Yes, we are still sparking! Can't do anything else. No computer at home right now, Looking to get a new one in a couple of months. I was blessed with a free tablet, so I'm not completely out of the water.

Hope all had a Blessed Christmas. Looking forward to an emoticon New Year!!.

Yes, the holidays can be difficult for sure when it comes to eating. I guess the best we can do is to stay on track as much as we can and get fully back on track after they're over. Good for you for dragging yourself to the gym! emoticon

Sorry I haven't been here as often. I've been working nonstop, and will be until Christmas day. I haven't had a day off since last Sunday. I'm exhausted! I finally did put up a small Christmas tree.. I haven't finished Christmas shopping yet. Not sure when that is going to happen. It just might be a last minute quick run to the WaWa for gift cards. emoticon

Going to send a holiday greeting out and hope to stir up a little more team interest.

Will be changing the chat for a new 2016 one.................. Im ready for a new year.

Stopped night time snacking. Went with LiveDailys suggestion about a glass of the fairlife chocolate milk. Higher in proteins and lower in fats - and it seems to calm the beast inside me that wants something sweet to snack on.

While I really dont care what the scale says ----------------- im hoping to see a drop. sounds dumb fight?

Bought a condo in florida.......................... I think Im nuts.

Glad you got your tree up and are on track with going to the gym and walking! Good for you!
My tree is still buried in the basement. Not sure if I'm even going to bother this year.
This weather has been delicious! This weekend I sat on my back deck for an hour in a tank top and jeans and just soaked up the sun.. It was just so lovely!

I think LiveDaily has been busy with moving.. I'm sure she'll be back soon.

Glad you had a great time in Florida!
This warm weather is just lovely! I sat outside on my deck in a tank top and jeans for an hour just grabbing some sun. Doctor says I'm vitamin D deficient and since I'm indoors all day while I'm working I need all the sunshine I can get! It was nice to finally be off on such a lovely day!

back from a wonderful week in Fla. Visited with lots of friends and did some serious real estate shopping for the snowbird years.

Now back to NJ - house is decorated for Xmas except for my tree. I get a real one each year and so wait until a week before the holidays to get it up. It was nice coming home to a clean and decorated house.

Going to chill out today......................... traveling is tiring and I got in at 1 am. Nice sunny day and will take a walk later and get to the gym.
Enjoy the incredible warm NJ weather.

Lol @ banjoes.
Yes, it is amazing how people and animals wait until they're absolutely ready that the time is right. I've seen it happen many times over. Some people even wait until their loved ones leave the room and then pass a minute or two later. Strange indeed!
Tomorrow I will be visiting one of my former patients from my old company. She turns 100 tomorrow! I cleared my schedule for the afternoon so that I can spend time with her. She is such a dear one! Still pretty sharp, great sense of humor. She is my heart! She loves chocolate, so I bought her 100 snack size Hershey bars and a dozen roses. I can't wait to see her!

I can still hear the banjoes.... Yesterday I got the 3rd injection in my knee, so I should be good for about 6 months - yay! It already feels so much better! Today we moved my small desk over, and also the hutch and also all of the Franciscan dishes that lived in it. Tomorrow I will be going through my cabinets and boxing up things to be donated and getting ready to move all of that over.

Isn't it strange/funny/odd how people and animals, too, wait until their loved one is nearby before they pass away?? I've seen it/heard about it too many times. That desire to see someone is stronger than the desire to let go and pass on.

Hey!! You got lights up!! emoticon

I'm laughing at the Beverly Hillbillies comment! I can only imagine!!
As for my car, well, I guess into every life a little rain must fall! I really do enjoy my car. It has served me well, and I'm not ready to get rid of it, nor can I afford to yet. I'll just try to keep it running until it tells me itself its had enough! lol.
The patient that I cared for in the evenings passed away Saturday night. The poor dear hung on until her daughter came. She passed 5 minutes after her daughter arrived. Now I'm back to regular schedule which is good, and that means I should be home by 4pm..
I did have the energy to put up some Christmas lights outside. I have 2 rather large bushes that look almost like Christmas trees. That's where the lights went! Still nothing decorated in the house, but at least I have some lights up! Yippee!

