Just wanted to add here that my relationship with Sydney is the absolute opposite of what I had with my parents. I mean, it couldn't be more different in any way than it is. I've worked hard at this and have been very thoughtful with how I'm raising her and interacting with her. Jen, you'll have an amazing relationship, because you too will be thoughtful and attentive!

Hope you feel better Carol!!

I would dearly love to experience grandchildren! Maureen has always been reluctant on the baby idea. Hubby has offered to be there nanny...and now that I'm going to retire I could help! My way of doing time management when I had my business out of my house was to get up in the morning, get my coffee and go to work. That way, I got it done. ...oh wait, I forgot, I'm a workaholic so that probably only works for me!

Jen - You two will decide on how you want to raise your boy and it will be great.

For one of the first times in my life, I really just don't want to go back to work tomorrow. I've been down with bronchitis and I feel like I want a weekend! I really think it's time to retire! Hubby has his last day on Thursday!

"No one has ever loved an other human being more than I love that child."

I feel that way about my kids, who are, of course, all grown up. Just wait till she gives you grandchildren! emoticon emoticon

I am having serious issues with time management. I seem to do better under deadlines (imagine that!) but I don't have a lot of deadlines. I plan (and God laughs) and I do get things done, just not the things I planned to get done. I can't decide if I've always been like this, or if it's because I'm working at home now, and my office is next door to my bedroom, so I can fool myself into thinking I have plenty of time, I can do it later. Since I'm not in the Mon thru Fri 8 to 5 box anymore, it's really easy to procrastinate.

The good news is, I'm busy and making an income, so I can pay the bills and am starting to pay down some debt. But there's the worry that if I don't get to the work, I won't get paid, and that will be that! So I feel guilty. I guess it's not easy to change your work ethic after 40-some years.

Pool, pool, pool.... I haven't been to the pool in a year. I just cannot get motivated. emoticon

Lol Heather, her response made me smile - that is a sign of a job well done! I love it! Boyfriend and AP classes! I guess I've been on spark for a while now ;)

I love reading about you guy's relationships with your kids. It's very different from my experience and it's great to see the variety. I'm excited for our boy and hopeful we can have a good relationship as he grows up.

Haha, I love hearing about Sydney...boyfriend...OMG she really is getting older! Depending on where she goes for college, those AP courses (assuming she aces the tests) will be worth a lot of money in college! Jay had seven and they accepted him as mid year sophomore! They gave him a four year scholarship and told him that he could use it for grad school if he wanted to continue there. Casie had about 5 AP credits and and when they screwed her over her foreign credits (which I had warned her about) she lost out on getting a minor in Spanish but was able to graduate in the four years.

I don't know if you are experiencing that phenomenon back east, but it's taking a lot of kids 5 years to get through here. The colleges are so impacted.

And speaking of wonderful children...my daughter is finishing up with working for Wanderlust (world wide yoga events) and she applied for a job for the SunDance film festival and she's made it to the final pool of choices. He asked her if she had any experience with managing and supervising volunteers and she was able to explain that at Wanderlust she managed as many as 300...I think this may get her the position. With the Aquarium, Wanderlust and this, her resume would be pretty stellar!

I told my work that I'd only do interim work as CFO and that they needed to get a replacement. If I don't like the replacement I'll be out of there! We are working at flipping our IRAs to Roth IRAs and the taxes are going to be in the high six figures...so we're going to sell some properties and figure it out. It's really been fun doing this piece and also deciding where our first big trip of retirement should be! A masted sailing vessel through the Panama Canal and into the rainforest...or a trip from Canada, to Hawaii, to Tahiti and then backpacking in New Zealand...or go live in Peru for 3 - 6 months...what do you think?

Carol, I'm not too surprised they fired the CFO. They clearly saw the ability in you and figured, I would bet, that you'll step up into the role because you can do it, and you are the type that always seems up for a challenge.

If I could make as much in retirement as I make working, I would retire in a moment. I mean, I wouldn't stop working, I'd just do other work......

