Heather, that is unnerving and stressful! I agree, let's share the love and encourage the positive.

I've had a restful weekend for the most part, both active and passive rest, andteaching did go well yesterday. I'll get a little studio time in this evening too hopefully.

Oh dear.

Kourtney, I got fired a year ago on the same day you did. Everyone knew it wasn't me. Sometimes, it's just a horrible fit and it's really hard to make it work. The most competent and motivated people in the world can still end up in a bad position. My advice, although it's hard to take, is shake it off as quickly as you can. Do not see it as a personal reflection on you. Take stock in all the positives you bring to a job. And then get back out there and find a better fit. I'm really sorry because I know this feeling and it just sucks. You know you are good and you know it had to do with the other person in the mix, and you have to focus on that. Man, I'm really sorry.

Jen, I'm happy for you and also I totally understand your concern. I really hope it's nothing and you are going to be fine and continue in the pregnancy. Pregnancy and fertility can be a lot more complex than we think. When we are younger, if we are sexually active, we are concerned with doing everything we can not to get pregnant. Then, we want to get pregnant and we find out it can be a little harder than we thought it might be. Stay quiet, rest and do what your doctor says to do. I'll keep you close in my thoughts.

And, now my little bit of news......on Friday, I got one of the emails I always get about new job postings in the area. Remember, I've been essentially looking for a job off and on for four years. Anyway, the job posting was from the same accounting firm my current employer uses for audit, tax and help in recruiting. It's how I got the job. And the posting is my exact job description. The outside accounting firm only recruits for themselves and their clients, so I'm pretty sure it's my job out there on the website being recruited for. What the heck? So, I tried to get in to see the HR head on Friday, but I had to leave for a wake. I've been holding on to this stress in the back of my mind all weekend. I'll have to face it on Monday and ask why the posting is up. Maybe it's a mistake, but maybe not. Ugh. My employers seems to be loathe to let people go, and I've had absolutely no negative feedback, so who knows. But who needs this stress?

Let's all just share the love here. Because this is one difficult life sometimes. Just getting through it can be a challenge with all of the ups and downs, but especially the downs. I'm going to eat well, exercise and pray for positive outcomes for all of us.

Oof I'm so sorry Kourtney. I hope the next job is a much better situation. Good luck and take heart in the support of your coworkers, I hope they'll be good references for you

I'm up early ish today, heading off to teach a two hour art class at a local community center. I'm not quite feeling it today, but hopefully once I'm there it clicks. I've been very very tired lately, so not feeling doing much of anything.

Since this is kinda my separated safe space, I think I can tell you all - I'm pregnant and almost 6 weeks along. But I've been having some spotting this week and I'm terrified of the chance of miscarriage. My Dr is testing my hormone levels and once I'm in the 7th week I'll have an ultrasound to look for a heartbeat. But for now, I'm just kinda stressed out and sleepy. I've got a good support crew in my life, and I'll be ok. But not knowing really sucks, and I'm having a hard time being positive.

I got fired today.

There's a part of me that's relieved, b/c now I don't have to go through the whole rigamarole of deciding if I should leave (I haven't been happy for awhile...) and the stress of transitioning work to someone else. But still, I would've liked to leave on my own terms.

On the plus side, everyone who has worked with me is shocked/appalled/etc. so at least the vast majority of people I worked with felt I was competent. Just not the one who got the final say.

_sigh_

Thanks for the link Carol. I take it intermittently. Like every other healthy thing I try to focus on, I can't seem to consistently do it every day. I know I'm D deficient, as is really everyone else in the NE and probably Midwest in the winter. D deficiency is part of diabetes as well as I read somewhere. The doc suggested I get back on D, so I'm doing that! Which reminds me, it's time to take my iron pill.

So my old company, the one I worked for and built up for 15 years that I left two years ago, has been sold again. I sent congrats to the President, as I'm consistently keeping in touch just in case they need me to come and fix their financial mess. Of course, they'd have to pay me quite a bit. :) It's always good to keep positive connections, no matter what, because you never know what might happen.....

I figured out yesterday that I really do suffer from seasonal affective disorder. Every single winter I start looking for a job because I'm so unhappy with my job. But, it's not the job. It's just the weather and the darkness, etc. In past years I would spend time in the winter day dreaming about and planning my summer vacations and that would help lift my mood. This year I am forced to go on a family vacation in summer to a place that's cold, so I think that was really driving my anger about it. Now that I've really figured out the problem, it's time for a solution. Vitamin D will help. Exercise will help. Also, I think next winter I will plan a short trip somewhere warm and sunny, like Florida or the Caribbean, to give me something to look forward to in the middle of February or March.