Hi everyone! Incredibly busy weekend working to move my Hoosier Cabinet, and everything that I had stored in it on Saturday. Sunday I packed up my downstairs desk, so that's ready to be moved. This morning we took a very full car load to Goodwill (think Beverly Hillbillies), and that was the second load. I think there will be 1 more load as well. Every morning we will move some part of my apartment over to DH's. This weekend we will have to move my bedroom, as the bulky waste pick up is on the 16th and they want it out the night before. It's like choreographing a dance. One good thing - I made crock pot beef stew on Sunday and it came out really good! I finished knitting all of my cowls that I had made for my SIL and nieces, and wrapped them, too!

Phoenix - that's tough about your car, but it's good that it wasn't the transmission!!

Wow.. You ladies have been busy! I haven't started anything yet. I wanted to put up my tree this weekend, but my boys buried it under a ton of stuff and in an awkward place so I can't even get to it myself. I don't think we will have much of a Christmas this year. My car broke down last night on my way to a patient. I thought it was the transmission because the car suddenly wouldn't drive forward, only in reverse. Had to cancel my patient, and have it towed. Fortunately, the mechanic said it wasn't the transmission (which would have cost anywhere from $2000-$2500) but some oil pipes that feed the transmission. The damage is about $900, which is better than $2000! It just came at a very bad time! *sighs* Hopefully my car will be fixed by tomorrow!

So my dec will be ;
week of the 6th - in Florida
week of the 13th - baking cookies and home made gifts
week of the 20th - decorate the tree
week of the 26th - in Pittsburgh vising my sister.

Ought to be a busy and fun Dec

Well, I did put up the little tree. I had a large lamp there, that I had to figure out a way to pack up. I had a large enough box in the basement, and I wrapped it in a blanket, and put 2 pillows on top of it. The tree is prelit, all white lights, which is different for me, but I like it. And all of the ornaments are pink and gold, or pink and silver, or glass. Very pretty! I also polished up the menorah. My DH is a non observant person of the Jewish faith, but when we were first married, he asked me if I wanted a menorah, and I did. We picked it out together, and I really love it. It's in the shape of a tree. So it's all ready for Sunday night. I'll make beef stew and we'll light the candles. Made my list of presents - still need to get a couple of things and then wrap everything. I finished knitting all of the cowls, so now all I need to do is finish knitting up the scrubbies. I found that rough textured yarn that you can use to knit or crochet scrubbies, for doing dishes with? It's bright red, takes no time at all, and is perfect as a stocking stuffer!

Still in packing and moving mode, but I'd really like to put up a little tree. Plus am leaving Dec. 20 to go to my brother's for Christmas, but I still want a little tree of my own - *sigh*. Going to make Chex Mix and 2 different kinds of cookies to take down with me too. Presents are boxed up, for the most part, but I still need to wrap. Still need to buy 2 more presents.

while my kids were here for thanksigivng they helped me bring all the boxes of decorations out of the attic. Didnt realize how much I have accumulated over the years. so many of my decorations are 30+ years old. and I still love them. I went through everything yesterday and put out all my real favorites..................... Im downsizing................ so have saved what Im not using for the kids to go through now that they each have their own places.............
Wont put my tree up until a week before Xmas. I have NEVER had an aritificial tree and Im not starting now........... so it only goes up a week before - and its generally taken down a day or so after New Year.

Love the house decorated....................... especially lighting up my front porch Ive downsized even outside..................... but its really pretty and kind of simple.

A fun time of the year.................... and only a little mmore shopping to do.

I survived Thanksgiving...twice! The first one was on Thanksgiving Day with my good friend Sarah (yum!). Had leftovers on Friday (yum!). The second one was on Saturday with DH (he had to work Thursday night). Had leftovers last night as well (yum!). Sent food home with Sarah and DH,, and still have turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, and sweet potatoes left over. I'll add some mixed vegetables to all of that for dinner tonight. I don't think I'll ever roast another whole turkey - doing just the breast was SO easy and tasty! The best part of all of this eating? I didn't go over my nutritional numbers at all!! Woo hoo!

