hey. I'm Meegie over on Glitter. I'm still trying to figure this whole spark-thing out. I really have been eating like crap lately, and I am a bit overweight for my height (short!). So yeah, I'd love to lose some weight, but I think that health is my main concern.

I'm also d_oubt on Glitter

Seeing the thread in La Vida Crafty "sparked" me to get on here.

When I was in grad school, I had a flexible schedule and used to go to lots of exercise classes (yoga, strength training, step) as well as bike for fun.

Now that I work somewhere that doesn't have the same free available classes, I stopped working out. Now I don't like what I see in the mirror.

I'm hoping this will give the kick in the pants I need.

Yo.

I was doing alright - and then I discovered what it truly means to be an 'emotional eater'. I gained about 10-15 pounds since October & now I'm back on the wagon - full force!

I'm basically following Weight Watchers point system, but not going to the meetings - just using the stuff I got from them the last time I joined up.

My first goal is to lose about 20 pounds which will put me at the weight where I feel *okay* about myself. Then I'll work on getting to the weight where I feel *awesome* about myself.

Same name here and there, IRL I'm Blythe.

I just want to lose 10-12 lbs to be able to easily fit in my jeans, and where whatever shirt I want, and to just feel normal.

I've actually never tried this site before, so hopefully I can commit to something for once!

I'm Heather and I'm back after a 9 month hiatus -- yep, I just had a baby! I lost 30 lbs last year (in 5 months) using this site. Now I'm 20 lbs up from where I left off (hoping some more of the pregnancy weight will come off easily...), so I'm back to the grindstone.

Hi, I am hoppy there, hoppyfrog here. If I don't take control, it is literally going to kill me. So I have decided to take all the help I can get, including support from the fab ladies of glitter. I have been excited about it but now I am scared, know I am afraid of failing. Have to make a lifelong change, have never been successful before. Feeling icky.

Hi,

I did this a couple of years ago and didn't lose much. Struggled with my weight really as long as I can remember and it gets so frustrating, so I thought it would be nice to have some familiar 'faces' around.

I want to start eating healthier and being more active in the new year. I wasn't really sure how to start, but being able to calculate the value of my food intake and exercise really appeals to me! I've just joined the site today, so I'm still learning how everything works. It's nice to know that all of you are doing this too!

I have been on the up and down weight roller coaster for about 5 years now, and I feel that 2008 is the year where I reach my goal weight and stay there for good! I will post my "stats" after I weigh myself tomorrow--first day back at the gym in a very long time!

Hi! I'm supernova_green all over the place. I'm here because I lost a lot of weight over the last 2 or 3 years, but I've been sitting at my current weight for almost a year, and I'd like to kick start the losing again.
I'm hoping that I stick around sparkpeople for a while, I used to have an account over at fitday, but it never seemed to work the way I wanted it to.

Howdy. I'm Nikki, aka sobriquet on Glitter. I'm here cause the only time I was ever happy with my body was when I was only eating twice a week. I stopped that nonsense a couple years ago and have gained 40-50 lbs since then. It's gotten out of control lately and I'm over it.

I'd like to go the healthy, safe, non-drug-induced route this time. :)

Well, I'm back. Again. (for anyone that doesn't know, I'm Madelyn...ruggedchick on Glitter.)

I think this time I am NOT going to use the tool that keeps track of fat/calories...the nutrition tracker. That's always what makes me leave Sparkpeople for awhile. I see that I screwed up for a few days, and just completely lose all motivation. So, screw that. This time I'm concentrating on exercising, just eating sensibly, and getting support from you fine ladies!

I figure I should introduce myself properly . . .
I'm creativecat on Glitter. I was waiting tables for awhile which seemed to keep me in OK shape. Since I've been working a desk-job for a couple months, my exercise amount has dwindled to almost nothing. I decided to do something about before it became a problem so I started taking a few exercise classes: kickboxing and belly dance. Those have been great, but since they're only a few times a week, I didn't feel like I was getting enough exercise so I joined a gym recently. I also thought a gym would be more social than working out at home.

At my complimentary personal trainer session, I found out I'm not in as good of shape as I thought. I don't need to lose any weight, but my BMI is above the normal range. The trainer recommended a routine of mostly strength-training with a little cardio and stretching.

Being concerned about my health in general since I'm getting closer and closer to 30, I decided to monitor my diet too. I've always had a fairly healthy diet, but I can see there's a few changes I need to make.

