Yeah Lynn, I just keep telling myself, get the project done and don't be greedy! The owners don't think it's a project, they think it's a career move...a long and happy career...

I think you've done such an excellent job in your transition to retirement, especially your incredible photography!

Weather...hmmm...should I comment? We are (finally) getting out of the foggy days and we are mid-seventies and gorgeous.

I'm looking at house swapping sites...any of you tried swapping your house? We might be in a pretty perfect place since we are 20 minutes from the beach, 25 to Monterey Bay, 45 to San Jose, 1.25 hours to San Francisco...but, will foreigners understand the need to drive?

CAROL...I'm guessing you'll be there soon enough (retired and doing what you CHOOSE to do), as time flies even after retirement. It did slow down that first summer I was off and realized, summer really is three months long! My busiest time of year would happen mid to late July as we neared our mid August school opening. Not having to worry about that and enjoying parks and doing whatever I wanted, made the summer last well into September. :D

Beautiful weather here and making us Midwesterners feel guilty about it! So much suffering out East with this storm and fires out west.... We've been sunny and mild. Still a tad too hot for me, but this heat that's been around lately has NO humidity to it. RARE that we beat out anyone weather-wise....

Yes, I've never been to Delaware, but it does sound strange. We go to Florida pretty often since it's on the way to the Caribbean islands. It's just so amazing to us, I guess because we have nothing like that anywhere here. We have the Central Valley that has the lowest point in the Mohave desert at 280 feet below sea level...but all through that region, you can see the mountains.

We have fires and flooding...but it's just not the same anywhere in our state that I can think of. Maybe it's that water is so precious here that if we were going to have an overrun of it, we would have diverted a hundred years ago.

My father talked about how when he was young and living in Ohio how they'd roll up the rugs and bring them upstairs if the river was likely to flood. I just couldn't understand that. But you see in New Orleans that a lot of the people that rebuilt put their houses up on stilts.

I guess it's what you're used to. Our newest property has an acre and at the top of the property, there's a grove of oak trees going up into the neighbor's property. We're clearing out the underbrush and cutting the low branches to keep them above 6 feet...but oaks are tougher to burn and we put ice plant down which doesn't burn. If you asked if we felt safe from fire...the answer would have to be no.

Carol, Delaware would probably be similarly strange to you lol. Our highest point is only some 400ft above sea level, I can see the Delaware River and bridges from the road near my house and it's about 5-6 miles away. We live on "high" ground.

Looks like the storm path changed quite a bit. Lap, I hope you're staying safe and dry!

Lap - I don't know if I just didn't put it together, but I didn't realize you lived there! Not that's it's much consolation, but thankfully the winds have been downgraded. The storm surge sounds crazy! I haven't been to NC...is it low like Florida? Florida has always seemed crazy to me, but I'm used to hills around the ocean. You go to Florida and go up to the 14th floor and all you see is water and flatness...

Laurie - I did send thoughts your way, when I was thinking of those I knew in the NC area, you (your grandbabies) were all that I could come up with.

Stay dry Jen!

I believe in good thoughts. You can call them prayers or anything you like, I believe in the ability of staying positive.

Stay safe people!

Yeah Heather, I hope your event doesn't get drenched! I'm so glad you're doing the art sales! Hopefully your new "interim" job goes along beautifully. I know you got through the 11th thing and hope it gets easier with time.

My group keeps working on me to not be "interim" so we are in opposite chairs! I know now that I want to be like Lynn! Busy with all kinds of volunteer or other stuff and NOT day-to-day work. Today one of the owners said that the deal wasn't closed with the CFO they were talking to and weren't sure they would. I re-iterated that I was happy to be "interim"...INTERIM people! sigh

HEATHER....Glad to hear your job is going well. And hoping all went well for you on 9/11. You have quite the story. We saw a report on that day that many first responders and rescuers in the days that followed have died later from close contact of asbestos! Their numbers are close to exceeding the 2900 that died from the actual attack! How terrible!!!!! They seem to be forgotten in the number of deaths but then maybe that's good. Who wants to give glory to the enemy b/c that's how these terrorists would look at it.

As for the storm.....Stay safe all who are in her path including the remnants path. Prayers for safety for all. I have "friends" (kind of lost contact) that live in Wilmington, NC just 10 min from the coast. Asked a mutual friend about them and they left staying with their daughter in Nashville (which will get the remnants with a ton of rain!).

Haven't started swimming yet.... Still busy getting these things I'm involved with going! Might be another week or two before it settles (that's my excuse for now, anyway!). But I've been consistent with running and the Crossfit. Today may go for a cycle. My quads are still barking at me from the squats! I aggravated it a bit by doing a walk run yesterday. They are a little better today but I'm thinking a nice cycle will help flush it out! :D

Hi Troops,

Hope everyone in the storm territory is safe and ready for Florence's fury. I live in Charlotte, NC, and am glued to the tube. Seems the path of this hurricane keeps changing. What we do know is that we will get a ton of rain and heavy winds. We're talking at a bare minimum of a foot of rain (probably more) with winds at least 35 mph. So I'm glued to the tube listening for what's the current plan.