When we were little, my mother bought 4 Christmas ornaments each year: 1 for the family tree, and 1 for each of us (the kids). When we were all old, moved out and living on our own, we each got a box of our ornaments. I still have my very first ornament from my first Christmas! When my Mom passed away, my sister divided her ornaments into 3 equal amounts, and we each got those. I have glass beads that belonged to my great grandmother, and ornaments that belonged to my grandparents. I could never bear to part with any of that. This year I'll be traveling, but I'll still put up a little tree. Have to make it Christmas every where I go!!

Live Daily - never heard of that milk but will look for it and try it. May be what I need to help my night time munchies.

Does anyone else buy Fairlife milk? I switched over to it after reading up on it. Their milk is ultra filtered, and is higher in protein and lower in carbs than other milks. I bought a container of their chocolate milk, thinking to kill 2 birds with 1 stone: it's chocolate (yay!), and there's protein (yay!). When I'm feeling a little "snackish" at night, I make myself a mug of decaf hot tea, and pour myself 6-8 ounces of the chocolate milk and SIP it while my tea gets cool enough to drink. SO yummy!!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and their families!!

Welcome back LiveDaily :) Those mushrooms sure sound delicious! I'll have to try them! Oh and the results came back from my blood work. I am vitamin D deficient. My doctor suggested I take D3. I did a quick read on it and found out I should take vitamin K2 with the D. It can only help!

NJ Jazz- For me, it's the complete opposite. I have my eating down pretty good, it's the exercising that I haven't made a habit yet. I'm so tired when I get home from work, and at work I'm constantly turning or lifting patients. It can get pretty physical! I know, it's an excuse, and one that is hindering my progress. The only exercise I really enjoy doing is walking or hula hooping. I really do need to make it a point to do something every day. Maybe I'd have more energy!

Sorry I've been absent - it's been a super busy few days. Garage sale Saturday and Sunday, and I had a knee injection yesterday. Glad to hear you are doing so well Jazz!

The mushrooms lol I buy the cheapest canned mushrooms, several cans, I can find, sliced or pieces, dice up a small onion, and about a half stick of butter. In a medium saucepan, put the butter and melt it, add onion and saute until a little soft, then dump all the mushrooms and their juices in the pot. Add a little garlic powder and cracked black pepper, set it on real low heat and just let it simmer. Stir it when you think of it. If it looks a little dry, add a little more butter to it. That's it. SO good with everything else on the table!

what a grea Thsnksbiving meal you have planned out.

I have my daughters and my Mom coming for dinner and to spend an overnight. My menu will be
turkey breast - pan stuffing made with sausage spinach apple and pinnoli nuts, baked yams, two vegetables, cranberry sauce, gravy, Two desserts and a few appetizers. I may add a small tray of stuffed shells.....
I guess thats all pretty much traditional.

Bit of a gloomy weather day today................ walked to the gym - worked out and walked home. that felt so normal and good.

Going to change my living room curtains today to a bit heavier curtain......... better get working.

enjoy the day all

That all sounds so good! I usually do a whole turkey with sausage stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, with cheese sauce on the side, asparagus, pumpkin pie, blueberry pie, coconut cream pie, and a chocolate cream pie. It all depends on who will be around for dinner. This year my boys are going to visit their grandmother in PA. She is their only grandparent that is still alive. My daughter will probably go to her boyfriend's house. I have to work until 6 the night before Thanksgiving and have to work the day after. I'll probably do most of the pie baking/making on Thanksgiving day, make the stuffing, and will more than likely celebrate Thanksgiving on the weekend when the kids and their friends are around. I'd just be happy with the stuffing, veggies and pumpkin pie, but everyone has their favorites!
What kind of mushrooms do you make?
Glad you're feeling better NJ Jazz :)

Soup came out good! 8 quarts of it: 2 in freezer, 3 in my refrigerator, and 3 in DH's refrigerator. Started thinking about Thanksgiving Day menu. I cook, will have a friend over, and leftovers for DH (he has to work that afternoon/night). Fairly sure I will do a turkey breast, as no one likes dark meat (might even do 2 of them). Mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, corn pudding bake, mushrooms, Brussel sprouts (any cooking ideas for these?), cranberry sauce, creamed spinach, maybe sweet potatoes, maybe not. Thinking about "cheating" and getting the creamed spinach from King's because it is so darn good, and their turkey gravy, because my gravy sucks lol . What do you cook for Thanksgiving?

