CONGRATS HEATHER, on the new job! I'm so happy for you! Benefits and all! emoticon emoticon

Kourtney, have we seen pics of little Amelia yet? (Sorry if I missed them!) She sounds wonderful. emoticon And no, we won't talk about maternity leave. This country is shameful.... let's not get started.

Jen, the sleeplessness will stop... really, it will! You just have to be more stubborn than the baby! So glad you got to a yoga class!

Carol, I will believe you are retired when I see it! Hahaha

Michelle emoticon I don't think I've said hi to you yet! Congrats on getting back in the pool. I need to take my cue from you and do the same thing. It's been way too long.

Oh my... all this talk of babies!! emoticon

I just spent a week in South Carolina with my grandbabies and I had SO. MUCH. FUN! I am still exhausted though, even though I've been home since Wednesday.

I have learned an awful lot from being a grandparent! First, you NEVER forget how to care for a baby or toddler. I also have a lot more patience with my grandkids than I did with my own kids. Holding babies is all the more sweet when you know you can hand them back off to their parents. Toddlers are toddlers, whether born in 1987 or 2017! I see SO much of my daughter in both of my granddaughters. emoticon

I babysat my younger granddaughter Chloe (a year old) for one day, then both of them the next day. I also babysat while their parents went out on a "date night" for my daughter's birthday. My Son in law gave me the deer-in-the-headlights look when I offered emoticon

Chloe had her first birthday party on Saturday, complete with green smash cake, and I spent a couple hours chasing my daredevil toddler granddaughter Ellie around the playground.

Biggest lesson? I am SO out of shape! I haven't been motivated to swim or do any other kind of exercise. My weight is up and my core is incredibly weak. But with spring here, my pool will be offering a summer membership deal soon, and I'm going to re-enroll.

Work is work... busy, trying not to take on too much.

Home is home.... 3 dogs, 5 cats. Two of the dogs are elderly with health issues, so lots of extra work there. But it's a labor of love.

Somebody hold me accountable for that pool membership. Should be available starting May 15 or so, for the whole summer.

Oh that's definitely true! This was a daily requirement in our house for sanity's sake! My mom and I once took him from where she lived into San Francisco on a train (because he LOVED trains), then a bus to the cable cars, a tricycle carriage ride, a boat ride and then the BART train to his other grandmother's house...he slept the whole was on BART lol! That was a first for him just conking out for over an hour. We laughed so hard, he was so out, you could pick him up by his feet!

Lol Carol, yeah so far he seems to be intent on staying awake. But after going to the y in the morning, he had a snoozy afternoon. And I took him to the art museum for the gallery openings last night and then he slept ::9:: hours last night!!!

So... Extra stimulation = extra sleep? This requires more testing...

No worries Heather - talk Sunday!

Jen - Haha...well, full disclosure...my son gave up naps completely at around a 18 months and before that he had every trick in the book to stay awake, so we're talking LOTS of experience trying to make a little monster sleep.

In his car seat he used to lift his right arm into the air and when he started nodding off, it would drop and wake himself up. He used to stick his fingers in his eyes, bite his bent finger...so many tricks!

AND...that meant he was awake when all of his buddies would be off napping! No rest for mama...haha. But, I will say I adored him and his ridiculousness!

Oh Heather - You'll get this! They changed my title and when the plant accountant and the financial analyst were getting ready to go to the monthly review meeting they were waiting for me...I said, "Didn't you get the memo...I'm no longer in your department!" They were laughing as they left! I'm still smiling...

I did it! Went to the y and he hung out with the babysitters while I did the bodyflow class! I felt way more capable in that class than I thought I would and the stretching felt amazing. I couldn't keep up with the pilates portion, but I expected that. My abs have been through a lot.

Carol, I need your napping baby magic! He didn't nap for the babysitters either, but he seemed happy enough - just getting hungry.

I've been out sick emoticon but I'm on the mend now!

I got a new title at work! I am now the Systems Development Manager - haha. Kinda a mouthful, but I'm happy to not have it do with accounting at all! I am no longer an accountant...and soooon I'll be retired.

I hope you went to work out with the baby in the daycare Jen! I actually love to play with fussy babies, you get to know them better and it's a fun kind of work. I was once on an airplane from NY to LA and this couple was exhausted and trying to eat dinner with their fussy 7-month-old boy, so I offered to take him. He was lovely. They let me have him the whole trip! lol. I got him to take a 3-hour nap and they slept too. Sigh...I need a grandchild!

Michelle - YAY on losing weight and getting to the pool! I'm planning on joining InShape in Salinas because their pool opens at 4 am. My only issue is when to join...I'm leaving for a month in a couple of weeks...

I have so many fun, inconsequential things going on! I've started working on my garden and I'm planning out what all I'm going to do. my poppies, nasturtiums and other flowers are all coming up! I need to get in another round of poppies and I have 7 pounds of sunflower seeds! I have about 600 bulbs that are all sprouting nicely. I have two more pomegranates and a Keiffer lime tree on their way. Plus I just put in a large order from our local nursery...YAY!

