Lapperoo, I'm a CPA with over 20 years experience in corporate financial management, and your processes sound very good to me! We are a $100MM a year company with a pretty complex accounting and distribution suite of software and even with all of our sophistication, sometimes bills get misplaced or not sent by a vendor. The owner knows that, he's just being cranky with me.

The UPS invoice was stuck in the warehouse because of a dispute on a shipping rate for a customer. The warehouse didn't inform us. In my experience, this happens a lot when you have various departments involved in the flow of documents and information. I've only been here 7 months, so I haven't been able to totally impress my system of organization on all departments yet, but give me time and I would........ emoticon

Your training sounds great! Good luck at the games!!

Hi All,
Been busy busy here and I was out of town so have some catching up to do both work and Spark.

Heather: hope the job interview gets worked out. Sounds like the owner where you currently work doesn't really know how to manage a business. Occasionally a bill will not be received but for the most part accounts should be set up to automatically bill and your file folder should have a note on it giving the monthly billing date. UPS and FedEx I always paid as each invoice came in. I kept a file folder with all the slips showing the tracking number and as each bill came in I would attach all the slips to the appropriate invoice. Keeping all the slips together also let me see if I was missing an invoice. Being on "hold" with UPS/FedEx tells me this has happened several times so why are their invoices not reaching the business?

I also marked invoices PAID with the date, the check number and the amount paid. This way I could always speak with the billing dept of said company and tell them their invoice number and the rest of the details on my payment(s). If I ever had to speak with someone regarding a bill, I would make out a note giving the date, to whom I spoke and the details of what was covered in the conversation. I kept all the invoices within a file in reverse chronological order (newest one on top). If I paid by phone I always got a confirmation number. It's a matter of organization and one person should handle all the invoices and bill paying (unless it's a huge business). If multiple people are paying bills, they should all be doing it exactly the same way and with the same notations so anyone could open a file and follow along.

I've had bosses that knew to company business but NOT know the office portion. If you use a program such as QuickBooks, boss can check any detail at any time and not have to mess with what you're doing. It prevents errors and over/under payments.

I feel your pain! Hope you find a better position elsewhere.

I've started gearing up for the Senior Games in late spring. The stroke coach is having me try swimming the first half of a lap at my usual pace and from halfway to the end of the lap go full out with the strongest kicks I can do. We're going to gradually keep adding distance as I need to do 50 yds for two of the categories and 100 for the third category. Not sure I've got enough
stamina to do 100 but I can withdraw the day of the meet if I can't do it.

Using her method I went from 29 seconds on 25 yds to 27 and then 26. Now I've got to see how I can do on 50 yds.

Calgalfox: how do you find the houses to flip? It seems like it's a lot of work but I hear folks do really well if they know what they're doing. What kinds of things do you take on to do yourself vs hiring a professional?

Time to get back to some of the paperwork. Have a great week folks!

Heather, that is weird! I hope you manage to meet up with the other company soon and that it all goes well.

Busy teaching schedule :) do you mostly teach private lessons or through a school? I have my first county art class tomorrow, in excited and a little nervous. I have a lesson based on Yayoi Kusama and dots as a way to create an artwork. Wish me luck, it might only be my cousin's kids that show up lol

I spun and swum this week. Sticking to my routine, but there were also a lot of cookies in my life... Working toward being better.

The interview got moved because of snow!! I took the day off and I easily could have made the interview, but the people I was supposed to meet couldn't get there!! AAAAHHH!!!!

Now we are trying to reschedule for next week, but the current job is going to get suspicious if I'm out too much, so it's a juggling game.

This place is weird........we missed paying a vendor because we didn't have invoices from them, and then we had to use Amex to pay them so they would take us off hold (it's UPS and they can be cranky). When it was explained to the boss, he snapped back by email "it's unacceptable!" Well, yes, it's a problem but it happens and honestly it's not my problem you won't listen to me when I tell you to lease fixed assets and you won't, or to finance the AR and you won't, or to just get statements regularly from vendors and you snap that we should know how to just pay them from invoices! Ugh.......working for an owner instead of a bigger organization is turning out not to be my forte.

Well, it's Friday, so yay!!! I'm gonna work out, and work on client stuff, and enjoy my weekend!!!

Haha, we are no moguls, but it's a lot of fun to flip houses. Every day is a new work out. I am amazed at how you can learn to do anything with a house if you have youtube! My husband just took out a wall and built an archway instead. I found everything he needed on youtube.

I hate it when pools are closed! It sounds like a totally crazy schedule, I hope you have a lot of fun with it!

I have been swimming every week this year, but this week the pool is closed for the university's spring break. Boooo.
Next week my schedule is CRAZY with piano recital (i'm the teacher, so I have lots of work to do!) and accompanying; I am working with 5 different schools, and I have a rehearsal at each one to prepare for performances at events on Saturday 3/17 and Tuesday 3/20. Maybe I can swim Tues morning 3/13. Glad I practiced piano today after my students' lessons!
All the best to you, Heather, with your interview. Carol, I hope "flipping" is worth the time and effort you'll be putting into each house! I do not have the capital or the know-how to be a real estate mogul.

Yeah, I've been watching your weather - it looks crazy!

I've decided it's high time to retire and work at flipping houses full time! I'll tell you though, it's hard work to physical labor eight to ten hours a day! I'm going to be in incredible shape.

My sister just recently retired, so we're going to talk about stuff we could do together. Maybe do a training or troubleshooting business...or something with ceramics...who knows - haha.

My hubby hits 67 in August and he will retire and start drawing social security. He has a little pension, too. Plus, we have five houses rented out...well, actually four since our daughter is living for free in one of them.

Good Morning!! What a weekend!! The monster snow storm took down trees and power lines all over! Oh, and cable and internet service is down at home. I'm so grateful that all that I lost was internet. I'm safe, family is safe, house is not damaged, and we didn't lose any trees. That's a win after a storm like this!!

Carol, I must have missed that you left your job! Congrats! I'm sure you are just as busy as before!

My interview got moved due to the storm, so I don't go now until Thursday. I'm really looking forward to it. I'd like to find a better fit for me. This place is not awful like the last place, but it's not awesome either. I know work is hard and not always fun, but it can be done in an environment better suited to my goals. I've been looking for a job for about 4 years now off and on. I think I can really sense the better places now and I'd like to land in one. I'll keep you posted!

Shoveling snow was my workout this weekend. I'm beat!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE week!!