Oh that is a wonderful idea! I have a few "crafty" friends. I'll see if any of them would be up for the challenge. I'd love to be able to pass something so sweet as that down to my future grandchildren!

That soup sounds good! I'm not too pleased with the upcoming weather reports. I've gotten a little spoiled by this warmish weather!

Oh! I know exactly what you should do with your Mom's coat!! My DH used to wear a navy pea coat in college. My BIL's Mother used to make bears out of old coats, so we packed it off to her, and she made TWO adorable dark blue bears, and she even used the buttons from off the coat as buttons for the bears! There HAS to be a sewer/crafter in your area that can do the same!!

I roasted a chicken last night for dinner, and afterwards took as much meat as I could off the bones, then put the carcass in a big pot along with 2 small onions, halved, a bay leaf, and a small handful of black pepper corns, and covered it all with water. Simmered for a couple of hours. Today, took all the meat off the bones (there was still a lot, at least 2 cups worth!), and will make a hearty chicken - veggie soup with okra, carrots, corn, lima beans, butternut squash, tomatoes, and potatoes in it. The weather is beautiful today, but it's supposed to get cooler and rainy again.

Garage sale is all set for this weekend!!

My first day was great! It's what hospice should be. With this new company I get to spend a lot more time with my patients. Today I worked an 11 hour shift and saw 5 clients in 3 different places. With my old company, I could see 5 clients at 3 different places and still not work a full 8 hour day! It's a lot less stressful and I actually feel like I am doing my job well, because I get to care for my patients the way I know they need to be taken care of.
I probably won't get the results back from my blood tests until sometime next week. I wouldn't doubt that I'm Vit D deficient. I do get exposed to quite a bit in the nursing homes, but still, I should be able to fight it off!
I'm so glad your stress test came back fine. I hope the echo comes back fine too.
Sounds like you have a good system going for you. I need to do the same. I have so many things from my parents and just life in general that I need to go through. I like the "awww".. aspect of your system. I have a lot of memories/emotions attached to some of the stuff. I still have my mom's coat that I know I will never wear, and it's in great condition. I know someone would enjoy having it, but just because it belongs to my mom, I'm having a hard time letting go of it as well as a lot of other things. I know in time I will be able to part with some of the things. She's been gone since 2007, my dad since 2011. But for right now, it's a little tough for me..

Got the results of the stress test - everything okay. Still waiting to hear about the echocardiogram.

A good friend came over today, and she, DH, and I carted more garbage out of the basement and boxes to the garage. I have more boxes to go to the garage that I sorted through tonight. I have "rules" for throwing stuff out: if I haven't looked at it or for it in 5 years, out it goes. If I look at it and I go "awww..." then I put it aside. When I look at it again after a couple of hours, and it still makes me go "awww...", then I'll keep it. If it doesn't, out it goes. I put things in piles: to donate, to regift, to give away, to throw out. I already donated a lot of extra towels to my vet. I'm desperately trying to find a home for stuffed animals. No one seems to want them.

Phoenix - my doctor also had me tested for Vitamin D deficiency, and I was. For the longest time, I took 1 cap once a day. Talking to a couple of teacher friends, they both told me that they take 3 or 4 a day (which seems like an awful lot to me), but they both have high stress jobs and are very seldom sick, so I bumped my dosage up to 2 a day, one in the morning and 1 at night. Hope your blood work doesn't have any nasty surprises. How was your first day on the new job??

LiveDaily- My, you've been quite busy! I hope all of your tests come back with great results!
It must be test time.. Yesterday I went to my new job and got a PPD. Today I went to LabCorp and got a comprehensive blood test. My doctor thinks my vitamin D might be low, and I might be anemic, which could account for my recent bout of ailments and fatigue. My health coverage ends at the end of the month so I have to get a few more things done in the next couple of weeks like a dental and eye exam.
Oh, and good news! My new company wants me to start work TOMORROW.. Yippee! I wasn't supposed to start until Tuesday, but they were short handed for this weekend and I am very grateful for the hours!
Enjoy the weekend all.. and get some rest!

