I like to eat 1 serving of reduced fat triscuits and 1 Laughing Cow light swiss wedge. The cheese is only 30 calories.

I love the string cheese too! That's something I always keep in the house and I always seem to have one on me when at school for my mid afternoon snack along with a piece of fruit. I just recently got the Sargento Light kind and they are only 50 calories each.

it may be pedestrian or juvenile, but i like those little individual low-fat string cheese sticks. i usually have one of those and an apple or banana before i hit the gym after work.

I agree! I LOVE strawberries and fortunately they are nutrient packed and low cal!

Righteous - try the chocolate chip idea, it looks like just a little when you put them in your bowl/pyrex measuring cup (that's what I use to melt them in) but it makes a surprising amount. I play the "how far can I get game" and see how many strawberries I can dip in the chocolate, stretching it as far as possible to get the maximum deliciousness.

And chicken - it takes a while to get used to smaller meals. I was ravenous the first few weeks and I had to chug water and try really hard not to eat a lot but now I eat small meals and the key is eating lots of them. If I am on track with my small meals I have to "feed" every 3 hours or else my blood sugar plummets. If you can do it it works great though and gives you a lot of energy without that after-lunch food coma feeling.

Fruit is a great snack/treat - especially things that usually show up in desserts, like strawberries or raspberries. 1 cup of frozen strawberries is only 50 calories. Awesome!

I made myself a delicious turkey, cheese and tomato sandwich, cut in half, today. I was going to eat half for lunch and half for my afternoon snack (around 3:30, when I get all snacky), but I couldn't resist it and ate the whole thing at 11:00am.

Poop. So much for small meals!

Speaking of sweet things - I just remembered that 1 serving of chocolate chips which is about 30, is 70 calories. Stick them in the microwave then dip strawberries in it - instant fondue!

SARAHLAND, I totally get that. I eat carrots with hummus or cut up cucumber in vinegar as a replacement for chips & dip or salt & vinegar chips.

I am a chip-a-holic, but finding replacement foods has been surprisingly easy.

I bring a Nutri Grain bar to work everyday for my afternoon snack. And blueberries....since they are small and I can pop a couple in my mouth at a time they fill that M&M urge. I find I want foods almost as much for the tactile sensation than the taste.

It's weird, I know.

jelly bellys! 25 of them = 100 cals and totally delicious! but also expensive :(

also, carrots & hummus are a big snack food of mine. Mini breton crackers, and nilla wafters. Special K vanilla almond cereal.

I find that it works better for me to eat 5 smaller meals a day that are each around 250 calories. Usually a few will be higher cal, more around 300-400 and then I have two (or three) snacks that are usually around 100-250 cals. Basically, I have to eat every three hours or else my blood sugar dips too much since I am not eating as much each time I eat.

This means that I eat breakfast at about 7:30AM, a snack midmorning, lunch around 12-1, a snack midafternoon, dinner usually at 6:30-7 then maybe a snack in the evening if I have the calories and am even hungry or have eaten dinner really early. (I should qualify that I aim for 1250 calories a day but its flexible to go up a bit)

Embrace the snacking! Snacking is not all bad, its just resisting the food that is not good for you. Pack your own snacks, lots of them. I always pack a snack. String cheese is good, granola bars, fruit, celery (crunchy and low cal), baby carrots, whole wheat crackers, yogurt, cottage cheese, one serving of tortilla chips and salsa (weight them out!) etc. etc. It just doesn't work for me to not eat when I am legitimately hungry. If I eat regularly and am adequately fueled, I don't want to snack on food that isn't healthy.

Oh - and drink a lot of water. Drinking a lot of water usually helps me figure out when I am truly hungry vs. when I am merely bored and want to eat out of boredom. Hope this helps!

I am trying to sort of follow the meal plan recommended, but I really just want to snack a lot. There is a big plastic container of chocolate cookies and mini-candy bars right in front of my desk right now, and I am fighting to not eat them. I ate my very delicious and nutritious lunch sandwich at 10:30 today because I wanted something to snack on so bad!!

What do you do? What do you snack on?
