Oh I'm keeping at it! I'm starting to see the scale move down.. Yippee! I'm even starting to feel a little more energetic during the day with exercising and eating better.
I marvel at my 90-100 year old patients. It seems the key to their longevity (besides good genes) is that they stayed active all of their lives. It seems to have warded off dementia as well as most of them are really pretty sharp! All good incentives to stick with my goals..
Stay dry! It was nasty out there today.. The rest of the week doesn't look too promising either..

As long as you keep at it!! A day off during the week is important, but it's just as important to start back up the next day again!! That 90 year old neighbor of yours knows the best thing to do to keep young - walk! You can do it too!!

Thanks Karen, I will keep an eye out. I really would love to get one of those mini trampolines. I think that would be a fun workout! The problem isn't really so much equipment though as it is having the determination to use it! I really have to want this, and right now.. I do!
I'm fed up with all the excuses I keep making, all the while watching the scale creep up. Every morning on my way to work, I see this 90 year old man out there walking, in all kinds of weather. If he can do it, so can I! He lives right near where my dad used to, and where I spot him is at least a mile from his home. I want to be active like that at 90! For me, I think it is a mental thing. I'm a perfectionist at heart and well, if I do something it's either at 100% or not at all. I really have to get over that! Life sure would be a lot easier, less stressful, and I'd see a lot more success in all areas of my life!

Phoenix - I've been thinking about this off and on all day. SP has a variety of exercises on here where you use a towel to offer resistance. There's a lot of body weight exercises too, which are really good for strength training. And...once the weather gets consistently better, people will start having yard sales, and you might find additional fitness equipment at those for not much money!

LiveDaily-That is an awesome idea. I did walk today twice, although I'm not a huge fan of walking at 3:30 in the morning. And I did walk again after work. I do have hand weights. I will add that in as well. The $30 a month for the gym (I think it's retro fitness), I'll put aside for clothes! I never buy anything for myself. This will be a nice treat. Thanks!

Phoenix - If there's a Planet Fitness near you, I can recommend it. It's very supportive, and has a good environment. BUT...if you have a place near you where you can walk, I'd say keep walking there, and then support that with strength training at home. You can use 1 pint water bottles as hand weights to begin with, and get ideas for exercises from right here on SP. THEN, as an extra incentive, put the money you'd spend on a gym membership into a new clothing fund!!

Welcome back Chris. We can do this, one day at a time :)

LiveDaily- Nothing but work for me. Working overtime. I had a plumbing emergency that cost almost $1400.. *sighs*. Work is still nuts, but I did get a $1 an hour raise.. yippee! Had the day off today. Didn't do much of anything other than laundry and a little decluttering. I just feel a bit fried. Better days are coming!
I am so looking forward to the warmer weather coming this week. Might even entice me to start walking after work! I was thinking of joining a gym. I hate wasting money so maybe that would be an incentive to get on the treadmill or other machines for at least 30 minutes a day. The thing is, I've never been to a gym before and I haven't a clue what clothing to wear! I feel self-conscious just thinking about it!

Hey Chris - welcome back! There's no better day to start than today! Track your food, and see where you need to rein yourself in a bit. Start drinking more water, and substitute water for soda, if you drink that. You can do this!!

Phoenix - I miss seeing you on the chat thread! Hope everything is going well for you, and that you're taking care of yourself, too.

I made a new casserole yesterday, and it was very tasty, but I want to play with it some and see if I can't incorporate some vegetables into the casserole itself. It has a ricotta and mozzarella layer, and I'm thinking of adding spinach to that!

I've been away from the teams for several months now. I started putting on weight again when my Dad got really sick in May and I am now all the way back up to where I was when I started SP. I've put on about 50 pounds and have made several attempts to get back on track with no success.
On Monday I went up to visit my boyfriend and was dismayed to find out I can't make it up the steep stairs at his house. I left earlier than planned and am going to have to lose some serious weight before I can get back up there. I hope this is the incentive I need to finally get back on track!

LEAP DAY???

