Well, we've been getting crazy wind (read - fires) but no snow emoticon

Ugh Heather, I agree with these guys, get an offer and hold up the offer to them, then you'll see how the situation really is. I think we're opposites, I am definitely more of a CFO type than a controller. I've been doing the controller gig to set up/clean up systems. I think I'm just going to hang out a "projects" shingle when I get back after a couple of months of traveling.

BABIES!!! I absolutely loved the 8th and 9th months...well, okay, I loved it all, but not seeing your feet and having your center of balance be about an inch in front of you is totally fun...not to mention major baby moves and Braxton Hicks contractions. I'll just have to live vicariously through you guys!

Thursday we fly to Vancouver (Canada) to see Martino - our Italian son!!! We're going to see Leonard Cohen's Dance Me while we're there! The exchange rate made it so we HAD to get really good seats!

Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!

Morning all,

My sleep has been off for the past week and then affecting my mood. Mer. I'm gonna start tracking my mood and sleep and see if I can find a pattern... hopefully it'll just bounce back.

Mike is out running errands and I'm going to watch some tv. :) xoxo

That wind was crazy! The snow was maybe 3-4" before it started raining, but the problem was that the roads were never salted and deldot didn't deploy plows until well after the snow had changed to rain.

My older brother is hosting his first Thanksgiving today. He and his wife are splitting up and this is the first split holiday. Should be interesting... And I'm gonna have a strange day navigating holiday food with the gestational diabetes. I'm figuring it's just one day, and I'll do my best to eat well but I'm also going to enjoy the family holiday.

We only got 4" by me (more closer to Boston) and it's already pretty wet this morning. Shrug. The windy rain this morning was more of a problem than the snow. I was almost pushed over crossing the bridge!

Hi Heather emoticon

Kourtney, I feel like that's around the time that I started to "pop" too lol. At this point I don't have much of a belly button left ...

The snow today was crazy! Clearly no one expected it, and unfortunately it's Thursday so I had to get to all of my Dr appointments in this mess. Got around ok though. And Randy got home just after me so he cleared the driveway so I could get unstuck from the slush lol. Yeah no shoveling for me!

Just thinking about you guys today and wanted to say hi. My crazy life has me spinning in a lot of directions and you guys truly are an anchor for me. I hope if you are in the snow here on the East Coast that you are safe!

Jen - I'm at 24 weeks so still a bit to go. Definitely noticeably pregnant now though. Mike keeps poking my tummy and saying "pregnant" lol and when I looked in the mirror today at work I was like "daaaaaaamn she's poppin'!"

36 weeks is fine!!! Sydney was 35 weeks, and she was little, but fierce!!! Earlier than this can be challenging, but you've made it to the safe zone. Yay!!!

I'm so damn excited for you and Kourtney. All the babies!!! Woo hoo!!!

Ugh Heather that is a rough spot :-/ I hope it all works out quickly and you get some stability.

Kourtney, how many weeks are you now?

I'm just now 9 months! 36 weeks woohoo! I'm not entirely sure if I'm having Braxton Hicks contractions or if he's stretching lol but there's a lot of movement going on. I feel mostly pretty good, just a little more achy and progressively harder to put my socks on lol

Randy wonders if I'll make it to Thanksgiving, I'm pretty skeptical that I'll make it to December. Not sure why exactly, just a hunch

Crossing my fingers that, when you have an offer, you can show it to the current place and say "make me perm full time and I won't take it." Hugs.

OK, I did it. I updated the resume, I posted it on LinkedIn, I made myself open to recruiters on linkedin, I sent my resume to two recruiters, one I've worked with before and a new one. I'm so freaking tired of looking for a job and being the new kid. I mean, I'm really tired of it. I'd literally like to just have the same job with the same organization for two years. Two. Not 15 again. Two.

So, cross your fingers. Pray. Meditate. Whatever you do. Because I need your help!!

Love,
Heather

Kourtney, thank you for the perfect response!

It's beyond frustrating to have found the perfect job at the perfect organization in the perfect location, only to have the perm thing not work out yet. I honestly and truly feel like I just can't catch a break the last few years. You made the same point I make in my mind, the new person can either keep someone with some organizational experience (me), or move on to someone else. We could write something nice in the offer like they'd give me two weeks notice, or something. But how am I now incentivized to do a great job and keep really digging in with the situation I have? I'm not. I'm left with doing as much as I need to to keep the job, and focus my efforts on finding permanent employment.

