I hope you find the right job for you, Heather. The first offer isn't necessarily the best one, right?

I really wanted to get my little guy in swim lessons last year when he was 2, but my husband was not too happy about that. I don't remember a time in my life when I didn't know how to swim; I grew up in FL and my mom & grandmother taught me to swim EARLY. My husband, on the other hand, was in western NY most of his childhood, and when his parents retired to FL, he "learned to swim" but still is not completely comfortable in the water. For example, he CANNOT lay on his back and float. I don't understand it.

Anyway, I insisted that it would be safer for Liam if he knows how to swim - for-real swimming without the aid of floaties or a special vest. He likes to jump in the pool and have us catch him; I'm glad he's not afraid, but it's going to be dangerous for him to jump in if he can't actually swim, so I'm relieved that we're actually doing the lessons this year. I've already started talking about them, and I will probably make a big deal about getting his swim fins and goggles together.

I usually swim at the college where my husband teaches. The semester just finished, and graduation was today; I'm not sure of what their summer hours are. I really hope I can get over there and do some swim workouts before the end of May. In the meantime, I'm trying to find some kind of lap counter; the method I'm using is OK, but I would rather not stop and stand up to move my marker on the pool deck after every lap.

Happy Friday everyone!!! I'm so excited for the weekend. I am going to a vendor fair tomorrow at my daughter's school. I'm selling the scented candles. I really hope I sell a bunch!! Send good vibes my way!

Well, I got an offer for a job. The problem is I don't really want to work for this employer, and they totally low-balled me on the money. So, as hard as it is to turn down work, I'm going to decline the job. I have a final interview next week with the carpenter's union, and I'm a lot more excited about that job. Plus, I'm getting traction on other applications I've made, and I just don't want to settle for the wrong thing like I did last time. I'm not wealthy and I don't have a year of living expenses saved, but I do have some ability to wait for a better job, so I'm going to be brave this time and do that.

It's gonna rain so much this weekend! But hopefully by Sunday it's nice out and maybe hubby and I can get out on that tandem bike of ours! And soon we can get back into the tandem kayak. Yay!!! In the meantime, I danced last night for exercise and today I'll do the treadmill. I'm also eating a lot better since I'm doing all my cooking at home and not eating junk.

Have a great day and weekend everyone!!!

Jen, that's sad that there was a death, but I suppose it's good it sparked safety within the family.

We all learned to swim when I was a kid way back when........one of our neighbors had a pool and we all had to prove we could swim to be able to hang out there. I loved it, and was on a swim team from the age of 7. It's much easier to learn to swim when you are younger, I think.

The interview yesterday went very well. And I got a call back for a third interview for the other place, so I'm going back in today. The jobs are both good, so maybe I'll actually have a choice of jobs. Of course, I'm still applying and you know the minute I accept an offer, an amazing opportunity will arise. That's just how it goes........but you know darn well I'll be ecstatic to have a good job again. I'm sure it will all work out great.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi folks :)

First week of May! I have a lot of stuff coming up it seems, time to flex my time management skills lol. It looks like I might lose my workout time tonight on account of some re-work that needs to be done in a guitar project I had a hand in. We'll see how that all goes.

I'm liking my little tracker thingy as it helps me keep a record of my workouts including swimming.

I guess I'm of the generation where swim lessons became maybe more common? I took several summers of lessons at the YMCA and ywca growing up. We had a pool in the backyard and it was a safety point that we know how to swim even though it was a shallow pool. There was a death of a teenage son a few generations back in my family and so swimming as a safety precaution was pretty heavy in the family psyche.

I have always believed that swimming is a life skill and everyone should have basic ability to stay above water in a pool. My daughter never really took to swimming very much, but she can swim enough to stay afloat, so I'll have to be happy with that now.

Carol, it sounds like it'll be a bit of a challenge where you are, but you are up for it, no doubt! Being new and laying down the law is no way to build team buy-in to what you need to get done. That's one of the things that happened at the last job. Man, a bad job just sucks.

I'm going in today for a second interview with the carpenter's union. I really liked them a lot. The job is one that I know I could do without killing myself. It's called Assistant Controller, but the person I would report to is the Chief Accountant, and seems a bit more like a CFO. She is the person I'm meeting today. I'm very hopeful as it seems like a great fit for me.

Amanda, take the guidance from the therapist on how much swimming you should do and I would bet you'll be fine. A good physical therapist is worth their weight in gold!!

Have a great day everyone! Wish me luck!!

Getting swim lessons for your three-year-old is really important. I "made" my kids take swim lessons every year until they were 13 and then it was their choice. Both kids told me they were glad I made them take lessons all those years because it paid off for surfing, water polo and competitive swimming. ...I just wanted them safe in the water!

Hi there, swimmers. I hope to get in the pool this week or next week. I have been having awful pain behind my shoulders (at the base of my neck and across my upper back), and I have PT on Wednesday morning, so swimming may or may not be a good idea after my appointment. This past Friday I had a swim bag with me in the car, but I decided that it would be better to just go to the gym and work my legs rather than risk further strain to my shoulder muscles.

I signed my 3-year-old up for swimming lessons! I like the idea of him being able to swim HIMSELF instead of someone always having to hold him while he's in the pool. We haven't done floaties or vests that make kids float when they can't swim. I want the boy to be able to actually swim, not THINK he can when he really can't. Swim lessons are May 29-June 2, then we leave on a road trip on June 2!!

Thanks for your condolences on Mom's passing. I really let my health go these last 6 months... I decided to get serious about my diet & water and logged in to SP. I have been tracking food & drinking water for 16 days, and I am down 10 pounds. This is with 1 single day of exercise. Ha! I am trying to make really good progress during the next month.

Sounds like you are finding good leads for jobs! Assistant controller's get to do a lot of the fun work and with great benefits, it might outweigh better pay! I was looking at a county job because of that.

My company hired a new CFO at the corporate headquarters and on Friday he "laid down the law" for us controllers, that we had to have financials done within ten days. With new software and no management? Really? So on Saturday I lobbed the mess back over the fence I gave him a list of things he needs to come fix so that our accounting team can make his new deadline. Today I'm planning on crafting two more emails and asking him what his schedule here is going to be. ...I could be putting my job at risk, but it's going to be fun doing it!

Hi all!! It seems the weekly chat is working for us, so here's another week of it!!

The interview Thursday went well. I'm going back for a second interview today. They are really trying to figure out what they want in the position, so maybe I can convince them how great I am and how much I can do for them, and they'll be willing to pay me a decent salary!! I also got a call on a resume I submitted last week. It's an Assistant Controller position with the NYC Carpenter's Union. The pay is a little low, but the benefits are astounding. Fully paid family medical benefits. I didn't know anything like that even existed anymore. So, I'm going in for the interview tomorrow.

I'm reaching out to some business support groups in my local area to help me figure out how I can do the bookkeeping business. I really wish I could just not work for a while and build that business, but that model will not work for the reality of my life.

On another note, I have a nice outline planned for our little trip to Paris at the end of May. We are only there 4 full days, so we have to be somewhat planned out, or we will just end up seeing whatever we stumble upon!

Gotta work out this morning to prepare for the interview. I want to feel up and energized!

Have a FUN and ACTIVE week!!!
