Well, here's the total weirdness of this closely held business. The person that got the raise is our "Executive Assistant, Payroll & Benefits", which means she started here when they started the business 3 years ago doing a lot of things. She had worked for these two guys before, and before that, for the one owner's father. They kind of collect people here that are loyal, regardless of if they are actually qualified to do the work.

So, in November I loudly said, along with the HR consultant (also a previous employee of their old company who is on disability with the prior company, so who is not on our payroll but whom we pay her bills in exchange for doing work for us, which is a totally different issue I have here) that the payroll person is wholly unqualified to be doing what she is doing now and we need a payroll person who is much more highly qualified. The CEO agreed and said we should start recruiting. The HR person was going to do that. She never did. I didn't have time with all the other things I'm doing, and then we got caught in the payroll conversion to the new system.

Then suddenly the President (the other owner) just told me that there would be raises and bonuses given at year end, and one of them was to this payroll person. I was floored. They run this place like it's some kind of lemonade stand where they give special things to special people. I honestly can't take it much longer. It's so unbelievably unprofessional.

Please pray or think good thoughts or whatever you can to help me land this other job......I honestly can't do this one much longer......

New laptops...so awesome and such a pain in the butt!

On the raise subject, doing it without you Heather? That's just not right, unless it was in the works before you started...even then they should have told you.

I hire a certain number of people that I mentor and train into jobs, so 10-15% raises are not unusual for me. I just argued for a 10% raise for my collections person because she's awesome and she took on more work. It's my favorite part of my job, to give great raises to people who deserve it!

Hi folks :)

Heather, I didn't think raises of that size actually existed o.o curious indeed...

Another week, another crack at routine. I hit the treadmill at the y tonight. 3.8 mph on that self powered tread is always harder than I think it is. Just means I gotta do it more often.

Little bit of studio time and I'll call it a day.

You know how to put a healthy streak together, Heather - go for it. That's a pretty big raise in the recent (and not so recent) past. Were they underpaid for their position? Was this negotiated prior to your arrival?

Welcome to Monday! Let's make it Tuesday asap. Other than that, I have nothing. Usual eating, exercise and work. I am, though, typing this on the new laptop which is why I was thin on the ground last week. Painful weekend with the setup. Dropbox is your friend.

Good Morning!! I'm getting a late start here because we had a new person start today. I am so hopeful this admin assistant will be a great addition to our team here. This organization is growing so quickly yet they are hesitant to add people....and then they arbitrarily give an 11% raise to a person that works for me, without even asking for my input. The strangely emotional and non-rational way decisions are made here is making me insane......

On another note, I've put on a few pounds!!! So, back to basics to drop that and the next 15. Yay for focus on the positive movement of the scale downward again!