Im getting ready to leap into some good practices for march.

Im doing realy well at the gym - and working out in general. I walk a few miles each day - and have been doing a pretty decent workout with leg machines and free weights. OK - so no real body changes............... I see some muscle build - but not seeing any fat burning off.
have to make the right changes - and Im not so sure I know what they might be.

I know the hugest component is eating................... so Im kicking off a march moderation challenge......... and that will be all about eating...................
I have to change my workout - since the body gets used to the same exercises even though Ive increased the weights = and reps.

Will be doing some research tonight to determin what the hell Im going to try in March.

I slept in a little bit this morning, then got up and threw on some work out clothes and got on my bike and rode for 91 minutes, and did some arm exercises too. Got off, and stretched out a bit. Getting my sparking done, then will shower and tackle the downstairs. Check mail, make lunch, and do some crafting. Have a great day!

today is a no workout day - so I just took a few mile walk. its kinda cool out there.
I may go to a yoga class later tonight.

Ok so - the craving for sweets has finally left almost. Im using smoothies with chocolate protein powder and that seems to be satisfying the dessert beast. Im making one batch and splitting it in half. One for afternoon snack - and one for evening snack. .

Went up to 17.5 pounds with my overhead weight lifting. hard workout - but after a few exercises I can see some muscles popping and man does that feel cool.

Have also added 2 kinds of squats. one with a 20 pound weight bar on my shoulder and one using a 10 pound weight that you tap to the floor when you squat down. I can feel it in my legs.

Get ready for a moderation in march challenge............ anyone joining me?

who would like to try for June 4th or June 5th? Afternoon BBQ at my house and a walk n the boardwalk at Point Pleasant Beach? I live 2 blocks from the boardwalk.


Yes my scale sucks for sure... saw 146 tonight. Going the wrong direction - but feeling much stronger at the gym. Just went up to 17.5 pound weights for my first set of upper body exercises. getting stronger....................

NJ Jazz- my scale sucks worse! LOL.. You're doing great though, so never mind the stupid scale!
Rather than try and clean up all the areas of my life that need cleaning up, I've decided to concentrate on one.. my eating habits. I'll get to adding in the exercising consistently later on. Today I did very well, meaning I had absolutely no junk today whatsoever. For breakfast I had a bowl of Quaker Oatmeal squares. For lunch I had a banana and a clementine. For snack I had another clementine. Dinner was baked tilapia, baked potato and a cup of fresh carrots cooked. Rather than something chocolate for dessert, I made a baked apple with cinnamon and a little brown sugar. If I need/want something sweet, it will NOT come out of a box or package!
I would love to meet all of you! May sounds like a great time to do it. Just let me know when and where :)

looks like we are starting to get a group together for a get together. Woo hoo...... In happy to start working on some possible dates - and host it at my house. Will throw that out in the next few weeks. Id like to target May - nice month for walking - and the shore traffic is not too crazy then.


I saw 142 on the scale for the first time this morning. Ive been eating the right way...... and it takes very little time to see results when you consistently do that. COnsistency - probably my second least favorite word................. but Im working hard at sticking to it.


Time to walk to the gym and workout.

Hey Jazz, if you guys plan a get-together, I would love to be included if it works out. That pretty much means the weekend. I'd love to see you again.

Phoenix - I think we all struggle with reverting to old habits. I have been doing very well as a whole for the last two months, but today I was struggling and I am not sure why. Having my adult kids around makes it hard, too. Good news is that I normally would drown my sorrows in ice cream, but I had/have no desire to do that at this point. Funny thing is that I seem to have real problems at night. Today my problems were in the afternoon, but tonight I am fine.

Congratulations to all of you!
I don't know what my issue is.. I'm great for a day or two and then back to old habits/excuses. I have been craving sweets/carbs like crazy lately. Having my daughter home for the weekend (even though I worked) didn't help much either! I guess all I can do is keep getting back up on that darn horse every time I fall off.. emoticon

Going to pick up the ingredients for a chicken casserole and a green salad for tonight, and the ingredients to make pasta sauce for later when we get snow/rain. Going to splurge and get REAL Parmesan cheese!