Next, I'll get in my herb garden, beets and all of the other lovely, fresh foods!

I also have all of the foam I need to create my new mosaic bench. I'll take pictures. I've made hundreds of tiles and I also have tumbled a bunch of local stones. It will be so much fun! I've decided to make it a full circle and plant an orange tree in the middle.

Congrats to everyone for all the job happiness, and baby adventures!

My good news is all swimming related. I swam my first mile on Saturday. It took me about 40 minutes. I did a little over a half with no rests, but had many interruptions the second half. A. passed the swimming test the same day, which gave her the right to go in the deep end of the pool. (She didn't think she could do it, but after I bribed her with ice cream, she gained some confidence, lol).

She had her first swimming lesson last night, and they are going to move her to the advanced class, and she was very excited, both by the achievement, and the fact that it means she will get to stay up late on swim lesson nights.

Oh, and I actually lost weight this week for the first time since I started swimming. I reduced my calories this week, probably more than I should have. I averaged 1460 a day, but I burned an average of 775 a day from exercise, which is a pretty big deficit. I have PCOS though, and every ounce I lose is a major battle. The only way I can usually lose is to either eliminate carbs almost completely, or to allow myself low to moderate carbs while doing a significant amount of exercise. The problem is I've never been able to keep either of those up long term. Last week I swam everyday except Friday (which was strength training day).

Those babysitters are so used to taking care of babies. I know you feel like you are the only one who can do this, because you're his mama, and that you don't want them to have to deal with any stress, but believe me, they can do it. Take the yoga if you can!!

I got the health insurance benefits information and it's very nice coverage for a very good price. This is real......a real job with real pay and benefits. Next thing you know they'll tell me they pay for holidays and I earn PTO. Imagine that.......i can't wait!!!

Do it!!! Even if he’s fussy, they’re equipped for it. You deserve some yoga.

Aww yeah I think there's some growth spurt/leap action at that time. I remember 5 weeks was when RJ started to 'wake up' more. There were some seriously fussy days, but also more eye contact and the first smiles!

He's had a bit of a rough go at weight gain from the start because of a tongue tie and resulting borderline supply issues. But it definitely seems common that people have weight concerns for this stretch, so much growing in so little time!

I might attempt yoga at the y this week using their babysitting services... We'll see how the eat/play/sleep routine goes, I'm hesitant to subject a stranger to his nap time fuss.

I completely missed last week's chat and missed BIG news so now I'm caught up and replying (albeit delayed).

Heather - OMG I'm so excited for you!!!!!!!!!! I'm so thankful someone is recognizing your worth! Have you given notice yet?

When my current job started, they made me wait a bit for a start date (about 3 weeks longer than I wanted) and I was anxious to get money flowing in again. But I didn't have an option, so I made those 3 weeks *count*. I got in some workouts, did work in the garden and around the house, etc.

IF they aren't able to move the start date, maybe focus on taking advantage of the extra time you have to do other tasks (wrapping up clients / working on your business / taking care of your body and self) that are important. But if you're able, try to fous on things that will *nourish* you (like reading or exercise or heck watching a tv show you never give yourself time for) rather than focused on *productivity.*

Carol - regardless of if you like this replacement dude, you should focus on retiring. Set a timeline (2 weeks to 1 month MAX) and stick to it, missy. I am completely lost on your second update...that doesn't sound like retirement to me!

Jen - I am SO THRILLED to hear the weight gain is going well! And heck yes not having to pump after feedings. As a sidenote, your little boy is the 4th baby I personally know who had trouble gaining weight in their 4th month. I wonder if it's like the 4 month sleep regression in that it's super common, but just not talked about as often? In any case, I send you thoughts of happy, sleepy babies.

***

Hi all!

So Amelia is 5 weeks now, which means I'm almost halfway through my maternity leave and we're just going to completely ignore that and talk about other things.

She's getting big :-). But she's been pretty fussy lately, which is not ideal. I think it's a growth spurt, so hopefully it'll be better soon. I could use a bit more sleep, though.

My sister and her husband come to visit on Friday, and that should be fun. I also found a Baby and Me playgroup last week that I really liked and want to go to again this week, if possible (but family will be in town on that day so maybe not). We shall see.

xoxo

Good Morning!!! I'm home today because I just need a day off. Sometimes mental health days are needed. I have plenty to do here to keep me busy.

I should get the details on the new position today. I'm hoping they can make the start date a little earlier. I'm anxious to get started on the new gig, and frankly I'm anxious to start getting paid normally again!! This is why two weeks notice is customary. Because it's very hard to be fully engaged when you know you are on the way out! If I had a bunch of money laying around to use, I'd give notice early and take some time off. But, I've used up all of the emergency money, and then some, with all of the job changes and the low pay in this one. So, I'll trudge along doing my best to stay fully engaged!

I may actually go to the pool today to work on some of this stress. Woo hoo!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!!
