Just spent the day at the Turtle Back Zoo with my daughter & 2 grandsons. What a beautiful day we picked to go - overcast, not too warm, really just right. And the scenery was gorgeous with the zoo being built into a mountain & the leaves turned a little. I had never been there before but was quite impressed & will look forward to going again. I also racked up lots of walking time!

Hated to see summer go this month.

Celebrated my DH's 60th birthday, right after Labor Day. Took him out for lunch and dinner at O'Loone's. He won almost $3,000 at the OTB there, over $200 on the lottery the next day and. $500 on a scratch-off the following day. I was so happy for him because he was so down about hitting the big 6-0. But that's enough gambling for a while, even though it was fun to see him win.

so excited to be going to a wedding tomorrow. a very fancy one. Just will enjoy dressing up - something I dont get to do too often.
Supposed to be a beautiful day..........

Scale is being kind and Ive been eating properly. Starting a zumba - weight and cardio program. Home grown............... so it should be interesting.

Gearing myself up for a 3 mile run, it is so cold! I am very sore from my half marathon trail race on Sunday! It was very hilly, rocky, and muddy and it really kicked my butt!

ohno! Feel better soon!
Today I went to New Hope to run a 5K. It was the perfect day for it, we got a medal and a long sleeved tech tee, and they had all kinds of food and wine afterwards. Very fun morning!
Then the hubs and I rode to the Seafood Fest in Point Beach. It was crazy nuts, though. Too many people, so we didn't stay long. Very few locals were there, mostly tourists, and not the polite kind!

so sorry I missed the bike event today. Came home from Fla and now have an awful end summer cold. Feels like a cinderblock on my chest................. Taking a bunch of stuff to decongest .

How fun!
Yesterday I did an 8 mile ride to the inlet and back (long way around lol) and finally ran a bit last night, just under a mile, to test the knee. No aches during or after, which I am hoping is a good sign!
Today is an errand day, and I am stalling lol

I can totally relate!! I have an 18 month old, and the minute I sit on the floor to stretch, do crunches or pushups (yes I do the girlie ones lol) she thinks I am her personal jungle gym and she climbs all over me. I need a better plan lol.

Those challenges sound like fun! I try and do the chair exercises every day; I've put off my hip replacement twice and am in no condition to work out properly... but hopefully it'll hold up 'til next year when my kid can go to school 1/2 day & I can go get my new hip! Every pound I lose helps! Wait, that wall sit one sounds good... is there a team for those?

Thank you LobsterGrl (I may have spelled that wrong!) I am hoping to rest it today, so that it gets better! I just signed up for a 5K next weekend, the day before my Half! It is in New Hope and they medal is a wine cork. SO cool!
I do calendar challenges, where each day you are assigned exercises for a specific body part. I do them at night while I watch my shows. This month I chose an arms one, 2 abs, and a wall sit challenge.

Today I managed to do 50 situps while my kid played on the floor... trying to fit in exercise when & where I can, but it's not easy with a 2-year-old! But I'm trying... emoticon

My knee is sore and my calf is tight from that darn hilly race in Brielle, but I managed 3 miles today. I rode my bike for all of errands yesterday, and today I will be walking, because the USPS and dry cleaners are less than half a mile away. Bummed about the rain coming, but we need it, so I guess it is okay.
Still deciding on whether to do the Run for the Arts in Ocean Grove this weekend. If my knee still aches I will not register. I have a Trail Half Marathon in Philly next weekend, so I want to be in good shape for that!

looks like the next few days will be rainy. Lots to do inside = as I move summer clothes out and move fall and some sweatshirts in. Going thru clothes and donating things I dont wear. Its good to get rid of un necessary things.

We are going next month for the Half Marathon, I cannot wait!
Today was the Brielle Day 10K, and I beat last year's time by almost 7 minutes! Woohoo!
It was the perfect day! We also sat at the Bay beach for about an hour and a half and read, soooo relaxing!

added and extra blanket for sleeping.......... love the windows open but it actually got chilly last night. How does nature know that the season is over???? It seems to have gotten chilly all of a sudden................... swimmng is done for the summer season.

Sept is great beach weather............... I love watching the ocean on days like this.

Kimmie - that is so wonderful to be coaching scouts to become runners. Great thing.

I spent yesterday at the shore............... working on putting the house back together. I cannot wait to move back in. Selling the house up north - so my guess is I can move in by spring and not be a Bennie anymore.

I ran 10 miles today at the Brick Reservoir. It was crazy gloomy out, and i worried the whole time that it would start to rain! Thursday night I go to Rumson to get trained as a Girls on the Run coach, so that I can coach Girl Scouts to become runners!

looks like cooler weather is coming.................... someone told me thurs night is going down to 40 degrees. I find that hard to believe.............


Im working hard at getting back into my home in Point. Almost done............ and I love everything about the renovated home. Im happy about that.

Im doing better eating properly and today cleaning out my shed at the shore was a real workout.

I'm also looking forward to the cooler (and drier!) weather! This humidity is kicking my butt. AND... soup, you say? That's so great that your son wants to cook! My baby is 2 and in that "I'll only eat 7 things" stage...
Ever try roasted rutabaga soup? I make the chicken stock, then peel, chop & roast a large rutabaga & about 2-3 carrots & 1 potato... about 30-40 min. in a 350 oven... then strain stock, add roasted veggies, & blend with a hand blender... AMAZING. And super good for you! emoticon

We love making chicken soup in the Fall and Winter. We had a whole chicken last night and my son even asked if we could make the soup today lol. We told him to wait until it got a bit colder. We actually had chicken soup twice during Sandy! We had one carcass waiting in the freezer and had a whole chicken that we got 2 dinners out of. YUM!

With the cooler weather I plan to do a lot more walking in my neighborhood. Also rejoined the gym. Am also looking forward to cooking healthy fall soups for those cooler nights.

I have joined some great calendar challenges for the month of September! I find these to be highly motivating. There is something about crossing off each day as you complete it! I found one for arms, 2 for abs, and one for Wall sits. They only take a few minutes per day, and you can do them while you watch TV.
I also look forward to TV workouts! These are fun and my teenie usually joins me. Google your fave TV show or movie + workout. Biggest Loser is a fun one, we also like Pretty Little Liars. and Harry Potter. They work like drinking games. Every time someone says something particular, something happens, someone cries, etc you do an exercise. It can be exhausting. Here is an example:
Biggest Loser:
Every time Bob talks about feelings, do 20 crunches
Every time someone yells, do a 20 second plank
Every time Allison throws in a twist, do 20 lunges

You can make up your own, or find one on the internet. Pinterest is also a good place to find these!
