Merry Christmas Eve!

Slow quiet morning before we head off to my brother's for today and hosting Christmas dinner here at our home tomorrow. Mom came over to bake cookies yesterday and I successfully made my grandmother's stollen recipe. 15 minutes of kneading bread counts as exercise right? Haha the difficulty of that 15 minutes tells me I have more work to do :)

But for today and tomorrow, I'm off the clock. Looking forward to seeing my nieces!

Carol, I imagine it's going to take me about a year to replace the income I get from the current job. I'm not quite as financially independent as I could be, so I depend on that source of income. It's not the dream job, but it's not actually bad either. I'm having a lovely weekend with absolutely no work stress and I can't remember the last time I could say that, so that's quite a positive thing!! Maybe I'm just always looking for the perfect thing, and that just doesn't exist! I'm going to set good goals for my folks at work as well and show them what they are capable of if they plan and are accountable.

I'm off for a fun day with the family. A little food shopping, a little cookie baking party for the kid at a friend's house, some decorating and cooking and movie watching here. Nice!!!

Oh, and a workout!!!

Have a great day!!!

Haha Jen, I've been saying that for a week...the solstice is coming, the solstice is coming!!! People here are asking...what? I get so excited because I know my days will lengthen and I can play more in the evenings outside!

Heather, why do you have to stay there a whole year? My group at this new place was certainly freaked out when I came along and then hired someone who used to work for me. I've slowly (wait, I've only been here two months) "collected" everyone. Well, all but two really...but those two have to go, so no real sorrow there. I'm also picking up mentoring a very young, new sales gal. I LOVE this new job...I wish you had finally found your great job, but it sounds like it's not meant to be.

My family will start coming tomorrow! I can't wait! It's going to be so fun. I bought way too much stuff hehe. I remembered yesterday that I was going to ask for a CycleOps, so I threw it in the cart on Amazon and my husband went in and clicked "buy now"!!! I can't wait for Christmas. I got my son one of those very large fully enclosed ecospheres with about 15 shrimp and I think I'm going to miss them! It's like having an aquarium that you never have to feed or clean and they are so fun to watch.

Heather, that sounds like a good plan and some crazy favoritism! I bet there's a good few odd ball businesses that would react kindly to a "muggle" who understands them. I still kind of feel like my CPA doesn't 'get' it even though he's worked with my Dad the musician for years.

I agree, it's nice to have a little connection with you all. It's a friendly group and I enjoy having space to tell what I'm up to and hear what you guys are up to. A nice reality check in a way :)

Carol, I saw my cousin cheering rain today from San Diego. I hope you get some rainy weather out there soon, those fires are fierce.

I've been steady with my y membership, just gotta get there! Spark just isn't very functional for tracking, but I like coming here to report and chat.

Today is the solstice! And we begin the climb back into daylight *yay* I took a walk in my lunch break and contemplated, I have a hard time with the less enjoyable chores (who doesn't) but I'm going to really try this year and do what I know I need to. Build my business, do the paperwork, balance my schedule... In hopes that I can get closer to where I want to be.

I often have trouble getting all of the packages in the mail on time, but this year with the help of hubby, all is done on time! Now, of course, I'm not done with shopping for my hubby and kid. In fact, I have no idea what I have for both of them, but I'm sure I need more for hubby. Oh, and a Christmas tree. And some decorations......we are really late this year. But we are going to have fun together doing it this weekend!!

I figured out yesterday some of the funk that I'm feeling around this job. My credit and collections manager let me know that people around here are not used to being held accountable and that my predecessor really played favorites and since I don't, I'm having a little attitude issues. It makes sense, since the owner is like that as well. Sigh......I need to keep myself employed at least another year here.........new goals are in sight!!

Have a great day!!!

Hi Jen! That's awesome that you are still swimming through the winter. I can't wait to get my pool fixed up so that I can swim in my backyard! It's super wise to not take on too much stuff during these crazy Christmas weeks!

Hey there Kourtney! We know you're a badass! You might consider looking at what jobs are out there, maybe even have some conversations with a headhunter. Then when you feel confident you could make a switch, go talk to this new (dumb) boss. If I were interviewing you I know you'd be in my top choices. Your smart, you're quick on at understanding, you have more common sense than most and you're passionate about your work...that alone should put you on the top of the list. Does he have issues with women?

See Heather, you keep going and you can quit your day job! ...and ooooh I never had a client like that, it sounds like fun!

I can't seem to get my act together enough to send my best friend's Christmas package...I'm going to the post office after I type this! She can a hard time at this time of year so I must make sure something shows up by Christmas! I got on Amazon and sent her some gifts as a penance this morning hehe. Now she'll get a ton of stuff...even if some is late!

Okay, going to mail package!

Hi all!! It looks like it's going to be a nice day here in NJ. Not too cold, which is so nice!!

I appear to have obtained another client. This one is a shop in a little town near me. It's a shop that sells pagan and magical items. They said they called a few local accountants/bookkeepers and I'm the only one who responded. :) Guess I'm the only one not afraid of pagan worship items. Perhaps I can develop a little niche market there......lol.

This new work place is quirky......the SVP of HR (my counterpart of that department) is off from today through Jan 3, but never even mentioned it to me. Nothing. Not even "have a nice holiday, I'll see you after the New Year". And today is the Board Meeting. Usually I am called in for like a half hour while financial items are discussed. Once I wasn't, so there's no set in stone pattern for this. So, I'm sitting here waiting to be called in. I have lunch plans, but no idea if I can keep those plans now because who knows if I'll be called in......

