yeah, just three consecutive exercises that make up one set. so 15 feet together, 15 regular, 15 sumo, counts as one set.

what do you mean by tri-set? did you go feet together/regular/sumo and that counted as one and then you repeated that, or did you do all feet togethers at once, all regulars at once, and all sumos at once?

i'm trying to catch the lingo, ya dig?

nope 195 in 4 sets.

we did 15 regular (feet shoulder-width) as a warm up. then four reps of a tri-set of 15 each of feet-together, regular, and sumo (feet far apart). i was about dying.

we change it every week though. this week he had meusing the v-squat machine doing the same thing (the tri-set) but with 148, 173, and 183 pounds of weight. we only did two reps of each set, and a warm up of 15, so 135 total but it was a lot of weight.

195 squats? Holy crap. I almost want to ask if that's a typo. I could do maybe 20.

vik, are you making sure you stretch before and drink lots of water before and after you do the squats?

If you look in the exercise demos here you'll see.

Basically standing with feet shoulder width apart and well, squatting like you're going to sit down.

yeah, if its too much you just have to ease into it. do 5. then the next time, do 6, etc. for lunges and squats, if you cant do one "all the way" just do what you can. like if you cant get your front leg to a 90 degree angle on lunges, just go down as far as you can. the first few times i worked with my trainer i seriously wanted to kill him for about 3 days afterward. now we sometimes do multiple sets (3 or 4) of 45 squats. i never in a million years thought id be able to do that many.

I'm a walker, and I found out that I can get my daily ratio of cardio training by hiking up the hill to the castle behind my house, walking around it, then taking the long way down to the market. That way I can just treat it as a slightly more time consuming way to do groceries.
If I had to actually change into exercise gear and then run around like a maniac for half an hour I bet that I wouldn't even do it once. I am shamefully fearful of anything athletic, except for watching handball matches, because the women are hot and you can buy beers at the stadium.
I also have a pilates dvd, and it's easy to do a 20 minute workout before taking a shower, which is not to say that I actually do that on a regular basis.

Just as proof I think the squats and lunges should be off my radar for now, I did them Wednesday night (12 squats - that's all) and my legs STILL hurt today - Sunday.

And not just little pain - like, still hurts to walk up stairs pain. They can't be too effective when they basically put me out of commission for 4 days.

Maybe if I lose weight they won't hurt so bad, but I think now I just weigh too much!

Since I joined my gym and started working with my trainer I actually really like to exercise. It's weird because I always hated it before! But now, when my husband says "what do you want to do today/tonight?" I say "go to the gym!"

I usually do 65-70 minutes of cardio on the elliptical, 45 minutes going forwards and 20 minutes going backwards (which is great for hamstrings and glutes).

I do strength training 1x/week for an hour with my trainer and then I do arms/chest/shoulders 2 more times per week on my own, lower body 1 time on my own and abs/back 4x/week. I use a BOSU at home for abwork and usually do lunges and squats with the BOSU. Other than that I just use little dumbells 8lbs and 10lbs at home. My least favorite things to do are reverse crunches and lunges, squats, and reverse lunges. They are super effective though. My least favorite thing to do with my trainer is the Vsquat machine because it is so hard! My favorite thing to do is play catch with a medicine ball, its like recess.

Netflix it then burn it for yourself! That's how I ended up with a Tae Bo DVD (shhh...)

I totally wanted yoga booty ballet!!
I might netflix it.

Arabella(ita?) - I like keeping my goals small like that. Saying I want to lose 50lbs. someday isn't concrete enough of a goal (and it's overwhelming) so....small goals it is!

I've joined gyms before (The YMCA down the street) & while I actually really liked going there, it seemed to eat up too much of my day. So now I walk to & from work (trying to up my pace so it's actual cardio - but then I'm sweaty when I get to work! yuck!)

I think I'm going to look into some of the programs the community center down the street offers for free. The boy does Tai Chi & swears by it.

Oh! One night I got totally hypnotized by the Yoga Booty Ballet infomercial & ended up getting it from ebay for $1 + shipping - it's so weird! The moves are so fast! I can see how they'd be effective, but I don't have enough floor space to do it. And I don't think my downstairs neighbors would appreciate it :)

I hate exercising, but I hate being fat more. Big help, I know. But I've half-heartedly tried to lose weight before, and it never stuck. I think I want it more now. It's like when I finally quit smoking--I just had to really be READY. And now I will do anything to lose this weight.

I'm doing the recommended strength training exercises Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. They don't take that long, and I can do them while I watch TV. Some of them I can even do in my office at work. Hate: modified plank, and the triceps one with the chair.

I think I have my exercise plan set up for five days of cardio (what was I thinking?) but I'll be happy if I do four. I am doing Tae Bo. I do it right when I get home from work, because otherwise I won't do it, and I had to find something I could do on my own, at home, because if I have to go to a gym for exercise I'd never do it. It is really, really, hard. By the end I'm drenched and ready to collapse. But I drink some water and get in the shower, and by the time I'm clean, I feel really good that I did something that hard, that I really didn't want to do, you know? And I almost forget how hard it was toward the end of the workout, whn I thought I was going to fall over, and I do it the next day.

Another big motivator is that I'm looking forward to the day when I can keep up with the people on the tape better. Some of the things they do look as though they are on fast forward, and I just do my best, but I'd like to be able to keep up someday.

My 140 goal (40 lbs) is the end of May. I think that then I might be able to go in public in a swimsuit again.

I need to do squats though, my big problem area is my bum.
I really, really need to exercise. I just have not felt like it in forever. kudos to you for doing something!
I also like your 5 pounds by February goal - I think I'm going to do that too. My goal to lose all my weight is April 30, which is too far away.

someone make me work out please!

I try to keep up with the days I'm supposed to exercise here, but...somedays it doesn't work out. (har har)
And I keep telling myself that I'm trying to ease into this slowly and I don't want to tackle too much at one time anyway or else I might become overwhelmed and quit.

Anyway, the other night I did some squats (as prescribed!) and every time I've done them I've sworn I'll NEVER do them again. My legs ache for days. Today I'm at the "can't lower myself onto the toilet" stage. And it hurts to walk. Which is in turn making me feel guilty for not wanting to go to the gym tonight.

A vicious cycle.

I COULD go swimming and sit in the hot tub to ease my muscles, but my suit is a size (or 2) too small and while I normally don't mind being in a swimsuit - it helps if it actually fits.

I'm not really sure what I'm getting at other than to say I never want to do squats or lunges again! (and I'm gonna try to stick to that this time!)

What do you love/hate?