Hi Morgan...I'm making friends with my crock pot. There are so many healthy and low fat recipes that are very easy in the crock pot. I'm trying to make something each weekend that can be frozen for lunches and quick meals during the week. This weekend I made veggie 3 bean chili. I make really yummy "shreddy" chicken for tacos in the crock pot too. We should share recipes. I also recommend weight watchers cookbooks. the recipes are generally very quick and easy and tasty.

Hello! I'm Morgan from Glitter! I think I said hello when I first joined this group on here, months ago, then never logged in again. I just started working out again, so I decided to check in here. It's cool that there are so many of us!!
I would like to lose some weight, but I just want to be healthy mostly. I don't know how much I weigh (& I'm a bit scared to find out!), and I don't really have a goal weight in mind, either.
Working out is going pretty well (uh, for the week I've been doing it...), but eating is a bit hit and miss. I try to plan out healthy menus, but the boyfriend doesn't help at all with cooking, really (it's a MAJOR source of fighting between us), and sometimes I'm just too tired to make something healthy when I get home from work. Blah! Plus I am usually at a loss to think of something to bring for lunch. I need more lunch ideas!!
I'm about to go check out the recipes on here, too. & maybe post another thread about meals...
Anyhow, hello everyone!

Hello, I'm IrmaVep on G*, but that name was already taken here (probably by me, I had some probs signing up).

When I turned 29 I told myself I wasn't going to be fat* at 30. Over about 8 months I lost 7 kg (not heaps, but I wanted to do it slow so it would stay off). I kept it off for about 6 months, and then it crept back on again over the last couple of years, so by my 32nd birthday I was back up where I was at 29. Then in the last couple of months I put on another couple of kilos.

I've been feeling pretty low for some time (lots of family health problems, spilling over and causing me to over-react to work stress). And hubby isn't so happy about the squigey regions reappearing. So it's time for them to go.

I have been on holiday for the last week, and I've yet to stand on my home scales, but I think I've dropped 1.5-2 kg, so if that's the case, I'm pretty happy, but I want to get back to 58, so still 7-8 to go - hopefully by Christmas, I want a hot bod for summer!

loomis, do you happen to take depakote as your anti-seizure? I gained 20lbs the first month on it and 20lbs the second month on it. I'm only 5'3" so I went from a petite 125 to 165 seemingly overnight!

do you have the possiblity of changing anti-seizure drugs? i'm now on zonegran and it is a mild appetite suppressent. so is topomax.

Hey everyone!

I just joined the group yesterday after going to the doctor the other day where they weighed me. I am now officially 200 pounds (I am 5'11"). It (the weight gain) feels like it has happened so fast and that it will never stop. I have gained 50 lbs in a year and 25 lbs of it since May, none of my clothes fit me right and I hate the way I feel. I have a lot of weird circumstances healthwise that may or may not be contributing to my weight gain...early menopause, atypical depression, medications for those conditions (anti depressant, anti-seizure medication, bcp to control my hormones) and stress/depression due to adoption stuff. I know I binge eat due to the depression and stress and I need to get some kind of control over it all. I am getting to the point where I dont want to see people who know me b/c I am embarassed by all of my weight gain. Anyhow, I am joining the Y next week and I have recently changed my diet to a pescitarian diet with little intake of eggs or dairy which I am hoping will help. My goal is to lose 50 lbs so that I feel like the mom I want to be to my baby daughter by the time I get her.

I am moonunit 55 on g*. I started sparking in January of this year and from january to may I lost 17 pounds putting me at 134 which was my lowest in years. Then I went to Italy for 6 weeks this summer, missed my husband, started eating a lot to compensate and gained 10 pounds in that time period. Since I got back 7 weeks ago I am back down and only 1.5 pounds away from my initial low.

Right now I actually feel pretty good. I've been going to the gym and doing a lot of lifting and I am starting to get cut again (in the girlie way that I get cut). I was running previous to Rome and thinking about doing a 5K this fall but I wrecked my knees and feet this summer and I have to wait to get new running shoes before I do any more damage.

My goal right now is just to hit 134 again. Really, all my clothing fits nicely and any more weight gone and I will have to buy all news jeans. I know this sounds great but I am a poor law student and that's just not in the budget. I am focusing on generally watching what I eat, working out a lot and getting as fit as possible. I track food on occasion but I am using sparkpeople less and less and getting busier and busier so I am not around as much. That doesn't mean I love you guys any less though!