And there is no bonus plan here. The CEO/owner gives what he calls "gifts" each year. It's literally called that on the pay type on the pay stub. He decides who gets what based on who he likes. Some years lower level people like middle managers and staff get something, sometimes not. Some people always get something because he likes them personally better. My predecessor got a nice bit of money, not enormous, but something nice. I thought I would surely get something since every other exec gets something and I've been here 6 months and am doing well. I got nothing. Neither did the other new Director, who has been here 9 months.

Did I also ever mention that there are a number of things you aren't allowed to bring up with the CEO? Like the fact that our 401k has no matching contributions or discretionary contributions? Or that our parking lot is down the road and across a busy street and we all have to walk to it and it's a bit of a pain, but certain people get to park in the few spaces close to the building? Or that you aren't allowed to ask if the office is going to close early on the day before a holiday? That if you ask, he will get angry and then not close the office? I know there are a few more things, but I can't recall them right now!!

I'm really getting tired of being at the whim of these crazy owners of these businesses I've worked for the last few years. I figured out yesterday exactly how many clients at a certain billing amount a month I need to obtain in order to replace this income. It's a rough calculation, but now it's my goal. By this time next year my goal is to resign and work full time on my clients. It's going to be a hard year of transition because I'll have to figure out how to do the new client work while still doing this job, but I'm determined and I have a goal. And I know when I'm determined and have a goal, I will reach it. I'm also not fooling myself that dealing with clients is all perfect and I'll never have quirky ones, but I also will be able to cut them loose if they are too weird.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend!!! emoticon

Jen, you hit the nail on the head as to why I try to just check in here more than fb. Or at least as much. FB can be treacherous and I work hard to make my experience here supportive and positive.

It's so nice to hear from Jen and Kourtney!! For me, keeping connections we've developed over years keeps me focused on the fact that there are people who care and are actually interested in me and in sharing their lives with me. I like the connections!! Even if it's not every day, it's good.

Carol I've been watching those fires and am just heartbroken for those people affected. What an enormous impact on lives and the environment too. I'm glad you are safe.

Jen I'm glad you are still swimming! This time of year is difficult for many of us with the short days. But take heart! The winter solstice is two days away, and then we start adding back daylight every day. We start that slow inexorable climb back to the long days!!

Kourtney, I know how hard you work and how passionate you are. Sometimes changes out of your control force us to move on. I can relate to that. Hold on, do your very best, and then make the change when it's right for you. Your integrity is high and in the long run you'll end up at the right place!!

Tonight I meet with another potential new client. I'm learning quickly how to price my services and get payments from them faster. :)

Have a great day everyone!!

Hi folks!

I haven't checked in on spark in a while, but I'm still swimming :) I've been focused on maintaining a Monday/Friday post work routine and at least doing better than I had over the summer. My cubicle job has had the lbs creeping back on, so does my tasty kake habit...

We celebrated my hubby's birthday this past weekend and I'm almost all set for Christmas. Trying to figure out when I can do the most important things and letting go of the less important things. Prioritizing and not over-committing has been a major focus so I don't get all overwhelmed and emotional in the winter darkness. I even got an hour long wander in the woods Sunday afternoon.

However I've been spending a lot of time on Facebook, but checking in here is much less treacherous than fb... so I'll try to catch back up a little bit here.

Hi all,

I'm in IL hanging out with family :D. Well, today I am working from a cafe b/c I'm behind on things... or at least my boss thinks I am. _sigh_

Saturday was my nephew's 1st birthday. So big! And then Sunday was my little brother's college graduation. :D Very proud of him! College has been a struggle right up til the end and I'm so thrilled he is DONE.

I'm meeting up with my best friend in just a couple of hours, so I'm trying to finish a few final tasks before she picks me up. I'm just a 10 min walk from her, but I don't know this area so I'm hesitant to walk to her school.

I'm feeling... disheartened at work. tl;dr I've been trying to get approval to be officially assigned to an area of work I'm extremely passionate about and have been owning at this company for several years. But it's not going to happen because my new boss thinks I can't handle it and doesn't want to put me on it... Of all the things I worried about with my new boss, him recognizing me as a badass at my job wasn't on the list.

So I may be looking for work soon. I guess i want him to actually take me off the project I love before I pull the trigger. But I love this company and the people I work with so it's not a decision I'm making lightly. We shall see.

Well now that I'm feeling all sorry for myself, guess i better get back to work. xoxo

That's great that it's getting easier to recognise you need to go back to it!

I have to send a box to my best friend and take gifts to my sister and husband, but other than that, I have all of my gifts...some still need wrapping. I got my son a fully enclosed globe that is its own ecosystem, with about 12 live shrimp swimming around. It is sooo cool! I got him the big one and it's like a small aquarium without the hassle of feeding or cleaning!

I have a busy workweek, so I need to get to it. No exercise since I can't breath with the fires down south sending smoke and particulates this way. It's a crazy fire! This past weekend it burned down the park where we got married! It's heading towards a bunch of my friends' houses! One of them lived through another fire there where it burned down everyone elses house around hers but left hers completely untouched. Fire here is amazing and scary with the way the winds blow, I can't imagine the rough time the firefighters are having. You just can't guess which way it will go next.

Good Morning!!! It's a week before Christmas Day, and as usual, I am no where near ready for it!! Aaaahhhhh!!! Well, I'm partly ready, so that's good. If I really stay focused everyone should get gifts on time!

It's a short but busy week here at work. I'm looking forward to a few long weekends back to back!!

I'm back to my regular workouts, and I'm feeling good. I've noticed that since I started my serious commitment two years ago that when I do have a break in workouts because I'm overly busy or having a hard time focusing on workouts, it takes a lot less time for me to notice and get back on the wagon with the workouts. That's a win for me!! Yay!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day!!!
