I love that phrase "it's all about the look back". What a great thing to keep in mind when you are looking for daily motivation!

Lapper - I would try to take time outside the class and just be on your own, practicing one stroke at a time. If you are going to work on the breaststroke I would suggest a board and a buoy so that you can do only arms, then only legs.

Oh, one of the things I found very helpful is counting my strokes across the pool and then trying to decrease by one on each length by gliding more. It slowed me down and gave me more time to think about the accuracy of my stroke. AND just remember it's the look back - Goriana is a PERFECT example of that!

Gor - I think about how far you've come and I'm so proud of you! To think when you started you used to say that you could only imagine open water swimming but didn't really think it would ever be in your cards...and now look at you! It's all about look back and patience!

When I get my pool I know I'm going to be complaining ALL KINDS! Sigh, but it's all about the look back, right?!

It's been a long time since I've gone swimming and when I think of it now, I much prefer the cold, murky, saltiness of the open water...but I have no wet suit, so that's not happening. Thank goodness for day off to catchup and...I don't like hectic...but I'm doing that fora year...light at the end of the tunnel: 6/7/2018...I hope I make it.

I hope you are well....I am glad for the consistency of this team....I still trip out that when I first joined this group I couldn't even swim one length of a pool w/o freaking out...and now I like the open water...though it is still not 'open' open water...I swim at the bay...I still have trouble with flip turns and diving from the blocks.....

Wow, it sounds like you are doing great! It makes sense to me that the coach wants you to slow down, and I also can totally relate to trying to go faster! I'm impressed with how you are doing and that you have chosen to learn to swim!

I love swimming, and I used to swim a lot, but my life isn't really giving me the time for it now. So, I try to just enjoy the workouts I do, and I dream about the day I can get back in the pool!!

Have a great weekend!!

Hi Folks,
I missed your post and thankfully one of you mentioned it in this week's thread. I'll post this under both weeks.

Thank you for your responses. I
Calgalfox: I'll give your practice suggestions a try. My stroke of the day clinic coach is seeing improvements in my technique on freestyle so she started me on breaststroke and do I ever need help on that one! I can't seem to get the arms and legs together in the glide portion of the stroke. She broke the stroke down and we worked on the arms and think I understand that part but the legs are a whole other problem. She said this is a hard stroke to learn so to be patient. I think I need to see it in a video that I can stop to get the idea of when/where the hands are in relation to the kick/legs.

I also learned I am supposed to be blowing out bubbles while I have my face in the water. I was holding my breath. After several days of working on this it seems I'm getting the hang of it but I still want to hold the breath so have to keep telling myself to blow bubbles.

I need to build up endurance to swim 200 meters. I can do 50 but start fatiguing on the 75 to 100. Coach says I'm swimming too fast but I only know one speed. She said I had to work on swimming slowly so I can get the rhythms smooth and correct some techniques and then we'll work on speed. I haven't ever thought about speed, I just swim, so this is also new for me.

Heathhill: I began taking swim classes in late January and know I've made some progress but having the stroke clinic is really making a difference for me. I could barely make 50 meters back in April but I'm able to do that fairly easily and am working on building to 100.

I'm really enjoying learning all this. Any websites or specific YouTube places I should look at?

Thanks, again, everyone.

Woo hoo, it's Thursday!! I'm happy the week is moving along nicely! I am still adjusting to the darkness, but I'm keeping busy by working out, dancing, riding, etc., and I know that helps with my energy level.

I hope your house closes and you get the pool very soon Carol! That sounds so awesome!!

Tonight I have dance class and I'm really looking forward to it I love the way dancing makes me feel strong and flexible!

Have a great day everyone!!

Lapperoo - I posted a response on last weeks' thread. I guess I could copy it here too...I will when I'm done.

Yeah Heather, I like talking to headhunters even when I'm not planning on making a change. I'm loving my new job and it's awesome having an owner with so much clout having my back!

I'm going to Arizona to visit my best friend at the end of the week and I'm super excited to see her! Our new house is supposed close at the end of the week...but we'll see. I can't wait to have a pool!

Sounds like you've started the week off in an awesome way! It is so flattering when people think of you for a specific job. Like you said--who knows, but worth checking out so you do know if you want it or not. Hope you find out if it is a good fit or not.

Walking is great! I love walking this time of year!

Hope you have fun too!

Good Morning all! I hope you had a nice weekend. I had a really nice and somewhat relaxing weekend, and that's something I haven't been able to say for about two months now. My life has been very hectic. I like hectic, but it sure was nice to have a slower weekend for a change.

Carol, I had a headhunter reach out to me about a Controller job. I have no idea if it's really interesting to me, but it was kinda fun to have him reach out. I really don't know where he got my info, but I'm guessing from a LinkedIn search. I'm gonna check it out because I think it's always a good idea to check things out. I'm pretty happy here, and I've only been here 5 months, but you never know.......if the other position is really good and pays a lot better.....well.....I'll never know if I don't look into it.

This week I'm walking a lot! I've started walking as many days as I can at lunch since evenings are hard, and mornings are impossible now. I feel good!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE day and week!!
