Haha, we have a sister like that...but she "knows" that she is an expert in diet and nutrition!

Sigh...my boy came home last night! I haven't seen him for two years, which is way too long! It's funny because it felt normal and right. He was finding the same thing. He and my daughter took off today to do a kayak and camp trip up at Point Reyes on the ocean. It's a kayak in and camp/hike place. I'm happy for them!

Carol, that stinks on the allergy. You have so many allergies to manage, I feel for you. I very luckily have no allergies to food. I'm very happy for that.

Enjoy your time off next week with the Italian family!!

I forgot that hubby uses pineapple juice in his "sludge". I think that's what makes it more palatable. Hubby struggles mightily to understand nutrition. I gave up years ago trying to explain calories, protein, carbs, and anything else nutrition-wise to him. What makes is worse is he thinks he understands it and then explains his ideas to me, which don't make any sense because they are some mish-mash of what his parents taught him in the 70's when they suddenly dropped all processed food including any sugar from their diets, and his made up ideas of what nutrition terms mean plus a few things he's picked up from reading various things. It's maddening. :)

I'm enjoying the day at home working!!!

Sigh...I just figured out that I'm allergic to whey powder now - bummer! I just ordered the protein powder that I (didn't) react to, which is about $50 a can...and now I can't use it. I thought I'd try pea protein to see if I can handle that...which will just about run the gamut of protein powders for me. I throw kale and spinach into all of our smoothies. We get fresh berries year round and that's a real bonus! I can use almond, flax or coconut milk...which I usually just use orange or carrot juice.

My Italian son is here!!! It's soooo nice to have him here! He and my daughter are going off on a backpacking trip, which should be really fun for them. I have to stay and work.

His mom comes next week and I can't wait!

Hi folks

Heather I've been doing a similar thing for my bedtime snack. A scoop of chocolate whey protein (premier or pure have been my brands because of the ingredients, no Splenda and no sugar alcohols), unsweetened almond milk, a tbs of chia seeds for fiber and a few frozen berries for taste.

I have to be particularly careful about not adding too many carbs to mine. Milk and yogurt have too much lactose sugars in them for me unfortunately. Fruits other than berries are similarly too high in simpler sugar.

Laurie, I use Shakeology protein mix currently because I'm doing a BeachBody challenge and that is part of the package. It's crazy expensive, so I'm not sure I'll keep using it, but it tastes good and is full of all kinds of micro nutrients that are supposed to be good for me.

I take a scoop of powdered protein (could be soy or whey protein powder from the grocery or nutrition store too) add 1 cup of milk, a handful of frozen grapes (I buy them when they are cheap and freeze them, they are awesome), three frozen strawberries (same deal, I freeze them myself when they are in season and cheap) and a banana (either fresh or frozen pieces). I then whirl that around in the blender and it makes a very filling shake. Alternatively, you can use yogurt instead of the milk, which I do sometimes and hubby does all the time. Hubby also sometimes makes what he calls "sludge". Lol. It's vanilla yogurt, kale, honeydew melon, protein powder and sometime other greens like spinach. It's a lot sharper of a taste, but it's a way to get veggies in easily. It's not as sweet as the fruit, but he likes it.

If you have bought fruit of most kinds that is starting to maybe get a little soft, freeze it. I do this with all kinds of berries, bananas, grapes, pineapple, peaches, etc. I imagine it would work well for watermelon too, but not sure on other kinds of melons. I get frustrated when we buy fruit that goes soft before we can eat it all, so I've started freezing it to save it. Then I put it in my morning shakes.

Good morning everyone!! Welcome to a new week. I'm feeling pretty good today, despite our gloomy weather.......I won't complain about rain because so many places need the rain!!

My energy level just plummeted over the weekend. I'm thinking it's that time of the month when I just drag myself around for a day or two. Today I feel more energetic!! Hopefully I can keep up that energy level all day.

I think some breakfast will also help me stay focused, so I'm off to make my fruit and protein shake!!

Have a great day everyone!!
