1.3 mile walk tonight (after not really walking all summer - I am out of shape!) so....I'm done with my 100.

I don't know what end date was decided on, but after this weekend's charity bike ride I'm at 99.3 miles.

I guess I'll get in those last .6 miles tomorrow!

I had this challenge in the back of my mind, but I didn't track much - and I don't think I made it anywhere close to 100 miles. I'm sure i did 50 though.

I got the Omron pedometer, and I really, really like it - it's quiet, small, and you can toss it in your bag & it still counts steps fairly accurately. I think now that I have it, I'm going to just try to walk as close to 10,000 steps as possible each day. (I think on average, I walk about 5000 - on days I walk home from work I can get to 10,000) Apparently 10,000 steps a day =totally healthy.

I pretty much forgot about this too.

Actually a few days before it started I did a 16mile bike ride, then got really sick and didn't do anything for the next 2 weeks.

Since then I've only put on like 32 miles.
I'm going to shoot to add another 20 by the end of the week.

How is everyone doing? I'm not getting on the treadmill as often as I would like, but I'm still going.

I found this new site for logging my exercise. It's still in Beta, but seems like it would do the trick. I think we can log ourselves on the same chart if anyone else becomes a member:

ok I'm ordering the pedometer! last week I even did some jogging and some walking! and I got a bike pump for my mom's bike (which she is lending to me) so that I can ride as well. I'm excited to explore the trails around my house, although it's tough to be enthusiastic about riding when it's 100 degrees F outside.

I'm bummed!

I wanted to order the Omron Pedometer on Amazon but they won't ship it to me in Canada! booooo.

I can find it, but it's not on sale for $20 - it's like, $39.00 here, Amazon.ca doesn't even sell that kind of stuff.

I have a pedometer but it's really loud & 'clicky' - it sort of draws attention to me when I walk, especially in my quiet office.

I'm in, I'm in.
Right under the wire.

I just started the coach 2 5k this evening (still sweating ...) and I've been doing a regular exercise program since june.
I'd really like to track what I've done.

so glad you are going to do it! yippee! can you tell i'm happy about this challenge?

i'm not sure about logging...someone who has been around here longer may be able to tell you if you can log miles on sparkpeople...seems like you should.

i know that last time, vikarious talked about making a paper spreadsheet to share.

i did it old skool on paper last time.

someone had a cool countdown under their posts, but i'm not that fancy and don't know how to do that either.

basically, my post was useless...except for the enthusiasm!

I've never taken part in a challenge. How do you log your miles? I'm thinking I'll keep a notebook, but is there something on SP that will do the job?

sorry about the trouble with the link.
mine is the omron HJ 112.
if you look it up at amazon you'll see lots of positive reviews. i've never owned another one, so i have nothing to compare it to...but it is consistent with always picking up my steps. i can say that.

is the one you already own consistent but just not accurate? what you might want to do is clock out a mile walk using the google map. search for "google maps pedometer" if my link doesn't work and set your pedometer to work for your mile walk. then your pedometer will be accurate. does that make sense?

but if your pedometer is not consistent, it won't fix that problem.

Here's the pedometer that I have. I really like all the features. It tracks miles, as well as steps, and calories burned. And has a memory function for 7 days.

I am in for 100 miles.
(Anyone who finds 50 a more realistic fitness goal for them is welcome to participate with that goal.)

Sorry for the USA-centrism about Fall!

Coincidently I used the treadmill in the gym in my building for the first time today. It was meant to be.
I'm in for 100.

Ok, I'm committing myself to 160 km by 22 Sept (we say spring starts on the 1 Sept here, so I don't have any fun alliteration!)
At least I get a head start with my 4 km a day just getting to and from the station to work.

the first day of fall is Sept 22, 2008.
we could pick that date just to be cool.

or we could go with august 1 to sept. 30.

since we have 2 months, should we make it 100 miles?
i know it ruins the alliteration, but it makes it more of a challenge...
i tried to edit the topic to say "50 or 100 miles to fall" but it wouldn't let me edit the topic

this is fun! i'm starting on august 4th, though, when we get back from vacation. we're going to be walking a lot when we're gone, but i really don't want to think about mileage or do the math. when does the 50 miles end? i'll just start late and hustle my butt to catch up...

I have a pedometer and I love it! It has a 7-day memory feature* and it's fun to challenge myself to do more than the next day. I'm such a geek that I wear it all day. I've got it clipped to my skirt as I sit in front of the computer!

I'll do a lot of miles on the stationary bike in the gym tho, so it will tell me how many miles I went.

You can also use this cool google pedometer map:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
I was able to map the path in my neighborhood, even the off-road shortcut and find out that my usual dog walk was .84 miles before I got the pedometer.

*of course paying extra for that feature is not necessary if you just write it down. my mother gave the pedometer to my husband as a gift and i ended up with it.

I say we stick with July 25 so that we have time to get in all of our miles... but if the time approaches and we don't seem to have many participants, we'll move it.

It makes me smile to see you here!

I guess we should start soon...so we have 2 months to do it.
But we should also give people enough time to see the message and sign up.
Did you see my note on Glitter?
Maybe the end of the week July 25?
I've never done one of these before. Is that too soon?

Anyone up for another 50 miles to fall?

The first official day is September 22, I believe.
That gives us some time.

We could be ambitious and set a goal of 100 miles to fall.

That's an average of 1.6 miles a day?
Unrealistic?
What do you think?