Hey all - greenie from glitter here!
I'm joining up as incentive on my weight loss attempt. This is my first serious, no-joke go at it. My husband lost a lot of weight last year and is extremely supportive of it, and sort of doing it with me, so that is the biggest help. I am curvy by nature...but absolutely became overweight over the last year and I am sick of it. I'm scared that we'll get ready to start a family and I'll never regain my health. I really want to fix it NOW!

Right now I'm using sparkpeople mostly to track my daily nutrition. That is my first goal, is getting my eating habits on track. I did our first big weight-conscious shopping trip/meal planning yesterday. I literally dropped a pound just over the weekend so I am extremely optimistic at this point....but scared. I really want to find the willpower to stick to this!

Here's my long story:

I'm naturally a petite small-framed but slightly curvy gal.

I was on a medication (an anti-convulsant) for several years that had weight gain as a side effect. The first month on it, I gained 20lbs! I gained another 20 the second month! My habits didn't change at all. I ate so well and exercised regularly. It was so bizarre. My doctor finally took me off when it became less effective and I asked for a dose increase. She said no because she was worried about my health risks associated with my weight. I peaked at 165.

After I went off the medication, most of the weight just melted off magically. I lost 30lbs without effort. But the last 10 just stuck, leaving me around 135, which I was happy with.

Then, this summer, I gained 7 or 8 pounds. My sweetie and I got into some bad pastry-buying/eating habits (yum!).

I decided about a month ago to join Weight Watchers. I wanted to get those summer pounds off before they "stuck" and I figured I might as well get rid of that extra 10 or so lbs while I was at it.

I set my goal at 127 because I saw a nutritionist several years ago and she determined that this would be an ideal weight for me to have the appropriate percent body fat. I also know that this is a good size for me.

I want to cook more healthy food, eat more fruits and vegetables and exercise at higher levels of intensity.

Junk food is my favorite, and I'm trying to make myself more aware of the food that I eat.
Losing weight isn't really my goal, it's more of getting into better shape and taking better care of myself by getting back into going to the gym.

hello hello. i'm branch on glitter. i spent the last year writing my dissertation, and thus a whole lot of time on my tush at my desk, not a whole lot of time exercising. that, perhaps combined with some medications i was taking the first half of the year, has made it hard to squeeze into my jeans, and generally less healthy/in shape. so, i'm just trying to do something about that! i want to lose some weight and get back to exercising regularly. i just moved and started a new job, so a lot is going on. i'm trying to start with some baby steps - be more mindful of how much i'm eating, and start exercising a little bit. it's frustrating because the yoga place in my town is closed until the beginning of september for 're-energizing' (?!), and i can't start a gym membership at the university i work at until around then either. so for now it's just whatever i can do at home.

anyhoo, there you have it.

Hey! I'm Krystle! I am really wanting to gain control of my health. I have been overweight for way to long. I can't chase my daughter around the house and have fun with her without losing my breath. And that's depressing. I also really want to spice up the "intimate" life with my hubby. There's really no spice whenever he has to sleep with an insecure, out of shape gal. I would also love to have another baby. But I MUST be healthy before I will consider pregnancy. That's all...lol.

I'm here because I'm fat, getting older, and frightened of the consequences of choices I make now seriously impacting my life in the future. I'm 31 and I have high cholesterol. That scares the crap out of me because I know that high blood pressure is right around the corner with my family history. I don't want to have a heart attack or a stroke at 35. And then watching my mom go through treatment for breast cancer this summer made me realize that I'd rather fight something like that from the standpoint of a relatively fit person rather than a sedentary, morbidly obese person.

I lost 50 lbs. from Feb. 2006 to Sept. 2006, and then I went off any kind of diet and exercise plan with a couple of fits and starts here and there. I ended up gaining back half the weight, and a recent doctor's appt. put everything back into focus for me. I've lost a little bit (around 10 lbs. or so) since being active again on spark.

me, i'm cmightym over on glitter (but it would be stalkerish in a funny way if i weren't). i lost 15 pounds between january and may, and i've been happily sitting on my laurels since then. i was training for a 5k, but i've been sick for the last 3 weeks, so that may not happen by the race on 9/9/7. whatevs, i say. there are other races.

i'm back now because i'm getting the fire in my belly to see what i can really make this body do. to this end, i'm planning on continuing running, getting my nutrition back in order, starting to lift weights, and to get really good at yoga. i also have the unholy and shallow goal of looking mighty hot when we go to mexico in november, which ultimately takes a back seat to the bigger goals.

so, sparkers, reup! or just up! who are you, and what do you want from this experience?
