Kourtney - I emailed the gym. I hope it goes really well having family come visit! Jay, Maureen and their German girl came this last weekend and it was so nice having them here!

I hope the two of you get awesome jobs! I was so fortunate to fall into the job I have. It's amazing to be so appreciated. Usually, there's a fair amount of discomfort when I come onboard because I bring change, but these guys are super happy with the changes I'm making.

AND this is the last job for me! It will take me about a year to get things where I want, but then I will retire. Hubby retires in August and I know that's going to make me want to join him!

Awww thank you Carol! It’s Orange Theory Fitness (I use the one in Natick, MA but it shouldn’t matter). *blush* you’re so sweet.

Thank you for the encouragement, Heather! How’s your search going?

***

So, we hung out with a bunch of friends today at this event called porchfest, which involved people playing live music all around the town. It was a good time, but I was a bit moody today. I am changing meds due to some side effects, and I’m slightly paranoid that my moodiness is related, but I’m trying not to get to in my head about it.

This upcoming week is really hectic! My parents come on Friday, I have a whole slew of interviews (on the phone and in person) this week, several networking events, plus trying to work out and whatnot.

I tried to mow the lawn this past week, but our mower was giving me trouble so the lawn is like 1/3 mowed. Because I’m so busy, Mike is going to finish it up.

xoxo

Heather - If you do, let me send you a bunch (free-I don't need them!) and try. Also, have you guys considered doing plates (zen sand gardens, cheese plate, etc). Those go over very big here.

Kourtney - Can you give me the name of the work out place and I could send you a gift cert?

California made the top 5 for the economy! Think about that! We're in with the United States, Japan, China...isn't that amazing? Bolthouse is processing and selling 6 million pounds of carrots a DAY!

Hi all,

This week has been busy so apologies for the late check in. Lots of social stuff with friends from my old job (oh boy do you hear some gossip after a couple drinks in... let's just say I know a bit more about a particular coworker who was always very nice to my face...) as well as job application stuff.

Oh and working out! I did 3 workouts this week: spin, personal training, and orange theory. Next week is the last personal training session I have in my class pack, and I will probably not renew til I have a new job :(. BUT I still have spin classes on my pass AND I really liked orange theory so I'm hopeful that I can coerce Mike into being cool with me buying a class pass there (for obvious I-don't-have-a-job reasons, we're being more careful with spending).

Food hasn't been great so I need to get back on that. Social outings don't help with that, of course. I'd like to see all this working out pay off, so it'd be best to not eat the way I have been....

I've also gotten some stuff done around the house this week too. Although I'd really like to not have to mow the lawn this afternoon, which I absolutely HAVE to do. *sigh*

Job hunting has been going very well. I've applied to 34 jobs at 19 companies, and have heard back for interviews (phone interviews to start) with 7 companies. So definitely some progress. :D My top choice emailed me today to set up an interview, so I'm very excited about that.

OK off to make some coffee before a 2nd round phone interview. Wish me luck. :)

Jen, I hate to think what might have been in that stuff that I let her put on her hand last summer. I really hadn't thought about the ingredients. And I'm glad you raised your prices a bit! What you do is valuable!

We have revamped our website and started a new one for our candles. This is not a sales pitch as that's not allowed here. But we spend so much time together talking about our lives so I want to share this with you. www.fallingwoodcandle.com www.fallingwoodstudio.com Take a look! This is the direction were are going in our lives in our attempt to be self-sufficient. That and my CPA work is what we hope will make us independent and not reliant on outside employment in the future.

In the meantime, I'm looking for employment that will help pay the bills! I'd love to do temp work that helps me bridge the gap until I can get enough clients to support us, so that's one of the goals!

Off to get some work done, apply for jobs, make candles, and get ready for my show tonight. I hope a lot of folks come out to buy things for mom at the fire house tonight!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Oh, and Carol, if I think I can find a market for your items, I'll be in touch! I'm all about selling things these days!!

Lap - I agree, take it easy and whine to us! We're here for you. Your frustration is totally understandable!

Jen/Heather - I've been trying to talk my daughter into do henna tats for years...I wonder if I'd get further now... She's working for Wanderlust, running the yoga events all over the place. It's not full time and doesn't pay that well. She also teaches yoga and does art classes and such. I wonder if she would consider that now...

I did craft fairs for years and did especially well with the ren fairs. I did these head adornments (hehe) for kids that brought people in in droves. If either of you are ever interested I'd send you a couple...or a thousand lol

I forgot that one event post included my sign with prices! Haha I've actually since raised them... to $10, $15, $20

Still waaaay cheaper than the boardwalk shops, and I'm probably a bit more upfront about what I put in my henna.

Jen, I checked out your website again and I still love it!

My daughter got a henna tattoo on her hand and wrist last summer at the Wildwood Boardwalk. It cost me $45, or maybe $40. Your prices are unbelievably reasonable........

Take it easy! That is so disappointing, the Dr has a good point but I also understand being bummed about missing the event. I hope you're feeling better soon and recovered for your trip.

I'm a painter and work mostly in oils. I also dabble in pinstriping (think hot rods and motorcycles) and henna. So I sell things like prints, small originals, upcycled decorative bits, and henna tattoos depending on the event/audience. I have a website, theartofhintz.com if you'd like to take a peak.

