I used a moov tracker for a while, but the battery didn't last long and I've had issues with the app being a little buggy. All in all, not bad for a cheap tracker though. I got mine on sale and only paid $35 for it. It's not the most accurate in identifying your stroke and very bad at detecting exercises like an elliptical machine. I've had trouble with the Bluetooth staying connected while on a bike or running/walking outside, but that could be my phone and not the tracker.

In other news, lazy day for me today though it probably shouldn't be. I ate entirely too much yesterday celebrating a friend receiving recognition in the SCA for his service to our community. Sticking to light foods today, and considering giving food tracking a try again. I never liked the spark tracker much because I cook from scratch and not from recipes. But if anyone has a favorite food app, I'm curious to hear about it!

I use a heart rate monitor to track, it beeps if you are under/over your heart rate range. I don't count laps, so this is a good way to know I'm hitting the sweet spot.

My pool is empty because it needs an upgrade. We are remodeling the house first, then the pool so no swim time until then emoticon

I have my new CycleOps bike trainer that I use and then the remodeling is an excellent workout. I've been sanding floors for 7 hours and I can tell I'm going to be hurting tomorrow - lol.

Hi! I dance, and walk on the treadmill and do workout DVDs. I'd love to swim again, but right now my life doesn't allow the time for it.

It's fun to have so much activity here!! For new folks, we start a new chat thread each week so keep on chatting with us!! It's really fun to have lots of people at the party!

Today I did my treadmill workout, and now I'm off to the store for groceries. Tonight I'm cooking Indian Butternut Squash and Green Beans, Chickpeas, and Chicken Tikka Masala. Woo hoo!!!

All this talk about trackers is interesting.

What sort of workouts are people doing? Does anyone follow the swimming site on active.com?

Anyone out there on a masters team, or training for an event?

Today I cross trained on the elliptical (no ankle problem) and lifted weights.

I am thinking about the MOOV. I swam 40 laps today, total of 108 laps this week..Like 3 1/4 miles. 4 miles this year. The local YMCA is doing a hundred mile swim thing this year. I've never kept track.

Regarding a fitness tracker, I ordered a Speedo shine 2 (aka Misfit Shine 2 Swimmer's Edition). It cost me 80 bucks. According to reviews, it counts laps as well as steps, and the app can connect to SparkPeople too. It does not have a digital readout, just 12 LED lights arranged like a clock face. Mine should arrive in the mail soon!!! I will try to post in this group and let you all know what I think after I try it out.

I swam 40 minutes today, 1000 yds. Personal victory!!! Also cooked a healthy meal for my family and drank my 8 cups of water. A great day!

Jen -I got the CycleOps that Heather's hubby uses. It's very nice and you ride the bike you're used to, so that's a huge bonus. I have endomitriosis on my colon and it causes my back to hurt on long rides (really, only on 75 miles or more...so I can't complain much), but I bought a special bike called a softride, it has no seat post and so there is no jarring of your back. By getting the cycle trainer, you put your bike in it and there is even a piece that you can buy to "do hills". It's great.

Happy to have squeezed in a swim today; this is in addition to yoga: every day starts with yoga no matter what!

Hi Swimmers! My 4yo is recovering nicely from his Monday surgery; I think his Dr will confirm that at follow-up this coming Monday. I plan to take him back to preschool in the morning, and I really want to spend some of my alone time exercising.

My hubby is a grouch sometimes, but overall he is handling HIS recovery well. Tomorrow marks 4 weeks since he had foot surgery. He is trying to be independent when possible, but sometimes he causes himself unnecessary pain in the process. Oy... We'll make it through!!

Hey Jahinzty (sorry if I didn't quite get the spelling right!) I am averaging 1000 yards at the moment - will try for 1200 soon!

Today was cross training: walked 2.5 miles in 45 minutes on the treadmill, followed by 15 minutes of light weights. Normally I would do the elliptical, but I thought I would give my ankle some more rest; it seemed walking would be better. Not a medical opinion, just my instinct!

Made split pea soup with ham for dinner with a beets and artichoke salad with simple homemade vinaigrette dressing and a little parsley and feta.

Crazy day at work with a kind of strange personnel issue. If everyone just put their personal issues aside and did the work, life would be a lot easier for all of us. Of course, maybe then there would be no need for managers...... emoticon

Hi Everyone :)

I got my swim tonight, it was a tough one and I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere - but I made my 1200 yards in just over 30 minutes.

Carol, what kind of trainer did you get? Some of the folks I work with have been talking about trainers lately. It sounds like a great thing to have.

Laurie, join us! dip a toe back in :) I know I was making a lot of bad choices, I've been doing better lately though and trying to build on the momentum.

Hi all
I'm lurking again. Welcome to the new folks!

Pebble7, what part of Cleveland are you in? I grew up in the southeast suburbs and now I live in the Akron area.

We had temps down to -5 and no higher than 10 for the last week. The last few days have been a regular heat wave... 37 today!!

I have been sorely neglecting my food and fitness and I am feeling it. My weight's up, I'm out of breath, etc. I so need to get back to the pool... and I'm so not motivated emoticon

This is what is entertaining me as I read posts....

Hello everyone! Back from a swim, the first one since I twisted my ankle on Saturday. All good. Resting, icing, etc. for two days did the trick. I feel very lucky it wasn't more severe!

Hope you feel better soon CalGal!

Carol, sometimes that's the right trade off!!

I hope the rain is good and doesn't cause mud slides, etc., as I've been hearing about on the news.

We have rain and my bad ankle is really fiercely complaining. I was hoping to get on the new bike trainer, but it looks like it will have to wait. Instead, I'm having a glass of very good wine...that's probably not the best trade off - lol.

I came home from work and was having trouble wanting to go up to the attic to the treadmill since my dogs aren't allowed up there and no one else is home. I wanted to be near them! So, I found a workout video I used to love to do, and I popped it in the dvd player. It was great!!

Now, a little quiet time, then a shower, then off to pick up kid from dance at 9:30 tonight.

Life is good. One healthy step at a time!!

And Jen, we had a little of that icy stuff too, but thankfully not very much!! Hope you are safe and warm!

Hi folks!

It was so very cold over the weekend, but I got to the store for my produce and spent a few hours at the Longwood gardens conservatory soaking in the sunlight and warmth. I will postpone my Monday swim to tomorrow on account of the ice in the forecast tonight.

Good Morning all!! Welcome to all of the new folks posting. It's fun to see some new people joining us in our pool party!!!

Brownme I'm so sorry about your ankle! I hope you heal very quickly.

I had a very busy weekend with kid activities, cleaning the house, and basically trying to stay warm!! It was nice. I didn't do any work, and that gives me some energy to face the work week! It should be a good one. The job I have now is a very nice one.

I also had two great workouts this weekend. Yay me!!!

I'm feeling energized about the week so I'm going to dive right into the work!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!!
