friend.

Since signing up for the ALS walk I have been thinking a lot about my friend Merle Beth and the struggles she faces each day. I sometimes get frustrated because my foot hurts when I run or I gained 2 pounds because I didn't watch my portions or food choices. I think about my good friend who can no longer walk, has great difficulty speaking, and just recently had to have a feeding tube put in because her muscle degeneration has gotten so bad that she cannot chew food any more. Her mind is unaffected, but her body is degenerating out from under her and she is truly powerless to stop it. I pray for her each day and think of the times we have shared over the last 10 years and I cherish every moment.
When I start feeling sorry for myself because I gained a pound, didn't run as fast as I wanted to, or missed a workout, I think of Merle Beth and her struggles and it puts things in perspective for me. We cannot take for granted the control we have over our health.

We choose when and what to eat, when to workout, and how hard we try. Remember that, and when you feel like you are letting things get out of control or you can't do what you need to do, make yourself do it in honor of all those who cannot.

Jane

Gread thread!

Every morning I will get up and chant:

I will put myself first today by not giving in to bad temptations (even by DH). I WILL do some form of exercise even if raising my heart rate is out right now. I can always stretch, do Yoga or Tai Chi or light resistance. I WILL NOT beat myself up if I slip. I will get up and brush myself off.

(By the way...it is GOOD to always get up in the morning! lol)

How true this is Jane and thanks for sharing. It is very easy to put yourself on the back burner and lose your way. I have done this a few times and then I think about all my friends here on Spark and a the support I get will put me right back on track.
So here is my thought and enjoying life more..the dishes need to be done and I need to exercise. I have 45 minutes until bath and bed time for the little one...which one gets done?
I am getting up and moving for at least 20 to 30 minutes, then I will take care of everyone else. You will be happy once that exercise is done first and you actually took the time for yourself.
If your frustrated and irritable so is everyone else.
Take the time for yourself you will be happy you did

Here was my thought for today:

Happy March everyone! Spring is in the air (finally) and hopefully we are done with cold weather and ready to get outside and get active. I hope everyone is staying on track with their healthy food choices and finding time to take care of themselves either through exercise, yoga, meditation, or relaxation.

I know how overwhelming it can be to try to lose weight, take care of the family, work, etc. We are pulled in 100 directions each day and its so easy to put ourselves last on the list of things that need to get done. Of course, we all know what happens to the last items on our lists...they get forgotten. Are you forgetting to take time for yourself?

We are 1/6th of the way through 2010 already!! This is a great time to take inventory of your personal state. How are you feeling? Are you eating healthy, getting enough sleep, exercising the way you want to? Are you making time to relax? Or, are you feeling the pressure to get everything done and along the way doing very little for yourself?

Only you can make the time for yourself. Only you have control over your choices. What can you do this week to make a bit more space for yourself and improve your state?

Think about it and if you want, share with us what you want to do better this week and how you will do it.

Have a great week!!

OK. I had an idea today and thought I would share. We all get caught up in our daily activities and lives and challenges and sometimes we just need a simple reminder or inspiration to help us stay on track. Not a challenge, just a thought that might prompt us to do something a little different, or remind us why we are here and why we wanted to make a change.

Please share your thoughts/inspirations here. Please keep it positive! I will try to share a thought each week, but I would love for others on the team to join in and share a thought or a moment of inspiration.

Jane
