Thank you so much for your input I appreciate it. I was so motivated when I started the team. I hope my new exercise habits don't go down the drain too. I don't think so though. I really enjoyed the books I read by Marie Kondo and also the TV show on Netflix. Maybe I'll have more energy when I lose more weight or don't get my kids for 4 weekends in a row! The doctor I saw today asked me about stress in my life possibly causing the shingles. I denied it but I think she has a point! I will stop by your blogs.

Nah, I’d hate for you to dissolve our tiny team! Even as I continue to be “vaporlocked” (haven’t done a damn thing), this is a good reminder of keeping a place to start...
Still running the circuit between my clinic, my mom’s and my son’s houses. I’ve got to look into hiring a commercial cleaning service for my mom since I had to fire her housekeeper (see blogs for details).
And it’s still a mystery to me why Hubby leaves his used coffee pods piled up around the machine when it’s literally 2 steps away to turn & toss ‘em in the trash?!?

I am also one making 0 progress! I know the one who started this team! I have been so busy and my apartment is a disaster area and I don't care right now because I am obsessed with exercise. I am trying to lose those 20 pounds that don't want to go away! Possibly more but 20 seems like more than enough to focus on. Actually I am focusing on just the first 5, then another 5 and so on.

I have considered dissolving this little team with only 5 members. I want something for people to find though and it was a good idea when I was trying to find a team and their was none for Marie Kondo. I just thought that was terrible at the time! Ha! I think Flylady has taken over the cleaning and organizing. Oh well worth a shot.

Input would be great. Thanks.

I haven’t been posting here bcz I have made little to no progress, I am cutting myself slack w/my dad’s death & all...
I had to make an emergency run last weekend to the coast to visit an old college friend of mine who was hospitalized in a diabetic crisis, had to have both legs amputated right above her knees. They are a childless older couple with a charming little beach house which looks like it’s right out of Architectural Digest - it’s going to be a challenge to refit this multilevel home for wheelchair access, but first we’ve got to get J out of the hospital, I know!
Anyway, her husband was fussing around when I came home with him, apologizing that “The house is a wreck!” (It certainly wasn’t - if MY house looked that good I’d be thrilled to death!) & that there were no sheets on the guest bed. (I told C to set himself down, I could manage)
I only wish I didn’t live 6 hrs away - but another friend of theirs who is retired has been able to come stay w/C, that’s a blessing.

Sorry I haven't post in here in a while. Going through some rough depression stuff.

I am so sorry about your friend Bill. I am glad your son was not hurt in the accident. That's great you can give the workbook to your technician's daughter!

Wow 4 teenagers! Yes that is a lot.

Hope you had a good Easter weekend. My weekend was okay until Easter actually hit.

Tues night (after a good hot-yoga class w/Master Bruce), I managed to organize another 3 packets of old photos. Back “in the day” (when we still ordered prints), I would typically get doubles to have extras for friends & family. I came across some duplicates of my BFF’s daughter (3 yrs younger than my son) - too bad K is having her own challenges w/her crew of 4, yes I said FOUR! teenagers.
M (17) has been skipping school since she has gained driving privileges, ugh! So like it or not, poor K will probably be back on carpool duty while they sort this out.
We are driving E to Memphis today, to meet up w/my husband’s cousin, his wife & kids this weekend. Further home improvement projects will have to be put off for a few more days.
Hope everyone has a nice Easter weekend.

I spent a large chunk of time yesterday finishing off my taxes (nothing like waiting till the last minute) and as it turned out, that ate up most of my daylight so I did NOT get in a bike ride.
This evening I’ll also miss yoga bcz we’re going to our cycling friend Bill’s visitation (heart attack, age 72).
I did make a small start on a couple of junk reservoirs - Z’s puppy pulled out a stack o’ stuff under a side table, there were 14-15 yr old magazines & an old workbook for Arabian horse native costumes! The magazines went in recycling & I'm giving the workbook to my technician’s daughter, she’ll enjoy the pictures.
I also emptied out half of a box in the garage from Z’s wrecked car (almost 2 yrs ago, I’m sorry to say)... That just made me sick - of course I’m relieved my son wasn’t hurt, but that was a damn nice car that he just drove into the ground & ultimately totaled when he fell asleep behind the wheel & hit a guardrail. No wonder I’m depressed, still processing this old garbage.

ENDUROVET when do you go on your yoga retreat? That sounds great! Hope you enjoy it!!!! I wish I could get away too. Oh well not in the cards. I even have to work today which totally messes with my life by the way!

