Thanks for the suggestions! Bringing my own stuff is a good idea, assuming i have the chance to prepare ahead of time... I'm not too bothered by the boozing because i only have a chance to go out, get tipsy, and hang out with certain friends every once in a while, and since I'm doing so much better in so many ways thanks to spark, I don't feel like I need to give it up.

I know the bartenders... Maybe I can convince them to keep a bag of veggies there for me : )

Could you maybe bring a measuring cup with you and only eat as much as will fit into your snack for the day? (maybe not - I find that when I eat only a little bit of something delicious I want more and more and more).

Or fill up on air-popped popcorn or veggies before going out?

I second the air popping idea. Mix the popcorn with a small handful of nuts and maybe a few chocolate chips (or carob chips!) and you have some trailmix that will fill you up. Another strategy is to eat before going out then just really listen to your body as to whether you are really hungry or not.

I am finding that a lot of this spark business is really getting in tune with your body and really listening to what it wants. Knowing whether you are actually hungry or if you are just feeling boozy and eating because it feels good. Trust me, I struggle with this because some food just tastes SOOOOO good (or feels good eating it, weird though that may sound) that its really hard for me to stop, even when I am really full.

And if all else fails, maybe try another bar, one that doesn't have any food so its not an option?

or (and i can hear the booing that will inevitably accompany this) maybe not go to the bar? i haven't been drinking since i started this spark business, and i think it's helped a lot in keeping my calories under control. not so much because of the calories in the alcohol, but because when i drink i want to eat. by not drinking i haven't been doing the side eating that generally comes when i get a little buzzy...

Maybe air pop your own and bring it with? Then you can feel like you're eating the stuff from the bar...

no seriously. 'our bar' has a never-ending supply of freshly popped popcorn which by the way is the one of the most satisfying thing to eat in large quantities when you're tipsy.

other than not going to this place (and i'm giving up enough things i love lately!), what can i do instead of chowing down on this delicious, warm, fluffy popcorn? damn it! is there a similarly satisfying snack i could bring with me? there has to be something other than chainsmoking.
