Wow, thanks for all the info . . . good to know! So there is the slight benefit of raising metabolism if I go faster?

I will have to take this all in and think about it. I am really enjoying the "me time" I am getting from my walks. But I feel so guilty when I don't take her with me . . . albeit she's been such a poo-poo nut lately and doesnt always want to go.

Thanks again, everyone, it is soooo nice to have such a great group of spark buddies!

I think it shows more calories burned because you are exercising for a longer time period. The longer you work out the more calories you burn.

It applies to a banana split as well, but I find that eating it quicker ....the ice cream tastes better!! Kidding of course though I do miss them, but I think Jane is correct, you burn the same amount of calories but doing it faster increases your heart rate and is better for your metabolism I read. Better to increase your heart rate let it come down some and spike it again vs. a steady pace the entire walk or run.

According to my Heart Rate Monitor I only burn about 75 calories per mile walking/running. But Heather is right, you will burn about the same amount of calories per mile whether you run or walk, you will just finish sooner if you run.

It doesn't matter how long you take but it is an average of 100 calories a mile, whether you walk or run.

So, I was just inputting my 4 mile walk when John asked me why I wasnt taking Dixie and I told him she would slow me down. So I started to show him how many calories I am burning without Dixie:

4.02 mile route at 63 minutes burns 335 calories

Then I went to show him how many calories I would burn if I took Dixie and she slowed me down to say 90 minutes and it said:

4.02 mile route at 90 minutes burns 341 calories

Then I check 4.02 route at 120 minutes and it said I would burn 350 minutes.

Is this correct? If I walk slower and take longer, I will actually burn more calories than when Im busting my butt to get it done in an hour?

Thanks!