Great for cleaning out the bathroom drawer. I did something similar to my bathroom. I got two shoe boxes and put stuff in there and it worked great. I was able to realize that with 13 things of tooth paste I don't have to buy that for ages! Ha! I had no idea I had that much! I get these from Young Living Essential Oils where I am a distributor. I am not good at selling to others so I just buy the stuff once a month for myself.

I also need to concentrate more on doing instead of spending time on computer and such.

Yes Ruth had great ideas! I will definitely be discarding books I have trouble reading in the future. Actually there was one that had too much about Jesus in it and I am Jewish so it didn't sit well with me and only got through a quarter of the book and decided bye bye. Ha!

I got the Spark Joy book yesterday and I posted a thread about it today if you want to check it out. So good! I am enjoying it. Taking it to work with me today actually so I can continue reading it. MK says don't quit and that is so important for me to hear!!!!

Those are great suggestions MissRuth! I will be implementing The Great Paper Purge when I get back from my long-awaited yoga retreat...
So far, I have accomplished two mini-goals: the shoe giveaway & cleaning out a drawer in our bathroom where Hubby had stashed dozens of those little travel-size shampoos, conditioners, & lotions from his “Road Warrior” days (he used to travel extensively for work, but these days works almost exclusively from home - This complicates our clutter situation since we BOTH have packrat tendencies!). I will be donating these to a local DV shelter which I support.
Hard to believe I just posted my 800th Spark Blog after almost 11 yrs - I need to concentrate more on Doing & less on Writing Things Down.

I only have one magazine subscription and get it quarterly. I've already read the recent one I got for Winter 2019. These are very old O magazines when I used to subscribe to. I don't anymore so there is a limited number without any new ones coming in. I do plan on reading the books I have not read. I got rid of 2 of them last week. They were for when my kids were little so it didn't apply anymore so I am going to sell them.

I buy only the books that I cannot get from the library. What prompted me to buy Spark Joy was this team actually. I figured I should buy and own one of her books.

Thank you though. If I do find trouble reading a book I will sell it at my mom's garage sale.

idk if this will be helpful or not, but it's just my personal experience, and I'll share it.

DH and I are book lovers, and also used to subscribe to a bunch of magazines plus a couple daily newspapers. We had problems letting go of anything we hadn't read yet, so there were constantly piles of newspapers, magazines, books all over the place. It was overwhelming and aggravating, and every time I saw the piles, I'd be flooded with thoughts like "I should read that-- but I don't have time" or "I need to clean those up-- but I can't get rid of them (because I haven't read them) and have nowhere to put them". Made me feel bad. At the same time, we were looking to cut down on expenses a little bit. This was pre-MK.

The first thing I did was let my magazine subscriptions go. Enough of the content was available free online, and realistically-- (again, this is just myself personally) although I often ripped out articles or recipes to save for later-- the truth was that I rarely looked at them again. I never got through a magazine before the next month's issue showed up. There was always more incoming than outgoing. If I had truly missed a magazine, I would have re-subscribed. But the truth is-- I don't. It was a relief, actually, to get rid of that monthly reminder that I had failed yet again, to read my magazines-- and the piles were just getting bigger. DH kept 2 subscriptions, and he really does read the magazines every month.

One of the newspapers decided to stop delivering in our area-- and although we could have gone to the bookstore to buy a copy, we rarely did. Went and got the Sunday edition a couple times, and then that was it. Didn't miss it. The 2nd paper just came up for renewal, and we decided to let it go for a while and see if we really miss it. Sometimes I read it every day, sometimes I don't. So we'll see.

And the books. I stopped buying every book I wanted to read, and started checking to see if I could get it from the library. What I like about getting books from the library is that it kinda forces you into a time limit to read it. Too often, I'd buy a book and then it would sit in a pile somewhere (because there was no room in the bookcases) for weeks or months, because I didn't have time to read it. Sometimes, by the time I got around to it, I wasn't really interested any more anyway. And I'd already have at least a dozen newer books in another pile, to choose from, instead of that older book. If I check out a book from the library, read it, and then want to own a copy myself-- I buy one.

Even if it's a topic I know I won't lose interest in, and I know I want to buy a copy because I like the author and know I'll reread the book-- there is a limit to how much time I actually have for reading. Right now, I have 3 books going at the same time. So any new book I see that I'm interested in, goes on the book list on my phone. To me, there's no point buying it yet-- I know I don't have time to read it. The bottom line reality that finally struck me (maybe an "aha!" moment) is that there are always going to be more things I'd like to read, than I have time to read. Authors are churning out more and more every day. And to make some time to read what I already own I have to hit "pause" every so often, and allow myself time to get caught up. I'd like to read Spark Joy, but I've put it on my book list and won't even look for it til I'm done with some of what I'm already reading.