Wednesday I spent the day carrying garbage bags up and out of the basement, and then taking them to the dumpster. More to do. Thursday I rested. Today was an echocardiogram and a nuclear stress test. I was in the office for 4 hours. I'm still tired!! I DID make that recipe though: Unstuffed Stuffed Cabbage. Going to have it with mashed potatoes tonight. I don't know why the sodium is so high. I used no salt tomatoes and no sodium chicken stock... Extra lean ground beef - very yummy. Going to roast a chicken tomorrow with lemon and rosemary!

Today was my last day at my company. I start my new job on Tuesday. I was hoping to start this weekend, but my start was delayed because it was discovered that I needed a second PPD, which I got today.
I didn't feel sad at all about leaving. They really didn't seem to care. The people at my new company are so different. They're warm, inviting, and actually seem to care not only about their patients, but their employees as well. I'm really excited to start working for them!
Hope you all enjoyed the day as overcast and rainy as it was today.

Good job Jazz! Try not to "worry" it - keep those fingernails away from it! Always good to have a full body exam. Enjoy the rainy day, curl up with a book!

Well, the craft show was fun! Talked to many interesting people. Made more money than what I started out with (yay!), but didn't do as well as I had hoped. We'll see how it goes.

Rainy day here today too - soup weather!

Scalp is sore - some yucky gel is on the stitches............... c ant wash my hair for 2 days - and no gym for a week........................ Dr says he removed everything and all should be ok.

Hmm.................go back in 2 weeks to get the stitches out - and for a full body exam.
Also scheduled a follow up with an oncologist................... which is overkill but i rather be safe than sorry.

Rainy day - so Im thinking Im going to rest alot today - and do some baking to test a few recipes Ive been wanting to try.

Live Daily-The protein bars are a good idea. I just have to watch with ingredients because some foods give me migraines. I don't know what's in them but rice cakes and most dark chocolates are a trigger so I avoid them at all costs! I'm looking forward to the recipe :)

NJ Jazz- I was thinking that was a bit of an odd place for the skin cancer to show up, more so now since you said you wear a hat when outside. I wonder if you had an over-exposure at some point as a child?

Hope you all enjoy the weekend!

LiveDaily - the Mohs procedure is exactly what they are doing............happy to hear you went through it successfully. Not sure yet if I will get stiches or they will use that skin glue. I always wear a baseball cap in the summer.................but hardly ever use sunscreen anywhere else. Guess thats changing. I was shocked of all places this thing showed up on my scalp since i do wear a cap and everywhere else is so exposed.

Did some smart food shopping yesterday............... refrigerator looks healthy.

Enjoy the weekend all..........

Had left over Auntie Jo's Special with a small sweet potato for dinner last night. "Baked" the sweet potato in the microwave, and it only took 6 minutes! lol I'll be sure to post the recipe for the deconstructed cabbage rolls once I make them! Phoenix - have you tried protein bars as a swap for the peanut butter? My sister likes the Quest bars; I like the Pure Protein bars. That, and some baby carrots and an apple and water make a great lunch!

Doing a craft show this weekend in Montclair - selling my button people and pins!

NJ Jazz-I know the word cancer is scary, but try to stay positive! You are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure it will all go well.

LiveDaily- I so know what you mean about changing things up. For almost 2 years I have eaten peanut butter every day for lunch only because it was fast, convenient, and wouldn't spoil in my car. There are some days where I wouldn't even have time for lunch so eating while driving was necessary. I'm not a huge lunch meat eater, and salads can't be eaten while driving! I do bring an insulated lunch bag with me every day, and I put frozen water bottles in the bag just to keep my banana and other fruit cool. Plus, on a 90 degree day, they are so refreshing! If I'm not eating while driving, I eat lunch in a parking lot somewhere. The thing is, I really can't even plan for lunch because I'm never sure if I will actually get to take one! I absolutely hate soggy bread too! So I'm stuck with peanut butter until I figure out another solution. BTW, the deconstructed cabbage rolls sound delicious! You'll have to post the recipe!