Went back to the gym last week after 2-months off. Made the mistake of lifting too heavy and ended up limping all week....

Tried again today, warmed up proper, lowered weight and pulled my left glute muscle...SMH...

I completed my workout, iced my butt/hip and stretched.

Jazz----The food part is my biggest stumbling block as well. I have had ZERO will power.

Hi everyone! I went out last night to Bahama Breeze with some friends from school. It was SO good to see everyone again! There's usually a big group of us - 10 last night- so we usually order appetizers (they're half price!) to share, and then whatever we want to drink. Lots of talking, laughing, eating and drinking-lots of fun!! At the beginning of February I set a goal of earning 1,000 fitness minutes, and I've already hit that and then some! I LIKE earning that Glow Getter award!! lol So, I'm already thinking about the kinds of goals I want to set for March. Even though I'm up in North Jersey (Montclair), if you give me enough advance notice, I'd love to get together with you guys!!

The next few weeks are busy for me - but I would love to get together with those of you that arent too far away. We can meet for a walk - or you can come to my house for lunch or dinner and we can take a walk on the boardwalk................ sometime in March.

Ok so................ Im doing good with exercising and now really really fighting the urge to snack . Going back to smoothies and mine are pretty low calorie- made with frozen fruit- almond milk and protein powder........

scale now says 144-------------- and Im hoping against hope to see 128.

Happy Friday All. Looking outside I can almost convince myself it will be spring soon! To get in shape I've joined a Sparkpeople 5K challenge. Last spring I attempted my first 5K and didn't quite make the whole thing. Couldn't keep pace with my partners. I was pleased with my effort but this spring I am determined to finish in style. Just walking it first. In the future I'm going to tackle jogging/walking and finally a true run. But for now I'm building up my walking ability. Hope you all are working a plan to get in shape for the nice weather too. Wishing you luck!

rode my bike to the gym - took a one hour yoga class - then did a strength training workout with free weights - stretched - sat in the steam room - and then rode my bike home. Pretty good morning of fitness for me.

Ok so ------ if I could only focus on better eating....................... always a challenge. Im not eating any sweets or desserts - but I guess there is still room for improvement.

wed is always rest day - but Im tempted to go to the gym just because I have the time. Im going to look for a few things to do in the house instead - and honestly let my body rest.

I workout at the gym in front of mirrors.. like most gymns - they are just about everywhere and I use it to watch my form. Was shocked to see some real muscles forming in my upper arms.
Have added squats now - with a 20 or sometimes 30 pound barbell across my shoulders. My legs feel it - but I know I have to start working legs and core. My workout time at the gym has grown from about 25 mins to almost 40. Im getting stronger - and while there is no huge jump out at you difference in my body --------- seeing subtle changes in the right direction. Nothing on the scale. I agree - rather see it in inches any day.

I'm glad you're seeing results from your workouts NJ Jazz. I know from previous experience that when the scale doesn't move, the inches do. To be honest, I'd rather see the inches fade than the scale numbers going down.. Keep with it! You're doing great and are an inspiration for sure!
Well, I got stuck in that torrential downpour while I was driving on the parkway. I couldn't see the front of my car let alone the car in front of me.. It was WICKED! I through on my flashers and just prayed that I'd make it to my destination safely.

Nice dinner with friends and my daughters............... I made a cdessert but didnt have any. Instead had a cup of black cherry tea. Its not the same.mLOL


Ok so ---------------- Im right at 143.................. been there for quite some time whether I stuff myself or eat right..................... have to keep on this path - and make good eating choices.