So then along came our first experience with MK and tidying up. We did exactly what she says-- piled every last book from everywhere in the house, in the middle of the floor. And one by one, took them in our hands and made a decision. The ones that "spark joy" are easy. The "well... I'm not sure" ones are harder. To be honest, we probably erred on the side of caution, and kept more -- but DH and I each let go of a bunch of books. I'm talking boxes of books. Things we used to be interested in but aren't any more, books we'd read and knew we weren't ever going to read again and no one would ever ask to borrow, old textbooks and reference type books where realistically we'd just Google for an answer instead of digging through a book. There were books I'd started reading and about halfway through, stopped because it was boring or the writing was terrible or something. I knew I'd never finish that book, but I had kept it because.... why? Because I didn't finish it, I wasn't "officially done" with it? idk, kind of silly to keep a book I didn't like anyway. Out it went. I discovered I had 2 copies of the same book because I'd never read the first one and forgot I even had it, so I bought the second one.

We donated the books to the library. Hopefully someone else will enjoy reading them.

Hi Ruth, my problem with books is I have not read most of them. It's actually rarer for me to have read a book than not so I have to read them and decide after reading them if I want to keep them. Big problem for me. Same thing with my O magazines. I have a friend from work who wants my O magazines but there are some I haven't even opened and they still have plastic cover on them! So I have to read them before giving them away. I've been ripping out articles I want to keep and then I keep those in a folder.

I just bought the Spark Joy book. It should come this week. I saw it at Barnes and Noble for $19 and almost bought it but thought it was cheaper on Amazon so I did not. Came home and checked amazon and can get it for $13 so I ordered it.

Oh I wanted to add yes I feel the same way about manuals and actually two of them saved me this weekend.

Just a comment on the topic of books. In her "Tidying Up" book, MK lays out her ideas about some "rules" about books. She does not appear to be much of a book-lover. And yet-- on the show on Netflix, she takes a different approach to the amount of books folks choose to keep. In her book, her attitude about paperwork also seemed rather ruthless to me. DH and I like to keep all the manuals for all the appliances etc we own, as we prefer a paper copy to googling instructions on the internet. (We're older and old fashioned that way.). So ... what I took from it was this-- if books (or having a paper copy of the instructions) spark joy for you and you want to keep them, keep them. Store them neatly and in an organized fashion, where you can find what you're looking for, and enjoy it. It's not about a certain number of (whatever) objects-- it's about keeping what sparks joy (and letting go of the flotsam and jetsam that just takes up space).

We love books, too-- but whittled down the pile quite a bit when we dumped them all into the middle of the floor and went through them. Best thing is-- getting rid of some, made room for new ones.

The puppy and your dog look good! I saw the pictures on your blog.

Kids are driving me crazy. It's going to take at least a week to clean up the kitchen alone and Michelle and Megan better move the mattress out of the living room and into the bedroom. I had 2 kids stay over aged 10 and 11. Now we are all going to Wendy's for lunch. Yes and the nice tidy room I had done for them is now a huge mess. And I've been cleaning up the root beer cans and moving dishes! What mess they bring everywhere.

Actually I wound up puppy-sitting for 2 nights, we took Dwayne back to my son yesterday when we took him the washer/dryer our neighbor kindly gave him...
(He’s a shepherd-mix mutt, I did manage to post some pictures on my regular blog)
I managed to fill a good-sized garbage bag w/shoes Friday & dropped these off at Z’s old school, had a nice visit w/Sandy the school secretary whose son was a classmate of his. It’s discouraging to hear of everyone else’s kids doing so well, while Z has fallen so far behind in his college game. Hopefully he is getting himself back on track - he’s talking the talk, anyway!
We’ll have to see what happens next year when he should have an associate’s degree, if he’s done what he says he’s doing?
I’m glad you are seeing a counselor & setting guidelines w/your daughters. My ex battled me for custody multiple times throughout Z’s childhood & finally succeeded in stripping me of custody right before he turned 17, so I only saw him on alternate Sundays during his senior year. Yes, that’s right, I had fewer rights than a convicted felon thanks to a corrupt judge, my ex’s crooked lawyer, and my own incompetent one. But I hope we’re putting all that behind us now - I have offered (& will continue to offer) therapy for Z as he works thru the childhood abuse & trauma he suffered at the hands of his father - to him, Z was just a weapon he could use to hurt me, I’m sorry to say.
Enough of that! It’s raining AGAIN here today so I may watch the MK video on Netflix & try to pick a place to start in this cluttered house of mine...