Jazz - on a visit to my dermatologist back in August, he took a biopsy of a spot on my calf that came back as melanoma. Their office has a Moh's microscope, so they can do the removal in office, check it through Mohs to see if they need to either remove more or go deeper. It's cutting edge. Thankfully, I didn't need stitches, and the area has healed really well. I imagine, after years of being in the sun down the shore - did you always wear a hat? - it does take it's toll. Hope all goes well for you.

Phoenix - if anything, I hate to eat the same foods all the time. That being said, I do like my breakfast protein shake, but lunch and dinner beg for more lol I am a recipe collector from the paper, magazines, online, tv shows. Currently in the queue are a recipe for unstructured cabbage rolls (love stuffed cabbage, but not the work!) and a recipe for shephard's pie with white and sweet potatoes as the topping.

And here I thought I was so healthy...................... eating somewhat right - exercising - growing my vegetables............... yadda yadda yadda ..........

Doing some yardwork at my Moms today. nice day to be outside and it will be good for her to be outside also.

Oh that sounds so yummy! I will definitely have to try that recipe! I feel like I'm always eating the same things over and over for dinner. I need to step out of my zone... lol.

I got my physical today finally! The doctor was happy to see me not sick for a change! She seemed to be doing ok as this was her first day back to work since her husband passed away over a month ago. I feel bad for her. It is going to be a huge adjustment..

I think I saw on tv last night that you can donate unused Halloween candy to the armed services.

I got involved with cleaning out my desk and a filing cabinet, that the afternoon just zipped by. Next thing I knew it was 8:00 pm, and I was hungry! Went downstairs and put the ground beef on to brown(it was really meatloaf mix 1.5 lb. -what I had), diced up half of a large yellow onion, drained the beef, added 1 Tbsp. of butter and the onion, seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and worchestershire sauce, squeezed all the liquid out of the defrosted spinach, added that, scrambled 6 eggs, added those, topped everything off with 5 slices of sharp cheddar cheese, and scrambled everything together. I was sitting down and eating before 8:30. So good, easy, plus I have leftovers!!

Wow.. no trick or treaters? I think I will forgo the candy-buying next year as well.
That Auntie Jo's special sounds delicious! What if anything do you season the ground beef with? I'll have to try that some time!

So many places nowadays have restrictions on what KIND of candy you can donate. I didn't get any trick or treaters this year, and none last year either. I think next year, I'm going to do what Jazz did, and give out nickels!!

Made meat loaf with mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner last night. Tonight it'll be Auntie Jo's Special: ground beef, spinach, and cheese all scrambled into eggs! Yum!!

I hope you all enjoyed yesterday's tricks and treats! emoticon We didn't have too many trick or treaters. I thought we'd have much more given that it was a Saturday. So now I have this nice big bowl of candy. I tried buying candy that I wouldn't be too tempted to snack on. Ha! Apparently I don't mind snacking on any kind of candy! I sampled the Milk duds (which don't taste as good as I remembered), Whoppers (still kind of taste the same but are much smaller now) and Crabby Patties that my kids used to beg me to buy them when they were smaller. The Crabby Patties actually weren't that bad, and were a huge hit with the trick or treaters. They dug through the bowl to find them but unfortunately left 2 of them for me to try.. darn! I did however stay away from the M&M's. I know if I started on those, I wouldn't stop! Anyone have any ideas where I can donate the rest of this candy? Lol..

Jazz - do you have fruit in a bowl? Potatoes or onions in a bin?

Phoenix - I know you will miss your patients, but you are doing the right thing!

Going out for dinner later with friends!

Well, I handed in my notice. I did exactly what I did not want to do, I got teary. I'm going to miss the patients I work with. Some I have gotten particularly close to, but I need to support my family.
We had rain, but nothing like you guys had. It rained for a bit this afternoon as well, just a short drive-by shower, but for the most part sunny.
How did I miss chocolate day?
NJ Jazz- I had a problem with fruit flies. I made a catcher by putting a little bit of wine in an old jar, covering it with plastic wrap and poking a few small holes in it. The fruit flies get in, but they can't get out. I'm not sure if it would work for gnats though. I'm sure if you google homemade gnat catcher, you'll find something. I hope you find out where they are coming from!
