Well, Laurie, I can relate as I'm just about to dig into some work here at home! I've had a good weekend of shopping, cooking, a bit of driving around for the kid, and working out.

Hope you're having a great day!!

A quiet weekend. I'm not sure I know what that is anymore! I work seven days a week. Not all day for all those days, but there's always something to do for at least a couple of hours. I am still struggling to adjust to moving my office to my house and being without an assistant. Boy, was I spoiled!

And now I'm going to eat pizza. Which I hardly need, but I'm going to eat it anyway. emoticon Maybe I'll get salad with my pizza. emoticon

Jen, I'm with Carol, don't get down. Every single interaction is an opportunity to gather information and learn from it and then take that learning and move forward.

Job hunting is hard because you have to keep putting yourself out there and selling yourself and you can start to feel like you are being personally judged. I found that if I focused on the fact that I was looking for the right place and not every place was going to be right, that I didn't take it personally when I wasn't the right fit. It means they aren't the right fit for you either. Plus, people can just plain be weird while conducting interviews.

I also think Carol's advice is dead on right. You have to know the organization and the job they are looking to fill. Having the exact job description before an interview is helpful, but often impossible. So take what you can from the job posting and follow Carol's advice. You have to take your similar experience and convince the interviewer that you can definitely take that experience and apply it to their situation. You need to show them how you are the right person to solve their problems. Don't be afraid to ask them questions as well. It's not a one way interview.

My old boss kept telling me that you need as many at-bats as you can get, but you only need one home run to get a new job. You increase your odds of that home run by getting as many interviews and interactions as you can. You'll get there, but it takes work!!

Added thought: try researching the STAR method of answering interview questions. Just writing a few of these for yourself helps you to see how your experience can translate. If you need more info on that, spark mail me.

Jen - Try not to be too down. My pointers on job interviews is to do your research on the company, if you aren't sure by the job description what it entails exactly, go to Google and search ...whatever the job title is - job description. Up will pop a bunch of different description and then if you don't know what something is - like they would prefer a "PMP certification", search on that, then see if there's anything in your background that you could bring in to the discussion..."I've looked at getting the PMP certification, however, I've managed several projects ...

That's exactly how I moved up. I just kept reaching and saying, "Yes, I've done something much like that"... Just never say no!

If you need help, you know where to find me.

Hi folks :)

Laurie, your website looks great!

I had my phone interview last night and it was an experience to say the least. I feel like I score high on personality points for them but low on resume points. And I probably could have sold my experiences and explained myself better. I think I'm coming to terms with needing to study a little more on how to interview. The position sounded a bit out of my league on the posting, but I went for it anyway.

Wishing I had gotten some exercise to ease the rejection, but today is another day.

Laurie - Yeah the web page looks great! Are you doing much on the wills and estate planning? If you were here in California I'd have you set up our trust, it's on my list to get done this year! I loved your Izzy vid on fb!

Hi all, everyone sounds like they have exciting things going on.

I have so many things floating around my head, I don't really even know where to start. So I'll just leave this here so that I'm at least subscribed to the thread.

Did I pass on my new web address to you? If not, here it is... check it out and let me know what you think

Jen - My fingers are crossed for your new job opportunity! I applied for my first possibility on Friday! The owner emailed me asking me some pretty detailed questions...I've never had that happen before.

Heather - Oh, that sounds nice to be able to throw in a visit while doing work travel. That's a shame that you don't align on politics. I guess I was lucky that my whole family aligned. The current politics are certainly a very hot topic if you disagree.

Ooh, I almost wrote something political!

I worked on the new house this weekend and it was really fun. My daughter is staying with us (sort of) for the month. She is doing Wanderlust event planning and so she will be gone and needed somewhere to store her stuff. We had fun trying to get that room finished before she got home on Saturday. We put down the new fossilized bamboo, baseboards and painted - whew! That's a good work out. It looks beautiful! Now we're trying to plan the kitchen - lol...that will be three kitchen remodels in less than two years!

Hello!! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Mine was busy traveling to the charity fundraising bike ride my hubby does each year. It was a lot of fun to cheer him over the line!

This week I travel a bit for work, so I made sure I brought my walking shoes so I can get some exercise in. I get to stay with my parents since the office I'm visiting is very close to their house. I'm very excited to visit! As long as we stay away from talking politics, I can have a nice visit with my parents. If we veer off that path, it can become contentious. So, I'll do my best to stay away from it because I really do love them even if we disagree on some pretty important things!

Gotta go fill up that water bottle!!! The water consumption makes all the difference!!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE week!!