Like craft shows, which start next weekend. I have one Saturday the 15th (pray for me that this tropical storm Florence goes somewhere out to sea), one on Sat the 22nd, Sun the 23rd and Sat the 29th. Hubby has a fine craft fair the weekend of the 29-30. I have one on Oct 6 which is also a garage sale, one on the 13th, one on the 21st and 27th of Oct at this point. I sure hope I can keep up the energy to do all of these. This is the time to make the money selling candles and candle holders!!!

I'm spending a good part of this weekend making candles. The Interim Controller gig at the ASPCA is seriously a dream come true, but it doesn't pay as much as it would if it were permanent and the benefits through the agency are amazingly expensive, so I need another source of income. So there's the push for all the candle shows. Not to mention, I absolutely love the shows and selling my candles!!! To me, it's not work at all, it's a super fun way to spend the day. And I've discovered that while some of the spring shows are decent, the money is made in the fall. Oh, and I still have clients to service through the CPA firm I own. Yikes!!!

Tonight is the first football game of the year. I am picking up my daughter's boyfriend on my way from the bus station to the game so we can watch it and see Sydney cheer, and we'll hang out with him at the game since he goes to another school and won't know anyone. He's absolutely besotted with Sydney, and he treats her like a princess. I'm so incredibly happy that if she's going to have a boyfriend, she has a very nice one that treats her well. He's also nice to me and my husband and is capable of carrying on decent conversations with us, so we like him for that too. I fear that my baby will break this kid's heart at some point, but for now, it's good.

Here's something else about my kid to share.....just because many of you have known me and my kid for many years......

She's taking AP Physics and AP Calculus BC with the same teacher this year. He's a guy we met at a party about 8 years ago. We had a mutual friend who had us both at their Octoberfest. Anyway, we hit it off with this guy and have been friendly off and on for years, occasionally getting together with him and his wife. OK, so fast forward to this year and he finally gets her in his classes. And he starts teasing her a bit. And says something like "we have this junior in the class who thinks she's smart enough to be here". Maybe not that exactly, but she's the only junior in the Calculus class. And he always teases the cheerleaders he gets in his class, insinuating they aren't smart enough, blah, blah......

So today I text her when she's on the bus on her way to school and I say don't let him get to you. He's teasing and also getting you ready for real life where no one cares if you're a cute cheerleader. Life is tough and he's preparing you for rigorous academic work. She texts back: I won't. I'm strong. I'm a boss a$$ bitch. And I just smile and think, "my work here is done". :) No one has ever loved an other human being more than I love that child. Maybe as much, OK, I'll give you that. But not more. She's the most amazing human being I know. emoticon

OK, enough about me and my kid.

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend. I hope you eat well and workout and also relax and just have FUN!!!

I swam at our local Y for 8 years, then we moved. I have to figure out where to swim now that we are settled in our house.

Heather - When do your craft fairs start?

We are back from vacation ... but I'm sick! I caught a cold, I think because of all the smoke and junk in the air, it brought my immune system down...now I have bronchitis and it totally sucks!

They fired our CFO yesterday when I came to work! Now I have to straddle both jobs! I told them I would act as interim, but I don't want to be CFO, I want to retire! We met with our financial planner and the numbers work out that if I quit, I can pull as much as I'm currently making...so it begs the question...why wouldn't I retire?

The pool I've been going to at my husband's college has become more and more difficult to use. Due to the college merging with a university and resulting personnel changes, the hours have been cut drastically, and I just can't ever go when it's open (and it's only open 2 days a week!). I toured my local YMCA this week, and I swam a little in their pool today. Did a water aerobics class too. Change is hard. I do not look forward to having to pay to go exercise... I sure did enjoy when it was free, but times have changed.

Good Morning!!! I was traveling yesterday and didn't get to put up a thread. Looks like everyone else was busy with the holiday as well.

We are getting a last blast of heat here for the next few days. It's sunny and hot and also humid. But we were in Maryland this weekend and being down there in the heat and humidity made me actually miss NJ and our summer up here. It's just never as brutally hot here as it is there.

I'm happy it's September. I'm ready for some craft fairs and school stuff and football, etc. I'm also getting ready to start commuting into the city again. It's been great working from home, but I think it will be very nice to connect in person with my new team.

Today is a workout day! Gotta work out inside b/c it's so hot outside!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!!!
