I've run into not being able to do laps on cruises. I hadn't thought of bringing something like what you are doing.

Jon is probably the best person to speak to you since when he can't open water he uses a simulation. I'll pop him on the daily thread and ask him to come talk.

“Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!”

Do any of you have experience swimming with a stationary harness? Can you offer any advice on their use? I'm going on a cruise in May, and while the ship has three pools, none are outfitted for lap swimming. I bought a harness and tried it out yesterday. It's fine, if not a super weird sensation. Just trying to find out if there are shortcuts to getting used to the feeling of not actually going anywhere. And the fact that my shoulders are so strong that it constantly feels like the cord is going to yank me back to the wall -- I was swimming about under the flags with the harness I have, which attaches to the ankles rather than to the waist.