Glad things are good with the puppy. What kind of puppy is it? I'm also glad your headache is gone. I'm also glad you slept well.

Good luck on your shoe project!

I am a little upset. My daughter invited 2 friends over my apartment for a sleep over. She didn't ask my permission first! I am unhappy but don't know how to say no to her because I've had my oldest have 2 friends over once before. I have no idea what they will be doing and I am worried about entertaining them. Also the one has diabetes and I am not too happy about that either. She has to track all her carbs and all. She's had it since she was a baby!

I also have a lady coming this morning at 9 am to go over family stuff. I got in a program with Cornell University and my daughter did not see the one on rules but her older sister did. I am making her watch it since it is very important.

Last night went pretty well with my son’s puppy, although for some reason the photo didn’t show up? (I never claimed to be a technical whiz; I’m lucky to post here & send emails!).
I made Bud the chihuahua (who normally sleeps tucked right up under my R armpit) sleep w/my husband bcz I thought Dwayne the puppy would cuddle up next to me. Instead, he migrated down & slept on my feet which was fine - it kept me warm & I slept pretty well!
He was a little restless but stayed put for the whole night until Amelia came upstairs to ask to go out at 7:45 AM.
Thank goodness my headache has dissipated, so once I finish my precious single cup o’ coffee, I’m going to get in my closet on the Shoe Dispersal project.

38 books! Wow! Yes that's not going to happen! LOL.

I will have to check out Susan Faludi's books and see if my library has them after I catch up on some of my books or at least get this Office Politics read first. I've been putting off reading it for months. I like the author though Oliver James. He wrote a book about Emotional Health that I enjoyed. I read Narcissist chapter and am now up to Imposters! There is another chapter after that that is pretty long and then we get to finally Improve Your Office Politics Skills. I will restrain from jumping ahead.

I love books myself!

Sorry about your sinus headache and having trouble sleeping. I had a little trouble yesterday because we got some snow but I managed to get back and forth to and from work safely. Unfortunately, we have another snow thing coming Sunday night with 5 to 8 inches expected. I am worried. I hate snow by the way! I'm thinking of just taking the occurrences/absences at work but maybe I should stay at my friend who lives in town again. I did that a few weeks ago but I felt bad about it and I'm not sure I want to do it again. Although March 4th is a busy day at work after a weekend and being the beginning of the month.

Yes puppy sitting seems like a good excuse for not getting things done!

But on the subject of BOOKS (always a fave), I am reading Susan Faludi’s “In the Darkroom” which concerns her own family history as she reunites w/her transgender father.
I’ve also read her previous books which are feminist-themed treatises: “Backlash”, “Stiffed”, & “The Terror Dream” which is about 9/11. Two thumbs up for all of these works!

Of course, several of my Facebook friends have gotten caught up in MK’s methods, but a few of us piped up that on the subject of books, we’ll have to fight ya...
I know my overcrowded bookshelves need to be thinned out, but if it is true - what MK recommended to keep no more than 38 books? That AIN’T gonna happen round here!
The weather turned cold, rainy & nasty here once again which didn’t get my Thurs off to a good start. I haven’t been sleeping well anyway, but something must have blown in with this cold front that caused me to wake up early this AM w/a sinus headache. I took some ibuprofen & went back to bed for another hour & a half...
I did manage to get the big batch cooking I wanted to do taken care of, & delivered some of the food to my parents & my son. Other than that I didn’t accomplish much today - my son needed me to “puppy-sit” his new puppy so he could wrap up a school project so that’s my story & I'm sticking to it. He’s adorable as all puppies are - I’ll try to attach a photo.
Hopefully tomorrow I will be more productive around my own house - my son’s elementary school is collecting shoes so there’s a reason for me to start there.

Val

Here I thought we could have a general chat and a need help chat. I need help! I am slowly using Marie Kondo's methods to tidy up my apartment but I am stuck at books. I went through the big desk drawer but haven't organized the stuff I want to keep to put back in the drawer and I have 4 more drawers to go through.

The book I am trying to read is called Office Politics by Oliver James and boy is it one to put you to sleep! Ha! I thought eventually it would give me some interview skills but I am not sure where that is in the book. Right now we already discussed psychopaths and machiavels and I am up to narcissists. Fun huh, but seriously it is enough to put me to sleep. I plan on finishing the book sometime in March!

Hope this triggers some chatting. Take care.