Ive been doing really great with workouts. I can see muscles in my arm............... legs are a little tighter and I feel stonger................ happy about that

Hope you all enjoyed Valentine's Day.. I worked of course.. LOL. One of my patients and their family invited me to dinner. It was lovely! Her daughter should be a chef. We had salmon with crème fresh, asparagus, and this lovely beet, zucchini and farro salad. It was better than any meal I've had at a restaurant! It was so sweet of them to invite me. They wouldn't take no for an answer! For dessert I brought some lovely pastries and these huge designer cupcakes from Simona's bakery in Sea Girt. They sent me home with one of the cupcakes because I was so full from dinner, I had no room for dessert. I haven't gotten in to it yet, but it looks so decadent!
The roads were a little sloppy but not too bad driving home. The salt trucks were out on the parkway in full force. My town did nothing for this snow. I slid turning onto my street. Thankfully no cars were parked on the street!
Today I made myself walk for 40 minutes.. I am so looking forward to Sunday!

Happy Valentines Day you NJ sparkers.................


Well a few days into sweet and dessert fasting for Lent. hard in the beginning but it gets a bit easier as time goes on. I do it every year................ and I can say with pride - I dont cheat one time.

Yes I do walk in this cold cold weather. Once you are dressed for it - as long as the sun is out - its not bad at all..................... Sometimes your face hurts and then I pull up my scarf over my face........... other than that - Im used to it.

Ok so............... today is my day off for workouts - but I will do some kettlebell stuff because I have those at home.

Doing some cooking - having my kids over tomorrow for dinner - and doing some advance cooking so I can freeze things for them to take home. ENJOY ALL

-1 here this morning!! Brrr..... SO glad I do not have to go out in it!! I went grocery shopping Friday for tonight, and am going to make steak, mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and spinach soufflé!

Good for you NJ Jazz! Did you really walk out there in this frigid weather? I'm too much of a wuss for that.. LOL. I actually saw a few people running today when I was driving to my patients' houses. I thought they were just NUTS! I guess I'm just not made of that sturdy stuff..
Had a grueling day today.. only 7 more days until my next day off.. I will not succumb to pressure to do private duty! I need the day!!
Stay warm all, it's just going to get more miserable out there before it gets better..

I dont know where the willpower is coming from but I think maybe this time since its Lent and I give up all sweets every years (WITH NO CHEATS AT ALL).... maybe will come close to doing it this time....................... eating will be better at least for the next 40 days.

Ok so - working hard at the gym - and walking about 4 miles - both 5 times per week/

Lets hope it warms up............ face freezes out there.

Hi LiveDaily-Oh I bundle up, not to worry! I wear long johns under my scrubs, and have a heavy winter coat, so I'm good. Yes I do get compensated for mileage after I drive the first 30 miles. After that I get .56 cents a mile, so it's almost like getting a bonus in every pay check.
I can't wait till next Sunday.. It will be my first day off since the blizzard! Yippeeee! I hope next week just flies by.. I'm dragging! But... I did walk for 45 minutes today after work.
Congrats NJJazz on not gaining any weight in Florida! I was getting worried that my scale actually went up almost 2 pounds. At first I thought maybe I was gaining because I started exercising and muscle weighs more than fat, (that's happened to me before) but lo and behold, today I got my period.. Ugh! I always put on some water weight the week before. I was praying I would finally start menopause since I've been late, but no dice..Grrrrrr! (Sorry Lester if you're reading this... LOL) .

stepped on the scale when I got home and after eating out way too much ----------- I dint gain one pound. Didnt lose - but proud of myself that I didnt gain either.
Bought a bicycle in florida..................... so at least while Im there I have something to exercise with. And bought an end table.................. at a garage sale that is in the shape of a piano - couldnt resist.

Ok so======== headed out today to food shop. Going to stock up on good things. I have been using smoothies for lunch................... and liking it. I make a bull blender and drink one for lunch and use the leftover for my night time snack. works well for me.
My nex Fla trip is end April. My goal is to be at 135 by then........ which is an 8 pound loss.
If I stay the course I can do it.

I hope everyone is safe and warm tonight! Phoenix - when you go out, make sure you cover your nose and mouth before you go out in that cold air! 71 miles!! Do you get compensated for your mileage?? Rode the bike again today, and started on a new project!