I was up to swimming last night and it felt good to move and be in the water. Picked up my spirits a bit too. Looking forward to the weekend, I teach, it's my Dad's birthday, and we'll be busy visiting all the moms!

Hi All!

Sorry to hear folks are feeling isolated! Bummer when you feel like that. In today's world of modern tools to do things we used to go out of the home today, such as laundry, we ARE becoming more isolated. I used to go to the laundromat and my girlfriend would meet me there. We'd talk and catch up on things, cheer each other when it was needed. It was some human contact to look forward to.

I'm finding since I've reached semi-retirement (I work from home part time) that isolation is easy to come by. It's another reason I like my swim classes throughout the week.

Well I have some whining to do--just need to blow off the frustration. I developed diverticulitis nearly 2 weeks ago and spent half a day in the hospital. I opted to go home as nothing they were doing in hospital would do anything better than being at home. Pain was pretty terrific but with the meds gradually improved.

The GI specialist I saw a few days after the hospital said he had no problem with my swimming (Senior Games are this Friday) but he highly doubted I'd have any stamina for it. He was really sweet about my disappointment about the games. He told me to look at things another way: "just think of all the good you've done for your health and body this year in training as I did. " That's a big win in his book. True, but...I worked so hard to get ready for these games and now to not be able to do any event?! Drats!!

My meds were finished on Sunday night and yesterday I went to the pool and did a bit of swimming. Things seemed to be not so bad so I thought just maybe I could swim one event and not with any speed but at least enough to get in and do 50 meters. Last night the abdominal aching started back up and today has just gotten worse and worse. A call to the GI doc and I'm on another round of meds and with this renewed pain I KNOW there's no swimming at all for a bit.

I just feel down about it. In 20 days I leave for a road trip from NC to WI for the Bead and Button Show where I'm supposed to be a teaching assistant in a metals class. Just hope I'm fully recovered by then.

Well, enough of the feeling sorry for myself.

Craft shows can be disappointing at times. Lots of reasons why they don't produce but when they do...is it ever grand? Sorry you had a low turnout for your show. What crafts to you make? I make jewelry--metal fabrication mostly and occasionally a beaded piece.

Hope the job transition goes well for you Heathhill. Change makes for unsettled feelings as you go through it. I wish you well with what you're working on.

Gotta go lie down as the aching is coming up again. Need to rest.

Hope all are well and that things are improving on all fronts.
Hugs,
Lapperoo

Thanks Heather :)

I hate it when that happens! I've had a couple with no sales at all. I did come out with $50 after paying my percentage to the organizer. And luckily she let me do a percentage instead of the original flat fee on account of the poor reception. But I want to see my profits at $100 or more for a day's work.

The concert was really really good last night, and had me feeling a little more like myself. If I feel up to it I'll swim after work, but it was a late night so I'll play that by ear.

I have a teaching gig this weekend for the county and I still need to pick a lesson plan.... Art suitable for kids, but not too crafty.... Pinterest to the rescue!

And btw Jen, I netted exactly $6 at my candle fair last Friday night. So I get what it's like to be excited about a craft fair that then doesn't go very well.......we just have to keep on going!!

Jen, I'm sorry you are feeling isolated. Remember, I'm here if you want to chat! You're making such a big change in your life and it's a hard one. Everything is changing and that's not always easy. Rest now while you can........your body needs it.

I'm feeling a tad isolated as well as I'm now in my fourth week of changing my whole life again. I'm going to get this CPA thing rocking and if at all possible I'm not going to take an outside full time job. I want a different life and the only way to get that different life is to make it happen for myself. Hubby and I are determined to make this work!!!

I'll share our new website as soon as we can launch it, later today!!

I have my unemployment phone call at 9:20 and I'm honestly nervous that somehow I won't get approved for unemployment payments. I really need them so I hope I'm just being nervous. It's always something......

I worked out last night and I feel good about that. I think I'll work out this morning too. And I have a meeting with a client later today. They don't pay much but there's potential for growth, so I'm going to stay positive and engaged!!

Hi folks!

Heather, I'm glad the shows went well! I did a mother's day craft fair yesterday and had henna in the spa room - it didn't go very well though. The spa room wasn't very well attended and I didn't make what I'd consider a days pay.

Oh well. I have a better fair lined up in two weeks!

I've been feeling a bit isolated by my fatigue. This weekend having been a big event at my favorite local brewery didn't help. Add in that I never did make much ties with current coworkers and I'm just lonely. Gonna try to work on that this week...

I've got a ticket to go see Ani DiFranco tomorrow, so hopefully that's a good start.

Hi everyone!! I hope you all had great weekends. I had two candle shows and I did pretty well at them. I'm not retiring off these but still the positive cash flow is great!

We are working hard to launch the on line businesses and gather clients for me, and also I'm looking for a full time job. We are super busy.

The sun is out and it's beautiful today and that helps the energy level a lot!!

Later today I'll walk on the treadmill and keep the blood moving and the weight coming off. Being out of work is always a good way for me to find time to work out and also to cook. :)

Have a FUN and ACTIVE week!!!
