- I used to do the double-dinners thing too. I'd eat dinner at 6, then at 9 I'd get hungry and eat a whole other meal, instead of a snack. Now I just have my "snack" at night. I've heard it's not good to eat before going to bed, but oh well.

- My portion sizes have changed a lot, too. I'm finding it easier to eat veggies, because I can easily down 5 baby carrots even if I don't feel like it. I used to think I had to eat, like, 20.

- I'm also finding it a lot easier to pack lunches. I don't always follow my diet plan, but I make sure I have protein, veggies and carbs. I also don't pack "treats" in my lunch anymore - the first day I tracked my food I had packed 3 cookies for dessert (like I did every day) and was shocked to find that they came out to more calories and fat than the rest of my lunch put together!

As for specific foods, I'm eating more bagels, baby carrots, pea pods, yoghurt, and oatmeal; and less sweet baked goods, cheese and candy.

my portion sizes have changed considerably. i had been overestimating my required amounts of everything, so now i'm actually spending less time cooking each week because i can get 4 meals out of a 2-pack of chicken breasts instead of two, and when i cook up a pot of rice it goes twice as far, etc. also, (and this may be TMI) my IBS has been completely dormant for the entire 3 weeks i've been a sparkperson, and this may be because i'd been shoveling down double portions of veggies before that my body couldn't digest. so cutting down my portions to normal sizes has helped a lot.

The main thing when I'm actually paying attention to what I eat is that the number of fruits and vegetables that I eat increases significantly. I make an effort to make them interesting rather than just nuking some broccoli or corn. And I tend to eat more interesting things in general because I'm not just falling back on the pizza rolls in the freezer for dinner or a hot pocket for lunch.

things that have changed:

-smaller portions. i realise now that i was making enough pasta to feed a small army, and then eating it myself.
-not eating double dinners. i'd essentially be hungry when i came home from work or school and eat something that resembled a full dinner. two hours later, the boy would be hungry and make me another full dinner. i'd eat both, and usually, eat part of his dessert, too.
-eating an entire box of oreos/bag of chips 'cause i'm sad/angry/whatever. yesterday, i was as angry as i've been in a long time, and really felt the need to eat something. i made a salad with lots of crunchy things, and it was just as good.

things that haven't changed:

-coffee breakfasts. sorry. you could tell me that, if i stopped drinking coffee for breakfast, i'd magically lose fifty pounds, and i'd probably have to have a long hard think about it.
-most of what i eat. i think part of it is not eating breakfast, but, by the end of the day, i still have a lot of calories that i can "spend" on dinner. tonight, i'll have at least 800 before i hit the lowest amount of calories that i should be eating. it's nice to know that i can put alfredo sauce on my pasta or have a bit of ice cream without ruining my diet (and scrimping to save those calories all day).

I mean, obviously our habits have changed, but what foods do you eat a lot of now, that you didn't eat as much before? Or what do you go without now that you never would have before?

I have been eating tons of spinach (I ate it before, but now I eat it pretty much every day or twice a day). My favorite quick thing to eat is to cut up 1-2 cups of mushrooms and 2 roma tomatoes and then "stir fry" them (I add a half a pat of butter to "saute" it in, but you could skip that because the tomato juice helps the mushrooms cook) and then at the end I add two huge handfuls of baby spinach (like 2-3 cups?) and let it wilt just a little (cook it for 1 min. or so). It's like 100 calories or something and it's a plate full of food!

Actually, I have been eating a lot more tomatoes, too. I used to just put them in my salad for color, but not eat them. Now I eat things like chopped tomatoes and kidney beans tossed in vinaigrette.

I have been REALLY light on the coffee/caffeine since I started, and I even drank tea w/out sweetener today.

I have been eating apple slices & a tbsp of peanut butter for a snack, which is good. If I have extra calories available, I add 1 oz of cheese to eat with it.