And on that note, I'm spending the first hour of every workday looking for a job now. Ugh.

Kourtney, that movement just will get stronger and stronger and it's so much fun!!! Glad you had a nice day getting a lot of stuff done at the house.....that's always such a good feeling.

OK, off to apply!!! ;)

Heather - ugh that sounds beyond frustrating!!! I’ve never gotten the whole “let the new guy decide the team” model... if worse came to worse, he could let you go. But more likely he’d rather have a stable, productive, happy team then start off with a newbie because they can’t keep someone in the role...

Are you in any position where you can say them doing this temp ish is resulting in you having to look again? I doubt you have much to bargain with but maybe?

I’m so sorry babe. Hugs.

Morning all,

I. Am. Sleepy. Ready for some coffee :).

I didn’t have work yesterday, so I got a TON done around the house: laundry, cleaning out closets, cleaning the nursery, made dinner, etc. Now I’m heading back to work and it’s rainy and I’d rather stay cozy at home w kitties and a good book.

Teh baby has upped her kicking I think. They’re getting stronger too. Still not quite strong enough to feel externally, but getting there.

I have a book club tonight that I’m not going to go to. I’m tired and would rather be home. Gonna still read the book though - it’s Octavia Butler’s book Kindred adapted to a graphic novel.

mkay I’m gonna zone out the rest of the train ride and hopefully rally once I get to the office and have some coffee. xoxo

Ugh. Just talked to the Interim CFO. I don't really think I fit the profile for what they're looking for here as CFO, so I didn't pursue it. I really don't want that job anyway, I want the Controller job. He said he sees me here through May. Maybe longer......that depends on the new CFO. So, I'm supposed to just be Interim as a temp with no PTO, no paid holidays, no benefits at all, until they might decide to hire me permanently after almost a year?!

Job hunting here I come. I don't care how much I love this job, I can't do this until May. I appreciate his honesty and being up front with me. I clearly understood this was Interim until they got a new CFO and then they'd let that person decide. I've had terrible work experiences the last two years and I know how amazing this job and this organization is. But this isn't feasible until May. I'll be dead broke by then. And then I'll start as an employee with a three month waiting period, or whatever it us, until benefits start to accrue? How is that fair to me? Well, I know life isn't fair, but I also have to take care of myself. So.......updating the resume and starting the hunt in earnest tomorrow. It's a terrible time to look, but if I start now I may be able to get an offer in January? Maybe? Not great timing for them if I leave just as the audit is starting, but hey, in this world I've learned I must look out for myself. Ugh.

Thanks for letting me rant. I'm done now!

I love the work I'm doing too. I've decided I never want to be a CFO or controller again! I will hang out my shingle as a business troubleshooter and software systems expert. I think I'll try to work for a month or two each year and limit it to that. ...of course, I have to quit here before I can do that. I have my month long vacation set for next year, so I'll have to figure it out.

We worked hard this weekend and got a lot done. I like the remodel stuff because it's a great sustained workout. I finished painting the downstairs in our King City house and also took the saw to some ivy that is intertwined into the base of the house. Why anyone would plant invasive ivy against a house is beyond me. I want to pour cement over the top of what's left of the ivy so that it never comes back. We have one more load to take down to that house for staging purposes and one more load out, then we just have to finish the construction on the new bathroom and we can put it on the market. Having a second bathroom looks like it's going to generate about a $30k higher price so it's definitely worthwhile and it will cost less than $2k to do...so why not?

Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!

Good Morning!!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I got a lot done that needed to get done, and so I feel lighter today than I have in a while. My mind was weighed down by so many things to do for other people's accounting! Clients needed some attention, and I spent all day yesterday on that, so I feel very good about it!

I continue to focus on my food intake and light exercise (walking at lunch) and I continue to lose tiny bits of weight each week. If I can just stay focused through the holidays and remember how good it makes me feel when I eat sensibly and I keep moving, then I think the next 6 weeks will be great!

Slow and steady is what I'm doing here at work as well. It seems no matter how much I want them to go faster, it's just not going to happen. The truth is I want this Controller job, not the CFO job. If I can convert to perm, it will actually pay what I need to make. I love the job, I love the mission, I love the people......I just have to be patient. So, deep breath, and patiently just doing a good job.

Alright, time to get to work! Have a FUN and ACTIVE day everyone!!!