I've done about all I can to prepare so here's hoping it's sufficient. I hope we don't have a lot of damage to homes because of trees coming down and then loss of power. Flooding is an issue too but I checked the flood plan and we're supposed to be good. We sit up on a hill and our subdivision isn't in the flood plan concerns. We've been having rain nearly every night--we don't need it with what's coming.

Prayers out for all who will be in the throes of this storm. Family members have been contacting us with offers of going to their homes but I don't think that's something we'll have to do nor has the area been given any suggestion of leaving for other parts UNLESS you know in the past you have had severe flooding issues with storms.

Hope all are doing well. Pool reopened this week so I'm back at the swim classes and that's helping my back. I was going downhill with it closed for over a week. My back sure responds to the swimming.

My 37 year old DIL who runs marathons, exercised regularly, eats a healthy diet and has always been healthy has developed a heart problem that requires her to have a pacemaker. She has another test to get done and then they will do the procedure in about 2 weeks. Boggles the mind what can suddenly appear. I've been busy with babysitting the little guy while both my daughter and DIL work through the medical issue and baby has been going through about 5 weeks of getting one ear infection or virus after the other. Until the pacemaker is done and tests show she's doing well DIL cannot drive so daughter has extra duty getting everyone to work, daycare, etc. To make things harder, her car broke down and the part will not be available until October so a week with no car (we loaned her one of our cars and we shared one car) until they finally got her a loaner.

It's just been one thing after the other this past month +. I'm hoping we're about to get a smoothing out of all these things.

In two weeks I'll be at the State Senior Games for my jewelry. We'll see if my work is good enough to win at the state level. I took a silver medal for the county. Fingers crossed!

Have to get dinner on so signing off.

Hope everyone is doing well and safe from this storm.

Heather, I read your post on FB. I've read it before, but it never ceases to be powerful emoticon

My daughter, many of you know, lives in South Carolina, near Hilton Head. They live in Bluffton, which is the last town on the mainland before you cross the bridge onto the island. It's only about a half hour from the Georgia state line. They are just outside of the cone of Florence and have decided to stay put. I'm not happy about it, but there's nothing I can do about it. I keep watching the storm track and as long as they stay outside the cone, I'm going to try not to worry. They will get rain and wind, most certainly, but they are not in the direct path. They have stocked up on food and bottled water and they bought a generator.

I don't usually ask this, but if you're into that, please send prayers.

Take care tomorrow, Heather. I'm sure others will understand the power of those memories.

Everyone on my FB feed is freaking out about Florence... We're north of where it's supposed to make landfall by quite a bit, but we've also had a *lot* of rain lately. The remnants of Gordon that rolled through this past weekend wiped out quite a few tents at the big local fine art fair. Heather, I hope your fair doesn't get hit like that! Hubby was using my ez up for his saw setup doing some flooring and it got damaged in the rain too. I'll have to buy a new one before my next event in October x.x

I really like my new job. It's still in the "I'm figuring things out" stage, so far not too hard.

I'm having a slightly difficult time being in Manhattan today. I keep thinking about 17 years ago and how everything was one way on Sept. 10 and totally different the next day. I haven't been here in the city on the anniversary yet, so tomorrow will be the first time I'm in the city on the date. I hope I'm distracted enough by my everyday life that I don't have too much anxiety about it. I hope..........

Do me a favor, my friends. Please send me good and healing thoughts tomorrow. I'm gonna need it. emoticon

WOW, Heather...I can't believe you are talking about your daughter's boyfriend! How did she grow up so fast?!?!?!? Hoping your new job is going well!

Hoping to start up swimming this week....It's been a few months and even before that, sketchy here and there stuff. Busy year this year with 4 volunteer jobs (supposed to be retired!), but hoping to get back into my three sports and do a triathlon next summer....we shall see....Keep saying it and don't.

One of my volunteer jobs is helping Parkinson patients at a boxing class. The right left and lateral move exercises really slow down the progression of the disease. I help them get their boxing gloves on and off, some to get their feet moving again as they get stuck in a rut sometimes, cheer them on and do the exercises along with them to be reminded about the form. The owner told me I could go to his Crossfit classes for free for doing this, so I started last Friday. I used him a few years ago for strength classes (before he did Crossfit) and forgot how much he likes squats! I must have done 50-60 of them on Friday! He used to say squats were the most important exercise a female can do! I had a female physical therapist for women only who used to say the same thing! UGH! Anyway.....here goes round two!

Florence is looking pretty scary! Heather...you might be OK on the weekend as She's to hit the Carolina area on Friday morning...then turn north. Hopefully, you won't see the likes of her until Monday or so? I hope your event goes well with GOOD weather!

Hi everyone!! I hope you all had a great weekend. I sure did! Football game with kid, and her boyfriend that I got to take to the game and hang out with. It all changes next week when he gets his license, but for one more week I'm hanging on as the needed driver!! :)

We also went to hubby's cycling club's annual picnic and it was nice, despite the chilly and rainy weather. Yesterday I worked on client stuff, got school supplies for the kid, and organized myself for the week! And now, back at the desk in Manhattan. Good times!!

I got my workout in yesterday. I must say it was a bit half-hearted, but I did it and I feel good for pushing myself to get it done. Today is the day off!

Stay safe if you are on the East Coast and this hurricane is coming toward you. For my very selfish sake, I hope it stays south because I have a big craft fair this weekend and I could use a good start to the season!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!!!
