Carol, that post was perfect! I am the primary, by far, earner in our family and jumping out on my own has been a bit scary as I've always counted on the steady income of a job. But today I finally figured out if I could just get 10 clients to pay me $1,000 a month for bookkeeping, accounting and tax work, I could indeed walk away from other employment.

I'm starting on it in earnest today. I may need a little while to build up those clients, but I think if I hustle there's a good chance I could get those clients within the next few months!!

I'm going to use a model business plan I have, and make it my own. Perhaps you'll review it when I'm done?

Your point on just jumping is spot on!!

Fear of failure... Not just my fear but Randy's too. We can't pay our household bills if I walk away from my day job, if I fail to bring in the income, my day job has a long history of not taking people back. If I'm going to jump I have to be damn sure. And I'm not.

So the plan is to become more proficient at pinstriping, getting to where I can accept a job and be good enough to put paint on a car. Skill is a slow road, and I've dragged my feet in fear.

Be fearless... Sounds easier than it is :)

Aponi - It looks awesome! tell us more!

Jen - You know I'm here...is it time to jump for you?

Heather - You also know I'm here.

So...why wouldn't you jump? Self-doubt, or fear? If you aren't happy, why won't you jump? Fear of failure is the biggest obstacle, so the question is ... what would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? You both aren't capable of failure.

Would you fail? Or, would you do the things that it takes to not fail? Ummm...you would fight tooth and nail not to fail. So, what is holding you back? Fear?

Be fearless.

Jump, or don't jump? I can tell you the strength in jumping, the exhilaration, the empowerment... the path changing. Is it for you? IDK...is it?

I love you guys and I'm always here for you!

We're redoing the study and I got a new desk there. I imagine we'll be back once we get everything done. There is always the need for some small shelf or something.

I have a lot of self doubt floating around that creating a business of my own. I'm working to get through that though. My job does suit my personality fairly well to hang out here while I build my own business. Sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees :)

Carol, you are truly a fantastic coach and mentor. Your advice is always spot on, straight forward and frankly the way to success. It takes organization, motivation and sheer hard work, but if we are excited, building our own businesses can lead to great satisfaction.

I'm back from France!! It was amazing!! But, I have a job interview in the city this afternoon so I have to start making my way there! It's a long bus ride when it's not an express commuter bus. I'll come back tomorrow morning when I'm more relaxed and share a little more about the experience. I will tell you this now though. We logged about 20,000 steps every day we were there. My legs are tired, but stronger than when I left!!

Glad I went, and glad to be home!!

The career advice that I always give to people that need a job, but don't have a "calling" is to look at your state employment department and find the pay data for all the jobs. Sort the jobs from highest pay to lowest, then look at the higher ones to see what fits your personality, education (or that would be easier to get the education needed) and move towards that. Then build your own business in your leisure time.

When you go to build your business, no matter how artsy, create a business plan and write it all out as if you're going to give it to a bank. Then write down time goals and make yourself stick to them. There are business plan samples online.

If you go that route and you need help...you know where to find me.

I'm starting to do the research for my new business plan. I plan to come up with four business lines or separate businesses and I'll create four full business plans. I'm excited about this new path!

Pay bills for another year and then something artsy... I'm jealous Carol! Lol

In all seriousness, I'm sure I don't do myself favors with my negative framing of my day jobs, but those negative feelings are at the root of it too... Oh the struggles of being a free wheeling spirit kinda person in a cubicle! I'll find a better solution some day

We did an Ikea trip yesterday...I sure love that store! We're getting ready to do our current kitchen so we went to plan it out. It was so fun and we agreed down the line on what we're doing!

I've got another year of paying the bills with a job, then I'm switching to an artsy business...I can't wait!

Three day weekend is great! Until it's over, it's like just enough time off work that I realize how much I like not having to go there. Ah well... Gotta pay the bills till I figure out another way...

We did a lot of house clearing over the weekend - emptying the attic and sorting through things in the spare room. Also worked on the car (progress, my turbo works again but now there's a vacuum leak) and went kayaking. Cleaning the studio and some cardio are next up on the list...

I love three day weekends! It seems the difference between agriculture and horticulture is that horticulture believes in taking all of the holidays! Yay for horticulture!

We've been moving into our new house this weekend and it's been an interesting project. We are going from a very large four bedroom house to a tiny two bedroom house. We have an acre of land that is semi-terraced and that is going to be fun. We have done lots of physical work and gotten a great full body workout!

I hope everyone has a GREAT week ahead!