Do we want to do a challenge? If so, do we want to each pick our individual goals and then post about meeting or not meeting them weekly? Or do we want to do something like what I did on another team years ago. We essentially picked a "place" we would all walk to. So, we imagined we all started at one point and walked to another. We each added our weekly mileage to a tracker thread, and then one person was in charge of compiling the total miles per person and then for the whole team for that week. We then tracked our progress from start to finish on a map.

I get this is a swimming team, so maybe we want to swim somewhere? Although all of us aren't swimming right now, so maybe we total up our miles and "travel" across a sea or ocean. We could also assign some standard distance for food tracking, say a 1/4 mile for tracking food for a day? We could do the same for water consumption or strength training too.

For me, being part of a team challenge made me work out more because I wanted to add my contribution to the progress. But this group is pretty self motivated anyway, so maybe you guys won't really love this idea and you have other ideas. The good thing about us is we've been together quite a while and we can clearly be honest if we don't like an idea and we have another one!!

So, let me know your thoughts. If we want to do this team traveling, then I would volunteer to track everything.

Have a great Thursday!! The sun is out here!! emoticon

Hi all,

I'm making some good progress on my goals - have tracked 3x this week and have been on here a bit :). I signed up for personal training today and my first session is bright and early in the morning.

I should go to sleep to rest up, but I'm trying to wind down a bit. I've been working too many hours the last couple weeks, and I'm stressed and blergh. I have a new-ish boss who not only doesn't seem impressed w me at all / it feels like satisfy him, but also the new boss seems to adore my coworker who is a complete and total moron. *eye roll*

xoxo

Yeah, I don't understand why Spark has made team seem much less important. I would have dropped Spark after the first year if it wasn't for this team!

Heather - Do you take vitamin D? lef has some great info...which you may already know all this

I'm on my weirdo protocol so I get only organic, fresh veggies (which is not that hard)...except it's actually hard to get enough calories when you have a new job! I'm trying to pack more calorie-dense food so that I don't start feeling woozy again - lol, I forgot to eat breakfast, then we had meetings and I finally got to stop at 3 and realized what I had done. I wondered why I had a headache...gee.

The teams don't seem to be as important to spark as they could be. I know when I looked at the app a long time ago I didn't download it because I couldn't get to the teams that way.

I'm here to track food!! But stopped by to say hi. :)

I also logged my food yesterday and have started doing so for today. I downloaded the spark app to give it a try. Odd that it seems you can't get to the teams through the app.

Look at this - second post this week! I also logged my food yesterday (and despite eating Indian food, ate fewer points than I expected).

I have decided to try personal training for a bit - for 6 45min sessions to be exact. There's a women's-only gym near my work that looks promising. I've sent them an email but if I don't hear anything then I'll give them a call tomorrow and schedule my first session, maybe for Wednesday?

The BS personal stuff I referenced last week is gradually getting better. Physically, I'm doing better than I was. Now it's all emotional stuff, but I think focusing on my health will help w that.

I'm always down for a challenge. I'm on week 2 of a 9 week "self-focus" challenge, with the goal being to gradually get back into exercise and eating better by making small progress each week. If we're doing a challenge, I'll probably choose something from that to "report on.

xoxo

Hi folks!

I really need to replace the batteries in my scale at home to keep track. I've been doing really well lately at making salads and getting up in the morning to make my breakfasts.

My Dad has officially crossed into diabetic and my Mom is pre-diabetic now, my genetic chances don't look so great right now o.o

I think I'd participate in a challenge, it sounds like maybe it'd be a good team goal

Hi guys!! I hope you had a great weekend!

Carol suggested last week maybe we need to have a team challenge. Workout minutes, food logging, etc. What are your thoughts? If we do it, we can have a thread in the "Challenges" forum.

I'm feeling energized. I know it's because the sun is out. I really try to keep my spirits up during winter, but the hard truth is I get depressed in the winter. I get exhausted from the cold and darkness. I've got to find a way through it better as I get older......maybe I just move south!!

I'm focusing on food intake again, and feeling good about it. It really does make me feel better when I eat better. I wish I could remember that when I'm in the depths of winter and feeling down......

I'm going outside at lunch to soak up a little sunshine. Cold or not, at least the sun is out!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day!!
